Had dinner at my parents place tonight. Homemade cheeseburgers and fries. Didn't get anything done on the elevator with the exception of some planning. I have some detail parts to go on it. Windows, doors, ladders, etc. Also have some parts for a truck loading building. Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hello all,

A bit down this evening. Uncle passed about 2PM today. He is better off. He has been in the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for several months and probably should have been there sooner. His wife kept him home till she and visiting helpers could no longer manage him. He was unhappy too because he was all ways very active and he had very little control of himself.

Thanks all for your prayers

He was a Marine who served in the Pacific during WWII. Talked very little of it. He did tell me of seeing all the bodies stacked on the beach when he went ashore on Guadalcanal a couple of days after after the invasion. He was a mechanic on the small planes the observers flew.

Dad's family is diminished from 7 to 3.He hasn't said much but his looks and actions tell me he is seriously thinking of his own mortality. This has hit him harder the when another uncle passed Memorial Day weekend.

Best head to bed. I put off having Bloodwork drawn and now I have to do it tomorrow for my appointment Tuesday (I'm sure to catch he**from the doc)

May go to the office for a few hours tomorrow so I can take off for the funeral without getting too far behind.

Prayers for those in need

Good Evening,

Condolences to you and your family Banks.  I'm sure it is a difficult time for all.

Enjoyed the day off, even though I didn't get very much done that I had planned on.  Spent most of the day working on our website.

Was going to do some rewiring, but decided before I start, I need to really check out the existing wiring.  Good thing I did, I would have made a significant mistake.  So making a schematic drawing I what I have.  That will explain a lot.  (Initially done a long time ago, and many changes made since.)

BTW, That K-Line Saw Mill is fantastic!  I like it better than the Lionel one for sure.  Would be hard to justify around here.

All the news about the gas prices are not exaggerated, never have seen prices go up so much and so fast.  If the gas was not the topic of the day, the weather certainly would be the hot one.  It certainly has cooled off! And, more cooling next week and possible rain.

Tomorrow will be working a show, then hopefully spend some time on the layout.  (Bob, still working on the Hemoset, and checking on carpeting prices.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Don

Good morning fellas,

Cold last night, I know because George the cat was waiting for us at the front door when we got home from the Red Lobster thingy. Cat stayed in all night untill after he ate at 4:00AM and is now in his heated igloo on the front porch.

37 degrees and won't make the 60s today in North Central IL.

Dinner last night was good. We got back about 10:00 and the traffic was fair. We had separate checks for a group of 5 couples and the two grandkids and stupid me when I paid the bill I added the tip as I always do and when I got home I saw they added a 18% tip on to the bill. Bang Head Dunce Kinda kicked the snot out of the train budget for this month. Tongue Tied

Banks, so sorry to hear about your uncle, may he RIP condolences to you and your family. I am sure you will be strong for your dad in these next few days. Angel

Good morning. It's 65° with 100% humidity and areas of fog. It's mostly cloudy but should become partly cloudy later. The high should be 78°.

I'm hoping to get in some work on the grain elevator today providing I don't get interrupted by a certain family member. I get some time to do something and he calls and turns my schedule upside down. That gets really annoying after a while. Looks like the motor in the AS16 is going to have to be replaced after all. It's acting like it has a weak or bad field.

Doug glad you got some cats. We too could not replace the dog but George the cat came up the driveway before Lacy died. He has helped fill the loss for us as I am sure your kittens will do the same for you.

George does not have a litter box. He has been fixed and he will go to the door when he want to do his thing or will come and get you. He eats inside and will stay in when he wants to. He also has a Kitty Kat Condo with a heated pad in it on the porch for when he can not come in. This all makes him, very easy to own.  Smile

Highest gas prices here today are: $3.74 Regular, $3.89 Mid-grade, $4.09 Premium. Those are from three different stations. One of the stations I go to has $3.61 Regular, $3.76 Mid-grade, $3.81 Premium. Not the lowest but the closest. If I want to go out farther I could get gas for $3.54 R, $3.69 M, $3.84 P. Who do these nuts think they're trying to fool?

Lunch Time:

Nice quiet morning at work. A couple of the guys are installing a rebuilt transfer case in a tandem axle all wheel drive GMC C8500 Digger/Derick w/a Isuzu Diesel and Allison Automatic. Yes it is a real dog and a pain in the butt, heavy job. Besides that, there is plenty of other activity going on here from welding, body work, and aerial lift repairs.

Banks, Sorry to hear about your Uncle. My Dad was in the Marines also and he did not talk much about the war either. You should have been there when 1 of my brothers bought a Japenese car.

Kev, George the cat sounds like our cat Chester. She (Don't ask how she got the name) loves to tease dogs and is best friends with our dog Mack. She loves rolling around on my neighbor's deck when they are not home and get their Pit Bull, Sonny, all worked up. She also knows how to tease my daughter's 2 dogs. She is at least 12 now. She adopted us one day as I was working under a tractor she climbed up on my chest. The rest is history.

SJ, leave the tomatoes in for a couple more weeks. Nothing to loose.

Gas in NJ this morning ranged from $3.73 to $3.77 on Route 9 in Bayville.

Back to work,

John

My father is retired army, a Vietnam vet with very strong feelings about American made cars. If it's not American made he doesn't buy it! Boy things got real tense when his own mother bought a Toyota Corolla! I bought a Honda Civic once and I nearly never heard the end of THAT!

Off Topic Question for you guys, Huh?

Do any of you drive a 2009 or newer Chevy Silverado? I am considering trading up but would like some feedback from owners. Been looking for an extended cab 4x4 1500.

The only Chevy's I have had were a 78 LUV Tongue Tied and a 86 S-10. Both rust buckets by 10 years old thanks to the road salt. Super Angry

Time to trade off the 2001 Dakota or watch it rust out from under me and then it will be worth nothing. A dealer in town said I can still get 5k for it like it is on trade.

Thanks.

Good morning all,

Enjoying the cool weather we are having lately.  More on the way and possible rain next week but I will believe it when I see it.

Banks, condolences for your Uncle's passing.  Truly one of the greatest generation that we are forever indebted too for our freedom and way of life.  Rest in peace sir and thank you for giving me a secure life  God bless you and your family.

Now is my chance to get out to the garage before dark and run some trains.  Comfortable in there now.

Will try to make the TTOS meet in Arcadia tomorrow.  Last regular meet before Cal Stewart next month.  This is our West Coast York but really no comparison.  You could put the whole thing in one building at York.  However it's a lot closer.

Added another 10 minutes to my walk this morning and it went well.  I seem to be gaining a little more stamina and strength each day.  Also walking the straight and narrow on my diet.  We had dinner out last night.  Had a nice roasted chicken dinner with small portion of mashed potatoes and red cabbage.  No desert but had a small pear when I got home.

Have a good weekend,

Ray.

Spent the morning working on the AS16. I fitted it with new motor mounts and a good Athearn motor and a pair of Proto trucks. I didn't have a pair of hex shafts long enough to reach from the flywheels to the worms so I made a pair of shafts that are a hybrid of the hex and spline shafts and those are working out well. They're easy to make. It just takes time. So that's got the motor and drive set. Next I'll be wiring in a Bachmann decoder.

Mine isn't  2009 or newer but mine is 2003 and the only rust I have seen so far is in the rear bumper which is common seeing it gets a lot of water hitting back there.
