It's 42° here with 82% humidity. It'll be sunny with a high of 65°.Not a good morning for me. My ankle is causing me a lot of pain so I'm trying to stay off it as much as possible. Good thing I didn't have any plans to go anywhere. I may be able to get some cleanup work done on the layout today. It just depends on how I feel later.Looks like nasty Sandy is making her move. Good luck to all in her path.

Aloha. Here's a good app for tracking Sandy-related things: http://google.org/crisismap/sandy-2012 Looking forward to watching the surfers on the 20 ft. waves expected in Lake Michigan tomorrow. My relatives in Connecticut, Brooklyn and NJ have battened down the hatches or headed inland. Passed long lines of ComEd trucks heading east on I-80. Nice photo Charlie! Condolences on those Tigers, SJ. Feel better, Brutus. Prayers for everyone, esp. Tylers situation. Too bad the HMS Bounty replica will be lost.
I'd like to see Hanger 1 someday - the history of Lakehurst and LTA naval aviation is very cool. Had a nice full Sunday with the family walking in a Chicago neighborhood 'Halloween' parade - closed a long street, got a fire truck and marching band and we followed, then visited the local stores for candy.

A windy, cloudy 41 this morning. Our share of the big storm will be mostly high winds. Some rain expected. There was a nice Tardis chat last night and we skipped trying to save the planet. Everyone stay safe..S.J.

Good Morning all from windy and wet Ocean County NJ!
Being seven blocks from the bay I decided to stay home from work. Yes they are open. High tides are 11:31am and 11:52pm. I might make an attempt to check out the bay later as my sisters and I have house right there at the bay with no bulkhead. It's a natural bay and there are about 10 houses in that area, all in the same predicament.
Chief - I agree with you about posting. I like the "Advanced Options" settings but you can't use that with my cell. I wish they could do something about that.
Fife - How's it going? Hope you're out of harms way.
Laz - When are your winds expected to be at their peak?
Spanky - What plans did you finally arrive at?

I am way behind on the POT.
BOC.......I think of you daily and pray your next round of treatments knock the snot out of this thing.
Brutus.....between normal activities, then Chewy, and then with the kids bringing home the crud from school on a regular basis, you and Char have challenges I don't have to worry about, at least not to the extent that you do. I hope this round of the crud passes without too much ado.
Jeff........I hope you are able to lay low for a couple of days and recuperate from the challenges of the past week. WOW!!! You lost your hot water, your electric, and have had the pressures of helping out your Dad and your Mom.
Later, gang! Stay safe. Stay dry. Get or stay healthy!
Jack.

Good Morning Again Ya'll From Stormy Cape Ann Taxachusetts,
Coastal road closures and evacuations have commenced for the entire Massachusetts coastline, Cape Cod, Cape Ann, and the islands (geography lesson for the day). The winds are picking up, a sustained 30MPH right now. Gusts expected 60-70mph.
My local fire department and the electric crews are making their physical presence known out on the roads. I am a mile off the Atlantic so the high tides and expected 6 foot storm surge (starting at noon and continuing for 24 hours) won't affect me. 7,400 customers are already without power......and the brunt of the storm is still a few hours off.
We'll lose some coastal homes to this one.....sad to see those homes swallowed up by Mother Nature's fury. Homeowner folks on the news in tears because I am sure they never expected their "perfect location right on the water" home purchase some time back would become their worst nightmare.
The weekend saw massive boat removal activities and the usual crush of panic at the grovery stores. There were also a whole bunch of bulldozers at several locations on the beaches, mounding the sands in order to try and mitigate the onrushing ocean (can you picture an exercise in futility?).
Reverse 911 calls have commenced telling folks to stay home and announcing available shelters for those who will need them. Schools are all closed. Businesses are urged to "give it up," send employees home. Some road flooding and closures have commenced even though the "real rain" is still 5 hours off.
That's it from reporter RockIsland 52, live from Cape Ann Taxachusetts!
Jack
Stay safe guys!
Spoke to Toni's Uncle yesterday in Madison, NJ. They are ready, making ice and prepared for outages. Store shelves are empty there.

Good morning all,
Again, thoughts and prayers for everyone, especially Tyler. Quiet day at work. I have some items to work on, but nothing major. Keep waiting for case reports to hit big time. TBIL, but we may have to avoid east coast due to turbulence. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good morning. Just spoke to the folks up in the Bronx. The schools are closed and they are really expecting a lot from "Sandy". Seems strange, now that we are living in Florida, that an event such as this is having such an impact on the Northeast. If you are in the 'path of the storm' please BE SAFE.
If the boys points West need a weather update, just read the ones from the boys South of me. I am taking care of last minute items in the (likely) event we lose power.....most of it just laying out what we will need most and don't want to be looking for it in the dark. You know the drill......batteries, candles, water, recharge everything that needs charging. Oh yes, my wife wants me to vacuum. Gotta do that. Lord knows we may get a bunch of visitors in the middle of the storm. Yeah, right.!!!
I've been up for a few hours running the dishwasher, am on load #3 with the laundry, dog's tanks are empty, a quick poo patrol in the yard, unpacked a ton of stuff from the CUV from yesterday's fundraiser up in NH, etc.
BUT.........most important in this morning's post are my prayers for Spanky's dilemma with Tyler's treatment schedule since a trip into Manhattan and Sloan are definitely out.
Later, gang!!!! Time to coffee up (#3).

Good Morning from Trenton!!
Wind and rain right now and yes I am at work...... They won't close this place until the building blows over.....
Sale of my Wagon is complete, took less than I wanted, but its gone. The guy that was buying my BIL's Duster came and went, and didn't take the car so I dunno what happened there.
Prepped for the worst. have my GO bag ready. If we get out early, you can be sure I'll be taking a nap. Looks like a long night at the firehouse. The lake was drained in preparation of this, so we HOPE the flooding is minimal.
As far as the Dash 8, the horn doesn't work so I may take it to the Train Doctor, along with my MTH Wild Wild West engine and get them both repaired.
OK - stay safe everyone!!!!

Good Morning
Well, they have a wind warning out for us'uns here...winds from the north this afternoon 35-45 mph then up to 55-60 mph all night into tomorrow before it all dies down...apparently we are only going to get about 2" of rain here...after all the dang rain we got all last week....
If you all do not hear/read me on this forum it will be because we have lost power as well....so take care, everyone!!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is raining. 40 degrees. Going up to 43 today with rain all day.
This big storm is looking nasty. I hope all folks are safe and dry.
Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of things to do and the wife is running an errand. We are staying home after that.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a safe Monday.
Chuck
Good Morning:
No traffic this morning. Many businesses closed. Mass Transit is shut down. I stayed at Mom's last night and everything is fine there. No heavy rain in Central Jersey yet, just that the wind is really blowing. Back home AF53 texted me that the waves are over the bulkhead and the water is about 100' up the street. That was at 11:00 last night on the Bay side. The end of Main Street is a low area and it floods reguarly. At work we are ready to "attempt" to handle it all but who knows what Mother Nature has up her sleeve.
Brutus: You and Char get well soon. That goes for the rest of the family including Chewey.
Everyone be careful.
John
Good Evening!
After reading the last few days of posts, the only thing I feel light commenting on is the weather and impacts. Especially for Spanky. I hope and pray that all of you guys come through OK, and Tyler gets the appropriate care!
Prayers for ALL !! God Bless !!
Will post more after this passes!!!!
Don
Maybe a little better today - Char is doing well, she caught this first from someone at work (we think) and has been sick for about a week or so. I'm gonna take it easy tomorrow and then see, have to get back to work but also want to not be having temperature changes first... It's just some bug going around. I hope the kids don't catch it. Nice chat tonight with the guys - prayers are out for those in the storm area and for our friends and loved ones. Looking around for something fun to get for my birthday - 49th. I was watching a set on ebay, but it went for like twice what I think it was worth, lol! You guys all take it easy - Mike, you're a life saver, thanks for driving. Don't think it's a good idea for me to be at the switch tonight, lol! Let's go!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Well other than moving my perishable stuff from my parents fridge to mine and going to town to get gas for the van I accomplished an incredible amount of absolutely nothing today. I mostly laid around with my feet up and watched some movies. Once in a while I'd check to see what was going on online. It's been a slow day. It's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

As for me I almost hate to say it but we had a great time with the grand daughter this last day and a half. She is a all out train nut, she kept me in the basement for hours and It was fine with me.
I think George is glad to be King again!

Good Evening
Got the last minute things bought..all stocked up on batteries for the flashlights, candles, and other whatzits...plus other groceries such as needed. Like I said before..generator at the ready and what all else besides....
Around here they are forecasting anything from 2" just west of us to 6" around the Toronto ON region...and winds around 40-55 mph...who knows what merry mayhem might develop....
Here is hoping that everyone makes it through OK....
DJ: Prayers fir Tyler and I hope you schedule some you time for yourself in there..it is looking like things are going to be rough there....
8Ntruck Its been years well a couple of decades since I have been to Barcelona. There use to be along the water way/ main street some replica's of the Nita, pita, and Santa Maria. I also remember sitting in the outside café's at night drinking sangria as they mixed the wines there and put in all kinds of fruit in the pitcher also ( we would buy it buy the pitcher) they mixed like anywhere depending where you went but 3 to 5 different wines to make it. Never had anything like that since. Went to a bull Fight one night well it was a dinner/bull fight they had us at some ranch and fed us and you drank wine out of a ( can't think tired) bag as they came around and poured it in your mouth. then there was a bull fight after-wards. it was more for show than a real one. But it was neat seeing I was in the navy then and it got us off the ship and to a nice place.

DJ: All my best to you, Tyler and the family. I have a rough idea of what you're going through from having to get my mother to her chemo treatments. It was tough at times.
To all those in Sandy's path, you have my best wishes and prayers. Good luck to you all.
Much colder here and very windy today.
My wife and I were invited to have dinner with the parents of one of the people I am working with. Very nice afternoon. Her dad made pyllia - a rice dish with shrimp, bits of pork, onions and other stuff. Very, very good! We did some sightseeing on the way to the house. We could see the Pyrnies mountains off in the distance - they had a snow covering today. Stopped by an old castle keep and a few old churches to take in the view and take pictures. All of those buildings dated back to the 1200's or 1300's..
Yesterday, my wofe and I spent the day touristing in Barcelona, mostly riding the city's tour buses. Barcelona has a lot to do - no way to see everything in one day. We stopped at a tourist trap of a village that featured architecture, food, and hand crafts from the various regions of Spain - interesting enough for one visit, though nor worth another.
Ended up the day by watching a 'magic fountain' that had varying water action and lighting set to music. Kind of neat that they started out the show with a set of music that more or less touched the history of American jazz ranging from the big band era to Louis Armstrong. We've made notes for what we want to see if we ever get back there. Pretty good chance, since I've had to extend my trip for a few days to get the work done that needs to be done. Looking forward to getting home, though. We need to get home in time to vote. If we don't vote, we can't complain for the next four years - we both see that as being unacceptable!
Good luck with the storm, for youse guys who are in the path.
All for now.
Good evening all,
Thoughts and prayers going out to all who need them and sounds like a lot of us need them or will need them in the next few days. Has anyone heard from Dennis W. lately? If he posted, I must have missed it. Went out to mulch leaves today and wound up mowing most of the yard. Weather is cooler than normal here, but nothing like the folks out east have heading for them. I have not talked about breakfast on the dining car lately, but today's was extra special. Started off with my usual cereal and toast and after Mass, the "saucy wench" fixed some waffles and bacon. It was a good day. TBIL and glad I could drive last night. I hope everyone has a good day.
Busy day took wife to the flea market. then went to Lowe's for eight 1" x 4" x 10' ( cheaper almost 1/2 the price of 8' ) bought some stain and brackets. got home stained the boards and put the first one ( the only one that will be 10' ) in the bedroom I'm using for the computer. Put the Santa Fe set by Williams I got from the chief on it ( goto SPF to see) couldn't get it in all one pic.
Now relaxing as work tomorrow.
DJ prayers for you all and Tyler sounds like it could be a rough week.
(I know its early but kinda felt appropriate tonight ) I here 1/2 watching Polar express on the putor while I'm doing other things.
Quick Stopover,
Mass transit is shutting down in NJ and NYC. Evacuations are taking place. So far it is east of me by not much, but I am out of the flood zone. My son is with the Fire Co announcing the evacs. I am about 60 miles North of home and no rain as of yet but it can start at any time.
DJ, Prayers for Tyler and there is no way you can get into NYC tomorrow. Hackensack will probably be flooded also. So you have no other choice. Tomorrow I report to Edison and go from there.
AF53, Ray, if it turns real bad back home call me on my cell phone.
Good Luck to all in harms way.
Back to work. We are really prepared for the worse. This is the most intense preparations that I have ever seen done in my 40 years here.

Windy, cloudy and 45.
I'm still resting, watched the Lions start, had a nap and watched them win. No banilla yet but we have plenty for the thingy crew...S.J.
Cloudy and windy with some rain. Hard to believe it'll be like this for a few days. Only worse. Great day to watch some football and run some trains. Later a nice warm dinner with the kids coming over.
Charlie - Looks like a lot of work, but a great project for the family.
