Still here. Very soaked 45 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Fifedom has weathered Sandy well thus far. Nothing that the business end of a rake and cutters can't fix. Have to fire up the Fifepup 2000. Will check on yatchet before I head into work this afternoon.
Center of storm is somewhere between Brent and Laz right now. My folks are getting a Blizzard on WV mountain top.
Can't watch another minute of the 24/7 media. Do we really need a doodle in rain gear at every block...? Just report the news, and stop trying to be the news...
KRM - HLN actually interviewed one of the Coasties that plucked the crew from the Atlantic...he wondered the same thing on camera.
Good Morning
Welp...here at our manse our anenometer read at 1:35 am a gust from the north of 110 kph...about 75 mph. We lost power for about 2 hours after that...London Hydro took care of that little interruption...there are a number of pockets around here that have yet to see power restored as winds have taken a lot of trees down. The big ol' Maple tree that used to sit in behind our crescent went down taking a number of townhouses with it..neighbourhood is taking care of the victims here....
So, with all that out of the way I'll be having a coffee as I look over the forums......help those in need of help...take care ...

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a cold 35 degrees. Lots of rain and a little snow. Frozen back deck. Little wind, so far. Going up to 46 today with more rain to come.
Today is an easy day. I hope. We are staying indoors and keeping warm. Roads may be bad. I think I will read my new CTT mag that arrived yesterday.
Prayers out for all those folks hit by the storm.
Dining car is parked on a siding serving Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great and safe Tuesday.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Post Sandy Taxachusetts,
There is a large patch of clear sky over my place right now. Breezy, rain forecast throughout the day into tomorrow, temps climbing to the high 60s. Wind gusts to 40mph. But overall I am very lucky compared to others in Taxachusetts. 300,000+ in Taxachusetts are still without power, number was higher overnight. Between 6 and 9pm last night at my place we had gusts a tad short of 70mph and 45+ sustained winds.
The coastal impacts were pretty bad yesterday, the South MA. coast worse than the North coast. We have another high tide to get through with another surge to boot. The moon's position ain't helpin'. Rains here were constant, not overly heavy, total accumulation tolerable.
I just got in from watering the dog and saw I lost a downspout and a trimpiece up by the eaves on the rear of the house, Will have to get a total view later to see if my roof shingles are all still all there. All of my trees are still standing, no fence to worry about. The local school system is open for business. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority is up and running. Most raods are open, Power outages are scattered within a 10 mile radius of my place but nothing considered major. No mention of the airport, but I suspect that is open as well.
This could have been a whole lot worse, like points South of me in MA. down through Rhode Island and Connecticut, and certainly New York (city and LI), and New Jersey. Hope the rest of you impacted by this storm are as lucky as I am.
Prayers for Spanky's family and for Tyler (treatment (interruption). Hope HudsonJohn and Rich with their jobs are still safe and in one piece too.
Jack
PS: HALLOWEEN trick or treating will go on as scheduled.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Watching the news and our thoughts are with all in the path of the storm.
Guess I'll have to get back to work tomorrow, feeling a lot better and Chief needs some more SS funds!
I found this show on HULU - you can watch online for free. It looked really interesting - about a guy who sets up a 10 mile long HO train line in England as part of a tv show. http://www.hulu.com/watch/323939
TARDIS is ready and we have chocolate chip cookies, banilla and assorted nuts - let's go!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.Good luck and all my best to those in Sandy's path.

Good Evnin' From A Blustery Cape Ann Taxachusetts,
Heavy rain and high sustained winds with gusts approaching 70mph.......BUT things seem to be tapering off a tad for now. Flooding, trees down, power out in many places, dogs co-mingling with cats. A disaster!!!!
Hope all youse guyz are hunkered down and surviving Sandy. We are by no means out of the woods up my way. Tried to get my wife to go for a ride down to the beaches but she would have none of it. "What?! Are you nuts?" "What's the worse that can happen? We get hit by a falling tree or electrocuted by a downed power line?"
BUT.........we are still dry, warm, and with power. Wifey and I just vegged out and grazed all night , waiting for something to go South.....but it hasn't. Heavy rain and high winds continue. By 4:30PM there were about 300,000 reported power outages before the worst hit. I got tired of watching the non-stop storm coverage so I have been channel surfing all night. Sean Connery in Goldfinger occupied me up until about an hour ago.
Then the wifey says "Maximus has to go out." Told her she had my permission to take him out. Then I got "the look." Oh joy. So on goes the rain gear and out the dog and I go. I wouldn't bring him back in until he had emptied all the tanks......at battle of wills. I won.
Checked for leaks but have not found any. I think I should expect some lost shingles when daylight comes and I can take a walk for a look see around the exterior of the house.
On the news the local powers that be are clearly aggravated and frustrated because folks have refused to evacuate their homes down by the waterfront and low lying areas despite repeated warnings to get out. Then they get trapped by the rising waters. And, as expected, they call for rescue.
Later, gang.
Evening..
Been raining and getting windier as I type...winds trending north to northeasterly at 40 mph gusts up to 55 mph right now..supposedly getting higher later on.
So far power is still on although I did notice that down the road a ways no lights on....trees looking pretty bare of leaves right now.
Better be getting off the 'puter here...try to have a safe evening here....
Well it's 42 and very windy, no rain has reached here yet. Like everyone else we are hoping the power stay's on. Banilla is ready and the Tardis should be able to lift off for a chat with some of the crew..S.J.
Oh the Tigers, even the team members had very little to say this morning. Very poor performance for the money those guys get paid.

Sunny and colder today. The preson who picked us up this morning was saying how cold it was, and that they had to scrape frost off of their windows. I agreed that it had cooled off some, but it was not cold yet. They were amazed that I was wearing a short sleeve shirt and no jacket! It's the Michigander in me, I guess.
Good luck for all of those in the storm's way.
We kind of lucked out, as our original travel schedule had us flying into JFK tomorrow. Hopefully, something will be left there later this week, for the flight we re-scheduled last Friday.
Looks like things might be getting interesting over Chicago. The radar pictures I'm seeing show the western edge of Sandy moving west, and a line of rain moving in out of the west. Looks like they will run into each other just west of Chicago. I've got to fly through Chicago too..........
RI52 - there is a maritime museum along the waterfront where those replicas may be. We didn't have time to visit it though. If work goes well, we may get some extra time in Barcelona on Thursday or Friday to do some more touristing.
Bummer about the Tigers.
All for now.
Ray great pics thanks for the reminder why I left FL. and VA. Yes I know it can come here too but it seems that VA. and FL. are the popular areas for them.
Brutus I did make a goodwill jester the other day anyway so guess its what is saving me. She wanted some Christmas money to hold and told her she had a choice $XXX or what ever we get from all we took to the auction house which ever is more ( I know the stuff to the auction house should be more if not I'll cash that check and add the difference. We had like 6 tables plus an old TV and DVD play on another and we had a propane fireplace with mantle also ( we paid like $600 about 7 years ago used it one year then moved and never used it since) so it should bring about $100 I hope she should get a fair amount from all we took up just waiting for the check.
Sitting here looking up at the Santa-Fe passenger set with A-B-A heading it really falling in love with it. I'm a passenger train person more than freight but do like both.
Talk to you all later

Amazing winds! Not even at their peaks yet and within 100' of our house no less than 3 trees have fallen. One was 18" and luckily it went away from the house. There are a few that could touch us and we will keep our fingers crossed. So far 2 of my three kids have no power my middle one does. They all live within a mile from us.

The BOUNTY is lost off the Carolina coast. Why was it even out there....?
The ship was on its way from New London, Conn., to St. Petersburg, Fla., said Tracie Simonin, director of the Bounty. She said she was unsure how the captain attempted to navigate the storm. "The last we heard the ship was still upright," Simonin said, providing some hope the vessel could still be saved.
The Bounty was about 90 miles southeast of Hatteras, North Carolina, or roughly 160 miles from the center of Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane bearing down on the U.S. East Coast, the Coast Guard said.
The three-mast, 180-foot vessel was believed to be taking on water and was without propulsion, stuck in 40 mile-per-hour winds and 18-foot (5.5-metre) seas, the Coast Guard said.
What a shame!

No SNOHIZO. Lots of water and wind. I think the Susquehanna River is going to wreak havoc on everthing near its banks. This is the kind of event that kills railroads.
AF53 Laz - When are your winds expected to be at their peak?

Hello all
Been keeping an eye on the storm w/ all the weather info we have here. Looks ugly. Time to put a second reef in the sails boys if you haven't already. Speaking of sails, just heard about the HMS Bounty replica. What the #$%@ were they doing out in a hurricane anyway?
All you folks back east keep your heads down. John will be thinking of you as you work to keep the lights on. In the meantime break out those clockwork Marx trains!
Well the big news here is the landlords found someone to rent out the house. I will be out of there by Nov. 21. The "get the Corvan back on it's wheels" project will definitely be dominating my next week off.
Continuing to tinker w/ the Eico 221 VTVM. I'll see if I can get a pic of it with all the tubes lit up.

Good morning all,
I have been off line for the last couple of days. Just busy. Looks like the storm news is the main topic. Sending prayers for all you guys in harms way for a good outcome.
Spanky, prayers for Tyler to get what he needs in spite of the storm.
Went to a retirement party yesterday for an old neighbor of ours which was held at a beautful venue at a country club. It was overlooking two fairways and a lake approching the club house. The food was outstanding. There was also an artist there doing caricature drawings of people. My wife and I got one with me running a train and her sitting behind me. That was cool.

Wow guys - stay safe! I hope you are all okay and ride out this storm - esp John and all out there trying to help others. Feeling a lot better this afternoon. I cleared all my shows off the DVR, so I'm sure my family will be glad, lol! RT - you are a dead man! Better hit that auction house a few times!
Mornin' All.
Yep, I'm still alive just been burnin' the candle at both ends for a week plus and to tired to read or post. Got lots of catch up reading to do, the better half just looks in my eyes and says "the lights are on but ain't nobody home".
John, Looks like "Mother Nature" is giving you one whale of a retirement party. Stay safe, prayers for you and your crews that will have to deal with this mess. As well as for all the folks facing this storm.
Gotta get back to it, try to catch up some time today. Later !

I am totally bummed. CNN reports that all political campaign events have been cancelled due to the storm. Now whatever am I supposed to do with myself?
Laz, with 32 days to go I am extra careful!
Comcast has been in and out and some, like my daughter a mile away, are out of power. We will probably lose it also. If we do lose it we will be spending the night in our RV.
Here are some pics.
The water i am in is about 6" deep in the street already. Next high tide at 11:50 tonight when Sandy will make landfall.
Lunch Time:
Sandy is announcing her arrival. The rain is steady and the wind is blowing strong. The Garden State Parkway is closed because of flooding from Exit 62 Manahawkin, LBI, to the end, Cape May. Long Beach Island (LBI) is breached at Harvey Cedars. I heard on the radio that approx. Part of the AC Boardwalk collapsed.
Back home we are holding our own. AF53 told me that we lost Comcast. My son told me that he just got back from a fire at a Pizzaria and a grocery store in Ocean Gate. He said that flooding is not bad by us.
RI Jack: We are doing our best to keep the juice flowing.
DJ: Prayers for Tyler and your family.
Be Safe,
John
Very quiet day at work. Forgot to post earlier that Indycar may have shot itself in the foot again as they fired the guy who has made all the progress possible for the last 3 years. Sure he made some mistakes, but at least he was trying to make things better. This was probably the best year for competition in a long time.
Thoughts and prayers to all affected by the storm.
Keep on training,

Hi GUYZ,
51 and BIG rain and BIGGGER winds here. Appose to get worser later this afternoon and into tomorrow. SANDY is to come and sit right atop of HARRISBURG then go up the SUSQUEHANNA into NY and then NE. CHIEF called and was concerned of our situation here. Had a nice chat with him. TANKS CHIEF!. They expect lots o power outages here so PAM and I filled up lots o 5 gallon buckets o water for flushing toilets and also made lots o ice to have on hand for food.
AF53RAY, make sure HUDSON JOHN doesn't do anything stupid, with less then 35 days to go.
FIFE, hope you are fine down there, you getting SNO HI O?
Stay frosty my friends,
Chief - I feel sooo slighted here in central Virginia. Take heart Buckeye. You are not alone!
The usual here, schools closed, stores empty, generator at the ready. Cows moved to mostly open field to avoid falling trees.
Banks - I remember Agnes in '72. The dam went out at the lake, boat swamped, 11" of rain in 2 hrs. Took 3 month to repair dam. Chief - hope this doesn't happen to you.

Me thinks I might be in trouble this morning as wife and I were getting up and ready she ask you have anything coming this week ? I respond no nothing this week 10 minutes later get on computor won a GP-9 NYC engine I forgot I bidded on oh well what can I say.
UPDATE FROM REPORTER ROCK: The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority is shutting down the system by 2PM. The state of Connecticut is closing down the state roads. Barometric pressure in Taxachusetts here is dropping, expected to hit the lowest reading ever recorded. My reaction? I'm off to make a big batch of chili and bring in some firewood.
I have intimate knowledge of those blimp hangers in Lakehurst. Being a Navy brat, my Dad was stationed there. He worked on R4D's, Blimps (!) and finally Helos....HSL30 was his last squadron. The blimps were deployed as spotters and finally submarine hunters. I saw a few as well as the mooring masts. I actually saw them tether a blimp, which was exciting. I have never been to the crash site, but Dad said he did. There is a simple plaque there to commerorate the disaster. Been in and around those hangers for years. It is an amazing place.
Looks like we're closing up at 2 then open tomorrow (yeah, right)at noon.
for Brutus, Char, Tyler, Jeff, BOC and those in Sandy's path.
Be back later! and yes, I'm washing cars....
