Ray....It sounds like your car is not "tracking" straight.  You may need to have your alignment checked. Maybe the caster is off.  Or you may have air in your power steering unit. I can tell you a very easy way to bleed the air out if you want to send me an email.

Thumbs Up Captain MikeC.  Has a nice ring to it.

Brutus.......congrats on your new phones!  Do you use SKYPE?

BOC........get in as much prime rib as you can.  In 6 months with the corn feed going to H in a handbasket, tube steaks (hot dogs) will be all the beef we can afford. Bang Head

Jeff.......that is great news on your Mom.  Walking and getting aggravated is a good sign. Thumbs Up Angel  Put the pontoons on the lawn mower!!!!

AF Ray.........thank you for your condolences. Laugh  The Red Sox implosion is complete!!! Bang Head DougM's Cubs too, only a bit earlier than usual. SurpriseSad

HudsonJohn......prayers continue for you Mom's next round of doctor appointments. Angel

Chief......happy belated b-day to your (much better) half!!!!! Happy B-Day  Glad to hear about Frankie's addition to your "fleet."  Are you still the Admiral? Pirate

RaySP......my dentist last week told me how great my teeth are looking.  Then in the next breath, she tells me I need a deep scaling and a full set of updated xrays, presumably to see if she can find something else wrong.  The entire staff in my dentist's office walk around with teeth so white you might be tempted to use them to communicate with astronauts in outer space.  Now they are telling me I should try bleaching my teeth to get them whiter. Later, gang.

Jeffery here is a long haul from back in Feb. 25 cars, pretty good for O gauge on a 16'x12' table with a 34" curve mixed in.

Do you know why all of the videos I shoot when posted on You-tube show the trains moving so fast even tho they are going slow when shot??

That was why I stopped using Youtube. I only use Photobucket now.

Dennis,

                 Thumbs Up

Kev,

The speed difference is likely due to the .mov files created by your camera, and YouTube's use of .flv video files.  YouTubes conversion can cause issues like this one.  I use Any Video Converter to convert my files to .flv before I upload them.

20% rain chance tonight. Looks like we're getting more than that! My satellite just blacked out and it's pouring down here!

*
Well my father went out to his RV this morning to check if the generator would start. It did. so then he shut it down and pulled the fuse out of the faceplate on the genny. The fuse fell out of the fuse holder and ended up in a little hole at the bottom of the well where the fuse fits in. Now I wonder why he pulled the fuse. The thing started, it worked, obviously it was good. Why pull the fuse out? Well he wanted to see if it was good. God, I know this man isn't an idiot, so why does he act like one? Anyway, he reached in with a needle-nose pliers and managed to ground the hot contact of the fuse clamp to ground and the sparks flew! At that point I finished with mowing the grass and stopped to see what he was doing. Well I made the smart play. I took the face plate off the panel and used a small magnet on the end of a plastic rod to fish the fuse out then put the panel back on. I used a small piece of electrical tape to secure the fuse to the little holder it's in so it couldn't fall out again then put the fuse and holder back into the front of the genny. He went to start it from inside and it wouldn't do anything, not even click. I checked all the fuses in the vehicle with a fuse tester and used a multi-meter on the ones the tester wouldn't reach. So then he calls my nephew and tells him he needs him to come down to see what's ailing it. Now this man knows what bait to use. He hung a case of beer out there as a reward and the boy came running! Within an hour he found the problem. My father had fried the circuit board that controls the starter. No new board for a twenty-five year old Onan genny. So he rigged a bypass on it so it can be started and cut off. It starts now and it works! So my Father has a working genny in case the coming storm takes out the power. It's not much but it can run both fridges and a couple of lights and fans. That's all he needs it to do. Can't run a TV on it. We tried that when Rita came through in 2005. I had to carry the TV out of the house before it burned the place down! The genny puts out AC but it's not clean. The circuit for that is built into the RV but doesn't seem to work with outside appliances.

Since 5:00 pm we've been getting short showers here. Some light, others heavy. Looks like it's starting.

Just got this flash from my weather service. It's something all of us along the gulf coast should be thinking about.

...TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT...

...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE MADE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...BEFORE CONDITIONS DETERIORATE. KEEP INFORMED WHILE LISTENING FOR POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SECURE LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS WHICH CAN BE BLOWN AROUND. STRONGLY CONSIDER EVACUATING IF YOU LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME...AND DO SO IF ORDERED BY LOCAL OFFICIALS.

CLASSES AT LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY AT EUNICE WILL BE CLOSED TUESDAY.

&&

...PROBABILITY OF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS... THE CHANCE FOR HURRICANE CONDITIONS AT THIS TIME (for my area) IS LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 11 PERCENT. ALSO...THE CHANCE FOR TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS AT THIS TIME IS UP TO 75 PERCENT. THIS REPRESENTS A GENERAL UPWARD TREND SINCE THE LAST FORECAST.

...WINDS... AS TROPICAL STORM ISAAC MOVES CLOSER...THE THREAT FOR SUSTAINED HIGH WINDS IS LIKELY TO INCREASE. THE LATEST FORECAST IS FOR WINDS TO REMAIN BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE. HOWEVER...A SLIGHT JOG TO THE WEST MAY PUT SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM WINDS INTO THE AREA FROM LAKE CHARLES TO FORT POLK TO ALEXANDRIA.

It's 75 and it stayed muggy all day. Hard to breath in this stuff. Granny got 20 and a 1/2 quarts of tomatoes from her bushel. 18 to 20 is a good batch. The kitchen was closed so Pizza Hut feed us today. Daughter and 2 grandsons stopped by while on their bike ride, so we had banilla ice cream cones tonight. Finished the evening sitting on the porch till after dark. Fire up the thingy, I'm running late..S.J.

Sunny, muggy 80's today.

More cleaning in the basement tonight.  While I was working down there last night, I noticed a crack had opened up in one of the basement walls.  I'm sure that it is drought related.  Got a better look at it tonight.  It looks like there was a previous trowle & cement type repair attempted on it a while back, so it is not new.  Called a couple of foundation repair contractors to start getting estimates.  Man, are those guys having a good year around here.

Interesting note from my sister.  Her husband is getting 'downsized' one day before he retires.  So he goes on unemployment for one day then retiers Hmm?  Does this sound kind of odd to anybody else?

I forgot to mention that I cut a deal on a RI boxcar that has been in the LHS so long that the Lionel orange on the box has faded to yellow.  I think he was glad to get rid of it.

All for now.

Today was our 18th Wedding Anniversary. We celebrated by getting a new crown (tooth) for her, braces tightened for the kids, and I have some kind of sinus headache or brain lesion - not sure yet. Hope our 36th is a little more fun!  Oh - and my truck wouldn't start to take the kids to school this morning.  I called her and she was half-way home to get the kids when I finally got the truck to turn over!  So she had to turn around and go back to work and I had to race as quickly and safely as possible to get the kids to school on time!  I think my gas cap is worn out and I got some moisture in the gas from the temp changes and rain we had.  I'll get a new one if I have trouble tomorrow.  TARDIS is ready, so let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Pat. Jeff's talk about generators yesterday reminded me. Did you ever get one?

Hello Banks, yes we got a Generac 20,000 watts, whole house (well almost). It can do the whole house but we have to switch it to do the supplemental service for the barn and outbuildings.

We have LP gas on the farm so the generator runs on LP. Had occasion to test it a few hours when the electric went out, and it worked fine.

It's a sunny 66 this morning. Going to around 80.

Being a city living guy I just have a small generator that will keep the fridge, freezer and sump pump running. We have not been shopping since we got home from our trip a week ago so off we go this morning. I might cut the grass later after it dries...A slice of banana bread will be breakfast...S.J.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Rainy Taxachusetts,

Drought recovery continues as it has been raining slowly but steadily for the past three hours.  Maximus the dog was not happy taking care of business in the rain.....needs training from LAZ' Minnie in that regard.  Our dog trainer marched us all down to a pond with a beach earlier in the Spring and had all of the owners heel their dogs straight into the water, then sit them, then down them.  Heel means heel.  Maximus was the first in and the first to sit and down.  It was my wife who was worried he wouldn't do it. Whistling

Day six has commenced with the car still at the dealer (waiting on a part, or so I was told). Bang Head  Maybe they accidentally totalled the car. Whistling  RaySP.....re the Honda steering issue that continues:  this is not rocket science.  Since you have already sunk money at the dealer you chose, don't change horses, turn up the heat, suggest they consult another Honda dealership.  They don't call them "stealerships" for nothing. Bang Head

RaySP, DougDG, and V8.....good luck with the quakes.  Maybe you guys will wind up with zillion dollar beachfront properties. Wink  And Ray, what will you do if the new retention wall falls down? Laugh

8N.....I am surprised your brother-in-law did not have enough vacation days and personal days to bridge that one day gap to the "retirement" date.  Sorry to hear that, must be disappointing and stressful. Angel

Dennis......hope you and Kim have a safe trip home with the kiddies! Thumbs Up

Brutus........loved your account of your 18th anniversary.Laugh  At least it will be a memorable one! Stick out tongue

SubmmBob.....hope that peace conference with the coworker bears fruit.  If not, at least you tried and can beat him with the olive branch. Smile

Chief/KEV/Jeffrey......good deeds with family shall not go unpunished.  And the (lack of) balance between nurture and discipline in the upbringing?  Join the club. Bang Head  Success with an open and frank dialogue with the better half?  You too often get women's logic which is illogic.  Then you hear "I don't understand what went wrong with my baby?" Bang Head  They aren't babies any more.  Jeffrey, I have to agree with your Dad's highly successful strategy, bribery. Thumbs Up

Jeffrey.......you definitely need an arc, now that the storm is upon you, one large enough to protect the layout.  Pontoons and ping pong balls are not enough. Pirate  Stay dry.  You have to admit that your Dad's repair story was pretty funny. Thumbs Up

KEV.....I told my dentist I wanted to be buried with my teeth intact.  I didn't say I wanted to be dead AND bankrupt. Bang Head

DougM and KEV........my FIL lives in between you two and he says the leaves are already falling in earnest in Elgin. Surprise

PAT......you have a 20,000 watt generator?  WOW!!!  You must have more than one beer fridge to keep up and running during an outage.  LAZ must be taking notes. Laugh

FIFE.....are you sure your puffy face and swollen lip isn't the result of the wifey beating you while you snore in your sleep, or is due to an allergy to the dog she insists sleep in bed with you? Whistling

Banks........Thumbs Up on your wifey's countdown!!!

Later, gang.  Some basement cleanup (serious de-junking) is on the agenda for today.  My wife, who is one of the chief contributors to the sea of useless and worthless stuff, has been on me to take action.  Now that I am, she is concerned I am going to bag and take to the curb something she may want, even though I don't think she has been in the basement for over a decade. Bang Head
