What a mess getting here on smart phone. Gess what? Pouring rain. Was not forecasted. One county has 15 roads closed. One town has had approximately 7 inches of rain in a couple of hours. We have had 1 inch here and tapering off. Wifey said we have had about 2 inches at home. No mowing until later today or tomorrow. Resting and watching TV. God knows best. Have a good one.

Good morning. Temp-76°, humidity-93%, there's a fair chance of rain, high-85°, heat index-94°.

Nothing much planned for today. I have some cleanup work to do on the layout after my lighting project on the other GP7 last night. I didn't get the exact effect I wanted as the decoders CV50 register won't accept changes. I've had several DZ125's that had lighting problems right out of the package. But I wanted the front headlight to work in forward and reverse and now it does. Problem is it stays on no matter what even if I turn the loco lights off. Oh well, I can live with that.

Good morning all,

Chief, we could use some that rain here.  At least it's a little cooler today with low clouds this morning.

Off to TCA Western Division meeting today.  Show and tell theme today is streamliners.  I'll let the younger guys do it.  Don't feel like lugging a train set down there for show unless it's something simple like a Marx Honeymoon Express about the size of a pie plate with a train that goes around in a circle (wind up).  That was my first streamliner.

Our live in #2 son is off on a trip this week end to the bay area for car race and rail fanning.  Got the place to ourselves so we will probably eat out while he is gone.

later,

Ray

Our rainy day has begun. Just had a heavy shower pass through on it's way north. The radar shows lots more ugly weather down south moving this way. Glad I didn't have any outdoor projects planned. Looks like today's activities will be taking place while I'm ducking the thunderstorms.

Lunchtime:

81 and a bit overcast. Weatherman is calling for showers. So far a nice quiet day at work.

We took Mom to the Doctor yesterday. The lump behind her knee the doctor thinks that it is a cyst. The other lump (waiting to be censored) on her *** he feels that it is cancerous. It is small and he thinks that it can be taken care of and contained to that area. My brother Dan took her for x rays of her knee this morning and I will take her for her biopsy next week. She is in a great mood and has the right outlook.

RI Jack / SP Ray: We go thriugh the same here with warranty work. They try the lying with us and after I call them out and they find out that it is the Fleet Maint. Center and not a field operations guy the story changes. My favorite is when a dealer that messed us around in the past calls soliciting work from us. I tell it like it is with dates and jobs. The calls have slowed down.

RT: Good luck with the project. It can be a real pain.

Laz: 97 days to go. Beer

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Have a Great Day!

Hi all,

Well I went to get that 2005 Jeep Liberty  today but I did not take it. I could of got it for $1,000 because the SIL's dad thought it had a bad trans. Well I looked it over and the oil smelled fine but it was low and that is why it was slipping. The good thing was they stopped driveing it as soon as it did. So I had taken 2 qt of trans fluid with me because I though that may be the issue. It has a small leak at the TC seal but runs out fine for 188,000 on the clock. I told them to just check it and keep it full and they can run it for a long time. Sad I could of made a bundle on it but NOT the right thing to do.

I made my first asphalt road today for the table and it looks pretty good. You all have a nice evening. Time for some NASCAR

My Dad made it home from the hospital. Yes  Now he can get some rest before he starts cardiac rehab.

Mowed the lawn and spent some time in the train room today.  Reorganized a few things in anticipation of getting back to work on the layout.  Life is feeling much more normal... a good thing.

KEV......it never ceases to amaze me how folks don't check their fluid levels with any regularity any more, even when their vehicles are leaving the telltale signs on the ground.  Remember when all of the gas stations were full service?  The elimination of full service stations has been like the veritable goose that laid the golden egg for the automotive repair business.

What is great about this scenario is now the SIL owes you one, a big one, for bailing out his Dad.  Thumbs UpWinkSmile, Wink & Grin

Great to hear Charlie, So now Brutus's mother is home your dad is home YesYes

Well lets see I got about 1/2 of the wall done only had 2 trips to home depot ( two to Lowe's but they didn't have what I wanted the second time so ended up going to home depot for the 2nd time )Bang Head But progress is happening and all of a sudden the wife likes what I'm doing. had to run a new wire from kitchen outlet to out let in den as with building the wall it was too short to use and it was a good thing as they didn't have the ground hooked up to the wire from the kitchen to the den but thats corrected now. ( gets me wondering its the second place I had to correct a ground wire.

Time to relax now . Talk to you all later

No train related items going today unless you count working on the room so I can get it ready to start building a train layout in the future.

Your right Jack but here is one thing you may not know , and a lot don't. Not just the operator to blame BUT the manufacture too. Huh?

Many almost all GM cars from about 2003 and up DON'T EVEN HAVE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICKS.

Yeah that is right, they don't have a dipstick. If you look on your Caddy you may be surprised. I was doing a oil change several years ago for my dear friend Dave, (RIP) who was a CPA. He would do my taxes and I would care for his cars. Anyway I went to check the trans fluid on his 2005 Impala and could not find the dipstick. I looked in the manual and it said they did not need one and if there were transmission problem contact your dealer???

My wife's 2007 Pontiac Torrrent has no trans dipstick.

There is a way to check them from under the car but they only want the dealers to know.

Had dinner with my father today. Hamburgers and potato chips. Boy my blood sugar numbers are gonna through the roof!

Didn't like the second GP7 running short hood forward so I moved the dual wired LED to the front and changed CV29 to change the direction to long hood forward. Then had to change CV49 and CV50 to swap the light effects. The flash effect is an EOT light but I like the way it looks.

Evenin' All.

Home from the museum, pretty smooth day with no catastrophies. Surprise

Charlie, Major congas for your Dad. Yes After my heart attack, in spite of some folks saying I didn't have one, the cardio group set me up with http://www.cardiocom.com/ and my wife and I both attend the monthly "Heart Healthy Program" at the hospital. Both programs seem to have helped me, since the Cardiocom is a daily routine it helps to keep one somewhat on the "straight & narrow" since all the info gathered is reported to my cardiologist.

Kev, If only some people in D.C. displayed the same degree of character.

Be back later I hope, time to see what I can have for supper w/o crashing the diet.

It's 81 now was 91 at 3pm today.

A quiet day here, granny was resting from her week with the kids, so I rested too. Spent some time on the laptop, on the couch, and watched some TV. Had some banilla with cooked warm apples on top. Very good treat. CTT did arrive today but I just thumbed through it. I will wait up for the thingy...S.J.

Kev,

My brother's former Grand Am was a 99 and had no trans dipstick.  You had to get under it and remove the filler plug on the trans to check the fluid. My 00  Sunfire (don't miss it at all) had a trans dipstick though.Hmm  I am suprised the fluid never burnt with what I put that car throughLaugh

Brutus and Charlie,

                                Thumbs Up

KEV.....you are right.  On the Caddy you have to take out the fill plug on the driver's side of the tranny.  The level should be up to just below the fill plug, ya just stick in your pincky..  Seems to me the old dipstick is a lot more sensible versus running the vehicle up on ramps and crawling under there with a wrench.......Bang Head

In your SIL's Dad's situaton, and with the amount the transmission was low, there had to be some telltale spots on the ground/driveway.

Good evening all,

Cannot recall when I posted last.  Watched the "my" soccer kids both lose today, Girls 6-0 and Boys 1-0.  Mowed the yard earlier in the day.  Watched "Hope Springs" last night.  Good acting.  Boys wond 12-0 Thursday night while Girls lost 2-0.  My season starts Tuesday and surprisingly I am the team captain.  Could be interesting season.  Both AJF and SFH Racing teams are starting in the back for Sonoma.  Just not a good weekend sportwise.  Did read latest CTT.  Some good stuff in there.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

We went to my folks' house for the afternoon and brought lunch.  We had a great visit and it's good to see my Mom doing so well!  We then went to AT&T as I was out-voted on getting new phones.  We ended up with new phones all around and spent too much money on them, but I do like my new phone - it's about 10 times faster than my old one anyway.  We went out to eat and had some good family time.  Got the new CTT in the mail and it looks good.  TARDIS is running late so we'll use the way-back circuit to get some banilla.  Let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning. It's 73° with 90% humidity. There's a small chance of rain. The high will be 92° but will feel like 103°.

Nothing happening this morning. Just watching twp GP7's and a GP35 haul a train around the layout. Problem is it's going through landscapes dominated by tools and project debris. Gonna have to do something about that.

The report on my mother is that she's doing well considering the state of her health. She can sit up, feed herself, carry on a conversation, insult the nursing home employees, etc. She is not able to walk very far but is determined to try.

It's a sunny 73 going to 89.

I think granny wants to go out looking for some tomatoes to can. She has done 8 qts from the garden but I don't plant enough for canning. I'm just staring at this screen, can't think of anything I need to say this morning.

Hi GUYZ,

71 here and on and off rain showers.  Took the gal for a walk and I might have to run on treadmill today.  Gotta call a see how much for dumpsters tomorrow.  Have to rip off shed roofs and put on new ones.

CHUCK, TRIBE is not doing so good.  At least they beat DA YANKERS last nite.

CHARLIE, good news for you and your DAD.

Good morning all!

Not much going on here just work, work, work. Remember what that was like Laz?

Trying to form plans for a new layout but with limited space (5x8) I have little options. You GUYZ with more room make me jealous. If only........

Yes the Tribe beat the Yanks yesterday and DougM's White Sox weren't a very good host but what can you do. There are high's and lows in a 162 game schedule. I say enjoy the wins when you can. I honestly feel bad for RI Jack. What a bunch of sad sacks. I guess they did the right thing by breaking it down and rebuilding.

Three more games left on our Yankee game schedule and Monday against the Blue Jays is next.

HudsonJohn - Angel for you mom, hope it's an easy fix.

That's about it, have a nice and relaxing Sunday all!
