Good morning. It's 72° with 100% humidity. The high will be 88° but will likely feel like 99°. There's a very good chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Nothing much going on today. Looks like I'll be ducking more thunderstorms. I have to do some work on one of my GP9 Frankenlocos today. Nothing major. I used super glue to hold the motor in place when I built it. It's broken loose twice. Super glue can't stand much shear force apparently. So today I'll secure it in place with hot glue. Other than that just do some more cleanup on the layout.

Early good morning.  Getting ready to take the "kids" to the groomer.

Chief if you laid all new track why didn't you use Fastrack? Better contacts,b etter switches.

Did not lay all new track.  Had 90% of the switches [had extra switches in boxes from earlier] and 75% of the track.  Big investment to change over.

Have a good one.

I do feel a lot better, Joe, thanks!

Just had a nice chat with SJ about the problems of the world.  We might have solved them, but it's pretty late and we got tired.  Maybe next time?

Just got off the computer chat with CHARTER.  The other night after we turned off our DVR box, the DVR functions all went away?  We rebooted it and they sent a signal to it, but it is not working now.  We can watch cable tv all we want, but no guide.  The box isn't even listed on their website, so I think it must be an old one - we have had it for at least 5 years now I think?  Maybe more?  We'll exchange it at the local office tomorrow.  Unfortunately, we just lost like 60 hours of stuff we had "taped" to watch!  Oh well.

TARDIS is ready - let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Konnichiwa,

BJJ class wore me out last night and I went to bed somewhat early.  I have not sparred in so long that I need to get used to it again.  Running eight miles doesn’t wear me out like sparring for 10 minutes does.  I slept a little longer this morning too as my body was sore.  The weather is beautiful today and there isn’t a rain cloud in sight.  I was able to watch the Home Run Derby while in my office.  I’m usually not too interested in it, but it was entertaining this year.  I’m finishing my lunch break now and I have a rather easy agenda for the remainder of the workday.

Jack – I hate to say this, but I’m kind of glad the trooper actually pulled you guys over for this.  While your wife’s explanation was logical, I cannot stand seeing so many cars cruising along in the passing lane.  It drives me nuts when I end up passing them while I’m in the right lane which of course is illegal in some places (it’s called “overtaking on the right”).  In the end it was nice of him not to ticket you and I’m glad you only received a warning.  I just wish more troopers were as vigilant on this one.  Also, did she notice all the boxes were gone? Surprise

Brutus – I hope you are feeling better.

SP Ray – I’m sorry about your fence/backyard dilemma.  I hope it all works out for you, and kind of as Pat said, you’re being very gracious in trying to work with your neighbor, but in the end you need to make sure the yard work doesn’t negatively impact your property.

Sayonara,

Joe

Probe - Yes, they can.  Some of them make all of their enforcement that way.  At 35%, you shouldn't worry.  IMHO, tint never caused an accident.  Typically, if you can see the color of the interior, it's ok.

Tired eyes.  Been soldering track that an eight year old can snap together [bull s--t].  Got all of left side of Box soldered, screwed down and tested.  Still a long way to go.

The rain that was to start at noon has not gotten here. yet.  Bang Head  Was suppose to rain here and then move south and east.  Well, rained south and east but not here.

Early rise.  Taking "kids" to groomer and then doing a video entrance.  Then back to the Box.

Off to bed.  Locking up the Box.

Ray - Just my opinion, I think you are being taken advantage of by your neighbor. If the trees are on your land then your neighbor as no say in the matter.

Pat

There was a case not too long ago where somebody kept going after trees that were on someone else's property...they got fined a whole whack of money for the damages....

It's 79 and we had sun all day.

We actually bought something at the mall. Shoes. Then we had lunch at a local Coney that has 99 cent ones for all of July. No supper of course but did have banilla...S.J.

Afternoon/Evenin' All.

Getting warmer here, mid 90's on the patio, at least it's as dry as a popcorn toot so it doesn't feel to hot.

Just kinda vegging out trying to recover a bit. Long day at the museum on friday, even when everything runs rite it can still be a long day when the energy runs out. Spent saturday putting a couple of coats of poly on the cabinet drawers so I could finally finish the kitchen base cabinets on sunday. Unfortunately a couple of flies decided to visit one prior to the poly being dry. Had to sand and redo one drawer early sunday and put it all back together that nite.

BOC, It is amazing what happens when one has a "health emergency" with regard to weight. June of last year when I had my heart attack I lost 30#'s almost overnite, not sure if it was the heart attack or the meals they served in the hospital. Whistling So far I haven't put back on but about four pounds, although it does fluctuate a bit when I over-indulge in salty foods. Hang tuff guy, we're all pulling for you. Angel

Jack, I'm not gonna go anywhere near your "traffic stop scenario". Bang Head

Chief, Sounds as though you are really making some progress. Thumbs Up

Jeffrey, A very belated Happy B-Day.

Kev, Mean you didn't pull a CSI scene with a wooden dowell, or a laser pointer, thru the hole to trace the slugs path. Clown

Later all.

After 27 years of being a street monster, you pick up on some things.  One of which, is that people tend to have the basic urge to want to control others around them (sometimes because they have little control of their own meager lives).  Self-righteous folks tend to be the worst.

Sigh  I won't miss it...

We have such monsters, er people out here. I ignore them with equal enthusiasm. Once in a while one gets a bee in their bonnet and says I need to rake my yard. I tell them where the rake is and to have fun. There's no law or rule out here that says I have to do it. I can't do it anyway.

EDIT 7:12 pm: Today's been one storm after another with a peppering of power outages in between. Had lunch at my parents place today. Pork chops, home fries, green beans. Then I went to a Parish Police Jury meeting with my father to hear about what they'll be doing with taxes and he could speak his piece about them and also lodge a complaint about why the road out here hasn't been improved when the others around us have. There weren't many area residents there so his words didn't carry the weight he had hoped they would. It was more like a whisper on the wind. We came back home, gathered the family and enjoyed a watermelon. This is the first chance I've had to get back online today for more than a few minutes. The power was acting crazy much of the day.

I wanted to ask you about window tint since you are in law enforcement.  Can officers pull folks over just for tinted windows alone and no other law violations?  I have tint on the way that is 35% VLT (Visible Light Transmittance).  It can still be seen through, and isn't too dark.

I'll give you an answer you don't want to hear but here goes from experience because of living in 3 states recently and 5 in last 10 years each state laws are different and when I was in both FL. ( about 10 years ago and VA the answer was yes now TN and actually here not sure if its the only present violation not sure but do know in all if its a suspected violation a officer in most cases can pull you over weather it be wrong lane to dark tint per your state or believes your driving to fast for condition but bottom line is what your state sets as guidelines I know PA. use to be one of the toughest for a lot of things but I haven't lived in PA. in about 30 years. So a lot has changed I'm sure.

Now if it is yes he can use that just to pull you so he can see whats all not necessary to harass you because car is loud or your doing jack rabbit stops from the light and he wants to just meet you to like give you a warning. Its tuff being young with a hot car I know from experince I use to have a few hot cars myself I wish I still had acouple of them espeially my 67 mustang 289 HIPO  now that was a quick car and fun to drive.

JimmyT........the limit may vary by state.  Our Taxachusetts statute reads as follows:

  1. What are the specifications for aftermarket window tinting?
For most vehicles, aftermarket tinting that registers at least 35% on a tint meter on side windows immediately adjacent to the driver and front passenger seats, and side windows immediately to the rear of the operator and passenger, is acceptable. The rear window may be tinted to the 35% level, but the vehicle must be equipped with two outside rear view mirrors. The windshield may only be tinted down to the AS-1 line, which is usually located in the uppermost (6) inches of the windshield.

Good afternoon all,  I have had a very stressful day and night last night over the fence project in the back yard.  Yesterday my DIL comes over and throws a fit over the trees I'm having taken out for the wall.  Then she reconvinces me that I should not lose them.  Then I make a fool of myself and tell the neighbor that I have changed my mind about the trees.  Then we both make several arguments over why the trees should stay or go.  Fence guys came this morning and starts working on new footing for block wall.  After old fence and debris are cleared out, I am finally convinced that the trees must go.  The old footing they are trying to replace turns out to be a retaining wall to keep my yard from joining his since I am a little higher .  Some old fence post were erected on top of this retaining wall and a chain link fence was installed years ago.  When my pool was built the dirt removed was spread around the pool and consequently built up the whole back yard.  The neighbor wants to take out this retaining wall and put in a new footing in its place for the block wall.  The old footing is too uneven to build a wall on.  I Just hope my higher yard doesn't fall into his ditch when they take out the retaining wall.  If this is not enough, when the fence guys are digging for a new foundation they uncover an ancient dry well underground.  That is where my rain water drains from the back of the house.  I ran a hose through the other end and the water came out right where they were digging.  I asked the guy if they could put an extension on the old drain pipe to clear the new footing which would then be on top of it.  Otherwise, water is going to back up and possibly flood my garage during a heavy rain.  I might just install a sump pump to take it off?  I have tried to be a good neighbor but this is killing me.  Hope it all turns out well.  Grandson and I will take a swim this afternoon before the whole back yard gets destroyed.  Unfortunately, I agreed to this project before I knew what I was getting into so now I have to live with it.  Sadder but wiser in California,

Ray

Going to be raining by noon or early afternoon.  Which day?  Sun is out and scorching the garden.  Started soaker hoses.  Worked in garden and side dressed tomatoes, squash, peppers and cucumbers.  Now if we get the rain they claim, this garden will really produce.  Got giant tomatoes, long cowhorn peppers, big bell peppers and big chillis.  Tomato plants are now from 6 feet tall to 8 feet tall and growing.  Double stacked baskets [square type from Burpee] so they will not go back down to the ground.  Some are out of the top of those.  Keep them suckered, add fertilizer and plenty of water.

Feels good in the Box.  Now to do some soldering.  Got to pick up 5 more lockons for me to be comfortable.  I over do it.  Then start bringing all the rolling stock over.  Then the big task of taking down [and out from upstairs] the old layout.  Will have some good lumber and where to store it?  The top was glued down so it will be destroyed when taken up.

Downing another bottle of Lipton Diet Green Tea Citrus.

RockIsland - allow me to translate: "Hey lady, the hammer lane is not for pokie people like you."

RT and Fifey.......I can't wait to pass on this story about HIS daughter to my 91 year old Father-In-Law.  When he was a young man he built and raced cars and boats extensively and he wore out the floorboards on his cars under the gas peddle, running his cars flat out on public roads.  NOW he claims that the speeders do not deserve the left lane and that he has every right to block that lane as long as he's doing the speed limit plus 5........except when a State Trooper or a local police officer is on his tail.  Then he quickly moves over to the right.  Should be a good exchange.  Whistling

I tell him the state laws, the road signs, and the rules of the road say "slower traffic keep right' and "keep right except to pass."  They do NOT say "except when it pleases you" or "except when those in the left lane are doing the speed limit."  Or that passing is defined as taking 3 miles to pass slower traffic on the right.  Passing on the right is likewise technically not legal either.

This should be a good one.  At least he survived his latest health care crisis and is around for me to harass him!!  Thumbs UpLaugh

By the way, Fife, my wife was lucky this time around.  Normally she is driving the speed limit plus 15 (or more) on the highways and Interstates.  She hides in the pack and rationalizes "They can't pull me over because everyone is speeding."  One of these days.....

Hey guys - taking a short break at work.  Didn't feel well yesterday, just blah.  Ended up falling asleep in the recliner watching a movie with my son.  Later, I had a nice chat with the guys.  Didn't really do anything tho.  Feeling a lot better today, but still really tired - think I got some bug.  Oh well - gotta go kick in some SS for the box!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
