Hello all,

Still a muggy 84 here

Pat, do a google shopping  search for PTO Generators. There are many price ranges and features. I would keep the size of the generator less than the tractor is capable of. Tractor governors are not as responsive as the ones on direct drive alternators. A lighter load will be easier for it to maintain. Remember engine speed will directly affect frequency and voltage output.

Gonna try to stay cool this weekend

Jeffery  Happy B-Day

Prayers for those in need

If you convert the recent triple digit temperatures into celcius, it gets a whole lot better.  Why today the high was only going to be about 38 degrees C.  Temperatures like that, I'd better take a jacket with me next time I go outside!

Got my monster running on the test track with clip leads for wiring:

Further mock up.  it is going to be an A-B-A set up:

KEV - Yes, all of the motors will be controled bt a single e-unit.  There will be a power pick up in each A-unit, and a 4 conductor cable between each unit.  All of the motors are dual axle magnetraction too.  I'm planning a MoPac paint scheme.

All for now.

Howdy guys - 105 again today.  We're hoping for rain this weekend sometime and cooler temps in the 90s next week.  DougM - Funny that it's cooler where you are going than in Chicago!!!  Happy Birthday, Jeffrey!  Prayers for BoC and for our friends and loved ones.  Went out to dinner but ended up going 3 places and they were all crowded.  We ended up at Culvers for burgers and frozen custard.  TARDIS is ready, so let's hit the road - some A&W with banilla sounds good to me Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening CTTFans...

Can you say MONSOON RAIN!!!!!!!

The High Pressure system that has sat over Colorado for so long causing historical record heat has given way and RAIL is falling in abundance here tonight.

With that, Flash Flood warnings are out all over the place including in the fire zones.  Up at the fire zone near Ft Collins, mudslides are occurring and Highway 14 causing a new round of evacuations.  These poor folks can get a break even with the rain now...

Happy Birthday Jeff

It's 93 now..

We stayed in and had pizza. It was granny's idea, she didn't want to go out and I didn't do anything out there today either. No train news today, I went through the Lionel Christmas catalog but I really don't get into that stuff. RT that's a pretty nice AC unit but I thought the Chief still had an ice box. When did he upgrade? I had my banilla but got plenty for the thingy crew. I'll toss in some A & W....S.J.

Calling it a night early. Had some storms come through today and as a result there are one or more locations where power connections are having fits. Not bad enough to go completely out but not good enough to keep the lights on steady. It's my birthday tomorrow and I have no idea what may be going on if anything. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Friday afternoon - (and yeah, it's a good Friday, cuz it's payday...Smile, Wink & Grin)

Been absent due to lack of computer access....my brother and his wife are in the room with the computer in it.

I haven't caught up on the pot, just wanted to let youse giz know I was still alive.

Been in the mid to hi 90's and have had a major fire event once a week for at least the last 5 weeks.  And with the heat and humidity, it has been a work out.  Opening a roof during a major thunder/lightning storm was interesting to say the least.  I'm sure Dennis understands what I'm saying.  And July 1st was the anniversary of Hackensack.....not a good thing, but we live and learn and move on.

4th of July was fun, most of the family was over.  My 2nd God-daughter and her friend went with me to Jamesburg and watched the fireworks.  Had 2 calls later on, 1 due to a lightning strike.

Last night had a rescue on the turnpike, victim walked away.  Lost a front tire on a E250 van. blew through a guard rail and rolled.  Seat belts do work.  Also had a fire alarm at  0200, turned out to be a bad CO detector.

Daughter still in FLA....which in my estimation, is not a good thing.  My Mrs. called last week (she was, um, toasted), screamed, yelled and cried for 5 minutes and hung up.  Hopefully that helped her.  Being civil to my soon to be ex is a challenge at best.

Angel for those of us ill or in trouble or in need.  I'll be by soon I hope.

Good afternoon everyone.  Done with my case in early fashion, which is great on a Friday.  We got our official notice of our childrens' Visa applications.  We are one more day and one more step closer to getting our kids!  Pat, the Northern stuff is new.  Just make sure you are there when the freight carrier arrives, as we have had some damaged tractor implements that the best way to deal with are to refuse the shipment.  While it is not a frequent occurrence, dealing with large damage equipment can be a pain.

Jack, thanks, I did marry above myself!  We are discussing the whole patience thing right now.  While it has seemed like each step is taking so long, the closer we get, the faster the pace seems.

I will continue prayers.  Hope everyone has a great weekend

God bless,

DougM Re that train wreck in Northbrook IL and the coal all over the place. my 91 year old father in law commented yesterday that back in the Depression, when folks could hardly put food on the table and had no money, that a coal spillage such as Northbrook's would require no cleanup crew.  Folks would just show up in droves with buckets and bags and haul the coal off to keep them warm in the winter.

Jack I see they found a man and his wife in the car that was under all that coal.

KEV - I guess I have led a sheltered life. Been farming for 32 years, apparently in my own little world. One question - Is the items in the Northern Tool catalog new or reconditioned?

The added value to this forum in the good information we exchange.

Pat

Pat,

The ones I looked at were new. In the 2012 Summer catalog. They are on sale right now too.

The 13,000 Watt is a Northstar Item # 165929-2207

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_36914_36914?isSearch=165929-2207

The 7,800 watt one is also a Northstar and it is item # 165951-2207

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200308467_200308467?isSearch=165951-2207

Northstar is Northern’s own brand I think. They also sell a trailer to mount it on but you could weld up a platform to mount to the 3 point hitch if you have metal shop tools for a lot less. If you look in the add they show pictures of customer set ups. The transfer load center in picture # 3 is the same one I use..

I have also seen PTO gen sets at farm auctions.

Hope this helps.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

Thank you for the prayers for my FIL, guys.  He seems to be doing significantly better (understatement), maybe because he is (1) doing what the Doctors prescribed, (2) has kept his follow up visits,  and has a visiting nurse coming in once a week to keep him on the straight and narrow.  Whistling  Nah!!!!!!  Couldn't be that, couldn't be that simple, could it?  Yup.Thumbs Up and Bang Head  Better late than never......I would tease him about his stubbornness and obstinacy but think I will let that one slide.

Weather?  What the other guys said less 5 degrees or so, and for the next two days at least!  No rain in the longer forecast.  I have been getting up early to get the air-conditioned room temperatures and humidity (and content) cooled down a few degrees before the oppressive heat sets in.  Thermostat set at 74 for the time being but may up it a couple of degrees shortly.

Some local guy was in the news two days ago.  Seems he went to a cemetary to visit the gravesite of a loved one and came across a tarantula crawling in the grass.  Trapped it with a baseball cap and turned it over to someone who is finding an adoptive home for the poor arachnid.  The theory is that the spider escaped from someone's home.  Asked the wife if she thought we should adopt it.  She was not even remotely amused. Laugh

Poo patrol on my ranch was completed early this morning by yours truly (by the wife?  Ain't happening) and the weekly lawn mowing soon to follow......heat or no heat.  She calls these activities MW......men's work.

The wife and I were sitting out on the deck at about 7pm last night when she asked me what seemed wrong with the re-siding job (from wood clapboard to vinyl) some workers were conducting on a nearby home.  Yup.  You guessed it.  They were working their way up one side of the house.  Halfway up the siding got quite a bit darker in color than what was below it and what the front of the house looked like.....about 10 rows worth.  They are tearing it off now.  I can't believe they didn't see the difference sooner.  Maybe too much time spent in the sun or sipping on the Chief's home brew??  Laugh

Maximus the dog now has even more invaders of his yard.  First there were the Canadian geese which have since taken up residence elsewhere due to Maximus relentless yard patrol.  These were accompanied by some obviously promiscuous rabbits who reside in the upland weeds behind our home, still do.  Then 2-3 weeks ago what my wife refers to as the "killer bunnies" arrived as the "procreation and propagation" process commenced.. Whistling  It now it appears that the chipmunks are back.  And a squirrel has taken up residence in the tree right by our deck which the dog can easily see through the full view door off the kitchen onto the deck.  Drives him nuts......until I give him the command to pipe down.  Dogs bark, that is what they like to do.

Joe......please know that you have our collective prayers for your wife, Judy.  Hang in there. Angel

BOC........keep on swinging, buddy.  Angel  Whatever it takes.  Don't worry about the weight.  The POT is loaded with experts who will help advise you with ideas on how to get it back in short order, as much as you want.  We've got a million ideas.  My doctor had told me last Summer that at 5'8" he wanted me down to 155 lbs., for reasons he did not explain.  He's a very........uh, optimistic fellow. Smile, Wink & Grin

DougM........am so glad that the eye work you have been having is successful.AngelThumbs Up  Will Kelly recognize you without your glasses? WhistlingRe that train wreck in Northbrook IL and the coal all over the place. my 91 year old father in law commented yesterday that back in the Depression, when folks could hardly put food on the table and had no money, that a coal spillage such as Northbrook's would require no cleanup crew.  Folks would just show up in droves with buckets and bags and haul the coal off to keep them warm in the winter.

MikeC......sounds like everything by you is well under control.  That is what a level head, patience, and listening got you.  Thumbs Up  You also have my continued prayers for your wife's BIL. Angel

Dennis.....your wife has the patience of a Saint.  First to be married to you Smile, Wink & Grinand second to maintain an even keel until your adoptions go through. Thumbs Up  T-minus 2 months, hopefully less!!!  Hang in there!!! Angel

FIFE......it seems my wife has been totally unaware of the more salacious and titlilating advantages of having a her very own pool boy.  Whistling  Any sailing updates? Pirate

DonB.....re the lawn project.  After this many failed attempts I would be inclined to consult a lawn and garden expert.  You added topsoil to mitigate the clay.  The right full sun seed mix should have done the trick.  Perhaps the grass roots can't go deep enough into the clay so that the lawn is self sustaining without constant watering, roots growing sideways instead of down towards China seeking moisture when things get dry.

My Dad had a back yard flooding issue due to the packed clay.  Resolved it with advice by adding two full dump truck loads of what was called "torpedo sand," very course.  Over the entire lawn, four inches worth.  After application the back yard looked like a beach, covering all of the grass.  But that sand worked its own way down into the ground and the clay inside of two weeks, the grass re-emerged, the sand broke up the clay, and he never had a problem with the flooding again.  Of course, I was conscripted to spread the mountains of sand by wheelbarrow, shovel, and rake.  And no, the soil was not sandy after that either. Go figure.

Darren......is there anything green left out by you?  What a mess!!!!

Jeff, BOC, and HudsonJohn.....re that guy in NH that has been doing this fireworks display for 15 years without incident before the explosion that blew off and burned off the back of his house a couple of days ago, sending 11 to the hospital (two children med-flighted to Boston hospitals).  While the story has not faded from the local news, the cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.  Or if it has, nothing is being said to the public.  All of the neighbors interviewed seemed sympatheitic and said the guy practices safety.  I suppose it is what you do not know or control that comes back to bite you. Whistling  Learning life's lessons the hard way.

8n........now THAT is hot!!!!  113 degrees on your car thermometer!!!!!  Maybe RaySP should start grilling his food on his Buick's hood and then just drive the car through the car wash so he doesn't have to clean his grill!!!!  WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

RaySP.......two hours in the dentist's chair to do a root canal?  Dull drill?!? Surprise  And what I don't understand with these things is why the dentist can't get things done in a single visit, always seem to have you coming back for one thing or another.  Hope they weren't torturing you......or if they were, she was good looking. Whistling  I hear you when you say it is a shame to have to take down those two cypress trees.  If I were the neighbor, wanting a fence/wall or no, I think I would prefer to keep your trees and just have you prune them back a bunch.

SJ......I thought banilla with chocolate syrup and peanuts IS dinner.  Ya got your dairy, protien, and carbs.  What more is there?  Laugh

Chief........the last time my wife bought patio furniture she joined me on the deck to put it all together.  It was in the 90s at the time.  She was one unhappy camper.  Besides the heat, the directions were obviously written by an idiot and the parts didn't seem to line up correctly, even though the set she chose was of a higher quality.  "Light assembly required" and "all you need is a screwdriver and a set of locking pliers."  Yeah, right!!! Bang Head  By the way, with the high temperatures you have been getting, do you finish contructing the furniture and then just look at it from the comfort of the A/C while watching it cook outside?

Later, gang.

TGIF CTTFans!

Even though I had the holiday break on Wednesday this week seems to have worn me out.  I guess it was because it was like having two Monday's in the same week at work.  Got lots of stuff to do right now so see you all on the return trip...

I have a crew in today working on what will be my wood working shop. Just to hot for me to be doing the work.. by the time I finish the farm chores it is to hot to do carpentry. And I hate dry wall. Better to hire it done and stay reasonable cool.

It was 82 at 7:30 am. And it's going to 101, so they say. I don't care it's summer and I'll take it. I had to hose off my truck this morning as a neighbor thought it was still the 4th of July last night. I wouldn't mind so much but they started shooting stuff off a month ago, it's getting old now.. Friday is our eat out day but it's gonna be on the lite side, too hot for a big meal...S.J.

Jack I just looked and 103 here and climbing, Too hot to be outside.

Doug, I see they found a automobile under the coal. But they have not said if anyone is in it. Dead

Pat, have you ever seen a Northern Tools catalog? They have PTO units in there also you can go to their web site to look as well.

13,000 Watt gen is $1,400 That is a lot of power, 2- 20amp 120V outlets 1- 30amp 120V outlet and 1 50amp 220v . It needs only 24 HP at the PTO You have the tractor and PTO shaft already. They also have a 7,000 watt set for $999.00 It will do 30amp on 220v. It needs 14 HP at the PTO. John Deere also sells them but they would be three times as much.  Smile, Wink & Grin Most farm stores have them too.

KEV - I guess I have led a sheltered life. Been farming for 32 years, apparently in my own little world. One question - Is the items in the Northern Tool catalog new or reconditioned?

Banks

Pat , you need approximately 2 PTO horsepower per 1000 watts (1kw) Then wire it in with a manual transfer switch. Most dairy farms have one. They are in remote locations and it's hard to milk cows by hand.

Good morning all,

It is HOT in SE Indiana with temps in the 100s and no rain.  Finally got the van and the dog back last night so life is mostly back to normal.  Did not have to replace the module so the bill was not too bad.  Lucas and fiancee will be home today looking for jobs and an apartment.  Both Indycar and F-1 on network TV this weekend.   Woo-hoo!  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Aloha. Hot and muggy still - just like it is supposed to be in the South. But chipping along on a few projects and the eyes keep getting better.

Hello All,

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!

Muggy 72 @ 5:00 this AM. They are predicting the hottest day in many years tomorrow.

Much on the plate this weekend. Need to get the camper ready for the upcoming trip to Delaware Seashore State Park. Also need to resolve an issue with folks insurance. They've been married for 66 years and now the insurance co insists on proof of marriage. The want a copy of their 1040 and a government issued certificate of marriage. A trip to the Court House and $7.00 secured the Marriage License. Still have to upload it to their website.

The Alto Model Train Museum Association has moved to the Antique Depot in Duncansville. (They lost their lease at their old place when the Bank foreclosed on the owner) Now they are only 5 minutes away and open every weekend. I should be able to take the Grandkids more often.

SS Fund calls.

Prayers for those in need
