Good evening all,
A late post for me due to all the homework I had to complete. I would have finished quicker if I didn't take breaks to watch Spartacus. I bid (offered) on some pre-war passenger cars last night, but the seller never even replied/counter-offered. My offer was a little low, but I figured the seller would at least come back one time. I was definitely willing to offer more and I’m sure we could have come to a fair agreement. Oh well, I'll keep looking.
SJ - I hope Granny's checkup goes well. I hope you are preparing meals for her.
AF Ray and Jack - I hope the Yankees take tomorrow night off and Orioles bring their best.
Jonadel - I'm looking forward to seeing your layout spread.
Doug CNW - What are your thoughts on Ozzie’s firing? His comments about money and happiness were ludicrous.
Good night,
Joe
Just got home from work and caught up on the past few days reading.
RaySP - for your sister and the doctors that are treating her.
Chuck - Nice and slow is the best game plan, keep it up!
Jack - I know getting your foot in the door to the playoffs is nice but this past month has got to be brutal for you. And I just heard that Girardi will give our top guys in the bullpen tomorrow off for two full days rest for Friday. You might be playing on Thur for winner take all!
Good night all!

Took a ride to the last bike night of the year...and Jon I will blame you and RIJack for making me go...it was disappointing to say the least...there were maybe 6 bikes there and 2 left just after I arrived. I waited 10 minutes for a menu and another 10 then left. Oh well, there are always others...The air was cool and crisp and I really wanted to ride, but alas, I just went home. I will be planning a ride to the Kittatiny Mountains later in October.
Picked up one of my checks today and some of my tools. The ol' Wagon fired right up and did not disappoint! Thundering through the back road of Jersey to what used to be my employ, we cruised off on a short, albeit exciting and quick trip. Surrounded by Corn fields, I knew I really was home.
Got some of my tools, met up for lunch with a girl friend of mine and cruised home. A quick fire call later, I was off to home in the neon.
We did the Blue Ridge in the Wagon in '07. Loved every minute of it. I wish I could do it on the bike, that would be spectacular!
Faxed over my Atlas O Golden Spike application...kinda late for renewal, but at least I got it in..
for us all, Roy, Chuck, Dougnotta, Fifey and anyone else I've missed.
That's all from Exit 8....

Good Evening
59 and we had a decent day.
I agree about the Blue Ridge, The Skyline Drive in Va. is a must see. Especially the northern 50 miles. Well I finished OGR today, I don't read every word, just skim the layout articles. As usual CTT has not arrived yet.Banilla is waiting for the thingy..S.J.

Good evening everyone. Not a bad day, but a lot to work on. One of the aspects of international adoption is that you have to take a 12 hour course required by the Hague Treaty. It can be taken over the course of the waiting before travel, but it is a lot of work. Has a test after every hour of class, which is on line.
Jon, I would love to have tagged that Elk. Nice 5x6 with strong bases. They are huge animals. It now looks like my heading out to Colorado for a hunting trip will be delayed till after the adoption. Oh well, hope they save some elk for me????
With some time to myself, it will be nice to get some work done. I hope to get some supplies tomorrow after dropping the kids off at school, so I can finish the storage room and move onto the electrical work. Eventually, I hope to get the rest of my honey do list done before long.
May Y'all have a great night.Dennis

Jon...I have been to Delores, CO and Rico, too. SW Colorado is one of the most interesting places in this country. I still think you need ot ride the Blue Ridge and W. Virginia.
I have a train ride scheduled for weekend after next.

Another nice autum day here.
Jonadel - your elk picture reminds me of the discussion we had while riding an a very small car in Finland. There were 3 meter tall fences on both sides of the road. We asked why. The answer was to reduce the chance of a car/moose colision. About then, I realized that the moose would be almost equal in weight to the car we were riding in!
All for now.
John, prayers for your co workers. Tragic situation.
Chuck, good to hear about the Cheerios again. Take care of yourself.
Jack, good story about a trained dog versus one who is'nt. BTW, next door neighbor found good homes for two of his collies and now has three left. Keeps two in the back of house in a dog run and kennel but rotates one to the front behind hedge and fence. The one in front seems to bark at anything that passes their house. Mainly walkers and other dogs. Forgot to mention the mailman. It would be nice to see a dog like yours.
D. Baker, Ambrose wrote D Day and I think he wrote the book Band of Brothers that the TV series was based on. He also wrote another little book called Comrades which I liked. It's about friends. He was instrumental in getting the D Day Museum started in New Orleans near his home in Bay St. Louis. It was in New Orleans that all those landing craft for the invasion were built. When he was researching the Union Pacific Railroad for his book, they gave him a cab ride over Donner Pass where part of the Transcontinental Railroad was built between Sacramento and Ogden, Utah. Of course, he wrote a lot about Lewis and Clark and hosted a series about it on TV.
My sister has an appointment with the oncologist today to talk about what to do now. She may have to make some heavy duty decisions today about her treatment.

JACK,
We use the drops on the back of thre dog and also she gets a Lime disease shot every year at the Vet.
laz57
Good stuff, LAZ......both the topical control AND the Lyme disease shot. We use the same type of stuff year round now. If you ever saw a dog or a human with Lyme disease you know it can cause some really tough going and is tough to knock down.
Ticks don't die off in the Winter. They kind of hibernate. If your weather is anything like ours during the Winter, we do get occasional brief warm spells where the daytime temps might reach 50 or 60. The ticks become active during those brief spells, are hungry, and are out looking for a ride and a meal. Our breeder recommends year round application to keep the critters at bay and to keep the dogs and humanoids safe.. Our vet said no problema.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
jonadel I was thinking of Laz when I saw this guy on a rainy morning on Trail Ridge Road, HUGE doesn't even describe the animal. The great payoff though was seeing this working Galloping Goose in Delores, CO. I about went off the road when I saw it out of the corner of my eye, I changed my afternoon plans so I could come back and visit it before I headed back to Montrose, more about it in the future.

JON,
AWESOME pic of the BIG ELK saw a bunch of em out there in Jellystone back in '96 when we backpacked around Shoshone Lake. Had them about 15 feet from our tent.
Good Mornin Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,
Peak Fall foliage viewing in my neck of the New England woods is expected around October 15-21. Gorgeous Fall weather continues, and it's good to be able to stop and smell the........mums. I have been taking care of my wife's with regular watering and the help of some Miracle Grow. Yes, I read the instuctions. And they look so good they look fake.
Last night I took the whole fam damily to a local hot dog stand Scotty Dog for dinner and a fundraiser for *** cancer. 1950s drive-in motiff. The outdoor tables and chairs were full from the stream of customers. The stand was opened by a transplant chef from Chicago who decided it was better working for himself rather than someone else. The dogs and burgers are made to order, or you can get some ideas off the menu. Best fries I have had. The place was humming and the number of Chicago transplants coming out of the woodwork was surprising. I like to frequent businesses that "give back," and hope this guy makes a profitable go of it.
Wife and I took Maximus the dog down to the ocean on Sunday to a park and the beach, on leash per the park rules. We wanted to get in some obedience training with distractions. Maximus did not disappoint. Some woman at a distance could be seen coming in our direction from the parking lot, being dragged by her dog. The dog was barking, snarling, and growling at everyone with a dog they passed. As the woman approached closer, Pam put Maximus in a sit/stay on a loose leash, and he didn't break, just sat there and looked at the maniacal approaching dog. Because of the approaching dog's threateninging demeanor (more barking, snarling, and growling), and the fact that the woman had no control over her dog letting him out 15 feet on a flexi leash, I stepped forward and told the woman to keep her dog away. This is no time for a canine social experiment that is bound to go one way: badly.
She jumped all over me, even while her dog continued his frenzy. "What's wrong with your dog, isn't he friendly?" she snapped. Barely had the woman gotten the question out of her mouth and my wife snapped right back "Not when an out of control dog approaches snarling, barking, and growling." "Well, my dog is only a puppy." That was her rationale!
It is hopeless to try and reason with people who are dumber than their dog but still feel they know it all. That woman has two problems, one that can be fixed (the dog, with training and in the hands of another owner) and one that can't (her). One day her poor dog will become another dog's lunch, and she will be the first one pointing the accusatory finger at the other dog and its owner. She stormed off in a huff, with her dog still dragging her and acting out.
Passers-by and bystanders were impressed with Maximus' calm demeanor through all of this exchange and with his obedience. Some had been watching us from a distance and now approached. "Isn't that a Doberman Pinscher?" "Yes, he is." "He is so well mannered and obedient. I thought they are supposed to be vicious and unfriendly." "The problem is seldom the dog and most often is the owner." We continued our training while others watched.
Chuck.......it sounds like you have the drill and the routine honed to a perfect level. What kind of exercises are making you so sore? If at any point in time you are feeling down and you need a bit of encouragement (kick in the hind quarters), we are experts at that and would be only too glad to acommodate you.
SJ........that is some great news on Granny, a major step forward! Unfortunately for you, party time is really over for you now! Goof off time in serious jeopardy!!!
KRM........ to the Pot!!!!!!!!
Don.........don't get too excited about the 8 pound weight loss since July. We can help you find it, and then some. It sounds like you have been a good boy, based on all of your great test results and Docs' comments. I like to tell my Docs "if it were not for knuckleheads like me you would be unemployed." If you ask for Varilux, Transition, HD lenses for your glasses I am sure you could push the price tag to over $700. With my luck my dog would find them laying on a table unattended when I just slipped out to the kitchen for a moment and would chew them up. Or I would lose them. Your family's "reconnect" post was heartwarming and gave me serious food for thought. I guess it is better to take the lead on these things rather than wait for others. Sometimes tomorrow never comes.
Brutus......my wife and I now use the flea and tick meds year round on our dogs since these critters like to "winter" in folks homes. With the ticks, Lyme is always lurking, something you and yours especially don't need. We use one that is both a repellant and an insecticide; but make sure if you have cats you avoid the ones with permethrin as it is toxic to cats. As for getting rid of the fleas someone else "loaned" to your dog, one treatment inside the house on the soft surfaces is seldom enough. And they re-populate quickly. Don't quit on the first pass or the family and the dog will be scratching past New Years. Read your comment about "some illness" in the family, and I hope it was nothing serious.
DougDG.....you always seem busier than a one-armed wall paper hanger, as Fife would say. Methinks you are expecting too much too soon. Re the flatscreen TV, though your purchase will be put off for a while, now is the time to bone up on what is out there and at what cost. The good news, a delay in your purchase will mean ultimately you will get more for the same $ or less. Pam and I researched and decided long before we bought our first F/S at Christmas last year. We set our price point, read all of the professional reviews and comparisons, then saw the sets in action side by side, opted for the Samsung LN46B630 LCD over a comparably priced/optioned Sony. We were looking for the 1080P highest definition, one with a comparitively higher contrast ratio, one with 120HZ for supressing motion blur (sports), one with a matte screen to supress glare, and one with multiple HDMI connectors for the best auxiliary video hookups. Skipped the more expensive sets with more features we will never use. Plasma works/looks better in poorly lit rooms, costs less for the same features, the longevity approaches the LCDs now, and the Plasmas have the far superior contrast ratios over anything out there. Plasmas may not be a long term player.
Dennis........I hope your little one is doing OK. It sounds like your anniversary activities were enjoyable and memorable. Congratulations again! The ball seems to be rolling for you and your better half on the adoption front too. We'll keep the prayers coming.
Fife......I haven't used Rotor Rooter in a while. Seriously, hope you are recovering a little every day.
LAZ.......see my comments above for Brutus and fleas/ticks. Minnie is outdoors quite a bit, sometimes off the beaten path. Tick territory. A pound of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Brent........sure am glad DadRoar is not in charge of fashion in the 88 household. Christina is just too cute.
MikeC.....I envy you. Your son and his fiancee come over for a visit and then they leave. My son recently moved back in.
8N/DougM.......as far as my wife is concerned, with those hosted events, I am the indentured gopher. And the aftermath? They sure can make a mess!!!!!!
RaySP.....was glad to hear your SIS is doing better. Prayers continue so you can pull together some travel arrangements that can fill the bill for you.
JoeyD and AF53..........how can a baseball team blow a 9 game lead for the wild card in under 4 weeks? That is exactly what the Red Sox have done. And you Yankees are not helping any.
Jon......what I have found with video is that everyone is excited about them soon after they are shot but then........nothing ever again. I think you have the reason why.....they are just too long, and no one wants to sit through them. I'll have to take your suggestion and start some serious editing myself. What video editing software do you use?
Rich........time is running out for those perfect Fall rides on the Harley. try one to Flemington. Follow Jon's good example and get out there before the snowflakes arrive if you can.
Spanky.........."it's for the children." Corey and Tyler NEED this. Clear the decks and get cracking on that layout!!!!!!!
Chief.........with your recent inundation from rainwater and the rising waters of Lake Eagles, I thought you would have taken some photos and shared them with us, showing you casting from the new rear deck you built, beer in hand, and smoke coming from the grill.
Roy........I blame all of the weather issues on El Roseyville. All of that hot air eminating in all directions from da South. Seems to be backfiring on His Honor, however. Re your neck, at least you are holding your own. , brother.
JimmyT........have not heard much from you about your layout alteration plans.
I'm also wondering what happened to Buckeye. I guess he doesn' love us anymore.
Gotta run. Later, gang.
fifedog Roy's 'boys won ugly last night.
...and that is putting it mildly for sure...worse...the Redshins lost really ugly...
Don and Doug - they say our rain is determined by hurricanes in the Gulf that come to the Texas coast of which we have had only one (sort of) this year. Need the low pressure center in the right place to swing moisture up to N Texas. However - I really think it is due to the Buckeye syndrome...
Jon - nice pics and fun trip. I dread editing video so I just avoid the whole issue.
On the plus side a really nice sunny day here today. 60's this AM and low 90's in the PM. Same for next several days and then to 80's for the weekend.
Neck is "no better/no worse" today.
Hope everyone has a great day today!
Regards, Roy
Aloha. Glad granny seems better, SJ! Glad you're taking care of yourselves, Chuck and Don B. Another rainy morning. After a rainy evening. Wish I could send some to you, Roy! I have to re-read Ambrose' Lewis and Clark story. Made me want to retrace their trail. Jon, is that a Galloping Goose? I'd like to get one of the MTH ones. Don't think Sir Hatt would mind.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Good morning
52 and kinda cloudy.
Granny get's her 2 week checkup this morning. Should get the staples out as the wound has healed well on the outside at least. No breakfast yet I'll think about something after the doctor visit.
S.J.
Hi Don --
We believe the layout will be in the December issue, not 100% sure but mostly sure. Roger Carp and Dennis Brennan were just a joy to work with when they were here, quality folks for sure!
I've been going through photo's and video's from our recent trip to Colorado, a bit overwhelming. I bought a GoPro digital movie camera this spring to mount on the side my motorcycle windshield and now I'm trying to wade through about 5 hours of movie clips and come up with a 4-5 minute video that would be interesting. The fun part was shooting the video, now the hard part will be editing---very time consuming.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Mornin' boys. In a fog here in the Mid-Atlantic region, and still walking kinda funny. Not funny ha-ha, funny stiff and sore. Stir crazy at home, but can't get anything done. Would like to work on layout.
Roy's 'boys won ugly last night.
Good morning everyone. Had morning bible study...good time and it is absolutely gorgeous outside. Wife is off at daughter's class doing the readings with the kids. I am still on call, so will be heading in shortly.
John, prayers were lifted last night and I will continue to do so.Joe, Good to hear about FBC Prattville having a Courageous showing. While the total number for opening weekend is what sets the stage for how long the movie will remain in theaters, I do hope that you are able to get to a theater soon. We are hoping that many lives will be changed.
On that note, if anyone would be interested, I encourage you to visit the web site:www.courageousthemovie.com which has a section to see which theaters near you will be showing it. From what I hear, there are 2000 theaters between the US and Canada that will be showing the movie, and more will follow. Opening night is September 30th.
Spanky, I posted on your thread about a small layout. My thought goes along the "Modular" style of layout. Regardless, hope you are able to get it together before too long and have trains running for your kids (and you!).
God Bless,Dennis

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy and cool 56 degrees. Going up to 70 today with a chance of rain.
Today is a busy day. I have some exercises to do and a few paperwork jobs to finish. Feeling pretty good. Slept good last night. Muscles are starting to loosen up and hurt less.
Cheerios is here on the Dining car, which just rolled in.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
Chuck
Hi GUYZ,
Very muggy here can't wait til weekend, suppose to get cooler? Did workout this morning and sweated quite good.
Stay frosty,
Good morning all,
It is rainy in SE Indiana. Lucas and fiancee came home for a quick visit last night. Work went well. Boys got a good draw for tourney, but the girls..... Regular fare on the dining car. TBIL after the game (if we have it), and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Busy weekend. Discovered that I was about 6 pages behind on the pot.
My wife worked the kid's craft table during the art festival downtown Saturday. This meant that I got drafted to help set up, take down and run errands. On the positive side of that, the kid's area was just around the corner from the LHS. Stopped in and visited for a while. Picked up the Polar Express reefer I had ordered too.
Lawn work, a window rebuild project and the F1 race took up Sunday.
Back to work today.
Good Evening.....
Prayers for John's co-workers, a whole other section of heroes that we take for granted.
Regarding the Ambrose book, what I find so interesting is all the historical facts that are factored in, not just another surface reaccount of a well told story. Looking forward to reading more of his works!
Had a really great day today! Had a couple of Dr appointments. First, the GP, was a follow up on blood work results. The Dr was impressed that all the scores were significantly improved, and had lost 8 lbs. since July visit. Wanted to know what I had done, told her I sent the wife back east for a month, and I worked around the house, and re-did the exercise room and made it usable, dusting off all the equip and even used it a couple of times. So she said to keep it up and continue to do what I was doing! So I will keep the stuff dusted everyday.
Then went to the eye Dr., for a diabetic retina exam., that was all positive, with no issues. Did end up with a minor change in the prescription. Dr was trying to convince me to get the "newest" technology, "High Def lenses", and the prices have come down considerably, "not much increase from conventional lenses". (Conventional lenses were $235, High Def lenses $470, AND they do not come with audio either.) So will be taking a pass on that. Spent most of the afternoon inside watching old westerns due to having eyes dilated.
Just a few minutes ago heard a splash in the pool, went out and checked it out, and a opossom had decided to take a dip. Help encourage him (it) out and it took off down the river channel.
Chris is off on another field trip this weekend, going out to the Marble Mountains between Barstow and Laughlin.
I don't understand the lack of rainfall this year in Texas. I thought there was more there than here, sometimes it seems Ol' Mother Nature is working against us.
Got the CTT today, looks like its been through a ringer, but it is intact. Jon when is your layout being featured.
Later All, Hope everyone continues to mend, and job hunts are beneficial.
Don
Evening all!
John - prayers for your co-workers
Still dry here and lakes drying up. No real rain in sight.
Buckeye - where have you been dood?
Dennis - glad the anniv went well!
Don B - Nothing Like It In the World is a great book. Ambrose was given unprecedented access to the UPs archives for research. You will also enjoy "Undaunted Courage" by Ambrose about Lewis and Clark journey.
Chuck - hang in there! It is going to get better.
Have a great evening all!
John - prayers for your friends and co-workers, that's tough man. Continued prayers for the other potters and for our friends and families. Bone tired and we were up last night with some illness in the house. Everything seems to be a lot better, but can't wait to hit the hay. TTFN!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening guys. Had a good, but busy day. Not much in the way of cases, but did have a lot of admin paper work. Just as I finished my work, get a call from my bride that they were down in X-ray dept. for my daughter's MRI. Went down and spent a bit of time with her getting that done. Kid is a trooper, she remained completely still for the 40 minutes it took. Tech thought she had fallen asleep, but she was just doing as told. Came home to find a message from agency that the initial paperwork that locks in the adoption of our son was sent to China. Still waiting on the referral of our daughter, but we are half way there.
John, I most certainly will pray for your co-workers. Dangerous work going into situations like that. I am glad they are at St. Barnabas. It is a good place for burns and is also regarded highly for their treatment of strokes. A group of us went to see a presentation from a Elizabeth firefighter who had gotten caught in a flashover a number of years ago. He had the Nomex suit on that kept him alive through the inferno, all except his gloves which had been wet from an earlier job, so he only wore his department issue ones. His hands and face were all that had any burns, and he went to St. B's which delivered great care. I will pray for God's guidance to those caring for them and also for His peace for them and their families through this difficult time.
Well, I have to get going as I have some homework for my bible study in the morning. Hope each of you has a blessed night.Dennis
I went to church and Sunday school yesterday morning and then I was busy the rest of the day finishing up some homework and paper assignments. Today was a busy day as well, but I managed to get ahead on my class work so now I can enjoy the MNF game. So far it is all field goals. The Yankees and Sox are both losing right now - I wonder if the Yankees are letting the Rays beat them.
Chuck - Please take it easy; we want your recovery to go extremely well.
Dennis - FBC-Prattville is having a men's event to watch Courageous. I would like to see it but my schedule will not allow it right now.
AF Ray - I'm glad you were able to enjoy the game. Now it's time to get ready for the playoffs.
Hudson John - I'll pray for those men and their families.
64 now, stopped raining about noon. Granny's upstairs attempting her first night in bed since her surgery. I think she will be ok. Banilla is ready for the thingy...S.J.
Doug, thank you! Love that oshkosh stuff. Great pictures.
