Afternoon all. Been working with Fred at the lease and pond. Mowing, weedeating and spraying Roundup. Everything looks good. Got stands ready as bow season comes in this Sat. [I think, I do not bow hunt]. Got things to do at house now and then mow my grass as we have had lots of rain.
Fife, congrats on the pin.
OH NO!!! Chuck gets back home and the snohio cannon might go back to work.
Later.

88 - Looks like you're gonna have the tough commute today.
Banks - Would be interesting to see what Rockville Bridge looks like right now. Mighty tough week to be near the Susquehanna, upstream or down.
Honestly, the Mid-Atlantic region hasn't seen water totals like this since AGNES back in '72. Which, coincidentally, forever changed the railroading scene in Maryland.
Hello all,
Fife, Congas on the pin.
Been an interesting week so far.
Helped son plant 3acres of alfalfa / orchard grass with barley as a cover crop over the weekend. Mrs & I did 18 quarts of tomato juice on Monday. Yesterday morning as I was heading out the door to take Mom to Pittsburgh for her first followup I heard water running in the basement. Not a good sound. Turned out to be a fountain about 6" high out of the floor drain in the family room & furnace room. I stuffed a rag in both and found the small pump we use to pump out holes. It got the 2" down to 1/2'' before I left almost an hour late for Pittsburgh. Who knows how deep it would have gotten if no one was home.
Mom got a good report from her Docs. We return Dec 13th for another check.
After I got home I surveyed the damage. The new hay field has some severe washes. About 1/4 of it will need redone.
The reason the floor drain backed up is a sloppy job by PennDot when they replaced a drain pipe across the road last summer. About 1/3 of the entrance is blocked and the water backed up in the ditch. My Pap built my house in 1957. Many much worse rains never resulted in a wet basement.

Lunch Time,
The rivers are cresting above flood stage and areas around the Passaic River are flooded again, some worse than before.
AF53, Sorry but I was not home last night and did not know if the UPS guy came or not. I will be home about 4:30 today. Instructors meeting at the Vo-Tech tonight.
Charlie, Wish your Bride a Happy Birthday.
Chuck, get stronger every day.
Have a Great Day,
John
D. Baker, that is bad news about the city raising the rent on the club building. I hope you have enough members to afford the increase. You guys have one of the best club layouts around. It would be tragic to lose it. What ever happened to giving seniors a break. I know at least some of you fit that mold. I remember when things like fishing license were free to seniors but not anymore. I have to hold my tongue here about politics but I am surely tempted.
It was so hot here yesterday, the air conditioner ran non stop from morning until night. I'm afraid to see my next light bill. We have over 100 temps predicted today also. Pray that we don't have any brush fires during this heat wave.
I watched the debate on TV from the Reagan Library last night. I have not been there yet but would like to and see that Boeing 707 Air Force One hanging in the building there. Our TCA division put on train displays at the Nixon Library twice so I have seen a lot of that one. We are not doing one this year as the management wants to do something different.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Rain Day #4 From Lake Taxachusetts,
Chuck........ continue for your recovery. I suggest you take a speed reading course before you tackle your Pot "reading" arrearage.
The past month in these here parts have left little respite for so many folks in my State. We had the multiple and massive power outages, devastating tornadoes, Irene, and now this. Somehow, my family and I have been spared throughout this spate of bad weather, but so many have not been as fortunate. Wifey said she encountered a flooded railroad viaduct blocking her intended path this AM, and she had to figure out an alternate route. City crews are out in front of my house checking out the street drains and running a street sweeper to make sure the some of the water keeps headed towards the......well, the Atlantic Ocean. The rest makes its way to the pond behind my house. The outflow structure for the pond seems to be losing the battle with the amount of inflow; so I suspect that too will overflow its banks before things are through. I am up high enough so it will be a non-issue. Bet some of my (lower lying) neighbors are in need of some valium right now.
Some streets and roads are now closed (again) from flooding, and folks are being encouraged to stay home if they can. The downpour my wife and I drove in last night to and from dog training let up only briefly while we were out and about. Even the folks travelling on on the interstate were (uncharacteristically) driving much slower and holding their lanes. Normally, it is 80 MPH and incessant lane changes, like on a NASCAR race's road course. If the State would at the least repaint the worn away lane lines on our highways, one wouldn't have to guess where one's lane (and the edge of the highway) ends and something else begins. Add in the dark of night, the torrential downpour, and the glare of headlights, and it all makes for some unsettling travel.
Wifey asked me how "we" are going to get the lawn (which is growing rapidly) cut. "We." Nice word. Think she meant "you."
LAZ..........did you and Minnie go for a swim this morning? Our dog hates the rain, and getting him to go out with me and take care of business is not quite as simple as it might at first seem. Technically, Maximus is my wife's dog. But in times like this she shares ownership.
Roy........I suppose the placement of soaker hoses on timers around your foundation don't work, not to mention the cost of water and watering bans. Wish I could send you some of our H2O.
SJ........does Granny's orthopedic pit stop mean you are the Chef for the next few weeks? Sounds to me you are going to get to know the pizza and Chinese delivery folks quite well. You will have all of our prayers for her full recovery.
Later, gang. Stay dry, get wet, or cool down.
Jack.

Fife.........that is because you look far too young and physically fit to have put in 25 years with the PD. The powers that be probably felt compelled to investigate things before they felt comfortable recognizing your service.
sir james I Good Morning 59, lite rain and very gloomy. Granny's driving me crazy, cleaning everything in site and some things that are not. By the time she has surgery Monday I'm gonna be on Valium. Good news about Chuck hope he has a swift recovery...S.J.

8ntruck Another nice September day today. Interesting day today at work. One of my projects has reached crisis mode - so now I have backing to work on it. Other 'help' too - what is taking so long, how come it isn't ready, what's the problem, etc, etc. Months ago, when I said this work needs to be done before we got into volume production, it was never deemed important enough to be supported - no immideate need. Oh well. Chalk it up to corporate entertainment factor and go on 'cause we learned some new things about how the tools work today. Go Tigers!

8N.........I love to pull out that 6-9 month old email with the challenge clearly stated, the options listed, the solution recommended, the benefits summarized, the posiible obstacles delineated, the required resources outlined, the costs estimated, the responsible parties identified, and the time-line required for victory. Then resend that same unaltered email to the same crew, including the higher ups. If "we" choose to stand still, that is exactly where we will find ourselves in a deeper panic down the road.
Congratulations, Fife. Thanks for serving!

Mornin' boys... Big rolled through middle of the night. Too much water, and with threat of power loss, stood guard over the sump pump for awhile. Spent yesterday on the Baltimore/Howard Co border, as Gwynns Falls simply got mean mid-day. Then Fifepup woke up late, entitling me to a 45 min ride to school in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Not much conversation along the way.
Oh well, lots of folks got it way worse.
BTW got my gold plated 25 year pin from PD (1 1/2 years later).
61, rainy, gloomy, chilly morning.
Off to the hospital soon to take care of granny's pre admittance things. I guess after that I will just try and get warm. Doug M. I am happy but surprised at what the Tigers have done this season. Who woulda thought..S.J.
Aloha. Another 'crisp' sunny Fall day here. Ran trains last night. Roy, hope you get some more rain! Brutus, I'm jealous of your Percy / Ivor find. Congratulations! SJ, prayers for granny's knee. I'm impressed with the Tigers this year. The Sox are fading fast. Joe, once you're over there, your Japanese will be better. Immersion works! Can you believe we have parrots here in Chicago too - an escaped pair allegedly begat whole tree-fulls - and they survive our winters too. Don, that's a great Tardis link. Uh oh, United's calling. That's never good. I'm not traveling for another two months but I'm sure the flight's changed.
Hi GUYZ,
Well our school, like most here, is closed due to flooding. In the past 48 hours we received 10+ inches of rain. The Susquahanna is slated to crest at 28.5 feet on Saturday. The all time high water mark of AGNES back in'72 was at 32.5 feet. If it doesn't stop raining today we might exceed that mark. Looks like my gun show in Harrisburg will be cancelled. Maybe no school again tomorrow.
DON B., we live about 1.5 miles from the river, on a hill so we are ok. Just a little trickle of water by the floor drain in basment.
Stay frosty,
laz57
Evening All, (I probably should adjust to the time you all are on here)
Morning Everyone,
Had a good day, nothing much happened. Did a little work on a layout, and went to club meeting. Talked with John F., feel for you guys in the NE, last thing needed is more rain. John was fighting water getting in the basement. Just way too much water in too short of a time. Sure wish Roy's area could get some benefit of it!!
Saw Roy's picture in the other magazine that arrived today, it was hard to pick him out, not a very big picture, but a very distinguished crowd he hangs with.
The LA City Council and Dept of Parks and Rec., have decided to raise the rent on the facility. (Fort McArthur in San Pedro, belonged to the Army and city has the property for $1 per year rental. The clubs rent went up over 1000%, so going to be a substantial increase in dues coming I'm sure. Obviously the city is doing everything to try and come up with money, to pay off all the big benefits and retirement programs. Can't believe how much public services are being cut. I'm sure its the same everywhere but doesn't make it right. How quick the elected officials here forget who they are supposed to work for.
As previously reported it been really hot here, we actually were over 100 today, very rare, but more tomorrow. Figures it has to happen the day school goes back, at least now they are all air conditioned.
I don't know what it is about the parrots but we have them too! Have the same "rumors" here that they are escaped. I know they have a long life span, but must be the 2nd or 3rd generation.
Sure hope John, Laz, and the other northeasterns can keep dry and dont suffer much damage. Hope everyone has a great day!
Oh Yeah, all you Tardis guys, check this out.....

Good evening all,
That is great news about Chuck. As previously stated, we will pray for his continued recovery.
Today was my first full day of my Southern invasion. The first full day of school was fine and it should be an interesting six weeks. As I was driving to the base yesterday I noticed some nice CSX yards. The base also has tracks running through it and I can hear the horn every now and then. I'm hoping to have some time on the weekends to check them out.
Jack - My Japanese has not progressed at all. The wife and kids have daily Japanese lessons as part of our home school curriculum.
Good night,
Joe
Howdy guys - well, back to work today. I had some training I could take today, so it was pretty light duty, but interesting. Tomorrow, I'll have to find some cases to work on, as I am personally all out. Train stuff today was checking out a new flyer from Walthers - not much O gauge in the flyer though. Happy B-Day to Charlie's wife! TARDIS is ready, so let's get moving :)
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Ok. Time to leave work, very disappionted HudsonJohn didn't let me know about the UPS Man!
SJ - Your Tigers can almost coast from here on out!

Good Evening
59 now and still light rain.
Feels cold and damp, temp changed too fast. I just stayed in today, watched the Tigers/Indians game. Tigers won. Banilla is ready for the Tardis...S.J.
Good evening everyone. Been busy here as I am on call and we have had a number of things going on. Today was daughter's birthday, so that was a big event. She started by waking my wife up at 0300 to ask "Mommy, is it my birthday yet?" Then, we got them up at normal time and shuffled them off to school. Stopped by a local doughnut factory and brought it an assortment of doughnuts (3 dozen) for her class and also for the office staff/teacher. Bride and I went out for brunch as I had not had anything to eat in almost 24 hours. Long day at work, followed by birthday dinner and finally time to relax.
Last night, I got the absolute best news...Chuck, we are so happy for the recovery...Now do what they tell you and get back to full strength so we can start picking on you again! I am thankful for such an answered prayer. When you get up to it, you had better take Miss Paula out for something a bit more special than Cheerios!
Well, it is time for bed. Hope everyone has a great night. I will continue to lift Chuck's recovery in prayer and also for some others.God Bless,Dennis

Chuck we are looking forward to hearing from you. Glad your doing better.
Well it was day 7 of the school year and we had our first early dismissal. WOO HOO!!! We got about 3 inches of rain this morning from 6-9AM. Every creek up here is flooding its banks. Wish we can send it to ROY. By tomorrow morning they have us to get 10+ inches total for this guy named LEE from DA SOUTH. Sneak attack and he is just hanging out here in PA. DA!
CHUCK get that SNOW CANON polished up. We might have to send early snow down south?
