ROY,

I use the Schluter Ditra system for my tile in my addition and kitchen.  It is expensive but will prevent your tiles from popping.  I have had this down for a year and no popped tiles, problem is you have to have it installed before you put your tiles down.  Anyway if you do decide to replace your floor here is a link to this system.

Anj.

Is it sump or gearbox oil?

As I sit here harking to the gentle note of the emergency services rushing to clear up the wreckage of yet another motorway pile up, it is mellowed by a passing rumblestorm.

Morning All !

Happy Labor Day to all, hope everyone has a great day!

Looking forward to a complete day off, possibly get involved in a couple of minor chores.  InLaws coming over for a BBQ early this PM.  Chris and FIL going to go to Angel game this evening.  It was Chris' idea to do something with Grandpa.  So letting them have some "special" time together.  Don't mean to keep bragging on him, but he just came downstairs dressed, and with backpack.  Asked where he was going and said he wanted to go to school and do some work in the Lab.  The students in his department have keys to the Labs and certain classrooms and are welcome to come in and work at their leisure.  (I think the "key responsibility" definitely has contributed to motivation.)

Last night noticed that the 30' foot flagpole in the backyard seemed peculiar, checked it out and found the bottom of it has rusted and cracked.  So pulled it out and now have another project.  Originally, dug proabbly a good 3 to 4 foot hole, filled a 5 gallon bucket with cement and 3' diam pipe about 4 1/2 foot.  Then flag pole inserted in 3" pipe.  Of course the flag pole broke off about 8" from the top of the pipe, now have to figure out how to get the rest of the flagpole out of the bottom pipe.  It sure is jammed in don't remember how.

We actually had some rain yesterday pm and this morning!  Might end up in train room today installing some traffic lights.

BTW, Wifes foot is pretty much better now, she ended up in a boot for about 6 weeks, and seems to be fine. :)

SPMAN - Still would like to see about some modifications to make things easier, we need to talk about that.

Have any of you guys browsed DIY forums or website?  Has a lot of information information for Do-It_ Yourselfers,  Found it quite interesting.

Need to go get the patio cleaned up,   Take care !!!

Morning all!

Spent a good part of the day yesterday at the local "first Monday trade days" in Canton TX. The wind was blowing as the front was coming through and kept temps down to 95. This morning it was high 60's and currently it is 75 and a high today of 85. 80's for the rest of the week. We have the TS Lee to thank. That nice low pressure zone dragged the cool air down. The bad news is it is very dry here. We are 9 inches shy on rain. House is moving and we now have two cracked tiles in the kitchen (retiled in 2008). Not good. Cannot poor enough water on the foundation to keep the ground saturated and keep it from moving/subsiding and we have water use restrictions to boot.

Fife - the Baltimore race was a good one although I do not like street races in general - no passing and all strategy is pit stops and avoiding wrecks. That is not really racing.

Prayers for Chuck, Char, and those in need.

Have a great Labor Day all!

Regards, Roy

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Flash flood watch in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Figures, a storm named LEE would be invading the north Dots - Sign  At least we got to go sailing yesterday.  Slow on a wing-to-wing run, yet jack-rabbit fast on a close reach tack...go figure.  Ended up at my favorite Pirate lair for eat-em-ups. Dinner

Oldest princess attended Grand Prix race (her 1st of any kind) and loved it.  NASCAR race was postponed.  Ironed my monkey suit for the upcoming week, then shot a few games of 8-ball in the man cave.

Happy Labor Day to all of you expecting mothers.  I shall be cooking on the grill between the raindrops.

Prayers for Chuck and for us all and our intentions.

Gnite/morning guys.  Well, today turned into an adventure!  Went over to sister's for lunch and the plans changed to going downtown to Pappy's BBQ, which just won some kind of national award.  My sis and I go there for lunch about once a month or so - it's great.  We always go just before they open, so there isn't much line.  I guess the word was out.  There were 10 of us all together and we stood in line for about 2 hours to get our food ordered - geez!  I told one guy - Come to Pappy's for lunch and you'll stay for supper!  That got a big laugh.  Finally went to my folks' house and had brownies and banilla, and got home really late.  I missed the TARDIS, but I"m sure Mike can use the wayback circuit and come get me now!  TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

I had a nice 6-mile run this morning.  A cold front came through so it was a very nice 72 degrees when I went for the run.  The FIL and I detailed the interior of the van since we will be selling it soon.  He will take care of the outside after my wife takes me to the airport on Tuesday.  The wife, 1 y/o son, and I had dinner at the Outback and then we did some shopping.  Afterwards, my wife made an apple cobbler – delicious.  The older kids are watching Star Wars now before turning in for the night.  The Yankees won today and the Sox lost – it was a great day. Big Smile

Dennis – I received your message, thanks.  I sent you a reply as well.

AF Ray, Brutus, Laz, dougdagrump, John Bakeer, Rich, Jim SP – I have eaten donuts all over this country and in many others (although they might not be called donuts across the pond), and Krispy Kreme makes the best ones by far.  I don’t own their stock in any of my mutual funds or my Roth IRA so I don’t worry about the SEC violations; I just enjoy those fantastic donuts.  Jim SP said it best: “When you get them hot from the fryer, they melt in your mouth!  Delicious!!!!!

Jack – These profession military education courses can be difficult, but the only people I ever saw not graduate are people who cheat or misbehave during the course.  I am very certain I will not be doing either one of those. Angel

I hope my trains are doing well on their voyage Snail to Japan.

Chuck is still in my prayers.

Good night,

Joe

Good evening all,

It was rainy all day in SE Indiana.  Daughter called and said she and husband not feeling well.  With the weather iffy as well, did not go to Bloomington.  Worked on Standard gauge stuff at home.  Oiled and lubed MTH 384E and associated cars.  Ran them for a while.  Oiled and lubed the Lionel Classics 384E I got this spring.  Had not run it since I purchased it.  E-unit was a little finicky at first, but smoothed out.  Got the companion cars out as well (including the new acquisitions) and ran those as well.  E-unit does not buzz, and it does not pull as many cars as the MTH version.  It only has a whistle and headlight, but any standard gauge is good.  Listened to Indy car on the net.  Vitor got a ninth for AJ.  Swiss Miss lead a lap, but got caught out on fuel strategy for 12th.  Princess managed a 6th by avoiding trouble, which unfortunately had snagged Vitor.  AJ's team still in top in road course points and overall top ten is still in range.Overall, nice quiet day.  Perhaps one I needed.  Prayers for all who need them.  I had cinnamon rolls on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive again.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

A little cloudy up here on the mountain but not much rain today. Yesterday it rained like a cow peeing on a flat rock. Doing a little preparation for replacing the roof seals in a few weeks. Cutting off and terminating some of the old heat trace cable.

Just walked up to the LBT to see if there was any info on a friend up there. He took a fall from the top of a steep stairway yesterday and had to be airlifted back to Tucson. Guess he is stable, but they are still deciding if they will need to do surgery.

Just got word that I am now the proud owner of a motorcycle. Was just dropped off today. As with all my acquisitions it needs some work but was too good a deal to refuse.

Thoughts and prayers for Chuck and others.

Good evening everyone.  Been a good day.  Had plenty of rain from TS Lee....we need it!  Too many wells going dry down here.  Have some reservations to make as we need to head to HotLanta the end of the month for some meeting for the adoption.  While we are there, bride wants to see "Wicked" at the Fox Theater.  It is also our anniversary, so we will make the best of it.

Last night and today, they have been showing the movies our church have made, I guess as a lead up to the release of this latest feature.  What is neat is how much the kids have been wanting to see them.  I would much rather have them see those than most of what else is on TV.  I am on call this coming week, so will head in tomorrow to do rounds...hoping it is quiet.  On Tuesday, we have Josh McDowell speaking at the church and I am on camera.  He will be speaking on parenting....should be a large crowd as it is open to the general public.  We also have a "Refresh" conference coming up the 18th to 21st.  Going to be busy over the next few weeks.

Doug, hope things go well for you to get your meds all figured out.  I know it can take awhile to get everything under control.

Prayers to be lifted for Char, Chuck and Paula.
God Bless,
Dennis

AFternoon all

Been playing with the kids playing with play doh.  Going to go and cut some grass.  I'm enjoying a Sunday afternoon at home for a change.  Classes for those entering the Church start next week and the contractor is to start the bedroom addition this week, so you might say this is the calm before the storm.  Might be a good afternoon to lay track and play on the floor.

We have one of the original Crespie Cream donut shops in Portsmouth.  When you get them hot from the fryer, they melt in your mouth!  Delicious!!!!!

Continued prayers for Chuck and Paula.

May God bless

John B. - They are covered in liquified sugar.  Boiled in oil....quite tasty, but oh the sugar rush.

Angel for Chuck and Paula

Calm day here at Exit 8, had a rescue assignment yesterday afternoon, 2 young females unbelted in a Scion SUV.  Young man driving.  Flipped said vehicle, 3 other vehicles involved.  I helped EMS with the 2 females.  They should be ok.

Contractors in the Firehouse, doing rehab.  I'm about wore out from the week.  More work during the week I think.

Dennis - Today FEMA granted the whole state a disaster declaration....'bout time.

Just saw My Idiot Brother with the Princess...it was amusing and funny.

Looks like rain later, time to break out the bike for a quick ride

Yankees are winning 9-3....

That's all for now...

D. Baker, welcome back to the pot.  Missed your input while you were gone.  Sounds like a fun gig at Knotts.  Hope you are getting paid for being a traffic cop.  I did that a couple of times at the old location of Cal Stewart in Pasadena.  I was really tired after a day doing that.

Yesterday I spent about an hour in my train room and I think I overdid it.  My back was complaining for the rest of the day.  I feel some better today but I have to take it easy.

Got to get ready for church now.  Have a good labor day all

Mornin' All.

Prayers continue for Chuck & Paula.

Last sunday was first planned med adjustment and it went great. Was able to make it thru the entire day at the museum friday. Thumbs Up However when we got home I crashed on the couch for several hours. Second adjustment starts today, hope it goes as well as the first.

Krispy Kreme, if memory serves correctly, was busted by the SEC for "some" bookkeeping irregularities. They were sprouting up out here like dandelions then they just disappeared. I only know of one still open in Sandy Eggo, not sure if it is company owned or franchised. Think it does both retail and wholesale to other types of outlets.

Later all.

SJ,

Hold that snow until at least Nov.  Better yet, just keep it.Smile

Don,

           Welcome

Haven't had a chance to post since starting shifts.  This week I had to get up at 3:45am to be in a meeting for 5:30, then not getting home until around 6:30pm.  I am at a crossroads about the whole thing.

I was told that I'd be working on printers and computers, but I find myself on ladders on the roof of the plant and working on float switches in a sewage pit.Ick!  Also had to fish a co-worker's dropped screwdriver from said pit.  I'd say more about how I feel about being a salary employee in a union run plant, but I'll follow SJ's example and Zip it!

I need to get back to the layout.  Would probably take the edge off.

Good Evening!

Long time no post, (sorry about that!)

Most important concern is of course Chuck, sure hope things are OK for him.  Although I am concerned.  I know Buckeye has been doing everything he can do, but situation seems a little peculiar.  So hopefully some good news maybe coming soon, I hope so.

I have noticed lots of other things have occurred as well.  Big Congrats to Brent and Susie Q !

Glad to see everyone survived the earthquakes, storms, hurricanes and all the other stuff that has been going on.  Hopefully the hurricane season will end soon, and the fire season will be lite or moderate.

On our front.....

- Havn't made any progress on the outside G-Scale train track yet, just a lot of other "stuff" gotten in the way.

- Wife, broke her foot, just before she took her parents back to Wis for a family reunion.  She was gone for 3 weeks.  Chris flew back to join them for a week.  Fortunately they had a great time, and ALL got home safely.  So all is well.  While they were gone I primarily worked on a number of different projects around the house.

- Chris transferred to Cal State Fullerton as a Junior in the Geology Dept.  And his entire world has changed!  He has joined the national professional organization, attended a couple of meetings and becoming very involved with them.  At school he is so excited regarding the classes, he ends up spending extra time in the various labs.  Between the two activities.he has weekend field trips scheduled every weekend (except 2) from now through end of October.  He resigned from his job, just prior to the trip to Wis., which was fine.  As we had previously discussed his focus need to be on his classes this semester.  So what happens.... the university (in particular the school of Science and Math), have various positions available to students.  And they schedule the work hours around the students classes.  He ended up with an administrative assistant position in the Physics department upon the recommendation of the Geology dept chairman.  Will be working 10 hrs a week.  What is good is that he has a couple of days with 5 hr breaks between classes, so it will work out well.

- As for me, just regular routine stiff.  I start Jury Duty this next week.  The way it is handled here, is I'm on "call" for 7 days.  I need to call in the prior day, and they tell me whether I need to report to the court house or not.  So as of now I have to go in on Tuesday.  So that will be the activity this week.  Then Friday, Chris is going on the first field trip.  However, he doesn't get out of class until 4, and most everyone else is leaving at noon.  His instructor doesn't want him to miss class, and its about 350 miles away.  So I am going to drive up to the area (Mammouth Lake), and then continue on to Reno and visit my brother.  Chris will come home with all the others and I will come back probably Monday.  Think I will take the El Camino its been a long time since its been on the road.

Then when I get back, I start a new job!  Its most likely temporary, but what the heck.  Knotts Berry Farm has a huge event here every year, called the Haunted Haunt.  They take the entire amusement park and redecorate it all for Halloween.  It is opened around 4 everyday and closes about 1, for 6 weeks prior to Halloween.  I will be working the parking lots directing traffic.  (Just like running trains only a lot of switching going on.)  Who knows may end up with some extra train $$$ or just ending up paying more bills.

- The guys at the train club are really doing well with the Ross Turntable.  Its taken a couple of years but its working rather well.

Don't want to take up more time, so stay well everyone!!

And prayers out for Chuck !!!

Prayers for Chuck and for us all and our intentions.

Ray - Personally, I prefer Dunkin Donuts, but they mostly disappeared here before Krispy Kreme showed up.  Now they have been making a come back and I have heard that Krispy is in a bad way financially?

Today I slept late, killed zombies, checked out my new Lionel Halloween Cars (KUDDOS BIG L FOR GETTING THESE OUT IN TIME FOR SHOPPERS!!!), and did some work on the front of the house.  Char wants the bushes I killed myself planting 12 years ago to be gone now (gasp!), so I took out one big section of them and bagged them up today.  This is the section where I needed to get at the drain, too.  I got out the pressure washer, but then it started to drizzle rain, so I put it away and called it a day.  Some more zombies, a big roast beef sandwich for me and a small one for Chewy, and then chatted with SJ, John, and RT for a while.  Apparently, I let a "hoppy bug" into the house, and Chewy is stalking it under and around the furniture Smile  I hope she gets it, before Char gets home again!

Last night I watched Dylan Dog (B+) and The Hills have Eyes (A).  Tonight I have watched Poltergiest, and I'm going to watch another movie before I hit the hay - maybe a comedy?

TTFN - TARDIS is ready and we have leftovers plus John brought another big tub of Banilla Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
