Good Mornin' Ya'll From Crystal Clear Taxachusetts,
I was able to tackle half of the lawn yesterday since it was finally dry enough to cut, albeit it was a bit tall. I was out there mowing about two hours. The part I mowed was the rear, and it appears with the fertilizer and all of the rain we have gotten that I will get through another season in the turf war.......dog versus grass. Not too many bare spots worn to the nub by Maximus. Will reach the low 80s today but I noticed we had an overnight low of 48 within the past few nights, 53 last night. Will someone please provide me with a rational explanation why my son was running his bedroom A/C all night last night?
Chuck........that is great news. I know you may be tired of hearing it, but have patience with the PT, buddy. You have been on quite the ride the past four weeks. Good things will come with time and work. I just hope you don't get headaches from eye strain in the next two weeks. Pass on our best to Paula. Wish we all could be there with you. Rich......sorry to hear about the passing of your best friend's Mom. Those can be some emotionally trying services, and not just for the family. I am certain your friend and the family were comforted by your appearance with the Princess. You have to admit, the upheaval you have lived through during the past year has plunked you down in a very good place; and a lot is going so well right now for you. These have been tough times, but you made things happen.

SP Ray.......sorry to hear your back is still not cooperating. you find some relief soon. What does your Doc suggest?
Roy.....I was glad to hear your pup's cyst and tumor were nothing to be overly concerned about. We had the same issue with our Border Collie.Husky mutt, Ashley, when she was about 12. We were told the benign fatty tumors our dog had are common occurences in most older dogs and were of little concern. The vet recommended leaving them alone unless they were in a spot that makes the dog uncomfortable. Wife wanted them removed anyway. Of course, she got more over time. Ashley was my son's 10th birthday present, and she was a great dog. We had her for nearly 16 years despite the tumors and a torn anterior cruciate ligament we had repaired when she was 10. Ya can't beat a mutt!!!!!!
RT........I once ate part of what I thought was a packet of beef jerky. Didn't care much for the taste. My wife saw the open packet sitting on the kitchen counter and started lecturing me about giving the dog too many dog treats. I didn't tell her I ate them. Figured she didn't need any more ammo to use on me Shoulda read the label.
RaySP.........glad to hear you are enjoying coaching the little guys. With all that they see on TV, it is difficult to keep them focused on the basics. It is also great to hear you will have the addition under roof well before the SNOHIO flies and before Chuck's sometimes errant aim with the snow cannon dumps on you.
Brent........glad to hear Christina's first day at daycare went well. And I hope she did get up in the middle of the night. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
Chief........I enjoyed the pictures and the history behind your dad's farm bell. You do excellent work!!! And it is a special piece that will be handed down to keep tradition and family history alive and well. re the flossing, I thought REBS only have a tooth or two to floss.
JoeyD.......smart man, getting your homework done so you could goof off and watch the football game between the Dolphins and the Patriots. I am depending on you and AF Ray to boost my baseball spirits. The Red Sox had an abundance of solid starting pitchers to start the season and now are missing their 1-2-3 starters. Except for the schedule, it doesn't look good here on out to the playoffs.

DougM........the natural grass at Soldier Field was looking a bit ragged during the game Sunday. I can't imagine what it will look like by Halloween.

Boy did I make a big mistake last night, I made a hungry man dinner with chicken strips ate the strips, corn, mash potatoes and then there was what looked like pudding man it was kinda thick but loose and had a Bourbon taste so I went hmmm bourbon pudding never heard of it but its good after eating that i looked at the box that was my dipping sauce for the chicken and yes it did taste like bourbon oh well will know next time I think I'll just throw it away next time and eat my strips my way. wasn't that thrilled with the sauce lol.

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s. Weather permitting, will play soccer under the lights at 8 PM tonight. Yesterday started off badly, but work went well and got a lot done at home last night. As AJ would say, "All in all, it was a good day." Bacon and biscuits are headed to "Points East" on the dining car this AM along with prayers for continued recovery. TBIL after the game and have the banilla ready. I hope everyone has a good day. Chief, good story about the bell, and good recap on the pot. I can testify as to how "lively" this forum before the Pot came along,

We had our first class Physical Training session this morning. It was an easy day to make sure everyone understood the program. My smaller running had an easy 2-mile run. Many of the classes we had today were slow and boring; mostly lectures. I prefer the classes we have when everyone interacts. The Dolphins lost to the Pats which is no surprise. The Raiders-Broncos game is entertaining. The Yankees won again tonight.
SJ - I'm glad Granny's procedure went well. I hope she recovers well and soon so you don't burn the house down.
Brutus - That is fantastic news about Char's transplant. I'll pray this process continues to go well.
Jack - I needed to get ahead on the reading so I could watch the football games.
Rich - I'm sorry about your friend's loss. I'll pray for his comfort.

Jack - matched the record (69 days) today - 103 - might hit 105 tomorrow and 100 Wed and then 90 on Thurs. Also sorry about your friends dog. Our 12 yr old dog (lab/retriever mutt) is getting pretty long in the tooth and she recently had a benign tumor and a large cyst removed.

Char had a doc appointment today and got results on her transplant. Her bonemarrow is 100 percent transplant and engrafted, so that's great news. The fiber stuff was at 4+ on a scale of 0 to 4? Right now it is 2+/4. He said she will catch every little bug that comes home or goes to work. She needs to get a flu shot and so does all the family. They also want to redo all immunizations, but can't do that until she is off some of the meds, so that will be a while. He'll see her every 3 weeks again now.
TARDIS is ready, so let's get a move on guys!

Best friend's Mom past Friday, had to run to get the Princess then the opposite way to the viewing tonight then run her back for classes...viewing was 2-6 and make it difficult but not impossible. Had White Castle for dinner on the fly. Princess was happy.....

Chief, thanks for the photos of the bell. That was a wonderful story about the old days in the South. You must be proud of your family heritage. It's a fortunate thing to have something that goes that far back. According to our family history, there was a big house at some point but the details have been hard to find. I imagine a lot of things were lost in the war between the states.

A little Southern history for you Yanks before I walk out the door.
The Eagles Farm Bell was mounted on a wooden tower behind the “big” house. Was rung in the mornings to start work, again at 11:30 for dinner [now called lunch] and 1:00 PM to go back to work. Again in the evenings to stop work and come to supper. Was rung 5 days a week. Several farms in the area had them. Each had its own sound. If rung any other times than the above, it was an emergency calling for help. When I was little, I was allowed to pull and pull on the rope until I could ring it at the above times. I thought I was big. Daddy had it mounted on steel pipe and concreted it in near his drive in Edgecombe. When Mom died and the house was given away, I had Gerald [the guy renting the farm] dig it up with his backhoe. Concrete was so large, we had to cut the pipe off at the concrete level to bring it here to Rolesville. Been in my back yard since Feb. Finally got a big section of pipe that was larger than the original. Concreted it in the ground and slid the old pipe down inside. Painted it with a fresh coat of Rustoleum. It is loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A weather vane goes on top but I have to “recondition” it and paint it. See below.

When it started, Big Boy [Elliot] and Spankybird [Tom P] were about the only ones on the fourm. Forum might go days with nothing posted. I started the Coffee Pot as a daily thread. Elliot suggested that we make it a continous thread. So, April 1, 2004 I was in Savanah GA at Bass Pro Shops for an event. From the Holiday Inn Express, I started the continous Coffee Pot thread. It was the longest running thread in the history of Kalmbach with the most posts. Suddenly Kalmbach management [not CTT] said we were taking up too much server space. That is when we went to this type of Coffee Pot. From the original posters, immediately Buckeye came on and then others followed. Always been more Yanks than Rebs but we still put up a fight.

DENNIS started to post on Coffee pot back in 04 when the pot first originated. JIM DUDA, BUCKEYE, CHIEF, SPANKBIRD, PIGSEYE and BIGBOY were the first GUYZ to be on back then. Since then lots have come and went like a revolving door. But since that time I and others have met either in YORK or other places and have become close friends. I don't know what the percentages are, but like to hear peoples different prospectives.

Morning. Dentist was easy. Been flossing good. Oil and filter for 4Runner to do. Should not take too much time. Buddy from lake came by and we went to BoJ's. Took back bed frame and a bench so will drive 4Runner up. He says I will have to double mow as grass has jumped up. They actually had rain this AM before light. Friday was a somber day. A close friend of ours had to put her dog down, and I went with her to help in any way I could. This pup was a rescued Doberman with a bite history......due in no small part to his original owners. Our friend adopted Mr. P and trained him into one of the finest ambassadors for the breed one could find.
She titled her pup in competitive obedience and, when a leg injury ended his competition career, she switched gears and got him certified in therapy work. This past June the American Kennel Club bestowed upon him the ThD title. To achieve AKC’s Therapy Dog or “ThD” title a dog must be "certified or registered with an AKC-recognized therapy dog organization, perform a minimum of 50 documented visits and be an AKC Dog through AKC registration." Yes, although this dog had some shaky beginnings through absolutely no fault of his own, he spent the back years of his life performing weekly visits to a long term care/rehabilitation hospital and helping others. He will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to meet him, and a dog like this can never be replaced.
Took the Wifey out yesterday to pick up some Mums. For you Southerners out there, these are Fall annuals that can bloom into November up this way in snow country, as long as you cover them at night and protect them from a hard frost. We got home and planted them, and I prepared Alfredo chicken for dinner. So the Wifey is happy.....I think.
The news coverage of the 911 events of this past week and weekend left me feeling as I did 10 years ago... sad, angry, and frustrated. My kids and grandkids came over for dinner Saturday night and I remained quiet and reflective. It was encouraging to hear their exchanges and perspectives without my 2 cents. At the very least, they have a clear understanding of events leading up to that terrible day, the reasons behind it, and the price that has to be paid for our freedoms, in human terms.

Roy....... I certainly hope that things with your neck settle down. That sounds pretty debilitating, made worse by the Cowboys last minute loss to the Jets. At this point I hope you set a new record for 100+ degree days in a Summer. At this point it will be worth the sweat.
Brent......your post about dropping Christina off at daycare brought a smile to my face. I can recall many moons ago when we dropped our son off for his first day of daycare. There were a lot of tears shed by my wife and by my son. When the Wifey went to pick him up later in the day she was doubly crushed. He was too busy playing to stop what he was doing to at least greet her, and he cried all the way out the door.
Charlie.....thanks for the layout pictures and the one of SJ. We needed that one to remind us what he looked like before the forced diet he is about to embark upon. Reminds me of childhood days when we used to set up a drag strip in the basement of a buddy's house and drag race the trains. We were so careful to separate the tracks and set up all manner of pillows to stop the trains at the end of the runs to avoid scatching them. Am I the only one here that did that?
DougM........the image of you in charge of home schooling your son while the Wifey is away is horrifying. Pizza 101. Advanced Placement Procrastination. Basic Beer Can Recycling.... DA BEARS looked good yesterday taking it to the Falcons. But the Soldier Field natural grass looks like it needs some serious R&R. At least the better Cutler showed up yesterday.
MikeC........you must be the only one we know who sweeps the house. We all have graduated to vacuum cleaners. Like you, I got stuck watching a chick flick with my wife yesterday, had to keep flippng channels during the commercials to keep up with football scores.
LAZ........those wascally wabbits are quick and can turn on a dime. We have about a half dozen who hang out in our yard even though they know Maximus has free reign until he reaches the property border where we have an E-fence. One of these days one of them will zig when they should have zagged, Minnie will catch it, and you will have rabbit for dinner. Best if you and I get out in front of this one and ask the Chief for one of his REB road kill recipes.
HudsonJohn......I got a chuckle out of your comment about your lab/pointer mix Mack and his gentle treatment of rabbits. Non-dog people think that genes and natural instinct (prey drive, protection, etc.) cannot be mitigated with the pup's upbringing, but your Mack shows that it can. We train our Doberman Maximus around our trainers cats just for that reason; and we train right alongside the tiniest of dogs. Although he is a protection breed), Maximus at the age of two has already met and greeted (up close and personal) more children at humane society charity events at our trainer's booths than arguably the next ten dogs combined will ever meet in their entire lifetime. Plus, he has been raised with my grandchildren, under very close supervision and control from day 1. All that being said, no dog, from the largest to the smallest, should ever be left unsupervised around children, not for a moment. Children can and will do stupid things to and around a dog. The same can be said for far too many adults.
Sub Bob............if I walked all the way down your mountain I would need to hitch a ride back up to the top. Maybe you should start a cog railroad. The views must be stunning.

Chief.........in a way you can understand the parents of that wayward "adult kid." They know full well what has been and is going on, yet they want to bury their heads in the sand. They probably believe that if they cover for him or stand behind him one more time that the light switch will go off in his head and a miraculous change will occur in him. Change will occur, for the worse. One day the consequences for his actions will slam him in the face.
