A nice day here around 70+. Never did find the chief. we tried. To bad he didn't tell us he was coming as we might have made plans for supper but we ended up at separate restaurants. We will see him for the photo shoot at 1pm Tomorrow. I have made no big buys just a couple of small price items. Tomorrows another day though. Grab some banilla and come on by with the thingy....S.J.

Good evening all,
I had a nice day doing not much of anything. I shipped the older two kids off to school then hung out with the baby while the wife met a friend for coffee. I finally hung up the one display shelf I built. It is nothing special, but it holds a steam loco and tender, a passenger car, and four pieces of rolling stock. Now the layout looks cleaner. I also wired up a Lionel Animated Freight Platform I've had for some time just sitting there on the layout. It is the one with the three guys who move about the platform. I wish there was a way to have its light on separately from activating the guys, but either way it is a fun piece. After dinner I had more train running fun.
It sounds as if the boys are having fun at York. I hope you all post photos of your steals (recent purchases. However, it doesn’t surprise me that a Reb would rob from a Yankee.
Doug - I hope your wife had a nice birthday.

Sunny and 70's here today.
Started the morning before the sun was up getting my wife to the out patient facility. They knocked her out and worked the scar tissue out of her knee. She now has about 30 degrees more of free movement, probably 15 or 20 degrees on top of that with some 'help'. Home about noon with a new toy - a Flex-Mate K500 knee flexing machine. It ran for a while then promptly lost its mind. Thinks it is at 90 degrees bend when it is really about 10 degrees. There is a position sensing pot on the knee joint. It probably has a loose wire or a slipping shaft. I could probably get it running again, but being a medical device that is on loan, I think I'll leave it alone. A call to the doctor's office tomorrow and probably a 70 mile drive each way to get a replacement machine.
Anyhow - the proceedure today was a big help, now all we've got to do is the therapy to maintain it.
The group of 5 boxcars I got on e-bay arrived today. The Frisco and Shreaded Wheat cars have plastic trucks with one operating coupler, putting these as mid 60's cars. The Baby Ruth car has bar end trucks with tab type instead of thumb tack couplers putting this as an early 50's car. The operating milk car and refirgerator cars are in really rough shape, but will clean up and make a couple of good runners.
Scored a 6418 16 wheel flat car on e-bay last night. Original girder load, original box. Looking forward to receiving that one.
Mowed the lawn and applied some weed killer to the creeping charlie in the yard this afternoon. Now watching a line of thunder storms that will be here shortly. The weed killer was supposed to be rain safe in an hour. We'll see.

8NT - glad to hear about the procedure and hope that machine (replacement) helps. My dad has one of those right now and it's been helping him a lot. Mom and sister went to Des Moines to visit the new baby and mama, so I need to check on dad tomorrow.

Nice chat with RT tonight late. Sorry I missed SJ, I was taking a shower after doing some work around the house for a while. Figured you guys would be worn out and sleeping after all the goings on today! I replaced the light fixture for my wife and decided to wait until she was home so she could eyeball things and tell me when they were even and lined up the way she wanted. I did manage to drop part of the old light fixture on her The little cover plate that hides the electrical connections etc. She sure jumped when it fell down!
Catching up on Dexter, which I'd never seen - I've watched 5 episodes now on a free netflix month, pretty good. At first I thought it wasn't living up to the hype, but after getting to know all the characters better, it is a good show. We dropped all the movie channels from our cable so I think we will pick up the online netflix subscription at $8 a month. My son and I can both watch it in different rooms and even watch different shows simultaneously. Not everything is available online, but so what? There is plenty to watch

Morning all. Up early. Could not go to sleep last night. Rolled and tumbled. Too much Yankee food. Shake and Bake eats and eats. Around him, its always meal time. Will admit, the last two restaurants we ate dinner, they gave you big proportions. If fact, Wed. night, John ordered ham steak. They brought him the HOG.
Well, coffee and more coffee. Pack up and meet the gang for GRITS!!!!! Then photo time later to meet more of the gang. Been a good trip.
Bad part is driving back so late in the afternoon. Will hit DC wrong and then try to stay awake rest of the trip [no sleep last night]. Will have to stop and get several mocha's on the way home.
All this for a parade. Well, this year's Rec Day parade is in honor of a friend who volunterred to help with the Rec Dept for 45 years. He died this summer with cancer. His widow will be grand marshal and one ball field will be dedicated and named for him.
8N, you've been a great hubby helping the wife. Hope she recovers fast.

Everybody, I can explain...! You see, we have this new cell-phone law in Martin-land, and when my phone rang, I pulled over to the curb and parked (not wanting to look like a hypocrite). So, I had a nice long chat with the Chief, not knowing he was scootin' by nearby on I95 north. But now that I have His Honor's res-gestae statement, charges are pending for his return.
But, just imagine what might have been...

Bad night in Bayville yesterday. First, my brother in law, Ray, AF53, had to have his gaul bladder removed. He developed pains and had to go to the ER. While he was in the hospital room waiting for his sugery at 8 pm, my son was cutting wood for some outdoor furniture that he is building, cut his right thumb on the table saw. I got the call from my wife on my way home. The thumb is not that bad, many stitches, he will have to sit it out Sat. at the Fire Academy. Ray's surgery went well and he should be released Saturday. So I visited both of them in one trip. Son is going to school today. So that is the news from Bayville, NJ. Where the woman are strong, the men are good looking and the children are above average. Wait I heard that before. Sorry G. K.

Hudson - Thanks for the bulletin on AF53. Hope all is well. On the plus side, he will lose some of the weight we are trying to lose together. However, I don't believe in hacking off body parts to achieve that goal. Hope the boy is ok as well.

Chief glad all going well for you but as I said befor you didn't have me fooled. something told me all a long you would show up at York. hope you have fun and I told the boys to distract fife as you slither sneak back down south thru the north to your safety.
Wish I could of gone with you. I actually asked for sat, sun, and Monday off seeing I was off today and Tuesday and Wednesday. But didn't really have the cash flow to make it worth the trip. Maybe next year.
Oh by the way chief up in that next of the woods most of those places actually know how to feed ya they don't give skimpy portions. I know I grew up in that area basically.
hope all you guys get good deals there at York and watch out for those guys trying to make a quick buck as they think the ones coming don't know there stuff. Chief I see caught one already. Talk to you all later have medical appointment today so need to get going.

Today is an easy day. I have to start a project and the usual chores. I will relax this afternoon in the train room for awhile. Also want to spend some time outside.

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s and rain later on tonight. Worked on more stuff last night. Long Beach is this weekend for Indycar. Sounds like everybody is having a good time at York. I keep thinking I should go there one of these days, but I am not sure what I would be looking for. Mostly it would be to meet all of you who attend from the pot. Regular fare on the dining car. TBIL and I can drive again as some of the regulars are in York. I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning guys. Sounds like Chief has had a successful raid on the north side of the border. While my day ahead seems rather subdued, It sounds like some here have quite a lot to deal with.
8N, if she continues to have issues with the scar on the knee, you may want to ask the Dr. about using "Platelet Gel" which is made from the patient's own blood. Has high growth factors, and can allow for faster wound healing along with a smooth scar. Either way, hope she is up and back to full strength in a hurry.
John, Wow, what a day. Hope all are well in a hurry. Your son is lucky in not losing the thumb.

Currently watching Tank Battles, on the battle of El Alamein. Bit of cloud cover, but supposed to clear out and be nice. With any luck, my schedule for this afternoon will be clear as a very good friend is retiring from the local Marine Corps base and they are having a celebration. It should be great.

Dennis, I agree about Capt. Wirtz at Andersonville. They should have hung Jefferson Davis and the rest of the hiarchy. Also, I know Chicago was no picnic either. Probably a lot of revisionist history going on nowadays. I have been watching the tank battles on the History channel myself. Never knew how depleted Rommel's command was and how much firepower Montgomery had when he won the battle at El Alamein.

Regarding Andersonville, a number of those guys were released at the end of the war only to end up on the Sultana when she exploded and burned near Memphis. Largest marine accident in US history.

Was a very good afternoon, finished work relatively early and was able to make the retirement ceremony. For those who saw "Fireproof", this was the black firefighter who almost gets hit by the train. He is very well liked and respected. A three star general flew down from DC to officiate the ceremony. I was impressed when they began to tell Ken's story and career in the USMC. He is transitioning to be a Associate Pastor at our church. Bob, I will share your kind thoughts.
Ray, I too learned something new about Rommel and Montgomery. So often, we here about the "brilliance" of Monty because he defeated the Desert Fox. Had Rommel had the resources, it may have been a much different outcome. As it was, he held the Brits to a stand off for some time with about 1/5th the tanks. Come to think of it...Monty had to be bailed out a few times, but that is for another day.

Had a really nice time today meeting all of the guys from the CTT gang at York. SJ and I both wanted to let all of you know how much we appreciated the fellowship. It is a wonderful thing to know that you have true friends like this... even if you only see each other in person on occasion.

Howdy guys - had a big storm fly through here a few hours ago, but no tornados nearby. Thanks for sharing the pics, looks like a bunch of handsome guys to me Just took it easy today, watched some tv and read some ctt issues, then killed some zombies. I found some old PC stuff while my wife was cleaning out a closet. TARDIS is ready and beacons are showing up, so lets get moving!
Home in 9 hours. Only took 6 1/2 to drive up. Took 3 1/2 hours to cross the river in DC and get to Quantico. No wrecks so it all goes to poor traffic engineering. HOV lanes end and have to merge right into the same area that I-95 goes from 4 lanes South to 3. Backs traffic all the way backover the river in DC.
Never ever really got sleepy. Had to "pit stop" three times. That gave me some exercise walking. Right foot got numb twice.
Had a great time.
BTW: guess no one mentioned I "gritsed them" again at Dennys. Second great grits caper. Waitress came out after everyone was eating with a platter. The platter had bowls of grits. She said, "I think everyone wants desert."
The surprise attack and then the Second Grits Caper was worth the long stop and go drive back.
The South has won again.

I got called in just as my bride was starting to cook dinner. Just finished and we are at a new day....Arghhhhh! Looking forward to Monday when I come off call.

Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and a project to work on. I'll take a nap this afternoon. Nascar race today and ballgame. The Indians are 9 & 4 and looking good.

Mornin' boys. in the Mid-Atlantic region. Holy cow, do the muscles around my pelvic and hip areas hurt from all of that walking. That's how we repelled the southern invader; we (me and Brent) walked him to death. We pointed out every piece of NS and NW that we saw, and His Honor bought none of it! And we were really hoping to retrieve some of that SS money above the Potomac.
Even though I walked all 7 1/2 miles of the train show, never did come up with a project engine to repaint. Just didn't have time to stop and read ends of boxes all day (yes, folks, it does matter how you display things). Purchases made were LIONEL 6-14217 Army Helicopter Pylon $75 (purchased for a friend), WEAVER B&O wagon-top boxcar $67 (these were the talk of the show), Dept 56 Garage Sale $30, and a bonus Ernie Irvan/Havoline (Racing Champions) pit scene for $5. So, not a bad day.
Enjoyed meeting the old crew, and some new friends, at the CTT photo (I picked the back-drop!). Doc Glen (accompanying Don Baker) turned out to be a sailboat skipper as well, so we hit it off great. The best part of YORK for me was seeing my fellow Coffee Pot members, Don, Roy, SirJames, Charlie, Mitchie, John, Chief, Marty, Laz (and Mrs Laz), and Brent. And got to spend a little time with Carl Swanson, who keeps on me about finishing my layout...I know, I know....
Chief - Glad you got home in one piece. You slipped away before I knew it... Still like your Roanoke idea.
Morning. Cloudy and windy. Parade is still on even though it has rained all around us. Slept good last night. Will unload the 4 Runner later. Yorkies, have a safe trip home.

Yesterday was an incredibly windy day here; sustained winds in the 30s and gusts up to 55. The winds were even harder in some other areas of OK and caused some property damage. I met my wife's parents at the halfway point between them and us to drop off our daughter so she could spend the weekend with them. The winds on the drive back blew our minivan all over the road. I ran the trains for a little while last night with the 7y/o son - no pile ups.
Today it will be warm and not as windy; the winds will only blow around 15 - 20 mph. The railroad museum in town will have caboose rides today so I will probably take the 7y/o son out there. After that I don't have much planned, but I should be able to have some train running time.
Yorkies: I'm glad you all had fun and safely made it back where you belong (Chief). I can't wait to see pics of all your swag.
Dennis: I will be traveling to Brunswick, GA, on the 29th. I will be there for two weeks. Are there any good hobby shops or train attractions to see in the part of GA.
