Best wishes for good times for the guys lucky enough to be headed out to York.
Spanky and DougM........re Tyler, I had the same problem with my (then) little guy when it came to writing. The wifey had resigned herself to the misconceived notion that our son didn't have the aptitude or the knack to write well. Naturally, my son followed those (lower) expectations. In frustration, she handed the ball off to me.
Effective writing is not dependent primarily on a gift or a knack. It is a learned behavior for most. It starts out as a structured discipline like everything else, and it requires a foundation in mechanics: the outline.
I guarantee you.....if Tyler makes starts out preparing a short outline (with you there to help stimulate ideas), an outline set up in phrases, in story form and order (intro, the beginning, the middle, and the end), then expands on that initial outline, his subsequent "writing of the paper part" will be far easier for him. Why? Because most of his his ideas are all already committed to paper, in the outline......and the final product "paper" when written makes sense and flows out of his pen or fingertips.
Sure, it takes time to do an outline first, and our children will strenuously resist anything that takes more time. But there is no other easier path to writing success. I'll bet you once Tyler prepares and then follows his outline, and then gets to writing the paper from it, he won't be complaining. he won't be counting words, and he'll gain instant confidence that he can write well......if he does an outline first.
Joe.....was glad to hear your boy is having fun on the field. These kiddies find so much of their sense of self esteem through these early forays into fun and successes. You must be very proud.
Later, gang.
Jack

Lunch time,
Started raining heavy here about an hour ago. Everything is quiet but i am sure that will change soon.
Spanky, I agree with Jack about Tyler and writing. I saw how my son transformed from fighting it to enjoying doing his blog for English Class. His teacher told us that he is an asset to his class. Not bad for a Senior in HS who in First Grade told his teacher that he did not have to do any of this because he was going to be a Lineman.
Safe trip for all going to York. Be there in the fall.
Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Good morning all,
Chief, hope everything turns out well on your emergency.
Bon Voyage to all the Yorkies and best wishes for good weather.
Church this past Sunday had a family day which we attended DIL makes jewelry and was showing her wares at the event. We all had cheesburgers, chips and drinks. Not bad. There were games and things for the kids to do as well.
Ran some trains yesterday with no accidents. I'm paying the price now for when I built the layout years ago with duck unders. Hard on my old frame now. I have been boxing up a few trains which I hate to do but simply ran out of room on the layout.
Re baseball, after the tragedy at Dodger Stadium, I think people are turned off until they get better security. That whole thing is a black eye for L.A. Latest news in today's L.A. Times talks about Dodger owner trying to get OK from baseball commisioner to make a deal with TV to generate more cash. However, Bud Selig is reluctent saying that he is afraid the extra money won't go to help the team. Owner needs cash for lawsuits and divorce settlements probably. I would be happy if they got a new owner. I don't think this guy can handle it. Although the Dodgers have given us a lot of thrills over the years, I can sympathize with the folks from Brooklyn when the ball club made the move. We lost all the football teams here in L.A. too.

First time in 16 years my Devils are out of the playoffs...not happy.
Work has slacked off....and I'm not making as many hours which ain't good.
Roadrunner project has ebbed a bit, money has other priorities...

Fifedog - Buck is a great manager. The only problems he has with some players I believe is he tries too hard (imagine that) and doesn't let up on the players which doesn't go good with some. I hated to see him an the Yanks part ways after 1995.
Traindood - This ones for you! http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/EbbetsField.htm
Check out the video near the bottom.
I believe that if all the small market teams did things the way the Twins ran their club they'd be alot more successful. They've finished in 1st or 2nd place 8 of the last 10 seasons. Which proves you don't need to spend alot to win, just be smart on how you spend your money. More often than not the reasons that a team doesn't win is because ownership doesn't reinvest money back into the team or just doesn't make the smart moves. Sure money helps to make up for mistakes but if ownership doesn't put money back into the club it's doomed to lose. Example: the Seattle Mariners owner's net worth is 6 times that of the Yankees owners net worth, but Seattle doesn't put enough money into thier team for them to be successful.

Hope I haven't screwed any thing up. Looking forward to getting back to normal around here. I've been working the seafood buffets every Friday at church. They have been doing well despite increased competition every year. need to get some things done around the house I've been putting off for six weeks.
Haven't even had time to think trains.
Wish I was headed to YORK to join the fun. Safe travels all.

that his beloved Indians won again.
Banks...... I'll need to check, but I think my birthday is tomorrow.
420 MILES NORTH?????..............FIFEDOG, an APB for a deranged old coot speaking Suthern and driving a vehicle with North Carolina plates may be forthcoming shortly. He appears to be heading towards Trenton, NJ. Which means he is trying to get to York, but is lost again. Just put him in the tank and I'll call his son in August 2014 to pick him up.

I wish. "Nutso", York does not start until Thursday. Would hope it would not take me that long to get there.
At the country store wireless. Heading back to the lake house. Went to Henderson Lowes and so stopped on the way back.
Siding I got free was not in boxes. Neighbor called and said it had blown all over the yard. Had to rush up and secure it. Raining some. Will sleep and then hit the road back home tomorrow AM.
OH NO!!!! I have to ship another birthday gift to Buckeye.
TIDAL WAVE WARNING. The Yatchet hit the water this afternoon. Such a big ship, causes a tidal wave.
Sleep tight.

Actually, Ray, I was trying to keep awake, so I could watch the whole ballgame. On late nights, I keep falling asleep around 11:30. I hope they can hold this winning streak.
Chuck
Thought I posted last night, but I reclinerized Hope all have a great trip to York. Talked to SJ and they got there okay. They are having a lot of fun, although Charlie took his candy away?
More shenanigans at work, but nothing we can't handle. Wife is doing well - she had a doctor appointment yesterday. There is concern that she can't kick this C-Dif stuff, it keeps coming back. They will give her another round of the high power meds and see what happens. She is working a few hours a day now and doing pretty well, although she gets tired out. Another of her teeth broke, so she'll see the dentist tomorrow. No pain, just another blip in the road. I have a clean and check tomorrow too. Otherwise, I'm on at-home vacation the rest of the week, so I'll do some plumbing and drywall in the basement, as well as a bit of yard work and kill zombies on the xbox.
Mike can drive tonight as usual - hope all are doing well! See ya on the Tardis!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Sunny and 60's today.
Cycled the Cobalt through the Chevy dealer for a new power steering motor (recall), oil change and a repair of the parking brake. It is up to date and healthy again.
Won a MKT hydrocushion box car on e-bay today. Looks to be a low milage one. Good price too.
The improved pain medication my wife is taking looks to be helping. She made the comment today that her therapy execises seemed to be easier.
All for now.
IIASBSDISEI with temps in the 60s. If the fields are dry enough, we will scrimmage outside tonight (on the grass where soccer is supposed to be played). More financial stuff last night. Work was good as well. Bran muffins for breakfast. TBIL and I can drive.
There have been some stupid things done at racing events and some wacky promotional ideas, but the absolute dumbest one will be this year at the 500. Hot Wheels is building a fullsize ramp liked one of their toys to attempt a new long distance jumping record????????!!!!!!!! This will occur before the race in the infield of turn 4. What next.....one of the Knievel's will try to jump the starting field as it comes to the starting line????? Stupid, stupid, stupid, and a total disregard for the 100 year tradition of the speedway. AAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
SJ and Charlie time to get up you only have 4 days there need to get all you can in. Time to have breakfast and hear to strasburg to be first in line.
have fun you 2
Talk to you all later.
Hi GUYZ,
47 here and rainy to get to 55. Next 2 days for YORK, pretty weather temps in the mid 60s. Saturday a wash with rain and wind. I'll be there friday morn for breakfast.
Stay frosty,
laz57
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy 40 degrees. Going up to 55 today with sunshine.
Today is a busy day. I have some errands to run this morning and then the usual chores. By this afternoon, I will be ready for a nice nap.
Well, Indians lost last night. Eight game winning streak is over. I stayed up to watch the whole game.
Dining car is here and it's Cheerios for breakfast. Then, it is All Aboard for Points West.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.
Aloha. Is it really only 37? Well, it'll get warmer eventually. Today's the bride's birthday and I've taken the day off to take her shopping all day and to dinner tonight. Hang in there, Brutus. Glad you are persisting through any work shenanigans. Mike C, there's a video floating around about that Hot Wheels track. Seeing it, I thought, nah, nothing can go wrong with that. Right. Fife, how 'bout them Os? Not as wonderous a team as the Sox but a great start. Traindood, it's fun to hear about Ebbets. I wish I could've see the original Bums. With all the redevelopment in Brooklyn, they could always move back. I was born a Mets fan but 'transferred' allegiances years ago. John, all those storms skipped us - it's pretty dry for Spring so far. Hope southern Ohio isn't too soaked. Off to wait on the bride's wishes.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Rainy Taxachusetts,
Typical Spring weather here at the entrance to Cape Ann......mid to high 40s and 2 inches if rain on tap for today. I'll take it!!! Marine forecast warnings with rough seas and 25 knot winds. Hope Fife can lay off the coast in his 4/12/2011-launched yatchet until things calm down and I can join him. Will probably have to bring additional supplies and send the launch back to shore with his empties.
Toyota shutting down 6 European manufacturing plants for the time being. Short on parts. Hope Ford, GM, and Chrysler are primed to take some much needed market share and add employment.
LAZ......crank up your rain dance so the York weather for the weekend is rain-free. These POT guys are delicate and will melt if they get wet.
SJ and Charlie must be in a PA. jail already. I am waiting for their phone call to bail them out.
DougM......spoil her today!!!!!
MikeC......I agree, motorsports traditions and history interest me and roots must be an integral part of the sport. BUT......maybe the handwriting is on the wall. Attendance across the sport is down. Arguably some of this is due to our economic times. But I think the problem runs deeper. The natives are restless.
8N.....isn't it amazing how one medication works better for one person but not another? I for one on this forum am glad your wife is hanging tough with her knee rehab. It has been a rough 18 months for her, but she has been winning the war. Prayers continue.
Brutus.......don't know much about CDIF, but from what I understand it takes quite a while to shake and monkeying with meds goes with the territory. Prayers continue to sustain her until this too passes while she regains her stamina. Hope Char's dental insurance is better than ours. My wife has a similar upcoming procedure, and the out of pocket is not chump change. I kid her that I should have checked in the horse's mouth before I committed. She found little humor in my remark.
CHUCK...... Indians 8-3. Red Sox 2-9. Boston fans in the depths of depression. At this pace the home team will lose 145.6 games this season.
Chief.....another invasion of the North? That driving distance reduces my defensive buffer down to 300 miles.
Buckeye..... Hope your wifey does something special for you and has not run out of ideas.
JimSP......waters are running high here as well, but not to the flooding stage. The past few years we have gotten quite a bit of above average rainfall in April and May.
Brent......hope you wore a batting helmet to the game last night. Don't need you to get injured before the layout reaches 20% completion. The way I calculate it you should finish this thing up by 2021.
Hello all,
Rainy and low 50's here. Hope the weather improves soon.
Brutus, My folks both had C-diff a couple of years ago. It lasted for months. Every time they took them off the medicine it would be back in a couple of days. Finally the Doc's gave them a low dose liquid Vancomyacin for three months. A local Pharmacy mixed it for them and it was way cheaper than the pills they started out with . Hope it all works out. will continue.
Thanks guys - yeah, just another thing, no big deal. 8NT, hope they get that knee back to full power and continued prayers of course.
Wife let me sleep in more or less, but got up at 7:30 anyway. Watching Resident Evil Afterlife right now, then need to do a little work on the lawn, get cleaned up and go to the dentist. We'll probably do lunch first?
TTFN!
Lunch Time,
I just finished left over spareribs that the wife and I collaborated on yesterday.
Rich, Good to see you back.
SJ, I like your logic. Since it is Tuesday, we will have dinner at Tuesday's.
Sturgeon-Phish: Be careful with the flooding. Good Luck
Banks: We need a break from all of the hours at work.
Brutus, Jim, enjoy the vacation. Char is tough stuff and she will beat it all.
8n: Good news about your wife.
MikeC: They will do anything to make a profit. Some people love it, not me.
Chuck: Did you jinx the Indians?
Back to work,
I think today may be my birthday so I'm sitting on the curb waiting for the mail truck to deliver all my birthday surprises from the Chief.
Oh!! The mail truck just buzzed on by. I guess I'll wait another four hours for the next one.
