Afternoon fellas and gals:    Hey Ray, video on Dodgers was swell, seen it before awhile back.  If anyone out there gives a hoot, there is a great book on the Brooklyn Dodgers by Rodger Kahn, it is  The Boys of Summer. Check it out. Great stuff in there about the Dodgers and what happened to them after they retired. Speaking of those guys, Carl Furillo, who played right field, wore #6.  When my oldest son made the hockey team for St. John's he asked me who I thought had the best throwing arm in baseball. I said what does that have to do with hockey?   He answered this way; he wanted to wear a number of an athlete who I thought was the best there was at what he did.   That hockey sweater with a #6 on it now hangs framed in my son's sports room.  To this day when I look at that sweater,  it never fails to amaze me how your kids think.  Amazing!    later.

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Mornin'n Y'all.

Paperwork is finally done so now I can render unto Caesar & Gov Moonbeam what they deem belongs to them. Grumpy Think I'll wait til tomorrow to mail them though. Bang Head

Doug M, Birthday Week? Think maybe someone has been surfin' over your shoulder and noticed all the Buckeye B'days ?

SJ, On the trip to/from York did you sit in the back reading a newspaper and make Charlie wear a chauffers cap. Clown Be sure and keep all those youngsters in line.

For BB fans on a budget the Padres have a pretty good deal, in centerfield they have "The Park in The park". A nice big grassy hill where the family can throw down a blanket and watch the game for $5 a head. For the close plays on the bases or a good play in general there is also a jumbotron for replays, and at the base of the hill is like a long wide sandbox(the beach) where the younger ones can play when they get bored with the game. I still remember when Ray Kroc, McDonalds fame & fortune, first bought the team and they really played pop warner style one nite. He was there and after the game he used the PA to apologize to all the fans in attendance that nite for the teams performance, sure ruffled some "professional feathers" but really endeared himself to the fans.

Safe travels to the Yorkies. Have fun and enjoy.

Good morning all,

Chief, glad to hear your "emergency" was not life threatening.

Chuck, sorry your team lost.  My son went to the game here in Anaheim, California.  Even though the Angels are local, I have no dog in the fight although I like the Angels better than the Dodgers but who does'nt the way things are going now.

Buckeye, is this birthday for real or what?  Anyway Happy B-Day whenever it is.

Today must be a day for the Bandit meets at York if there's any left.  Wish I was there.  My buddy, D.Baker must be happy with the weather.

Did not run any trains yesterday.  Don't know why not.  I just had too many chores to do.

Dennis, thanks for list of things to see in your area.  I was in Atlanta a few years ago but just passing through on the way from the airport to visit BIL in Chattanooga.  Did see a lot of Civil War history up that way though.  We saw Missionary Ridge, Lookout Mountain and the National Cemetery in Chattanooga where incidentally, the Northern heros of the Great Locomotive Chase are buried. They had a monument of the General Locomotive at the grave site.  Sadly, the BIL I visited passed away in recent years and is also buried in the same cemetery as he was a veteran.

The most rewarding experience I had at York was being able to make a side trip to Gettysburg.  That was in April.  I came back that same summmer with my wife and did a grand tour of the whole place.  We stayed in the area for about a week.  While at Gettysburg, we got to see a Confederate music band give a concert at the Local High School and reinactors from both sides durning the week on the battlefield.  We were there near the anniversary of the battle on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, hence the reason for the reinactors.  Did the walk on the route of Pickett's charge from  the starting point to the Angle on the Union side and return.  Very moving experience.  It took me about 45 minutes but it took the rebs a little longer however since they were wearing heavy wool uniforms in the summer heat and carrying a heavy rifle and were being shot at for most of the distance.  I was only wearing shorts and sneakers.  I imagine there will be something going on there this year because of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War with the firing on Ft. Sumpter  which was yesterday.

Have a good day y'all,

Ray

Good afternoon all,

It is sunny outside and the high is 83.  I woke up to get the kids off to school and then I enjoyed a three-hour nap - today is day three of my week off.  The wife, baby, and I have been relaxing most of the day.  We have Bible study tonight, but before that I have to take the older two kids for their weekly allergy shots.

Ray and traindood - My thoughts were the same as Ray's thoughts.  Every owner has plenty of money to spend, if the owner chooses to.  Yes, the Yankees have made a ton of money, but the owner has spent a ton of money as well.  It wasn't always that way for them either, but I believe Steinbrenner was a very forward thinking owner who knew he had to spend the money he earned to keep winning.  The Devil Rays have also proved you can win by having a solid farm system.  But don't get me wrong, I wish they didn't pay players as much as they do – I believe they are very overpaid for what they do, but I suppose I contribute to it by watching, buying merchandise, and going to games.  However, I am thankful I live in a country where we can pay professional athletes extreme amounts of money.

Good day,

Joe

Hey Doug M.      Just a post on the boro of Brooklyn.  I was born there but was raised mostly in Queens. There is 256 neigborhoods in  NYC and I worked in em' all.  Some good, some bad, all interesting.   Brookyn is the seventh largest city in the U.S., it's diversity is staggering. The area which was the former home of those lovable Bums from Brooklyn is not enjoying a renessiance. The area that is revitalized is dowtown Brooklyn where Flatbush Ave. begins at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. This by the way is where the Battle of Long Island was fought in the Revolutionary War, which happens to be the current location of L.I.U.  Also the Nets are going to enjoy there brandy new arena there soon.  As soon as you cross over the Brookyn Bridge from Manhattan, the downtown area is right in front of you.   Real estate prices are up, up and away!      I always wear a leek in my bonnet when I'm in Brooklyn!!      later.

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Good Evening

It rained all day. The only disappointment was we could not go out into the yard area at the Pa RR museum as there were mud issues and so the outside was closed. Charged us full price though. Oh  well  it is a worthy cause.

Doug M. Happy Birthday To K for me. I hope she had a fun day.

Happy birthday to Kelly, Doug's Better Half!  She is really a terrific lady Thumbs Up

Well today I lost a battle with my hose.  I left the sprayer on it all winter and it won't come off, even using a compression wrench.  I also had to tighten up the spindle on the indoors shut-off for one of my outdoor faucets.  I'm toying with the thought of redoing a little of that inside finished wall so I can just replace that cut-out with a ball-type cutoff.  I could put that overhead, actually.....  It would take a little bit of time, but might be worth it in the end.  Another thing I should have done before I put up all that drywall Dunce

Dentist appointment went well and no cavities, but I got a lecture about my son's dental hygiene or lack of it.  Apparently we really need to get on him about this.  As a young teen, I keep thinking that the desire for company with the opposite gender will kick in and he will take better care of things like that.  But, so far, he has not made that connection!

Nice chat with SJ last night and with Charlie tonight - sounds like they are having a great time.  I sure wish I was there with them and all you guys.

TARDIS is ready and we have Sam Adams, Old Mills, Banilla (got the key from Lady James!), and rootbeer for those who want it!  Let's go boys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Missed the Tardis, again last night. I got home at 10:20 and the wife had a (another) filter for the fish tank that she was installing (make that attempting, AF53, you know what I mean).

SPMan, Ray, We went to Gettysburg a couple of years ago. I was in awe of the scope of the battle. It blew me away.

Mike C, Enjoy soccer with the High Schoolers and thanks for sending the dinning car my way.

Brutus, We had the Dental Problem with our teen also. Girls did staighten it out.

Everyone in York, enjoy.

Time to get ready for the Safety Huddle.

Good morning all,

I'm up earlier than usual (especially for not having work this week) because the baby decided to wake up early and play.  He is asleep again now, but my body wants to stay awake.  It's about 55 outside right now and today's high is 81 - it's going to be another beautiful day.  I wanted to post last night but the site seemed to be slow again.  We had Bible study last night and when we got home I was able to run the trains for about 30 minutes with the baby while the older got ready for bed.  I then watched the UFC show I recorded.  I built a simple display shelf on Tuesday and I will hang it today.  It's going in the garage where the layout is, and it will free up some space on the layout.  Right now all four trains are on the layout and it is really meant for only two.

York attendees: Please have some fun and be safe, I hope to join you all someday in the future.

traindood - Great story about your son's hockey sweater.

Brutus - I was hoping my 9y/o and 7y/o would grow out of their "I'm not dirty" phases, but I guess I'm better off hosing them down in the yard.Laugh

Good day,

Joe

IS that a Rebel Yell I hear from York?  Chief, glad you made it!  I was going to reply last night, but the gremlins on the site ate my message.  Also wanted to wish Buckeye a very Happy Birthday!  So far, it is a pretty day out.  I am going in shortly, but may be stuck for some time.

Brutus, you have certainly had your share of troubles over these last few years, but you have also had blessings.  I continue to pray for you and your family.  May you be blessed with the strength and courage to overcome the troubles that come your way.  May your faith guide you in all your ways.

Ray, we live about 40 minutes south of Andersonville.  If you find yourself in the area, it is well worth the time to go.  They have some special days throughout the year, such as Memorial Day in which they bring in former POWs.  (it is also the national POW museum)  What is great is the oportunity to speak with WWII bomber pilots, fighter pilots from several wars, and others.

Currently watching The Military Channel on "Great Tank Battles", this episode is on "73 Eastings", the battle in Iraq '91.  We do  have an impressive military and I am thankful for the freedoms we enjoy at their expense.

Hope you Yorkies have fun and get lots of Flanged wheels!

Dennis

I really wish I would have got things together to go to York this time.  I might be able to make it in the fall.

I got more done on the PW Lionel layout yesterday.  I mounted a section of 2x4 to the side of the table so there is a place to mount controllers.  I couldn't do anything bigger without running into space issues.  Once the paint is dry, I can start wiring.  I've also been looking for a pair of real 022s to replace the LLC ones that I am using.

Not much planned for today other than a trip to BB to get my "refreshed" (like that makes me fell better than "refurbished"Confused) 360.  Oh well, that I why I bought the 360 S from Walmart.

Good morning all,

Chief, you sly fox!  You sure fooled me with that "have to be in the Roseville parade" story.  Hope you and D.Baker have time to rib each other.  All of you have fun!

Dennis, Sounds like they have made Andersonville into something with a little more redeeming value if that was possible.  That was sure a sorry affair and a black eye for the South.  I know the Union had some notorious prisons as well but probably nothing like Andersonville.  That place would sure take the glory out of war, if there ever was any.  It would be interesting to see it, if I'm ever near there however.  The famous Clara Barton who founded the Red Cross went there after the war  to supervise the respectable reburial of the dead and placing markers I think.

Good Afternoon Ya'll From Hazy Taxachusetts,

What a rain we had yesterday.....places South of me got 5 inches, but we were just under 2.  Sun on tap for tomorrow.  Although the grass is greening up, the Winter did a number on some parts....may be forced to do some R&R to get it going.

My wife bought some rabbit ears to dress up Maximus the Doberman for Easter.  I think that counts as animal abuse, especially the part where she makes him sit there quietly while she tries to get a photo. Smile, Wink & Grin

ALL YOU YORKIES.....HAVE FUN, AND MAKE SURE TO BRING US ALL BACK SOME TRAIN-RELATED GIFTS.  If the stuff is expensive, remember......we are worth it.  Big Smile

DougM.....at least you spoiled the wifey for her birthday.  Makes you look like a hero by comparison.

Later, gang.

Good evening everyone.  Hope the weather in PA is almost as good as it is here.  80 and clear.  Ray, Andersonville was a dreadful place during the war.  The commander who was tried and hung for war crimes actually did his best with what he had.  Supplies were hard to come by and disease was rampant.  I once saw a program on a Union POW camp up near Chicago that made Andersonville look like a country club.  The commander there had plenty of supplies, but wanted the prisoners to suffer.  As is typical, winner writes the history books and so there is little mention of that place.

Chief, hope phase 2 of the plan goes well.  As usual, they will never know what hit 'em.  So, how many locomotives you going to bring south of the border?Wink

Hope everyone has a safe and fun time.

Actually none so it looks.  Got a set of Amtrack cars for a steal.  [I do not have any of those at all]  Then two add ons for another good price.  Found a diesel but dealer had upped the price and then wanted to give me a discount that was retail price. Thumbs Down  Saw my old buddy Mike Taylor [only Yankee worth a hoot] at Ma and Pop Junction.  He is now partner with Marty.  He is now web master for OGR and MTH.  He found me one in NJ.  Less than MSRP and then the guy discounted it $30.  [the shipping is less than the $30]  BTW: M&P Junction is now a MTH dealer.

Clicked on the "torn paper" in address bar.  It turned blue and now it "reads" Southern.  Now wait a minute.  Shouldn't that color be gray? Whistling

If you are buying at york, get Roy to buy for you.  He can bargin corn off of a cob and the farmer will never realize what happened. Laugh

Now, I do have to leave right after photo time to drive straight back.  I do have a big town parade to ride in Sat. morning. Crying  The thing is, it is suppose to rain Friday night [love driving interstates at night in the rain] and Saturday.  Tongue Tied

Sleep tight.

Great Day at York....

Played phone tag with the Chief and Don.  We will hook up tomorrow for sure at the CTT booth.  Sir James and I made our rounds leaving just the Silver and Blue halls untouched until tomorrow.  We had 9 Michigan guys for dinner at Smokey Bones BBQ... yum.  Don and Chief were welcome but already got hunkered down at Logans.

Back to the fairgrounds in the morning!
