Wow.  No TGIF's were posted today.

Anyhow, partly sunny and mid 70's today.  Line of thunderstorms to the southwest tonight - probably will see some in the wee hours of the morning.

My office phone line was re-routed to my new office today - while I was in the middle of a phone call in my old office!  That about sums up today's entertainment at work.

I live about 30 miles east of Whiteman AFB, where the B2's are based.  Saw one climbing out at lunchtime the other day.  Those things are so unusual that they always make me pause and watch for a bit.  With the world situation lately, I also wonder if they are going into harm's way.  Usually say a short prayer for the crew's safe return.

All for now.

Chief - gonna fly a bonny blue flag by that statue?

Jack - prayers for MIL.  Also prayers for Sarah.  Prayers for us all and our friends and families.

Good news - budget deal cut at the last minute, so my savings will not be destroyed.  I was going to have to work for possibly future pay and my wife would be furloughed for possibly no pay.  Glad those guys finally did THEIR Job - sheesh!  We went through the last long furlough and then had to wait 3 weeks as I recall to get a paycheck.

Don - OUTSTANDING, I SAY, OUTSTANDING BOY!  Thumbs UpThumbs Up

LAZ - Just a terrific layout man!  LOVE it!  Always love those display cases you built, also!  Where's the KEG?

Pat - always glad to be ready with the TARDIS for a quick getaway!  SPeaking of which - let's go!

Good morning all! 41 and sunny this morning going up to the mid 50's.

Not much going on today, number one daughter coming over for her Saturday visit, probably have to go in to work for a few hours as that will be the norm for the next 8 months or so as work is getting heavy.

Yankees felt so bad for the sawx for not winning one this year so far so.......... Today's another day!

Jack - Prayers for your MIL. Hope all goes well.

SJ - Sounds like your feeling better and looking forward to the trip. Good.

Doug - Sounds like you're always about $0.50 ahead of us on gas prices. Jersey has always had the lowest tax on gas. It's the only thing tax wise that we are the best as real estate taxes kill us more than almost everywhere else.

Don - Nice setup! The hours that go into that must be something. Keep the pics coming.

Mitch - Hope all is well with Baby Sierra!

John - I'll see you tonight around 9:00. Unless you're at the shop having some of that delicious coffee frozen yogurt I had last night!!!!

Have a good day all!

Morning to All,

Yesterday was another crazy busy day. Came home and had dinner in family room and was switching back and forth listening to the NASCAR Nationwide race and the Grand Ole Opry at about 9:00 PM.  Next thing I knew It was nearly 11:00 PM and I went off to bed.

Baby Sierra has a heart murmur, I would suppose related to prematurity. They are administering some medications to try to close the hole in her heart which can have some terrible side effects. If that doesn't work, she may face surgery.  Her grandparents flew out of Dulles at 4:30 AM today. Keep the prayers coming folks.

Meeting some friends for dinner which is always a fun time. Tomorrow AM, I am helping out at an Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser for an Eagle Scout Project at my school. We are creating a meadow habitat for kids science studies using native flowers and plants.  Great place for bugs, butterflies, flowers, and other creepy crawlies that kids like to study.

Don B - love the layout progress photos. Keep'em coming.

Looking forward to York. Have no real shopping list, nor much of a budget, but will still enjoy it. Looking forward to meeting up with the Coffee Pot members for the photo.

Take care,

Mitch.

Good morning from the warm and damp South.  Rainy.  Need to mow grass real bad.  Off to Raleigh to pick out marble and granite.  Cleaned the living room.  What a mess.  Will take days to clean all the dust all over the house.  Plumber friend has replaced almost 90% of all the piping in the house.  All he has to do now is the kitchen supplies and washer lines.  He actually pulled out all of the old galvanized [which had been connected to the copper] in the walls going up and inside the upstairs bath as it was right over the downstairs bath.  Fished in new piping up through an outside wall.  Really knows his business.

Prayers for those mentioned on the forum.

Have a good one.

Morining  fellas and gals:    So glad those big bloated gas bags finally decided to keep the govt. running.  Was worried i would have to break another piggy bank for beer money!

Hey  Chief:   My two cents: I would not want to emulate either Lee or Grant.  They were brilliant Generals but as civiians they were total failures. Many condider Lee a traitor for resigning his commission and fighting with the rebels. Would have been broke if he didn't marry into the Custis family. Lost his wife's ancestral home, Arlington.  And Grant was a failure at every business he ever attempted. He was a mule skinner to make ends meet!   The only thing they were good at was war.   As the Ol' Perfessor says: You could look it up!   later.

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Aloha. A busy morning like y'alls. Grey and cool here - hard to see it getting to 80 tomorrow. Nice layout you're working on, Don. Hope everyone enjoys York. Like Dennis, I too am jealous. Ray, that was Lake Conway, by Conway, NH. Used to out in the middle of no-place. Remember riding the Conway Scenic Railway - and the cog line up Mt. Washington in just terrible weather. It was fun!

Busy day already - started with the bride and youngest up at a homeless women's shelter where our church is putting in a new kitchen this week; then took the youngest on some errands picking up stuff for the outside- now, hope to seal the deck before it rains, plant some more grass seed and lube the garage doors. Just little stuff. Then tonight taking the teen, the youngest and my FiL to a hockey game. Tomorrow after working all day at church, I'm taking the bride to the musical 42nd Street. Whew! Tired just thinking about it. Big Smile

Afternoon all!

Well spring has sprung and it will be 89 today. Yeow - too early for the heat. The grass is weeds are growing like crazy.

Got a good nights sleep and slept until 10 this morning. One good thing about teenagers is they are not up early!

NASCAR race last night was kind of boring and strange how empty the grandstands were for the Nationwide race. Sprint cup race tonight! Boy is the missus happy about that!

Prayers for those that need them.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Thank you for all of your prayers and thoughtful words about my mother-in-law.  They  took her off the IV antibiotics and sent her on her way.  First stop on the way home was Walmart to pick up a few grocery items and the antibiotic prescription.  The team (MIL and FIL) managed to leave the presciption in a bag at Walmart.  Walmart recovered the bag with the prescription and called them at home.  So they had to return to recover it, success.  Now the MIL is complaining she is not permitted to wear shoes and is supposed to lay low, off her feet for the near future.

Progress!!!!!!!!  These infections can be lethal and in very short order for an 87 year old.  I just hope the Docs were stern enough and put the element of fear in her so she does what she is told until all of this passes.  IF SHE HAD ACTED SOONER WHEN ALL OF THIS CAME DOWN INSTEAD OF WAITING TO SEE WHAT WOULD DEVELOP...........Bang Head

Good afternoon everyone.  Just returned from the outing with the kids.  Both kids did well with their violin recital.  We had FIL and his bride along as it is his birthday.  On the way out the door, I found a long snake skin on one side of the stairs and on the other side, a 3ft. King snake.  I could not believe everyone else just walked past and didn't notice.  After recital, we took everyone, including the violin teacher to lunch, and finally home.  Since it is the FIL's B-day, we bought him a nice Case pocket knife and a book on whittling.  Went over well.  Plan on having a quiet evening and working on the layout.  I am covering call, so hope not to get called in.

Traindood, I think, given different circumstances, Lee would have been quite successful.  He was top of his class at West Point and had done quite well with engineering.  Had they not taken Arlington away from his family, I am sure it would have been kept.  That being said, I think he would be quite honored by what it has become.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Dennis

Good afternoon all,

Dennis, I agree that Arlington would have been saved no matter what.  Lee was in the top of his class finishing #2 behind a Charles Mason in the class of 1829.  Arlington was actually taken for non payment of taxes according to one story I have heard.  Mrs Lee attempted to pay them but her payment was not accepted.  I believe the Lee family was finally awarded a settlement in modern times for the loss of their property after a law suit brought by some of the relatives.

Wasted my afternoon watching the Masters golf tournament.  None of my favorite players are doing too well.  Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland is leading for three days in a row.  They say he is going to be great.  I think he is only 21 now.  However from a spectator standpoint, I was hoping somebody I have heard of would win.

Been watching what one guy has done with his WBB NS F3 units.  He has added ditch lights, solid pilot, cab interior and a better headlight from Evan Designs.  I might try some of those tricks if I ever get mine.  I was told they might ship in about another week.  I sure like that Southern paint job even if it says Norfolk Southern on the side.  It still looks good.  It's the old tuxedo paint scheme.

Chief, glad that you and RT have tongues firmly planted in cheek when you are blasting one another.  I joined this party a long time after you guys started all this North/South bashing.  I know it's all in fun.  I have read a lot about the Civil War but no matter how many books I read, the South lost.  I keep thinking that one of these days, General Lee will win but I know it ain't gonna happen.  I have a nice print of him that I picked up at Gettysburg but haven't had it framed yet.  I live with too many Yankees. Maybe I could put it in my train room.  Grant, I can respect as a general, if not a president but we still haven't forgiven Gen. Sherman, at least not in Georgia I suspect.

Ray What chief doesn't know is that I have a bars and stripe and use to hang it in my house regularly till wife asked me to take it down because of where we live. Afraid it will insult some of our neighbors. I look at it as history. I have always liked the south and have fond memories growing up in it in the mid 60's ( Oct 63 - DEC 66) Learned a lot about respect and manners back then that i still carry to this day and my evals while in the navy reflected that I was very polite and well mannered around others. I to this day feel it was a blessing my period I grew up in the south and basically why I wanted to come back. I was 8 in 1963 so you can see the age I was at was a very impressible time period and it stuck with me.

I still like to jab at the chief thou and his little insult he throws at me as carpetbagger I just do like he does ignore, ignore, ignore.

Mitch, Sorry I didn't mention this earlier.  With regard to the "Hole in the heart", it is known as a Patent Foramen Ovale.  In Utero, it allows for blood to pass through to the pulmonary circulation.  When a baby is born, the pressures in the heart cause it to close...most times.  Often, people can grow to old age and never know they have one open.   If symptoms are present at birth, they usually try to use medicine, if that doesn't work, direct closure (surgical) is used.  It is a common procedure, with minimal risk.  (though every surgery has it's inherent risk).

Ray, Yeah, Sherman's name is not mentioned around these parts.  If you have ever been to Savannah, you can see the old south architecture that was lost in the "March to the Sea".  Regarding the Masters, Augusta is a beautiful place and should be taken in if given the chance.

God BLess,
Dennis

Ray, Sherman is mentioned here.  General Johnston had the Army of the South.  They fought between Goldsboro and Raleigh.  Sherman came to Raleigh and Johnston retreated past Durham.  Most folks think Lee's surrender was the end of the war.  Actually Johnston's surrender was after Lee's.  Now Sherman and Johnston met at Benton's Farm House.  Now get this.  Sherman gave Johnston and his army such lenient surrender terms [even let the soldiers keep their weapons to go home and hunt for food] that he got "chewed out".

T'storms here.  Heavy rains.  This is a surprise.

Later.

Nice day in Saint Louis - warm and sunny.  So glad there is a budget coming through!  Had biscuits and gravy for breakfast and then did some laundry and goofed off for a while.  This afternoon, my wife picked out a new light fixture for over the diningroom table.  I had noted the bulbs burned out (all but 2) the other day and instead of replacing the bulbs she wanted a new light fixture!  She found one that matches the ones she made me put in the kitchen more or less, so that is cool.  I also bought a mole killer that Charlie recommended and some repellant as well.  I guess I will do a little work around the house tomorrow.  Tardis is ready, so let's go!

Mornin' boys.  Laundry day.  Steaks on the grill with oldest princess and her Beau tonight.  Spent yesterday morning touring around in a SeaArk 25 for 4 hours. Pirate  Fifepup had his junior prom last night, and I spent the late afternoon washing and waxing the SS for him to drive.  He went stag, but at least he went.

Fife, I will send him up.....but please send him back as King snakes also eat rattle snakes, and that's a good thing!

Morning all, quiet time/reading done.  Time for breakfast and getting ready for church.  I may be on camera, not sure as the director had forgotten to schedule around my time in Tennessee.  I was able to get some layout work done last night and hope to get some more done after church.  I am building some HO scale buildings to place in the back ground as forced perspective.

Chief, In Columbus Georgia, they have a marker by the Chattahoochee River stating it was the last battle of the Civil War.  From what I have read, it was more of a skirmish of small proportion.  It is in question if it was the last battle though.  If you ever get there, they have a nice museum where they have a couple of confederate gun boats.  The Confederate Naval Museum.

May each of you have a blessed week ahead.

Howdy all!

Welp, I visited the new train store in Charlottesville, Train Town.  Anyway, their selection isn't all that great, and their prices are about 10% over list.  Can't think of any reason I'd want to visit there again.

Spanky - Thanks for the up date. I won't make a special trip to Charlottesville. The next time I am there I will check out Train Town.
