Navyjack ... do I ever wish I still had it ! I even at one time thought of getting one in a kit car . I loved the triumphs and mg's back then . There was a group of us that would meet every 2 weeks or so and have rallies ... not me in my mg ... but those guys would race . As you I always wished for an Austin Healy ... I always thought the body style was stolen for the ford cobra ... think about it ... they used the austin healy concept ! Oh forgot to mention ... that hole in the middle of the front bumper was for a crank to start it if the battery was dead ... lol . I still remember a jag xke for sale back then for $2,900.00 .... and I let it go .... ... of course that was alot of money then ... I was makeing a whopping $1.25 an hour ...
ChiefEagles Morning all. Out the door to the meetings, Prayers requested that Rolesville gets the High School. I know the Lord is with us. Let you know tonight.
Morning all. Out the door to the meetings, Prayers requested that Rolesville gets the High School. I know the Lord is with us. Let you know tonight.
Good Mornin Ya'll From The Northeat Steambath,
Chief.....prayers being delivered. Marshalling the troops and outflanking the knucklehead....your plan will succeed.
Hit 89 here yesterday since I am only a mile off the ocean. Inland temps approached 100 in spots. Still no significant rain in the the forecast. It was 78 this AM at 6:15AM and 92 by 9AM.....about where it will stay allegedly for the day with close to 100 inland again.
Three consecutive days and three consecutive cookouts at Grampy and Granny's place. 7 y/o granddaughter stayed overnight July 4 eve and sank into a coma upon hitting the sack, stayed that way until 8AM yesterday AM. Kids are all on or all off! Granny slept in and so the two of us got in a lot of quality one-on-one time together, having breakfast on the deck and then, after a digestion safety break, in the kiddie pool. GD wore me out as I served as her sea horse for a few thousand laps. Then we had "sword" fights with these long tube shaped floaty devices. While I was smart enough to apply SPF 50 on the granddaiughter, I figured I didn't need it......wrong. The dog is smarther than me.....he has enough sense to stay in the shade and ask to go into the a/c'd house.
Measured the pool yesterday: 15 feet across and 28" deep, large enough for the kiddies and for the adults who can't stand the heat anymore. Water temp was 82 at 10AM. Think I have defeated the algae issue as the pool is nice and clear. The daughter and SIL showed up with the 1 year old granddaughter and just one friend and FOOD! Little ones stayed in the pool with adults while the men cracked a beer or three to plan out the cooking strategy.....ya gotta have a plan. We grilled mahi-mahi, chili cheese dogs, cheeseburgers, and some sort of Portuguese sausage that looks like Polish sausage with the same consistency but quite different taste wise. Salads out the ying yang and a yummy rice dish the daughter whipped up.....I'm nuetral with rice but not this one! Had two gluttony-sized helpings of that with plenty of yummy leftovers left behind.
DougM......thanks for the 4th parade photos! I noticed there are no cupholders in your chairs. Hope you get a sensible rain. How is the new deck furniture working out?
OleTimer and NavyJack....I got a video clip from Brutus' Dad about teaching our youth and others about respect for the sacrifices of our soldiers, many of whom were/are family members. Made me think long and hard about the stories of my Dad and my FIL who both during WWII participated in the Pacific theater about how close we came to speaking a couple of other languages. "He who ignores history is doomed to repeat it." God bless the troops, may He/She keep them out of harms way.
SJ.....lay low in this heat. That is what my dog is doing.
Have been thinking of Fife sailing the water of the Chesapeake. Certainly he has room in his busy vacation schedule for that! I could picture him on the 4th laying off the harbors and taking in the fireworks on the evening of the 4th.
NavyJack, OleTimer, RaySP, and SubBob......Triumphs, Austin Healy's, MGs, burned out Alphas, Jags. It seems like many of us or our friends were bitten by the open air British cars until the maintenace drove us into bankruptcy. I drove cheap American junkers and remained envious of my friends until I could afford my first "real" car. There is a 1969 Corvette sitting under a tarp on stands in my garage.......for the day when it is my turn again. Responsibility has its price.
Pat/Banks......of course we appreciate youse farmers. We just don't want to say so and have it go to your heads.
Chuck.....since walking is one of your present exercises de jour, I'll ship you my dog and you can walk him. He's a chick magnet.
MikeC.....I'm curious. How many minutes playing soccer in this heat and humidity until the thrill is gone?
DougDG, Don, and RaySP......is the CA fire season upon you yet?
Brutus......since you are R&Ring the basement and that is where the trains are going, have you considered wide pocket doors? More room for the trains and for hauling the big stuff into and out of there.
HudsonJohn/Rich/Dennis......our local FD was so busy this past weekend responding to all manner of issues, heard plenty of sirens. A large two family home went up in our downtown area and took out parts of two adjacent homes, plus the heat was so intense and the fire so close to the street that two cars exploded. My wife and I live about 200 yards from an exit ramp for the highway and in the middle of chow the evening of the 4th we could hear tires screeching followed by a loud bang. Sirens shortly thereafter. Some guy thought he was a race car driver, took the exit ramp way too fast, lost control, and hit another vehicle.
Demay......those WII games are dangerous and humiliating. My 7 year old granddaughter whipped everyone's behind in the boxing, more than once. The winner kept fighting the next challenger. It only took about 45 minutes before she finally ran out of gas......for about 5 minutes.
Later, gang! As Laz would say......stay frosty.
Jack
PS: beer inventory down about one third after the weekend's festivities. It seems No One touched the Buttwiper beer, not a single can. Brutus......a slam on St. Louis and AB.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Ole TimerSPman ... wow ... my dad was in the fighting 29th division ! The blue and grey ... he hit Normandy beachead and through france - holland - and all points clear to germany in WW2
Old timer, I am very grateful to your Dad and the men of his generation for keeping us all safe on the home front. I am very proud of these men and the 29th Division. I don't claim any credit for my own service however. I was in between Korea and Viet Nam so we did not see any combat. I just feel honored to have been allowed to serve in the same division. God bless our veterans who are in harms way again today as well.
Chief, prayers for your mom and also for your new school.
Doug Murphy, nice looking group in the picture.
Have a good week.

Good mornin everybody from sunny cloudy california! We all wish it's 85 degrees, and smooth swells. Traffic is anything but clear, and the 4th fireworks continue to go off! my hobby shop got a new shipment of operating cars and track, but i dont have any money! (darn recession)
shout out to all railroaders in LA! aaaaaaaalll abooooooaaard!
wait, what?
Good Late Afternoon from the Jersey Shore, it hit over 100 and it still is HOT.
Bob, looking at the pictures of the Corvair 95 Van brought back a lot of memories. We still had them in 1972 when I first started working at the electric and gas company. They were in the gas co. and the biggest complaint was NO HEAT!!!! I know a Father and Son team that are big Corvair fans and they have a nice collection ranging from sedans, convertibles to a pickup and a van. They love them.
8n, Good Luck to the Father to be.
Chief, You don't have to worry about getting the new school. A couple of friends I know, Tony and Louie are going to make the Mayor of Raleigh "An Offer He Can No Refuse". Nice Joisey Boys.
Bob, Navy Jack, Ole Timer, I had a couple of friends of mine that were into English Sports Cars. They definitely used less gas than my American Muscle, BECAUSE THEY WERE ALWAYS BROKE DOWN! LUCAS IGNITION, LUCAS ELECTRICAL!!!! They were always working on them. When they ran they were great, but always tinkering. What do you want from a positive ground. I love BUSTING ABOUT OLD CARS AND BRING PEOPLE BACK TO REALITY.
RI Jack, Save those Buddies for the guys from Jersey. Still brewed in Newark, N.J. The first to go at our functions. Always need a backup.
Thoughts and Prayers to all in need.
John
Thanks giz!!!

Hudson, they must have gotten here fast. BTW: our new School Board Chairman and my friend is from NJ. Call his cell and his recording goes, "Levez me a messagz...."

A LONG HARD BATTLE BUT THE GOOD GUYZ WON! Chief......I'll buy you a frosty when I see you to celebrate. Did you ever settle on the location? That too was a bone of contention, think you gave us a link to one of the meetings where the hired gun experts didn't know doo-doo from shinola.
Temps hit 100 in Boston today, 96 here in my hamlet. Boston record for this date back in 1911 @ 101. 90s forecast for the rest of the week. No rain forecast until the weekend. I'm following the Scotts experts' advice, leaving the lawn mower at the highest setting and one good soaking of 1.5 inches of water a week. I'm still losing the battle of neighborhood lawn stars as mine is browning faster......the others water with irrigation systems daily. Too hot, too dry.
"Stay frosty guyz." What became of Laz?
Jack.
Chief, Gongratulations on the New High School.
Ole Timer and the rest of the British Sports Car guys, I am only teasing. I can tell you about problems with all of the cars of that era. That is why I still keep the points and condenser in my 1965 Mustang, or as they get refered to as Rustangs. Bob's picture of the MGB with the wire wheels reminds of the rainy night that my best friend Vince called me to help him change a flat in his. I remember laying in a puddle beating the wheel off of the hub spline with a sledge hammer. We Never Seized it after that.
Good Evening

Hello All,
Baled hay this evening after work. Got seventy bales. I was hoping for 50. with some rain it would'a been 200. This may cover the cost of fertilizer.
It seems we are officially in a heat wave. Temps may break for the weekend with a slight chance of thunder storms.
Pat, ain't it the truth!!!
Bob , The Corvair looks good. My uncle had a blue one in the early "60s. That's as much as I can remember.
Chief Congas on the School.
Past bed time. Night all.

HOT!!!! I hear that is coming from up North. This hot has to be a certain guy in MA. Was 101 at RDU International. Average temps for today was 89. Must be a Yankee trick to kill my tomato vines.
BTW: may start shooting deer. Just caught one inside my chain link fence at my apple tree. Never had that problem until this year. She got a real send off over the fence. Then shined Maglite into soybean field behind the house, 12 to16 deer within 25 yds. Gave them a "snort" and they took off across the field. Standing at the back of the field looking at my light. Just checked again and they are still at the back of the field.
Now for some popcorn. [Burg and I are going to the lake house tomorrow]
Good evening all,
A warm, humid, cloudy day here. But since my work kept me inside today I did not mind it. Yesterday, the family and I drove to OK City for the evening. We had a nice dinner and it was probably our last night out for dinner before our newest child is born. My wife is scheduled for a C-section next week, but we find out tomorrow if the Dr. wants to deliver the baby sooner. My wife hopes it is sooner; this has been a rough pregnancy for her. On a layout note, I picked up a Walther's built-up gas station at a Hobby Lobby in OK City for a clearance price of only $17.97. It's original price was $54.
Chief - Congratulations on your school. From reading past threads I can tell this was something you were working to obtain for a considerable amount of time. I'm glad your perserverance and trust in the Almighty paid off.
RI Jack - You're not kidding about that Wii being dangerous. I almost pullled a muscle in my arm the first time I played one of the baseball games. And the Wii Fit programs are even more tricky.
Regards,
Joe
'Nother day here in the Ol' Pueblo. Here's a complete photo of my '69 MGB-GT. Engine and tranny are out so she's a little light in the front end. Have all the engine parts but somehow got sidetracked on the van.
Here's a more complete shot of the van. This was a work van so the body has the usual dings but very little rust.
Hudson - heard the heat was like the VW's, but at least GM sprung for a blower rather than just the engine fan speed.
The "new to me" engine on end with the oil pan off. Looks pretty clean in there. Will seal it up tonight w/ a new gasket.
Chief - prayers for your mom
Saw my doc today for a follow up. She is happy w/ my progress, although my vacation schedule may have to change a bit. We'll see.

Mixed sun, rain & clouds today with temps in the high 80's. Real gully washer came through about 10am.
Got a few bids in on misclaneous stuff on e-bay - we'll see how they come out tomorrow.
Chief - prayers for your mom, and congratulations on the new school.
I had a 1973 Triumph Spitfire for a while. Always carried a set of points and tools to change them. Installed a Radio Shack Archer Kit capacitive discharge unit on it. Seemed to help the point life some. That car liked to eat up the U joints in the swing axles too. The joints were so small, grease fittings would not fit. Turns out that they were 'lubed for life'. When the lube ran out, so did the life.
As far as future projects - I've got a 1960 MGA out in the barn waiting for its turn. Aluminium Olds 215 V8 for that one!
All for now.
I just noticed. I've passed the 600 marker. Long way to go to close the gap on some of you gabby types.
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.
RockIsland52, from the moment I step onto the field until I step off, my whole world shrinks to the size of that round ball. At some point, I notice a lack of oxygen and maybe a bit of thirst from time to time. At my age, just the thrill of being on the field is its own reward. Growing up I never found a sport I enjoyed or was good at and now that I have found one, I am savoring every second of it. If the Good Lord is willing, I will expire with my cleats on.
Practiced with "my" soccer girls. Only 11 showed up, but there was lots of activity. I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast before sending it to "Points East". Chief, congrats on the high school. Don't forget the soccer fields. TBIL after my game tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a humid 72 degrees. Going up to 94 today with 94% humidity. The A/C will be working hard.
Today is a busy day. I have the usual chores to do and a project to start. I hope to spend some time in the train room later.
Dining car is here with the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.
Chuck
Jack if you remember last summer Laz disapeared also he seems to get real busy come summer were kinda like his kids at school we normally only see him durning the school semester hmmm wonder what it will be like when he retires will we see him at all?
Hope all having a good day talk to you all later

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, 82 and 98 is forecasted.
Dining car came and we had bagels, juice and ice tea before sending it to points North.
Today is a chill out day and plan for the trip to Colorado next month.
Thoughts and prayers for all in need.
Sub Bob, As I was reading about Yellowstone, I remembered about the optional gas powered heater for the Corvair. The guy's with the Corvairs were telling me about it and it uses more gas than the engine. The guy's in the Gas Co. liked them in the winter for going up the hills in Jersey City. Great traction compared to the Ford, Dodge and later Chevy vans.
8n, I liked the line, "Lubed for Life". I will use it next time we have a failure at work and if it is warranty, I will use it on the rep.
Good mornin Ya'll from Steamy Taxachusetts,
Temps dropped to 78 overnight, back up to the mid 90s today. The humidity is way up over yesterday, so it will seem even hotter than yesterday with the heat index. I hate to burst Chief's meteorological bubble, but in the past few millenia it is my understanding that the weather patterns generally move up from the South/Southwest. So the hot air isn't coming from Taxachusetts as he speculated. Hot air is coming Nawth from Raleigh.
Got up at sunrise to turn on the front sprinlers and take stock of the continued chipmunk assault on my property. They had been busy creating one of their network of tunnels under my front porch a while back and decided to create an exit.....a 9" in diameter one right through our asphalt walkway. Asphalt sidewalks, walkways, driveways, ans roads......a MA. thing I don't understand. Anyway, I filled the hole with 4 rocks the size of my fist. They just excavated around the rocks and broke off more asphalt. Hole is now growing. Wife wants to try poison to eradicate the critters, but Pat is correct......the solution is spelled C-A-T, hungry ones at that.
Demay.....My prayers for a safe and uneventful delivery, if one can call childbirth uneventful. My apologies. I must be remiss in that I didn't know you and your better half are expecting. Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family! Were there any presents with flanged wheels at the baby shower?
Today is the running of the bulls in Pamplona Spain. I was disappointed to see Chuck's post from SNOHIO. Looks like he is skipping this year's event to run from/chase something more interesting and dangerous at PT.
MikeC...... "If the Good Lord is willing, I will expire with my cleats on." Have to admit, that is a fetish I never heard of.
Wes.....sorry I mistook you for Buckeye and his wife visiting Jon and his better half in Ioway. It was Buckeye. I got my Snowhio boys confused. But Buckeye's photo tells it all. Nice watertower, Jon. Really like the local reference. Do you miss it?
Banks.....I'm sweating just reading your post about bailing hay. I was working Maximus the dog in the back yard last night for about 15 minutes and got heated up pretty quickly. Temps had dropped to a cool 88. The dog wanted back into the confines of the a/c too.
Chief......as a proper Southern gentleman, shouldn't you have already trained the pups to be working and hunting dogs? Burg, Lucy, and Finn should be patrolling your vast estates and protecting them from the intruding deer while you sit in your rocking chair on the porch, barking out commands, shotgun laying on the lap with a jug at your reach. With the opposing army on the run, it may be time for a full court press on the regional water rights.
SubBob.....both vehicles, the Corvair van and the MGBGT, seem to have exceptionally clean sheet metal for 40+ year old iron. They must have spent their lives up until now in the dry climes of the good ole American Southwest.
8n.......since the temps have fallen to the high 80s in your neck of the woods, it's time you do your neighbors a favor and put some clothes back on. Re the gully washer......send it here. I see you had a Triumph Spitfire. That and the Austin Healy Sprite seemed to be the open air British cars of choice in my realm of acquaintance. Those with the money jumped on used Austin Healy 3000s, MGBs, and the higher numbered TRs. If I recall correctly, the Sprite couldn't hit 88mph but was fairly reliable. I learned to drive stick shift in a Sprite, British racing green of course. I think of all the times riding on the luggage shelf of a Sprite......no seatbelt of course. Do you still have the original motor for the 1960 MGA?
RT......I don't recall us issuing Laz a pass to drop off the Pot. This is going to require some stiff disciplinary action on our part. Perhaps he is in jail for fishing without a license or got cited for FUI, fishing under the influence. Worse, he could have pulled a Brent and be laid up in a hospital somewhere.
HudsonJohn.....are you driving to Colorado? Last time I was there it was winter, I was young and single, and was visiting a "friend." We embarked on a drive up to Aspen but got waylaid about half way up, and not by weather. at a bar after stopping for an early lunch.
Later gang.
Aloha all. Busy hot day here. I may have to come in tomorrow on my vacation to deal with some issues. Hope not as it is my annual take-the-teen-to-a-game visit with the White Sox. Nice company on the ride home last night after class: Sir J, Brutus, RT, Ole Timer and Charlie.Patio furniture from Sears holding up nicely, Jack. Haven't even lost the umbrella yet

Good Morning
Sun and 81, going into the 90s.
It's finally getting warm here, I had to take a shower, just had one on my birthday last month. Grass still has some green but starting to turn brown. I don't water it, to much $$ and it's just grass. It will turn green again when it rains. I'm having wabbit problems in the garden tried the chiefs hot mix, tried wabbit repellent but they still come. No I can't shot them we are inside city limits and its a huge fine to fire a gun. Have a great hump day.
Doug happy to get you home safe and sound....S.J.
Morning all. Hot and humid. Now Jack, I must take you to task on the hot air. Seems a high pressure is sitting over all of us. In a high, the air rotates in a clock wise direction. Since it is hotter up NAWTH than here and was before we got roasted, common sence says the hot air is rotating down from MA. Now on dogs. They chase deer, rabbits and squirrels. Burg is the only one home right now. He went out with me to send the culprit over the fence. Lucy can detect them while in the house. Burg is old and loves A/C.
Off to the lake house soon. Back Sunday or Monday.
Thanks for all of the prayers for Mom and the HS. Will tell you a story. Read morning devotional. Said give your worries and etc to God, He will take care of them. Said write them on a card and put them in your Bible, I wrote get HS for Rolesville [among other things, Mom and etc]. Two hours later the County Commissioner that was the "swing vote" called and pledged her support. Works.
Later
Jon and Demay.......5 inches of rain already this month in OK. More floods. Hope you are safe, sound, and dry. Prayers for the many in OK who can't catch a break. I can only imagine the hardship for them.
Jack--
Flash floods are now the problem as last night strong storms were the norm in NE IA and SC IA. Not far from our oldest son's home they received 7" of rain last night, they will arrive home this afternoon from New York and I sure hope everything is OK. I-35 in southern IA had several accident this AM as the water began to creep into some lanes, ugh.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.

hello guys, hope you all are ok. pat i liked your method of keeping critters out of your garden. in our garden we use railroad ties to raise it up off the ground and the neighbors cats to keep the critters away as well as a rabbit fence which i believe is 20 inches tall. seems to work ok. i guess those virginia critters are pretty persistent. it has been hot here also, 90's and humid. thank god for air conditioning. pat you have got to let us see a pic of your layout. please buddy? i wish i knew how to put pics on this or i would send more. that is why i change my avatar so much. it is the only way i know to share pics with you guys. chief how do you guys pay for schools there? all they do here is go after the property owners and they make the taxes sky-high. navyjack
Chief, congratulations on the new school. Your hard work paid off. Sounds like a population explosion on the deer. They love to hang around land with crops on it. Need more hunting in that area? I will send my deer hunting buddy back there. He went all the way from California to West Virginia one time for deer hunting and never saw one. Guy he went with said they were as thick as rats and rabbits back there. Only venison they got was out of a deep freezer from the brother in law who was the local game warden.
Back at dentist today again for denture inspection and temporary reline. Good for another three months then need new permanent reline.
Cool weather continues but high temps predicted for later in the week.
