Went to see the sights in Safford this afternoon and pick up some groceries and another prescription. Lot of traffic on the road today w/ the summer weekends and all.

I used to wear Wings all the time, but found that the leather uppers seemed to break down early on me. Granted I was working in the restaurant while in school and I'm not as good about oiling them. They are getting pricey though. I think I spent $200 on my last pair like 15 years ago. A lot of the standard work boots have two things I don't care for, the pointed toes and the logger heel. I've had a couple of Wolverine pairs the last few years. For the money they have held up well and I can get a lower heel, but most have the more pointed toes (so you can get the cockroaches in the corners I guess:)

Nice garden Chief!

Did add a heavier spring to the pilot of the 2026 last night. Worked well.

 Good Evening, Boys!

Helped out a bit on the Dream Cruise today, took plenty of pictures and videos, then attempted to go grocery shopping.  The Princess called with "alarming" news, the smoke detectors were all going off and a smell of smoke..and there was a big thunderstorm underway...searched the house and found 1 TV toasted and several computer systems done in, not to mention the cable box...

Got the Aspen over to the shop for the Alignment.  Got 5 gallons of fuel in it and started right up.  Shifted well, too.  Still has a punch in it, wish I could get those 3.55's in the rear.  Oh, yeah...the engine?  360 cid punched to 369 cid.  And John, tell 'em I'm going to install Magnum heads on it soon...Smile,Wink, & Grin.  The Daddy Wagon will live again...

Finally got home late, had a great talk with Mom & Dad. Just going over a few items and watching the Cup Finals...sorry Philly Phans...GO HAWKS!!!!

Starting to plan my next vacation July1-12 in Jersey!

I Had red wing boots, they were really good, just wore 'em flat out.

OK, we'll check back tomorrow!

Bob - they had a little feature on NPR the other night on the drive home about an engineer at a telescope.  He is in charge of adjusting the mirrors, so guess it's a different setup.  Very interesting!

Dennis, sounds like you are really making progress on that movie and causing a sensation, which is all good, bro!

Nice garden again this year, Chief!

Had a nice short talk with RT, now I"m chatting with SJ and Charlie - solving the problems of the world Smile

Shelves are done - wife wanted the prepainted Rubbermaid shelves, so she got what she wanted.  They were about 4 feet wide, so put up 3 sets of those and one set of 2 feet wide.  I bought some enamel paint to dab on the screw heads, but she said I didn't have to do it.  I might anyway - hate to waste $3, lol.

Tardis is ready to fly - grab your party stuff guys and bring some banilla, cause here we go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evenin' Ya'll,

Storms have passed.  Heavy rains and high winds have passed but no damage here.  Celtics/Lakers.....I'm having a heart attack.

DougM.......GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL.  Was he excited or what?  Black Hawks have this one in hand.

Dennis.....congrats on the little guy's report card and test scores.  You must be so proud.

Rich and John......hope the kids did well on their SATs.

Brent, Chuck, and Fifepup (in a few weeks)......a little Rocky music with that rehab will help.

JimT.....the SRX is back, looks better than the day I bought it.  Collision shop delivered again.

SJ......memories of the A&W stands.  Now THAT was root beer.  Root beer floats are my favorite.

MikeC.....we are worried about your sojourn South.  They don't adhere to the Geveva convention with prisoners.

Chief.....the porch is looking oh so good, but it is missing the single light bulb hanging down the ceiling Southerner's are so famous for.  Didn't see hammocks for the dogs either.

Later, gang.

Evenin' Guys & Gals.

Great day today, a tad warm, the munchkin and mommy were out today. Needless to say grampa is pooped, up early to get things underway for a nice dinner for all then PLAY time after he gets here.

With regards to the Chief's new accessory Roy did the really hard work. In Washington parlance I was just the "evil banker" taking advantage of people's labors. Laugh

Chief, Love that porch ! To me it is just begging for a nice "G" shelf track just above window and door height.

SAT's, thank goodness all of that is long over with. At least til the munchkin gets older. Whistling

A&W was ok, I always had a preference for Hires. At one time it could be found around here but haven't seen it for many years.

Later............

Jack,

Glad you finally got that fixed.  In my case, I still feel better that I fixed the damage myself.

Doug W.,

I think some company bought out Hires, but I'll have to research that.

Finally managed to score a clean 350 Royal Blue tonight on ebay.  Big Smile

Sunny and 80's this weekend.

Didn't seem like much productive got done this weekend - spent most of it catching up on errands we didn't get done during the week.

We did have a nice dinner Saturday night at the wine store here in town.  On the 1st Saturday of every month, they do a dinner featuring foods and wines of a certain region.  Saturday was Spain and Portugal.  7 course dinner with a different wine with every course.  The best item was figs wrapped in bacon, and stuffed with goat's cheese, olives & walnuts.

Finally got tomatoes and peppers planted today.  Yea, I know, I'm several weeks late getting this done, but life happens.

I pulled the trigger and put a Texas freight set and the matching expansion set on order Saturday at the LHC.  That about shoots the train budget for this year.

I think Hires is now part of 7 UP.  Also, A&W root beer is not the same as it was a long time ago.  Used to be that each stand would brew their own root beer using the secret company formula.  Now, I think it is mixed from syrup delivered in plastic bags.....

All for now.

Morning to all. Just stopping in for a quick splash of coffee before I head off to work. Weather here is beautiful with temps in the low 70's and low humidity. Last week of school for students and teachers. After they are gone I have 9 days of training in the next 4 weeks. No train activity to speak of lately. I blew my train budget on an iPad. Really a cool device. Well I better get going. Lots to do today. Hope to do some outside work, trimming bushes etc when I get home. For some reason I really hate trimming the shrubs. I have about 8 of them hat need a haircut so I might as well do it while the humidity and temps are reasonable. Take care. Mitch

 Hello all,

Haven't been in since all the beavers started appearing. Belated Happy B-Day Chief.

I'll try to catch up on the week end later.

Did any body else notice the lack of media attention to the D-Day anniversary?

Has any body heard from Navyjack?

Prayers for all who may need them

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Recovering Taxachusetts,

Lots of trees down and same with power lines, but I lucked out.  Cars crushed, homes and garages too.  Most in the neighboring towns to me.  Damage as far South as Boston and as far West as the Berkshires.  A mess.  Will take a day or two for this to dry out so the grass can be mowed.

Fishing line issues?  I thought you Southerners just threw sticks of dynamite in the water and scooped up the floaters.  Big Smile  What a game, Celtics prevail over the Lakers in the NBA finals.  Blackhawks are rolling again in the Stanley Cup finals..  Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Banks......Navyjack's pc died.  Around here they smooshed Memorial Day and the D-Day celebrations together.

Mitch.....re the prunning, I hear ya!  I do them once a year but not all at once.  The clean up and disposal is worse than the actual prunning.  Plus some of my stuff has gotten too tall to reach, even with a ladder and pole cutters.

8N......funny you should mention foods from Portugal.  Ten years ago we took one of those Chevy Chase summer vacation trips with the family to Portugal and all were watching the videos (w. sound) Saturday night.  What a hoot!

Laz.....counting the seconds?  Re the porch.....no cuts, breaks, or falls.......a good thing.  Red oak, my favorite.  We did our floors in that.

JimmyT......I kicked in an extra $120 while the collision guys had my car and had a little extra done to eliminate evidence of a wife's faux pas.  With backup sensors and lights, she still managed to back into something.  So I got that taken care of while the guys were working on the rear fascia.  They also managed to buff out a few imperfections to boot.

Ray and DougDG......Leonardo de McLellan, though rumor has it you don't do your best work lying on your back.  Da Grump (aka "the Doug"), your fertile mind always comes up with a great outcome.  THANKS!

Later gang.

Morning Coffee Potters - taking a personal day today.  I heard that too, Jack - that Navy's computer died?

Wife has had a rash for about 3 weeks now, mostly on her face.  They think it's an allergic reaction - she'll talk with a dermatologist today and they will do a biopsy to be sure.  Not sure when they will get that done, but soon we hope.

Aloha all. Sunny and cool here after the storms came through last night. Hosted our pastor and his bride for dinner last evening. Paid the teens to watch their kids. And just had enough gas in the tank to finish grilling. Whew. The teens even made it in time to watch the Hawks.

A BLT sounds like a great way to start the day, Sir J

Our local paper managed to track down some D-Day vets to recognize the day but as with anything it seems, time (and the individuals) passing seems to reduce these seminal events to history.

Good morning all, went to TTOS train meet yesterday.  Lots of PW trains and a little new stuff as well. Three layouts up and running and a special layout being run by a Boy Scout who was doing it for a project.  He was selling raffle tickets for the layout.  It was a very nice 4X8 layout with scenery, switches, accessories etc. Very nice.  It would be good to win it for my grandson.

Glad Chief got the new Beaver accessory in one piece and that he liked it.  Now I can stop sorting through all those E mails every day about the latest thing going on with Chief's birthday present. Just kidding!  It was a lot of fun.  Thanks to Dougdegrump, Dbaker and Roy for all the hard work.

Trying to figure out what's wrong with my lawn sprinkler/timer system.  I have just been turning it on manually because there is a parked car in the way sometimes.  The problem is that the water does not want to come on full force right away.  It just puts out a weak little trickle for a while.  After turning the timer on and off a few times it will finally work.  I have an instruction book on the thing but its too complicated.  Think I will call the 800 help number on the manual.

Still think Chief needs a swing on his new screened in porch.  I thought those were standard equipment in the South.  In the old days I used to sit on my Grandma's unscreened porch in a swing and we would ward off the mosquitos with burning rags in a can.

Got an E  mail from a friend about the bad language in the new Ice Road Truckers series.  He is a retired railroader.  He was just saying that if he used language like that on the radio he would have been fired.  I watched the show last night but it looked like old reruns to me.  That big guy that they call the polar bear is always kind of salty and acts like a jerk IMHO.  I like the crab fishing show better.  Those guys look like they earn their money in the Bearing Sea.

Hot weather this week.  Pool is warm enough now for swimming but I haven't been in yet.  My youngest son is due back from trip in the East tonight.  He went to Steamtown in Scranton Pennsylvania and The baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown among other things.

Later,

Ray

Ray,

I've watched Deadliest Catch, but I've never gotten interested in Ice Road Truckers.  I mainly watch Dirty Jobs, even after the salvage yard incident.Blindfold

I intended to go fishing today, but it has been getting cloudy every so often.  I sent the money order for the 350 earlier this afternoon.  I'd like to add smoke, but the cleanliness of this one makes me hesistant to drill a hole in the boiler.  I can live with forward only operation by not relocating the reversing unit and just removing it.  I really want smoke and chuff, but drilling the hole in the top of the boiler is something that I can't undo once it is done.

New child is at the Eagles' house.  A male that is 8 weeks old.  Big as his sister Lucy now.  His mom is a tall thin one.  He is a black Doodle.  His name is Fin.  [Black and curley hair.  Like Fin on Law and Order SVU]

He will probably be taller and thinner than Burg.

Good evening guys, got home early as did a couple of cases this morning then went to the set.  They are filming in the jail today and it was rather crowded.  Tomorrow we are filming at the church and on one of the streets in town.  It involves a father/son race so I will be bringing my son and being an 'extra'.

Regarding D-Day and the lack of coverage about it, I and one of the guys I work with were commenting on that earlier today.  My son and I watch a program on the "Military Channel" on D-Day plus one which was about the conditions our troops encountered after the landings.  It is a shame that we had to search out programs on it.  I must mention that our local paper has had a running section of local war heros from WWII.  We have COM winners (or better: Earners), and some flying aces, etc.  What is really neat is to know the history behind some notable campaigns and then to meet guys who were there.  I am not sure why the lack of programs or mention about it, but it is deplorable.

Hope each of you have a blessed night.
Dennis

PS: Congrats on the new child Chief!

Another evening collecting photons. The director and one of her students are with us as well.

I talked to NavyJack last night. His hard drive got corrupted and is too much to fix. Hopefully he can get back on line in the near future. We spent a while swapping old military stories, including some about dropping plumbing parts and logging chains from aircraft.

JimT- nice score on the 350! Did you see the photo of the two circus trains in the lastest CTT?

Chief - congrats on the new addition to the family!

Read something on line about them trying to stabilize the erosion of the cliffs the Rangers climbed at Normandy. Was impressed by the number of yearly visitors to the site, was in the hundreds of thousands.

Evening all!

Cute pics of the new pup Chief! Glad it is you and not me. Puppies and young dogs are cute until one finds the inside doors all scratched up and the carpet stinks regardless of how diligent one is.

I would like to relate the following about our dog Maggie. She is a Golden/Lab mutt. She is 8+ now and has turned a new path in life. She used to go nuts when a duck was in the pool or a squirrel was on the fence. However - Maggie has become:

THE DOG WHO STARES AT DUCKS

This developed this spring. In the past when a duck (or ducks) was in the pool, Maggie would whine, bark, and pace around the pool - and of course the duck (or ducks) would just causually swim to the far side from wherever Maggie was. This would go on for long periods of time - the ducks would just snub her.

Now when a duck lands in the pool, Maggie will go carefully out and then just stand and STARE at the duck or ducks. She does not move nor make a sound. The ducks cannot take this. No duck(s) has lasted more than 3-5 minutes with this new technique by Maggie. You will see the duck(s) get progressively more and more uncomfortable until they cannot stand it and then they take off in a flurry of wings and quacking commotion. It is hilarious to witness. Unfortunately I have not been able to capture this on video and now the migration for the spring is about over.

She does still bark at the squirrels but with far less enthusiasm/optimism than when she was younger (caught one once - brought the tail to my wife).

Regards, Roy

When did the Chief have a Birthday?  I must have been too busy celebrating St. Beaver day.  Oh, well there is next year.

BTW, we currently have a Hoosier south of the MD line and the Chief didn't even notice due to Beaver Day.

 Hello all,

Haven't been in much lately, finally got caught up this evening. Been busy trying to plant garden and make hay in between rain storms. Still need to back fill Dad's hole as well.

Spent most of Saturday upgrading the rear wheel on the KTM to a wide rim. Had to fabricate a new bracket to support the chain guide. We put a new knobby on a wide rim Son used for drag racing. He hasn't dragged his KTM for a couple of years so we decided to put the wide rim to use on the Hill climb bike. It helped a lot but neither of us could put a good ride together in all the mud on the hill yesterday

Not much time for trains

Chief, congrats on the Beaver Accessory and the new puppy.

Bob, Thanks for the update on Navyjack. I knew his PC died and was hoping some one had been in touch with him.

Probe, any job prospects yet?

June 19th I'll be waving to all you in the Baltimore area as I travel RT 32 on the way to the beach, can't wait.

Gonna join my lovely Mrs. in bed. 5:00 AM will come too soon

Prayers for all who may need them

Banks,

No calls yet but I keep applying to as many places as I can find.

Bob,

I haven't read an issue of CTT since my subscription lapsed in 2008.  The only place I can buy it is the LHS, but that is a 45 minute drive, and I am not particularly fond of the new owner.  I think Phish is looking for one of those 353 circus locos.

Chief--

Nice looking pup!  Would like to have another best friend but with the ability to travel now it just wouldn't be fair to board a friend so much.  It's been six years since I held my good buddy and said good bye, sure miss him.

Well, the party is over ... thank goodness.  The boss comes home tomorrow afternoon after 18 days of being in the Scandinavian countries, sure good to hear her voice tonight after she landed in MPLS.  At our sons home tonight and will be here early tomorrow afternoon, I sure missed her but I also know that this time with her 3 sisters was a very special time that cannot be replicated.   It was also special that I could be on the road with our youngest son for 6 six days, even if it was going south .........  Buckeye--checked with the dentist and he said my teeth would OK if I only had sweet tea once but any more than once would create serious problems, whew .... dodged a bullet there.

Almost time for bed, need to get up extra early tomorrow to do one final spiffing up of the house plus get roses for the return party Thumbs Up

Jon

So many roads, so little time.

Evening all

Really nice out.  All the windows  are open and the cool breeze is coming in.  Cut grass, did some tree trimming nad roto tilled the garden.

Bob - The 353's are really neat!  I almost bid on a circus set on the bay, but I had just got a 357 Ruger GP100 in stainless so there went the train fund!  One of these days I'll get one.  I'm patient.  I have in mind when the layout gets built to have the Circus Train next to the bigtop circus tent set I have.  It would be really cool.

Chief - Nice looking pup!

Good night and may God bless

Jim
