It’s THURSDAY!!!
Congas to all the HAWKS fans....Johnny Madden (#11 & Devils Alumni) Gets a 3rd ring and the drought is over...
Its 71 and nice, good ride to work on the HOG, up to 93 today and more uncomfortable as the day goes on....
OldTimer, Jacksonville has high crime, over run with construction and traffic and waaaay too hot for my tastes, especially if you work outside like I do. If I was in Orlando or Tampa, it might be a different story, but just not happy here. My family is still back in New Jersey and even after 17 years here , this will never be “home”.
Ran trains for about 5 minutes this morning, needed the distraction. Spent 12 hours here at work yesterday and Monday and its getting old real fast.....and no lunch break. Looks like Saturday I’ll be here just to catch up.
Harley’s Million Mile Monday is coming up on the 28th and looks like I’ll be on a ride to South Carolina...hope the bike makes it...
OK< we’ll check back later!
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
i must be a good boy. biscuits and gravy for breakfast and a new computer yesterday. also wife bought me some new tools that i wanted(now if i could only use them).found a guy who will take down dead pine tree for $125.00. life is good today. jack you have always got a great attitude. i wish i knew your secret. chief if you ever are done hunting beavers there are plenty of woodchucks here also. we have learned to coexist with them. (cant shoot within 200 feet of a house). yankee sheriff is watching us. had a quiet memorial day. a friend wore his old marine corps dress blues and marched in a memorial day parade. hope that pat is ok, bet you are real busy. submmbob was great to talk to you, seems voice wears out before things to say. god bless all firemen. as i said before, in my opinion i think they are the real heros. jim thanks for all the insight. you are a great friend. rt keep the watch there. mr. banks, bet you are busy also. god bless all. navyjack
p.s. ctt magazine was great and helped keep my sanity while no computer.
Good morning all,
It is somewhat cloudy in an undisclosed location in the South. This may be the last report for a few days as Reb forces are closing in on my location. May have to make a strategic move. Having a good time here. Went to Longhorn Steak House last night for a good dinner. Training is going well with few surprises. Had bacon and english muffins on the dining car. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Mornin' Fellas.Got two doses of bad news yesterday. Found out the A/C in the BMW is going to set me back $2,500. Seems it needs a new evaporator... well that isn't happening, so looking for a new car now. UGH. Then I get a call from my Mom that my Great Aunt passed away Tuesday night. This was a blow because she was the last family member that spoke PA Dutch, so that part of the family tree is now gone. Really disappointing because I was hoping to expose our children to that part of their heritage. Then The Flyers lost in the Stanley Cup Finals...
Brent,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Great Aunt. I am suprised the Flyers lost, you'd think Eddie...never mind, I won't go there.
I spent last night applying for positions with a local power company, and I've got a good feeling about this one. I also removed conversion knuckle couplers from an AF 625 Shell tank car and installed the proper link couplers. The Royal Blue should be here tomorrow or Saturday, so I dug through my boxes looking for a chasis. I was going to use a 312 chasis, but it has a chipped whitewall. So, I'll swap it with the chasis from the Hudson that I've slowly been restoring.
I still haven't driven the PGT because I am too nervous that something else will happen. I'd also like to track down the lady who was the the original owner, but I am not sure how to do that. Anyone have any suggestions?
Anjdevil ... thanks for the heads up on jacksonville ... wife could transfer there from citicorp here but I don't think so since reading your post . Yes DeBary area is alot different ... more like country out of the tourist - traffic area .... huge trees along the streets and super clean and quiet ... but close to everything when you want it ... beautiful . Did you ever think of a sprocket change on the sporty to bring those rpm's down .... works good usually .
NAVYJACK ... I love Windows 7 too .... make sure you let it update all the updates when you're not useing the laptop . As you know I spent some time in Illinois ... training ... but oh man the weather there !! Beating thick ice off of a ship or everything else with a sledge hammer in below zero temps was'nt my idea of winter fun though ... LOL . Just one of those " fond ? " memories of illinois ... ... of course the Chicago girls made up for it ... WOW ... they had their own special way of warming a cold sailor up ....
DON ... if there's a truck stop anywhere near .. cb's out the bazoo for sale .
Brent ... was any of your family from the lancaster area ? PA dutch ? Many of them up there ... my sis and bro in law live there .
Sunny .... but nice and cool this morning .... and the humidity dropped from that smothering 90% down alot . Got a fabulous deal on some earthen bumpers at extremely reduced shipping on ebay ... when they arrive I can start the scrap yard piece for the layout . Wife threw away my sifter I made for dirt on the layout .. she said it looked like an old beat up window screen and off to the dump it went ... I guess it did so I can't say much .
PROBE .... would a carfax report on it tell you all that ... and maybe more ?
Wes,
When I got a Carfax on the sunfire, it just gave the city and state where it had been registered. It didn't give any names. All I know about the lady who originally had the PGT is that she got rid of it in late 2000-early 2001 because she was getting married and didn't need to have it around any longer. I found her picture when I had the glove compartment out, but that won't help.
Morning. Hot and humid. TW Cable guy just left. Had to do a little adjusting but running HD and it is great. Thye have rearranged the channels and it is a zoo. Actually make smore sense that it did in the past. Just got to learn them all over again.
Running soaker hoses a little to "freshen" up garden. Going to mow now. Finn is sleeping as he and Lucy had a big romp this AM. Burg is doing better with him.
Got to go to Raleigh for HS graduation this afternoon.
Took shell off of the "worrisum" MTH diesel. Nothing aloose as I could find. Will now find engine and etc. Will not start up. Will try Barry's recomendations next.
Brent, sorry on both cases.
Navy Jack, welcome back. Missed you.
Mike C., we have had you surrounded the whole time after you crossed the M&D.
Roy M, watering your foundation yet? Yes, Texicans have to water their foundations when it gets dry there.
Later.

Headed down today. Spent some time working on some problems in the system w/ one of the engineers yesterday. Supported the economy and Clark's Corvair Parts in Mass again. Had the carbs soaking in the solvent tank overnight. Need to blow them out and take a shower so I don't smell like paint thinner on the way home.
Chief - saw a video about the NC Trans Museum in Spencer. Will have to make that trip some day. The roundhouse is awesome!
Brent - sorry to hear about the loss of your aunt.
NavyJack - glad to hear you're back on the air!
Well off to get some things done.

Good Mornin' Ya'll from Cool and Rainy Taxachusetts,
Been busy attending 6 y/o granddaughter's end of the school year functions for the first graders.....one Tuesday night and another yesterday afternoon. Parental attendance at the latter was dismal at best.....middle of the day, and most had to be at work. Both my daughter and SIL took the time off from work. Dined afterwards up in Gloucester MA at a restaurant on the salt marshes. Seafood!
Observation of the day: over the counter bug and tar remover for cars is still too labor intensive a product. If anyone has some suggestions for easy removal I am all ears. This year the bug population has exploded, and it is only going to get worse. Have used gasoline in the past, very small sections at a time, and rinsing immediately with cold water. No damage to the paint. May try that again.
Second observation of the day: why is it the wife insists on selecting the one parking spot at work right under a tree? Between the sap and the bird droppings, the car looks horrible......black to boot. Took my car and expects hers to be straightened out.
Brent.....sorry to hear about the passing of your Great Aunt. Prayers for her. Are you sure you want to take a pass on the Beemer evaporator coil repair? $2,500 may seem like a ton of dough, but overall it may be cheaper than most of the vehicle replacement alternatives, unless you need something fresher. I seem to recall you had a/c problems with this car some time back. No?
SJ......re your wife's numerous pit stops before leaving the house on a trip. My wife has been this way for 3 decades, and it gets worse once we hit the road. I thought it might be my driving that sets off this chain of events, but it isn't. The thought of the trip triggers the onset and she perpetuates it by drinking enough fluid before and during to cause kidney and bladder shut-down in any normal human. One can hardly sneak in a nap while she is driving because of the stops. Three hours is her limit, and only when it is pitch black outside and she is asleep.
DougM..... victory in OT, and the 49 year Stanly Cup drought is over for the Chicago Black Hawks!!! The Flyers didn't go quietly into the night. Congratulations to you and me. Love it, particularly because of the aggravation it causes Brent and Rich who are both in need of some.
Dennis.....I don't recall you ever finished mowing the hay lawn. You need headlights on the tractor.
8N......love the avatar. I need to locate and do the same with one of my old photos. After a series of storms, we had a 34 inch single storm snowfall about 14 years ago with drifting out the ying yang. Looked like a scene out of Dr. Zhivago. I got "before shovelling/snowblowing" and "after" shots. In the before shots you could not tell there were cars in the driveway. In the after, the mounds on the sides of the driveway were 7+ feet tall.
Roy.....you just reminded me, I need to do a gutter check. But I already have a photo of Brent taped to my ladder as a safety reminder.
MikeC......hope you don't start typing with a Southern drawl. Sounds like the Barney Fife disguise is filling the bill and you are blending right in. Lay low.
Rich......I didn't know you wanted a heavier road bike, thought this HD was more suitable for your daily rides.
Bob.....how are the skunks doing up in the rarified climes of your "office?" Hope it is breeding season.
Don.....prayers for your FIL's continued great recovery progress. Your photos with Chris from the Las Vegas road trip were a great teaser. What we want to know is, where are the really good ones? Your El Camino up my way would be as rare as a right whale......lucky to see one on the road once a year.
Chief.....sorry for boring you with my with all of the "puppy advice." Sounds like you are well out in front of this one. I think things will continue to go smoothly for Burg and Finn. We always mixed the sexes, but with three dogs that is not possible. We had an adopted male Doberman, 32 inches at the withers and 135 pounds. He became the Mom when we adopted an 11 week old 18 pound female Doberman.....got photos of her hanging clear off the ground from his neck by those razor sharp puppy teeth. They were like two peas in a pod. Miss those dogs.
JimmyT......I haven't a clue how you could track down the previous owners on your PGT. DMV would have the records if you know someone on the inside.
Ole Timer......25 years ago the wife and I thought long and hard about a beachfront condo in Ft. Myers Beach, beachfront as in the sand ran right up to the building. 30 unit six story building with a deck overlooking the gulf. Took a pass. Bad move in retrospect. Overall, the FLA weather is too warm and humid for our liking.
Chuck......my doc has me on 64 oz. of water a day. Beer doesn't count.
Charlie......don't spill the beans about SJ's endearing comment about missing his wife. He can still plans to teach her how to cut the lawn when she gets back.
NAVYJACK.....somehow I can't see my kids springing for a laptop for me. You must be doing something I am not. I need advice on this front. I did get a Red Sox spring training jacket once.
Brutus....hope the rash is under control and all systems are still a go. Do you think a return to work is in the cards for your wife later this summer? Prayers continue.
Mitch.....I forgot to pass kudos on to you for another successful school year completed. I hope the kids appreciate the HVAC works and the roof doesn't leak because of your tireless project management.
RaySP.....so you have voyeur squirrels. Does it make you feel uncomfortable when they watch you skinny dipping?
RT.....I agree with you about the better places to live to avoid the temperature extremes. These extremes sometimes make me appreciate the full four season weather we enjoy up my way. Sometimes you have to take the good (9 months of good weather) with the bad (3 months of snow, ice, and cold). Even the 3 months isn't all that bad to tolerate.
Fife.....I wonder if perhaps Laz can take that rusty old sawblade and turn it into a perpetual travelling plaque amongst forum members: "The Brent 88 Handyman Snafu of the Year Award." On the other hand, Brent would probably win it far too often; and the plaque would stay put for long stretches.
Later, Gang.

RockIsland52RaySP.....so you have voyeur squirrels. Does it make you feel uncomfortable when they watch you skinny dipping
Don't do skinny dipping. Don't want to scare the animals.
Don, the pool was 82 that day but mine has a vinyl liner. Maybe they warm up faster than a gunite pool.
Chief, sounds like dogs are getting along pretty good. Wise old cat too. I think he found a home.
Navyjack, glad you got a new computer. I was worried about you for a while knowing how much you like to post on the forum.
Election day yesterday. Now the race is on between Former Gov. Brown and Meg Whitman. California is a mess. It will be hard for whoever wins. The govenator took his shot but didn't have much luck either. Not holding my breath.
Game 4 Lakers vs Celtics tonight. Got to see game 3 on giant screen TV. Had to turn down an offer for used TV set because it was bigger than my house. Wish I could have used it.
Dbaker, did you go to the Big Train Show in Ontario? I went to TTOS instead but saw some photos this morning from the other show. Looked like LGB mostly. Prayers for your FIL.
Laz57, Good on you for Golden Hammer awards. Have a nice summer.
later,

My wife had cataract surgery #1 on June 7. Took 10 min. and went well. Her biggest complaint was having an appointment for 9:05 (that's right - 9:05) and didn't get in to the doctor until 10:30! Didn't use to be that way at any doctors office, or dentist's for that matter.

Hi All,
Monday, I had the unforunate privlege to ttent the funeral Mass for Lance Cpl. Anthony DiLisio USMC. The church seated one thousand and there was standing room only. Not a dry eye there. Even his leader who gave the eulogy had to pause many times. Also, God bless the PATROIT GUARD. His girlfriend (and future fiance) mentioned that the last text she sent him was that she loved him. I'm sure you remember to do this with your family.
On a lighter note:
NavyJack: Welcome back !!
Jim: Check out BAE (British Aerospace) http://www.baesystems.com/ They have a facility in York. Remember to use the key words they have in their wants in your resume. I've have been laid off for almost one year and did it, BUT they figure out that I am an old fart. You wouldn't have that problem.
All Black Hawk fans: CONGRATS!!
Prayers for all ! Especially for those "IN HARMS WAY"
Good Eveniing
Yep Pat your right, be here at this time and wait. I have to have her there tomorrow an hour before the scope that I understand, prep is involved. An yes they told us the cataract surgery takes about 15 minutes. Again how long do we wait and wait. Old sucks June and july is dotted with one kind of doc appointment or other.
Banilla will be ready....S.J.

I'm not permitted to play with power tools, nor climb ladders... so I have to leave the gruesome injuries to you fellas now.---Last week I had negative 15 degree radial movement below my elbow. Tonight I had positive 55!
Partly cloudy and 80's here today.
Brent - sorry to hear of your great aunt's passing.
RI52 - We took that picture two years ago at Christmas. That is the house I grew up in.
All for now.
Good night all. Been reclinerizing. Then Finn woke me up [not Lucy]. He's been "out" and now in the mudroom asleep. Off to bed.
Bob, welcome to come to NC anytime. Got Mike C. coming Monday. I'll feed him some seafood and sweet ice tea [might slip in some grits].
Back down from the hill. Going to go to the boot store I've used before tomorrow and see what I can find. Corvair work will continue as well.
Chief - I may very well take you up on that some day!
Jack - no skunks as of yet and there is still a few patches of snow lurking around (someone had asked about that).
So when I got back tonight I took a look at the new track plan. Turns out I have exactly the right amount of switches for the new plan so I think it is meant to be. The KW should be able to handle the two loops and the LW the switches. Given the fact that I'm spending so much on car parts now, I think it is best just to set up what I have anyway.
With a little luck, videos of the Corvair engine starting and two trains running by Monday night!
Morning all you gentlemen and Buckeye. TGIF?????? What does that mean. When you are retired, everyday is Saturday. When you are Mayor, everyday is MONDAY.
Up early. Had planned to sleep past 8 AM. Not pup related but was arroused at 5:10. After being up a while, you just stay up. Got to hit the road to Raleigh for a meeting later. May go early and go by Overton's and see about dock ladders and console for pontoon boat. [what to redo console as the old one is getting in bad shape]
May watch a movie and I bet I dose off. I guess walk club is out now school is out.
Off to the lake house with Lucy and Finn later. Pam coming up later with Burg.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 70 degrees. Going up to 82 today with a slight chance of rain, later. Hope not.
Today is a busy day. I have some errands to run this morning. Then, I have PT at 11:30. After that, I will relax.
I enjoyed watching the Indians beat the Red Sox last night. That was twice in the 4 games. Maybe they are coming alive.
Buckeye...TGIF
Dining car is here and it's the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Friday.

good morning guys, hope that everyone is well. weather here is hot, going up to 88 today and humid. hope the air conditioner works well.
figured out how to use google earth. looked at property and it is not as detailed as i thought. cant see the claymores in the trees...ha.ha. governor rod trial is big news here. he was told to shut up, he is making a fool out of himself. had a baby woodchuck come right up to the window and look at me. they look like a beaver with a shorter and rounder tail. have a big skunk that comes around also. he is harmless though and shows curiosity when wife is gardening. kind of funny. looked at lots of cool trains on ebay. navyjack
lionroar88 ChiefEagles Off to the lake house with Lucy and Finn later. Pam coming up later with Burg. What? You're travelling with the youngsters and Pam gets the old geezer? You trying to tell her something?
Yes and got ladder work to do there. Will try to be a little more "safe" than a certain person I know.
Aloha from a muggy Chicago where the humidity is exceeded only by the clue-less-ness of the hockey fans in the Loop for the big victory parade. What moron scheduled it for the middle of the am and its route crossing every major downtown artery. The Bulls did it better having it in Grant Park. Ah well. Maybe I'll just the hordes out there. NavyJack, the former gov'nor's trial is just a block away. Haven't seen so many cameras and satellite trucks since... the last governor's trial.

Good Morning,
From sunny south Florida, it is extremely hot down here, 94 a couple of days and feels like 110 in the sun. I was on I-95 the other day driving and my car's outside temp gage had 101 on it while driving at 65mph.
Southeast Florida, a.k.a. foreclosure capital! Sorry to say but I might be moving by the end of the summer, downsizing as it were, because we can't afford our mortgage on our current house. My wife just got told that she is losing at least 5 hours, maybe 10 hours depending on budget, a week at her job. Also applied with NACA, the homesave program, but there is NO garantee that the lendor must abide by NACA's decision.
I have seen many "for sale" signs down here in Palm Beach county FL, some even have foreclosure posted on them. Here in south FL jobs are being cut by almost 10% a week, either cut your hours or cut your position completely! Also for November NASA will be laying off about 500 people as the shuttle program dies. Most places are cutting back.
I went to the doctor about two weeks ago and found out that I have a hernia and may need surgery. I could be out of work for a month or so, and that will add to our financial problems.
Not much train purchasing going on, bought a few pieces of H.O. track to work on my small H.O. layout, also bought a used Lionel hopper at the local hobby store for $10.00. That will be my summer buying spree for the year.
Lee F.
Hot and Humid here. Out yesterday digging a hole 36"W X 24"D to plant a large magnolia tree. Got a little woosie, so I sat under the apple tree for awhile. After I regained my senses, I enjoyed sitting under the apple tree, shade and cool breeze blowing. "Sitting under the apple tree, with no body but me" (Take off on the WWII song.)
Unloading hay today, calfs to market Monday. Smoking time on the deck this weekend (meat, not you know what!)
Running trains? I think I remember something like that. Been awhile.
