Morning Guys!

It's my Friday...!!!  Have to finish end of month/end of fiscal year stuff, then pack up and head north!!

The Princess is coming with me this time, to spend some time with the family.  We're going to NYC on Saturday and going to her GodFather's house for 4th of July activities with the rest of the family.

I'll see my GodDaughter while there!  3 trips to Jersey in 3 months....this is nuts!!!

Things have been relativly calm at the house, and 11 days away will make it even better...I need sometime out...

Not much on the train things, have had no money or time, it seems, that may change while I'm up there, I'd really like to go to the Big Little Train Shop in Somerville.  No plans for any train rides, other than going to NYC.

Angel for Lady J, and anyone else I've missed.

Congas on yer anniversary and the Mrs Birthday RT!

OK, I'll try to check back later...and after I get back HOME!!

Rich

Low 80's and sunny today.

Chief - The Kong dog toy is a good one.  The one we have for our dog has been around for about 10 years - those things are indestructable.  It is his favorite toy - he carries it everywhere.  When we are packing the car for a trip, he waits by the door with the Kong in his mouth.  As if to say "I'm packed & ready to go too."

SJ - good news that your wife's surgery went well.

Yesterday actually went better at work than I expcted.  Out in time to watch the 410 sprint cars last night.

Turns out we have a pair of VP's here from corporate, along with the consulting group.  Some re-vamped hourly policies were presented today.  Some make sense, others are going to hack people off.  Other changes are afoot too - rumors and partial conversations I've heard lately.  July should be entertaining.

Just remember - the fact that the neighbors grass is greener than yours is a function of vewing angle.  When you actually go into the neighbor's lawn and look straight down on it, you will discover that they probably have the same collection of weeds that are in your lawn.  Companies are like that too.  What looks better than yours from the outside, probably is the same when viewed from the inside.

Man am I cheap.  I am not willing to pay what most of the 200 series Lionel Alcos are going for on e-bay.

All for now.

Evening all.  Busy day.  Animal Shelter ribbon cutting and then live radio interview.  Took Finn for his first vet visit since he has been here.  Watered garden with soaker hoses as got only .15 inches of rain [suppose rain off and on all day].  Picked about a 5 gallon bucket of tomatoes.  Was going to lake house but will now go tomorrow.  Taking Finn and Lucy.  Some neat new shows on TV for the summer,  Waiting for the new Tom Selleck police show to start.  Glad to see Buckeye is back and at work.  My SS is due the 10th. Whistling  Resting now.

Good evening everyone.  Kids violin lessons cancelled as teacher was ill.  Still made them practice....no complaints either.  Sorry to hear about Randal Cunningham's son and also about the two PD officers in Tampa.  Regarding the defense conversation:  Here in GA, if you feel your life is in danger, you can defend yourself with lethal force.  We had a case locally where a drunken college student tried breaking down a door to enter a house.  Elderly owner fired through the door and killed him.  It was after midnight.

Regarding the shelf life of ammo, it comes down to exposure.  If it is sealed in a propper container, should outlast any of us.  I have some 8mm ammo from 1910 that is still good.  Another issue is the conditions when the ammo was first loaded.  If primers were dry and Powder was kept in low humidity prior to loading, that too will make it last.  If not kept in air tight container and dry, all bets are off.  One last thing, some military ammo was laquered to keep it sealed.  While this may keep the powder dry, you should give a good scrubbing to your barrel.  Lastly, you should be very familiar with your weapon.  At least once per year, you should take it out and fire it.  Also, use the ammo that is in the clip, don't keep taking the same rounds out to fire target ammo at the range and put the same bullets back into the weapon when stored for protection.   If you have young children, or even grand children who come into your house, you should have a gun safe such as a under the bed, quick access type that will keep young hands from getting to it, yet allow quick access when you need it.  The most disturbing thing for me is when folks say "I keep the gun locked in the closet and the bullets locked in a drawer".  Like you are really going to have time to get the two together to shoot the bad guy.

Dennis

Howdy guys - a little warmer than advertised today, but not bad at all.  Char picked up the new keypad from Sears and it was a snap to install it.  Also, since I had the ladder out, I replaced the lightbulbs in the garage.  Right now I'm backing up my old Dell desktop computer to a WD My Book drive.  It's about half-way through.  I've never done this and will be interested to see what the backup looks like - is it a copy of the drive or be CAB files or ZIP type files?  I hope it's just a mirror of the drive so I can pick and choose what I then back up to our laptops.  I'm giving the old desktop away and we will just have laptops, at least for a while -- how weird!  I figured out the other day that I had only started up the desktop about 3 times in the past 12 months to use it, although I did start it up every few weeks so it could update windows and the security stuff.  My sister wants it more than I do, so away it will go this Saturday I think.

Glad Lady J (Sir J's bride) is doing well and hope she is back to normal tomorrow!

Good deal on the car and A unit, RT Thumbs Up

Mike - it was a sad moment last night as we hovered over that tragic scene.  I sure hope they can repair the bridge as soon as possible.

Fueling is almost done and I talked with SJ earlier and he assured me he has banilla, so away we go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Spoke with Ray earlier in the day, he was having difficulty with the his printer.  (It wouldn't print anything, I suggested he put some paper in it and it seemed to begin working.)

Don't let him kid you.  It was an ink cartridge problem and Don solved it.  Thanks a million Don!

Met some new potential neighbors today who have a bid on the house next door.  Very nice people and I would be happy if they get it.  They have two small boys so I might get a chance to make model railroaders out of them eventually.  I;m sure they will be over to look at the layout someday.  The Dad is a firefighter in Orange County and I think Mom was a school teacher.

SIL e mailed that she is in Green Bay now for visit with her daughter.  My brother stayed at home to go tarpon fishings in the Cheasapeake Bay area account of the short season and will rejoin her later.

Speaking of fish, had some fresh red snapper yesterday cooked on the bar-b-que grill.  Yum yum!

Went to doctor today for check up.  Main problem is need to loose a few pounds plus I still have a shortage of vitamin B12.  Got a shot of it and have to return once a month for more for next three months plus take B12 vitamin pills.  It's always something!  Of course it could have been a lot worse.  Not complaining.  Also saw the dentist for partial relining and trying to correct sore spot in mouth.  Have to go back for another inspection next week.  Enough already with the medical stuff.  Need to do some fun stuff soon.

Ray

Banks/RockIsland - Boat is just sitting there, waiting for me.  Unfortunatley, life forces me in other directions.

As far as the self defense discussion, I'll offer this... Those who are priviledged to have armed security provided to them 24/7, should not be making decisions for those that don't. My 2 cents

Hello all, finally caught up.

I see I missed a few things while I was away.

On the subject of cars. My first was a ’65 GMC pickup. A hand me down from Dad on HS graduation. It had an inline six and three on the tree. It was pretty well rusted. A friends Dad showed me how and I did new rocker panels, cab corners and repaired both fenders where they bolted to the bed.(it was a step-side) My next vehicle was a ’70 El Camino. Still have it. It has a 307 with a Torque Glide behind it. It was the only vehicle Mrs and I had till Daughter was born. Bought a ’67 Impala four door that was really shot. I put sheet metal on the floor to keep from going through. Saved some money and got a ’72 Nova. It had a 350 and four speed and would go like He**.

In PA to shoot someone in your house you have to be in “Imminent Danger” with no where to retreat to. (if he didn’t have a gun he’d better have when the Police arrive) They are trying to change that though.

Trip to the beach was nice. Didn’t make it to the train show in Rehoboth. After stopping to eat near Bridgeville Delaware the car wouldn’t start. Had it towed to the nearest Chevy dealer. $1,100.00 and two days later I got it back. It needed a new fuel pump. What upsets me is I had it replaced two years ago for less than $400.00. The good part is as we were watching our car being unloaded from the truck a sales lady asked if we were broke down. We asked if she could help us find a car rental place. The one AAA had referred us to was 1 ½ hours away. As she made a phone call while we stood around her desk the Manager inquired what’s up. Then offered us a vehicle till ours was fixed. That was the bright spot of the whole incident.

Please keep that winter weather you’re talking about in Roseyville. I had enough snow last winter.

Since it’s so hot please try firing that snowgun my way now. We really need some rain. I’m going to have to start chopping grass for the cow. The pasture isn’t keeping up.

On the train front, I won a Lionel HO operating milk car on Ebay.

Fife, I’ll check for you on the bay when we go again the last week of July.

Chief, How’s Mom

Prayers for all who may need them

Pat.....I can just picture what would happen if I drilled an intruder in my house.  My wife would be picking out new carpeting, draperies, and paint colors to mitigate the blood splatter before the police arrived.

Brent......the one in the head significantly reduces the amount of "self defens" discussion over what happened.

Actually a couple months ago I was shaken awake by The Q 'I hear someone in the house!' 'Um... Ah... OK...' 'Go get the shotgun, don't load it, just the sound of you cauking it will scare them off' 'Um... Ah... OK...' I go get the shotgun and we are heading into the hallway. Me 'Hey if someone is in the house you better leave now' (sound of cauking shotgun) The Q 'OH that is real intimidating. You don't even have it loaded!' Banged Head

Good Afternoon Ya'll From Clear and 70s Taxachusetts,

Windows are likewise open here.  I'm spending far too much time watering the wife's annual flowers, then get aggravated.....critters seem to be snacking on them.  I broke down and started watering the lawn as the wife wants ours to be as green as the neighbors'.  We still need rain!

SJ.......glad to hear all went well with Granny's procedure.  Since she is sleeping, that makes you chef for the day......or you could do some White Castles and beer, banilla for dessert.

Dennis......congratulations on the little one's :anniversary."  You are blessed.  I wouldn't be as worried  about the $1,000 exposure with the a/c warranty repair as I would about the consequences should you get caught by the better half with no a/c when the temps climb.

Chief.....the puppy jumping on and off the bed at Finn's age is a leg break waiting to happen, despite how large he seems relative to the height.  You need to get some Kongs for the dogs to chew on.  Relatively indestructible and you can stuff them with kibble or peanut butter.  The dogs will chew on them and work to get the yummies for hours.  They are expensive on the front end but last a long time....in fact, have yet to replace any.  Better than Finn chewing on something like rugs, carpets, cabinets, chairs.....or your trains!  Shock

DougDG.....you must post pictures of you and your wife wearing Halloween masks on your anniversary.  Sounds interesting!  Whistling

Don.....I am trying to help out a friend get back into the hobby, but his wife seems adamant it won't be at the expense of any room in their basement which they are redoing, the first floor, or the second floor.  She actually suggested he have at it in the attic!

Chuck......you don't fool any of us with your "At the fitness center I don't have a personal trainer at my disposal" comment.  You probably have many volunteers you cannot mention.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

Fife....no mention of sailing.  What's with that?  I can't wait until you weigh in on the self defense discussion!

Pat.....I can just picture what would happen if I drilled an intruder in my house.  My wife would be picking out new carpeting, draperies, and paint colors to mitigate the blood splatter before the police arrived.

Brent......the one in the head significantly reduces the amount of "self defense" discussion over what happened.

Buckeye......sounds like this is turning out to be an exceptional and memorable vacation for you.  I wish my wife was involved in my train stuff like Jon's wife.  She has zero interest.  Did Jon give you any advice on which road bike to buy?

Navyjack.......you pose an interesting thought.  I wonder how many years ammo is viable and dependable.  Must be over 10 if stored correctly.

Roy.......if you are still with us and have not yet departed, who waters your foundation and montors wild pool parties in your absence?

HudsonJohn.....too many of the beaches up my way are either "semi-private" for a town's residents or have inadequate parking.  And the larger ones charge for parking!

JimSP........you must be getting close to your camping trip departure date.  The kiddies must be thrilled.

DougM......does this Supreme Court ruling mean you will be packing during your commute or during your lunchtime downtown Chicago walks? Laugh

Later, gang.

Jack

Good afternoon everyone.  Early day, so dropped off paperwork with the AC folks and then come home to spend some time with the kids.  Have Violin practice tonight, so I hope to get done early and come home for rest.

For those who are thinking about a trip where they need either a passport and/or Visa, you may want to get your paperwork in as the fees go up by quite a bit starting on July 13th.

Chief, when we got our dog, we were told that he would not grow any bigger......wrong!  He has gotten bigger in both size and weight.  He can easily knock any one of our family down.  He is also big enough to jump on the bed.

Lunch Time, it is a beautiful day in Central Jersey, Temps are in the high 70's with low humidity.

S.J.: Glad to hear that Granny's surgery went well. Speedy recovery.

Pat: You have a great SIL who does the right thing. I see that a lot of us have the same views on protecting ourselves and family.

Fife: You had to discover the Bark-Bot that we sent to the Chief's. We are trying to get the secret recipe for sweet tea and make it a northern drink.  Well lets see you add sugar to a jar then add a  hot water to meld sugar so it desolves then put in tea bags now the important part pour mixture after ready over ice do not add ice to mixture or it can be come cloudy The sugar part has to do with taste but normally about 2-3 teaspoons per glass but can be more or probably less for you nawthrens that haven't come and lived here in the south for a while and got use to the good tea as I'm told as I'm acually not a tea toter lolBig Smile

Dennis: Good luck with the A/C.

Buckeye: Sounds like a great trip, Enjoy It!!

Black Diamond: Good Luck with the business and layout.

Rock Island 52, Jack, I am familar with your beach access. It almost mirrors ours.

Back to work,

Good morning from the Wild, Wild West!!!!  It is hot!!!  Took a ride on the old steam train yesterday and saw the monument at night.  The tunnels through the granite are great, especially honking the horn and scaring the "Smart Cars" out of the way.  This is where the buffalo now roam on the ground where the dinosaur's vanquished.  Kevin danced with the wolves just to the east.   The bikes are numerous and create thunder through the mountain passes.

Great visit with Iowa Jon and his beautiful wife who can really cook an Iowa supper and breakfast.  Jon's and Sheyrl's  layout should be in CTT.  It is a great layout.  Sheyrl, the artist of the family, should do a a "how to do it" article on the 3D backdrop.  It is not like the regular old junk that most of us make.  (Jon does need a bigger snow plow for his road.  A D10 Cat dozer should do it.)

Chuck....This year is going to be a big snow year for Roseyville.  We qued up too much in Iowa last year.

Roy....Have fun in Tennessee.

Laz....No Old Milwaukee here, but you would really like the trout fishing.  You could run the train, too.

Chief.....Can you sing, "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas"?

Farmer Pat.....Have we got cows for you.  There are black, brown, black-white and tan cows.  You ride a Japanese pony to round them up to put them in the pens.  You even get to shoot little critters that poke up their heads above ground.

Doug M.......I can't believe you don't vacation here on the weekends.

Wes....They need garage bands to entertain during bike week.

Side trip to North Platt......You gotta see it to believe it!!!!

See ya down the tracks.

Big Smilehello guys, now chicago will be safer...i live about 100 miles away, so laws are different.  trouble is if someone comes in your house you cant shoot him, unless you are sure he is armed.  (yaah right search him..um..hm). have lots of .357 mg ammo that i bet is still good. have to guard my trains and my family....navyjack

Speaking of shooting intruders, a month before my son-in-law was elected Commonwealth Attorney 15 Yrs. ago, the Sheriff arrested a man for shooting an intruder inside his house. The SIL, after being sworn in refused to prosecute and released the home owner. Every since then, we can shoot intruders if they are inside the house.

The moral of the story is - "If the intruder is breaking down the door, wait until he is inside before you shoot him!".Thumbs Up

Aloha all  "... just another fire drill, a "has to get done yesterday" panic.  Followed by a retrospective and threatening "How the freak was this allowed to happen?" Jack and 8n, sounds like my work life. That gun law ruling doesn't change anything in the city. Looks like a nice day here. Had a nice ride home with all the boys: Charlie, RT, Sir J, Brutus and Ole Timer. Dennis, happy Family Day. We celebrate that too. 3 times. LOL. Like another birthday.

Mornin' boys.  First day of a string of very pleasant days in the Mid-Atlantic region.  AC off and windows open.  Dentist visits for both princesses and fifepup today.  Burgers and dogs on the grill later.

Chief - Perhaps FINN isn't a real dog, but a BARK-BOT, sent by Nawthern forces to disrupt life...(seems I'm in my conspiracy theory mode today)

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a foggy 52 degrees. Really cooled off. Low humidity. Going up to 75 today with lots of sunshine. Perfect weather.

Today is a busy day. I have some paperwork to do and the usual chores. Then, PT this afternoon. I will be at the Fitness Center, which is in the same complex as the Physical Therapy room. Same equipment types except you are on your own. No charge after you pay your yearly dues. That's the good part.

Thinking about ordering a new train car from Marty. Maybe a covered hopper or a reefer.

Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Chuck

Good morning everyone.  Has been raining here most of the night.  Makes for some great sleep, but also for some tall grass.  I will have to get out on the tractor soon.  Sad to read about that bridge.  I hope they are able to repair/replace it soon.

Don, not sure about any rumor for Thursday....first I heard of one.  Regardless, not going to pay much attention until it is fact...whatever it is???

Well, morning devotion is done, ate breakfast, now it is time to head in.  Cases starting later as we have conference this morning.  HOpe everyone has a blessed day.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Work was ok yesterday.  Meeting was not as bad as it could have been.  Trimmed and edged the yard last night.  Soccer game tonight at 6 PM.  RockIsland52, the more personal the soccer game, the more intensity it has for me.  If "my" soccer girls would ever win a sectional, that would be more satisfying on a personal level than the US winning the World Cup.  I would still celebrate, but the level of detachment is greater with the global game.  I had cereal and english muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  It is sad news about the C&T bridge.  We flew over it last night in the Tardis.  A few of us had some wet eyes.  TBIL after the game tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Really disappointed to hear about the Bridge fire!  Hope it gets repaired.

I think FINN is going to be ruling the roost.  Seems he has his eyes set on being Alpha Dog, and just giving everyone fair warning.  Sounds like he is pretty smart too!  Maybe he already has a "Master Plan" developed.

Spoke with Ray earlier in the day, he was having difficulty with the his printer.  (It wouldn't print anything, I suggested he put some paper in it and it seemed to begin working.)

Had a section of Fasttrack on my layout, just covers a small area, and makes about a 270 degree arc.  So decided I would electrify it.  It is on its own dedicated LW xfmr, and wired it to a toggle switch on the Control Panel.  About the only think I run on it is a "Bump n' Go", I have 2 pieces.  The #60 trolley, and 52 Fire Car.  Neither one have been used in a VERY long time. So the #60 was erratic and noisey.  Took it apart cleaned it, greased it.  Then broke a wire off the armature, got it back on, connected a couple of jumper wires, and held it to clean the wheels.  Managed to burn my fingers on the armature, man does that get hot!  The trolley works a lot better though.

Last week one of the guys brought over one of the MTH trolleys with PS2, that is really sweet!  The calling of stops, auto/programming the frequency, and the sound!  Truley impressive!

Also, one of my customers wants to get "into" trains, so will be helping him with suggestions.

Finally, hope the rumors regarding Thursday are wrong.

Later
