Good evening all,

It was cloudy and humid in SE Indiana today.  I had a feast for breakfast with english muffins, bacon, and a donut.  Good thing as I worked my tail off this morning, edging, trimming and pruning trees.  This after mowing the yard last night.  Tired.  Getting ready for trip.  Going to Atlanta for CDC meeting then to NC to visit relatives of wife and maybe a certain political figure known to this forum.  Will be watching Sarah's team and AJ's tonight in Texas.  Team Red has the first five starting spots!!!!  TBIL after the race.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

PS DougM, Congrats on son's goal.  There is no thrill in the world like seeing the ball hit the back of the net!  Remember this week the eyes of the world turn to South Africa.

sir james I

Sun & clouds today,70s

I found some tomatoes on my plants, course it's along way from here to turning red. lol Did some some household chores today and had a short nap. we have lots of banilla and A & W so belly up to the bar....S.J.

Got to plump red ones on my vines and lots of big green ones.  Was going to get Wifey to take a picture of the tomato plants and squash plants with me standing in them.  Half of the tomato plants [ones set early] are taller than I am.  Squash plants stand almost waist high.  OH!!!  Got big cucumbers today.  When I left Monday afternoon, they were tiny.

All say a prayer for Mike C and the Sausy Winch to have safe travels.  They are crossing the M&D tomorrow.  I have told all Reb troops to hold off.  When they come to Roseyville on the 14th, they will have to have their photo taken eating grits or will be held captive for life. ShockWhistling

Hope to rest tomorrow.  Over worked again today.  Chopped grass out of cucumbers and cantaloupes, "suckered" tomato plants and pulled morning glories, mowed my grass and neighbor's, picked garden and took a big box full ot Miss Edna's, sprayed everything and then fed deer and fish.

Hope to find time to "play" with that "testy" MTH engine I was having trouble with several weeks ago.  Taking shell off and seeing if board has jarred aloose.  Then I will run Barry's tests if that is not the problem.  Shake and Bake as well as Terry [at Miss Edna's] thinks it is a loose board.  I feel that way too.

Busy week with meetings Monday, two graduations [have to sit on stage and smile] later in the week and then more meetings.

Sleep tight all.

Chief,

Happy Birthday.  Do you have any experience with Berkley Fireline?  I spooled up a Pinnacle Solene baitcaster with it, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

John,

I hope your son did well on the SAT.

Fife,

Does fifepup have Red Dead Redemption for the Xbox?  I've been trying to find people to load up a stagecoach...

I haven't had a chance to post lately.  I am still looking for a 350 Royal Blue, but fishing has crippled the train funds.  I went out and bought a new Pinnacle Solene baitcasting reel to replace my Pinnacle Inertia after I accidentally broke the clutch bar while attempting to clear a backlash.Oops  I contacted Pinnacle's customer service folks (great people BTW) and got some replacement clutch bars, so I've got to go get another Ugly Stik soon to put the Inertia back on.Big Smile

Gosh Chief, I thought I had a good day with just getting yard cut!  Finished relatively early and when the mail came, found our son's final report card along with his Stanford test scores.  He did quite well in both, so we took him out for the lunch of his choice...Mexican.

Had a production meeting tonight.  Going to be a busy few weeks ahead of us.  Glad we were able to spend some time together as a family today as both work and movie stuff take me away from home for too many hours of the day.

Mike, hope you have a safe trip to Hotlanta and up to Rosyville!  Nice place...see if the Chief will take you to his favorite burger joint!

God Bless,
Dennis

 Evening guys!..

Late post, it's been a busy day.  Princess forgot her student ID for the SATs, ran it out to her, ran back home, showered and saddled up the HD for the HOG meeting, and was enticed with an '04 Wide Glide with 6K on the clock.  I'm just trying to figure out how to buy it...cash is tight with the Mrs not working, but I need a bigger bike for the commute back and forth to work  Smile,Wink, & Grin, so we'll see about it.

Worked on the ol' Aspen Wagon (the Daddy Wagon) got the suspension in the front done, just needs an alignment on Monday and then to re-do the interior....reinstalling the custom dash, the custom stereo and speakers and a redo of the carpeting in the rear  - it's leading up to something...

Big fund raiser for Dreams Come True, and me without a car....but I've been invited and I'll take pictures of the event.  It's sponsored by the green "e".  Classics, Muscle, European and Asian Supercars are attending.  A big police escorted cruise and brunch after.  Kick off at 0900, so I'd better get to bed soo.

Chief: Nice porch!

Brent & Fifepup : get well soon wishes & Fife I wish you more patience and good winds on the Chesapeake!

MikeC - Safe travels, my friend.  Be Safe!

 Check ya Later!

Good evening all,

A late race report.  Team Red won....again.  Briscoe was chased to the line by the Princess (was even cheering for her).  Vitor was 10th for AJ, Sarah was 15th, but not a factor.  Scary incident with Swiss Miss.  A minor oil fire after wall banging turned bad after carbon fiber was lit up.  Rescue crews must have forgotten how to deal with fire as they were really slow.  She got out ok with burns only on right hand.  Tough girl.  Looking forward to Southern trip and especially the 14th.  Will post as computer is available.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Gotcha on the screen, Mike - just use the Beta Capsule when you want to be picked up and we'll zoom right to your location.  We can use the cloaking device like we do when we pick up Kurt, too!

Tardis is ready and some rootbeer and banilla would be great!  I need to make a quick stop tonight and pick up a couple fresh tomatos I heard about Laugh

Evening all

Had a busy day.  Did some troubleshooting on the truck, looks like it needs a new lift pump. $80 and a hour.  Cut grass removed some trees from the house we're fixing up to sell, then weedwacked at church then went to Cincy for a wedding.  Just got in and winding down before bed.

Chief - The porch looks great.  My bide wants something like that for our porch.

Roy - you are great craftsman, thanks for all the hard work.

Good night and may God bless

Chief,

Happy Birthday.  Do you have any experience with Berkley Fireline?  I spooled up a Pinnacle Solene baitcaster with it, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Used it years ago.  Was OK.  Watch and see if it "frays" up.  I have used "walleye green" MagniThin for years.  Not as popular as us to be but I still love it.  Little hard to find since Berkley bought out Stren.

Reclinerized enough so off to bed.

OK the Attack Beaver had me laughing pretty good. Good job for all who worked on it especially Roy and Doug.

Really liked the look of the SMR American in the latest CTT, until I got a look at the price. Whoah! That's what I still buy automobiles for. Granted this engine may run better than one of those autos, but it's kinda limited in carrying capacity...

Anj - like the sounds of the work on the Aspen. I forget, is it a 225 or a 318?

The soles on my boots finally gave out this week. The resole lasted maybe half a year. Guess kicking all the old air-coolers has taken it out of them. The toe is too narrow anyway. My podiatrist likes a lace up for the insoles, but most of the steel toes are too narrow. Looking at motorcycle type steel toes even though most are pull on. They have nice big square toes. Since we have a couple of bike types around and a number of workmen, any body got any recommendations? I'm in new territory here. My feet just can't take combat boots anymore and yes the steel toes are a must.

Good Morning, 73 and overcast with severe thunderstorm warnings, so I decided not to go fishing. So far no rain, but the wind kicked up and it has the feel of rain.

Chuck, thanks for slowing up the rain. I got a lot done outside yesterday and I have more to do before the rain.

Pat, No, I am not one of the guys on the commercial, but it used to take me 2 weekends in the late fall and 2 weekends in the spring and that does not include quick clean ups all year of leaves. I have a lot of mature oak trees and my property is surrounded by them and the way the wind blows it seems that I get them all. I use the machine almost year round on a weekly basis and it has made my life easier. I shopped around and I looked at all of the machines on the market at the time and I decided on the Cyclone Rake. They also stand behind their product 100%. I had the machine a year and I had a flat tire. I tore the tire up a bit but I decided to call and order a new one. The customer service rep said that the machine is under 2 yrs. old and it was warrantied and a few people complained about the tires so they sent me 2 complete wheel assemblies.

Jim, Thanks for the wishing my son luck on the SAT.

Dennis, Cogratulations for your son's report card and his results for the Stanford Test. Nice accomplishment.

Rich, I wish your daughter luck with SAT Exam. Dodge Aspen Wagon? I have to tell the Greenfield Boys about that. Curt asked about you the other day. That is a dare to be different and interesting car. When we had the Aspens and Volares in the fleet we were busy with K frame worn suspension problems and engine problems along with disappearing front fenders. The fenders totally rotted off the cars from top to bottom when they were 2 years old, worse than the GM truck fenders. Those cars bring back bad memories down to the heater & a/c controls. Then came the K cars another story. Enough negativity on the new hot rod. I am sure you will update and improve the ride. By the way I am curious like Bob, what engine?

Jim (Sturgeon-Phish) I thought that I was busy, you have some energy.

Everyone, have a good day,

  John

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a humid and rainy 72 degrees. Looks like rain all day. Going up to 82 and wet.

Today is an easy day. Looks like I will spend some time in the train room. Trains to run, Nascar race to watch. I have to dust some rail cars and engines. Good day for it.

John....Sorry about the rain today. It's all over the place.

Dining car is here and the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Tinkered a bit tonight w/ the 1122's to see if I could figure out my derailing problem. I found that one of the switches I had modified to external power was not getting current thru the movable portion of the switch due to wear in the rivet. A wire soldered on underneath solved that. Both the trolley and the 2026 seem to be happy w/ the switches now in a couple of configurations. It's amazing how quiet it is on the linoleum in the control room compared to the hardwood floor at home. I wonder if there was an uneven spot in the floor, as it was always in the same place using different switches. The 2026 is now happily smoking up the control room:)

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & humid 77 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  S'posed to have thunderboomers 'bout 1.  Could affect Blueberry's tv schedule.

Thanks for all the get-wells for the pup.  Gonna try and send him to school (they will wheel him around from class to class) this week.  Had to get him some antibiotics for his foot.  Stitches come out Friday afternoon.

Probe - Red Dead just appeared to be too mature for my 15 yr old. Whistling  I could be wrong.  Baitcasting...too much patience and skill with those rigs.  I've become mighty fond of the newer closed-face spinning reels.

John, thanks for the kudos...his lowest grade was a 97.  (Must take after his mother).  We are proud of him.  What he lacks in athletic ability, he makes up for with his grades.

Bob, back when I was with the FD, all the guys had Sears Die Hard shoes.  While not a boot, I think they had steel toes and were comfortable.  Nice part was with lace ups, we could leave them a little loose and, when a call came in, just kick them off and put on boots.  They hold up well and are cheap enough that when they do wear out, you can just pick up another pair.  Worth checking out.

Well, time to get ready for church.  I am on camera today and wife is working "wee-care".  Like to serve, but we miss the message and have to get it on DVD.

God Bless,
Dennis

A quick aloha before going to church. Stormy last night. Hope everyone's OK. Cograts on your son's good grades, Dennis. I wonder what that's like? Wink  Bob, have you ever tried Red Wings work-boots? I recommend them.  Sorry I missed your call, Brutus, was at this wedding most of the day. DOUG .... I agree on the redwings ..... best = well made boots I ever owned !

Morning guys - had poptarts on the dining car this AM.  Doug - no prob, just was going to tell you when that movie was on.  It was okay - they updated it to present day, changed the planet, added some kind of memory chip transfer thing, added an earth villain from Iraq, and of course the Tarks were only regular height and did not have 4 arms etc.  If they do make a big budget movie based on John Carter, I hope they do it right!

Plans today are to make my wife happy.  I will put up those shelf brackets, get the wood and maybe get it routed and painted today with any luck - hope it doesn't rain!

I also have a light fixture to swap out, which is not a big project really, so I might sneak that in if it does rain.

Hmmm - need to run trains, too.   We'll see!

Afternoon all!

Thanks all for the compliments on the Chief and the attack beavers.

Bob - I also recommend the Redwings. I have a pair from years ago and still holding up. The down side is they get a pretty penny for those puppies, but you get quality and support if there is problem with the boots or shoes.

Hot again here. Made 100 yesterday and will be 99 or 100 today. Lawn and yard are drying out. Running sprinklers 2 times a week. May have to up that.

Taking it easy today. NASCAR and trip to mall for daughters B-Day present in store this afternoon.

Have a great day all!

Afternoon all.  Sunday School and rest.  Then went with wifey to Lowes Foods and Walmart.  Now getting ready to cook fried pork chops and gravy, squash and onions, cabbage and fix cucumbers, onions and green peppers in vinegar.  Southern cooking.

Speaking of Southern, Mike C and Sausy Winch are probably across the M&D.  Are they in for a surprise. Evil  Plenty of sweet ice tea and grits for them.

Now you will see why we live in the South.  Things just grow bigger and faster.

Tomato plants and squash plants a few weeks ago:

Today:

Hot peppers [tiny row to the right]

Hot peppers now:

Cucumbers:

Now [and bearing about a half 5 gallon bucket full a day and still growing]

Apple tree is loaded:

Peach tree [see limbs proped up due to weight, produces large sweet ones]

Concord grape vine:

Scuppernong grape vines:

One of Pam's flowers:

Cabbage we are going to cook [nice big head].

You Yanks are just getting out of the snow. Laugh

Go to work tomorrow and work hard as my SS check is due this week.Approve

CHIEF .... I love cucumber salad .... only I sbstitute the green peppers for chunks of fresh tomatoes ... and just a pinch of sugar to take the bite off the vinegar .... Dinner Sometimes I just peel a cucumber and eat it with a spec of salt too . Of course a plate full of sliced fresh tomatoes with slices of fresh peppers with a dab of mayonaise on the side make a great salad type snack too . You're going to force me to go to the produce stand ... darn it .. nothing on any plants or vines locally here ... Sigh  Is that southern cooking why you look so thin and underfed in that pic ???? Whistling

Beautiful garden by the way .... man plants DO grow alot faster and larger there !!!  I have'nt raided a peach tree since I was 10 ... but I'd be tempted raid yours ... of course I can't duck and dodge a rifle or shotgun with rocksalt any more ... so guess you'd be safe .... LOL .

Storms finally moved out of our area ... some folks got a real bad pounding .... but the worst seemed to bypass us ... lucky for once . Bright beautiful sunshine now with low 70's temps .... fantastic ... opened all the windows and both patio doors to let that fresh air flow !

Chief,

Thanks for the heads up on MagniThin.  I'll check around.  I was using Cajun Red (it was made by Shakespeare but it is now made by Zebco), and it did a very nice job on spinning and baitcast reels.  I just switched to Fireline because I like to try different lines when possible.

Fife and Wes,

Trust me, I am no stranger to backlash.  I made a really big mess on Memorial Day when I put too much into a cast and didn't get my thumb on the spool in time.  I also use open spinning reels regularly, but the closed type seem to hate me for some reason.

I use mainly baitcasters.  Get a few backlashes but not many.  I use Rick Clunn reels [they are extra smooth and fast on the cast] along with Bass Pro Shops Extreme Rods or Bionic Blades.  BPS use to make "cheap" stuff but now they make great rods and reels.  I mainly use the ones with long handle and triger for finger.  Don't really like the short handle ones.  I also use a lot of telescoping rods that go to 7 to 71/2 feet.  Never been too much into floracarbon line.  It is suppose to disappear in water.  Can use it for a "leeder" on some rigs.  I am mainly a crankbait and spinner bait guy.

Good evening everyone.  Just a quick stop over before bed.  We went to Longhorn's for lunch.  Had a fillet with bacon wrapped scallops.  Came home and I was exhausted!  I had only gotten two hours of sleep.  Anyhow, went to sleep on the couch and woke up looking through hazy vision to see the clock and thinking it was 5:30, I jumped up, ran out the door for church.  Found the clock in the car read 4:30 and decided to stop off at Books-A-Million and picked up a fancy coffee, as obviously, I needed to wake up.  Also picked up a "O-Scale Trains" magazine and a "Outdoor Photographer" mag. so I will have something to read in between cases in the morning.

While at church (I eventually did get there in a timely fashion), we had about 110 media folks in as they are going to be on set this week for the movie.  Also have some special guests in town, but it will make things interesting having all those extra folks around.  Being a part of this project has really blessed me in many ways.  I get to serve while also meeting some very interesting people.  Will fill y'all in on more detail, but will have to wait till we are done shooting.

God Bless,
Dennis
