Good morning afternoon evening.  Busy day.  Calls from news media all morning.  Rolesville HS site has been decided.  Then had Town Hall Day at Legislature until now.  Yesterday had pond person come and we decided that the "black" boys [now in jail] on the hill above the pond had caught some of the grown grass carp out.  So I will have to buy about $120 more of them.  Not happy.

Pam is getting an new CRV or RAV4.  For some reason she is leaning toward the CRV.  I will take the 4Runner and keep the 97 Silverado too.

Got to go as we have vehicle business to discuss before she goes to bed [which is normally about 8:30 as she leaves at 6 AM].

BTW: not hungry as had meat balls, eastern NC bar-be-que and boiled shrimp on the buffet.  Still room for popcorn.  Tomorrow you get a repeat of the REAL Southern Ice Tea recipe and no one puts milk in grits.

Good night all [I'm tired].

I'm still confused why they call it 'sweet tea' is should really be called 'tea flavored sugar'

Evening all,

Just got the kids to bed and setting down with a Sam Adams in a frosted mug.  I got our grass cut.  The mower did fine with the replaced hub.  We're going to take the kids on a 4-5 day camping vacation into Michigan in the truck camper.  IT will be tight but you do what you have to do.

The Ruger GP100 is in at the dealers that I won at auction.  I am anxious to get it and poke some holes in paper!  I'll let you know how it shoots when I get it.

Jim, I've seen one of the riviet wire broke before but not both.  Maybe some tried some repair work in its past.

I like my grits plain, sometimes with a pat of butter and brown sugar.

More yard work tomorrow at the other house.  It is really shaping up.

Good night and may God bless

Jim

 Hello all,

Fife, no offense but I'd just as soon take a lick'n  as travel Baltimore's beltway. Been there too many times. I'm not much for big cities. Early 90's we took the kids to the Aquarium, Inner Harbor, Zoo, Etc. Got lost in a seedy section of town. Upon visiting a cousin in Dundalk and telling him where I'd been he said I was lucky to get out safely. According to Mapquest Rt. 32 is 4 miles and 6 minutes longer than 97. But it's a lot more laid back. Been traveling to the Delaware Seashore at least once a year since '96. tried many ways but prefer 32. I did look at 213 you mentioned. That looks like a good way if you start on the north side of Baltimore. We get of of 50 on 404. Where we get off of 404 depends on if we're headed to Rehoboth, Bethany or Fenwick.

Looks like there'll be hay to bale Friday.  That'll delay packing. Mrs isn't real happy about that.

I did send two .243 rounds up the hill at groundhogs the other evening while working in the garden.  I'm getting rusty. Missed them both.

No trains today.

Need to go to bed. 5:00 will come to soon.

prayers for all who may need them

About 80 and thunderstorms, presently.

SJ - belated happy birthday.

Started the evening at the Historic Half Mile watching 410 sprint car races.  Special program, most of the big names were there.  Storms started just as time trials ended.  Rescheduled for June 29.

Not much on the train front.  Thinking about ordering the Coke boxcar from the Christmas Catalog.

New store opened across the street from the LHS.  Husband and wife deal.  'His' side of the store is selling games - tactical/historical sort of games.  'Her' side of the store is a small art gallery.  She is an artist so this is an outlet for her work.  She also offers lessons.  Interesting couple.  We've known them for about 18 months.  Found out that somebody is offering an anneversary edition of Axis & Allies.  I'll probably have to obtain one of these too.

All for now.

Ignoring 88!!!!!

Banks, .243!!!  Bought a Remington 700 CDL [Boone and Crockett] in .243 with Leupold B&C scope to match.  Have not had time to shoot it in and I have my own range.  Bought it for ground hogs, foxes and coyotes.  So far I only have 13 boxes of ammo for it.  Verious bullet weights.

Now back to sleep.  Had to take Finn out for his last pee.

 Good Evening

Havn't meant to be a stranger, but lots been going on.

And I sure don't want to get in "Tea Wars", anyway we all know that Sun Tea is always the best.  Speaking of which, Kay normally gets coffee mix that she grinds at the market.  The last batch the machine was not set right, and she didn't check it.  Ground the coffee way to coarse and as a result the coffee seems weaker than the lightest tea.  Oh well.

More significant, Kay's Dad had a value replaced in his heart.  The surgery went well but he is on a 6 week recovery plan.  (He is 82).  Unfortunately he was retaining too much water, and that led to some complications.  Fortunately, he got into the Dr., and seems it is all getting under control.  But it has been a toll on the MIL as well.  So have been trying to help them out (mostly Kay), but time just seems to escape.

Then Chris' trip to Texas is going well, he is currently in Yuma, on his way home.  Havn't had any car problems, other than getting a Sparrow stuck in the grill while he was in Texas.  Was really fortunate with all the stuff going on in OK City, he was about 40 miles SW and didn't have any problem.  He has decided that Texas may play a major part in his future plans.  So will see what happens with that.

I got myself into a situation, some of the guys I knew from the Train club have been talking, and I invited them over for a day and BBQ.  Now here is the problem, there will be 7 of us!  Don't know how to accommodate all of them.  Think I  will take the screens off the windows, and a couple of guys may have to stand outside to run a train.  Or in the dinning room window.  Should be fun!!!  I spent last 2 nights cleaning track.  Will need to spend quite a bit of time getting everything "ship shape".  What will be fun is most of them have not seen how DCS can run.  Especially since I have all the switches and accys hooked up to it.  Could be a trip!

Have run into an issue however.  My Lionel Scale Cab-Forward, threw a tire.  And to reinstall you need to remove the boiler!  (One of the screws will not extend enough to gain access without removing it!)  Just really don't want to take that thing apart!

Looking at changing all our "communication services" to FIOS next week.  Will even be able get RFD-TV !!  That will be cool.  And, of course installation is scheduled for next Tuesday, (same day as train group event.)

Last comment, 1 more AC deprived kid.  1st House with air, was one that I bought.  Current house has air but only use it MAYBE 1-2 weeks a year, if that.   Wife "has to have air moving," keeping it working in the cars can REALLY be expensive!

We are having some really great weather this week, very comfortable!  Hope everyone stays well, and safe.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Long story short, I was on a team that won 3-1 last night.  Longer story shorter, I am not the worst player (for once).  There are two girls from the eastern part of Germany who are here in Indiana as nannies who have never played the game before.  To tell you how times have changed, they were both born AFTER the Berlin Wall fell.  They have no memories of a divided Germany.  Makes you think.....   I did ok.  Did nothing great, but nothing bad either.  We play two next week.  Should be interesting.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 68 degrees. Clear skies. Going up to 88 today with NO rain.

Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping. I will put everything away, when she returns. Meanwhile, I have a few chores to do and some paperwork. Maybe later, I can relax. PT went well yesterday. I am a little achy in my legs right now. Hope it wears off.

Dining car is here for the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Don, why don't you try the silicone method before attempting to tear apart the steamer. Quite a few folks have had good results with the silicone.

Aloha from a beauteous Crystal Lake. Survived exec pastor candidate dinner with 9 other people at the house. Bride will probably take the day to recover. Have to check out the grill as it might be clogged up somewhere. Couldn't get it hot. Any ideas?

May take the youngest to the beach today with the youngest?   What will I do when I can't watch the World Cup at 6:30 am? NavyJack and Jack, you'd be surprised at what's changed and what hasn't changed in your old neighborhoods....

Happy Birthday SJ...

Chipotle Mexican Grill makes the best brewed tea.  It's consistantly good in every state I drink it in, even Florida...They are true to the south...they have a second container of sweet tea in the southern stores and it's just too sweet for Nawtherners to handle.

NavyJack and Jack, you'd be surprised at what's changed and what hasn't changed in your old neighborhoods....

DougM.....the family piled into two vehicles and took a one-way, 1,100 mile road trip about two months ago to visit family in the area, from Gary Indiana to the East,  Elgin IL to the West, and Northbrook to the North.  I spent some time helping my MIL and FIL who are in their high 80s catch up on some things around their homestead while my wife and family took day trips.

My first home, our old apartment on N. Lakewood Avenue (6318 N.) in Rogers Park is still standing.  Whalen pool and SuperDawg are still there (Devon and Milwaukee); but the miniature golf course at the same intersection is long gone....maybe 30 years ago it was sold off and other stuff built there.  As is the case with about of 15-20% of the homes in my old hood, my (own) first tiny home in Sauganash, built in 1917 and one of the first three homes built there, was sold, torn down, and replaced with a McMansion about 3 years ago, stuffed onto a lot 37' x 125' though they left the garage.  My parents and sister's homes built around 1950 still stand.  The LaBaugh Woods forest preserve, owned by the County (Cook) will remain untouched in its natural state, in perpetuity.  The decades dormant CNW commuter and freight railroad tracks were torn out and replaced by a biking/jogging trail.  Part of the railroad property and part of a cemetary were sold off and townhomes built about 20 years ago.  The educational facilities of the old Good Counsel High School and the Felician College remain.  My favorite liquor store is still there too!  And the Chicago Cubs are another constant that has withstood the test of time:  they still have not won a world series, and Wrigley looks better than ever.

You are correct, though, it feels very strange to see how much of the old neighborhood(s) has changed, what has been torn down, what has replaced it, and what remains.

Navyjack and I lived minutes from one another in the 50s and 60s, and hit some of the same old haunts in our youth, and at the same time!  What a small world, considering the size and population of Chicago proper.

Jack,

Add me to the mix.  I grew up near Fullerton and Central Park.  Actually 2200 North and 3600 West, in the Logan Square neighborhood.  When I was young the El used to end at Logan Square.  I went to Lane Tech.  It is a small world indeed.

SJ,

      Happy B-Day

Brent,

         I didn't think of that.

Jim,

I have found a solution to the smoke unit alignment issue in the 350.  What I did was cut the brass tube down and force a piece of aquarium tubing onto it, then I put the other end of the tube into the stack hole in the boiler.  I'll get pics when I get it done later today.

Not much going on today.  I started the 350 chasis swap last night, so I want to get that finished today.
