 Morning All !!

Happy Birthday Brent !!!  Glad your still with us!

I can't say anything about the Grits in the Car Exchange Cars, I was sworn to secrecy!  At first I was wondering who was leaving those "boogers" in the cars, then realized that every car had a "small" amount of this thick goey stuff stuck in them.  I couldn't believe "Fife" would do that, (he is who sent the cars to me.)  Then I started looking closer, and usually inside the box cars I would see the defacing material stuck in the upper corners.  My concern was that it would eat through the materials and leave holes in the cars.  On the "non box" cars, I found the same residual, caustic materials on the wheel trucks, or on the underside of the frame, and even under the knuckle coupler.  Fortunately, I had anticipated an evil attack of sorts, and knew it would obviously have some long term effects, and had provided each car with a bag of Grits Neutrilizer.  (California Tofu).  But since I had been sworn to secrecy I can't reveal who the culprit was that was behind the attack.  He has been known however to have previously infiltrated a Yankee restaurant in the great state of Pennsylvania, and tortured a number of train enthusiasts with a force feeding of grits.  The co-conspirator restaurant manager has since been banned from the food industry, and was last known to be working as a bus boy at Waffle House.

Buckeye, I would suggest you keep the I Love Ohio, car in quarantine, until a FULL detailed inspection is performed.  (The graffetti is the least concern, definetly will require an indepth disassembly, and inspection.)

Oh yeah, a last thought, the last time I talked with the Chief, the "Carolina Cripple" still had not made it back home.  It doesn't really surprise me, even when I had it the trucks were barely hanging on.  Obviously, it had to be due to the excessive Grits exposure it has endured over the years.  (Just one more indicator, that IF you had a car participate in the 2009/2010 Car Exchange, a thorough inspection and degausing is ABSOLUTELY, MANDATORY, prior to its integration back into YOUR fleet.)

Good Morning !

Returned from our Disney World trip yesterday. Great time with Daughter, son-in-law,  the 4 grandchildren and military families. If you know any military (active or retired) have them check out the Shades of Green Resort. Room rates are according to your pay grade.  Even if you don't stay there, they can usually get park tickets at a discount. They can contact me also.

Prayers for all and especially for those in harms way.

Aloha from a dark, grey Chicago. I gud uh cold in ma nose.  Ugh.  Let me add my compliments on your shelves, Laz. They looked glassed-in.  That's a lot of snow-shoing, Bob. I used to do that when I was (much) younger and liked to cross-country ski.  Brutus is probably still doing laundry. Jack, hope the rain stops. Didn't know it was such a storm. Gotta check on mom in Connecticut.

Teen is home from school today - someone was 'threatening' the kids and building over the weekend and he was worried so for one day, he can be sick. What a world.

Looks like a quiet day if only because I'm not feeling well and will hide in the office.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana.  Happy Belated Birthday, Brent!  Did Lucas' taxes for him.  Not as bad as ours to do.  Watched "Housewives".  Not much else going on.  Still happy from Vitor's run yesterday.  Although the first pit stop was a little slow, the second one was perfectly timed, and they made a great run.  The Princess lost a lap midway thru and was second best among the ladies as Ana Beatrice was 13th, and Simona even led a few laps.  For once they had a road course with places to pass.  Toe still not 100%.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast as it rolled in from "Points East".  TBIL anytime, and Patrick, we will pick you up first.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 40 degrees. Going up to 58 today with a few rain showers.

Today is a busy day. I have some errands to run and a few chores around the house. Then, I have PT this afternoon. No train time today. Glad I ran trains, yesterday, for a few hours.

Dining car is here with the usual, Cheerios, for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

It is still raining heavily.  The pond behind me is over its banks.  The house next door sits about 3-4 feet lower than me, and the water now covers their driveway......next the water will be in their garage and into their basement (under the house garage).

Just beyond my house on my street, a creek runs behind 5 houses and dumps into the pond.  With the pond beyond overflowing, the creek is backing up; and those houses are now in jeopardy of flooding.  Rain expected all day.

These folks need a miracle.  I am going to go out and check on things.  I should be ok.

Morning all.  Heading in for early case.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Jack, stay dry.  Spoke with one of the guys up in Jersey last night.  In a 24 hour period, they had 184 calls at the fire department.  It is not  a record, but certainly enough to keep them busy.  Mind you, they don't run the ambulances any more, that is just for fire service.

Glad that I heart Ohio car made it back home in one piece.  Can't imagine how long we would hear about it if it didn'tSmile,Wink, & Grin  Just kidding Buckeye.  Really is a neat story about the travels across the country.  Nice going Fife and Don along with the rest of the gang.  Made some great SPF and the stories that went with them were fun.

 Happy Birthday Brent!

Jack - I hope you keep your head above water. I had a friend who was working at a HD in the DC area when they had the remnants of a hurricane come through a few years back. They couldn't keep generators in stock. At one point they were selling them right off the truck. One lady wanted to know if it was ok to run it in her living room. Another guy was worrried about his basement and was thinking of using a shop vac to clear it, but since electricity might be in question wanted one that would run on gas. I think there was even one person who wanted to know if there was a generator that ran on electricity. "Yes, it's called an extension cord." Having worked in a hardware store I can imagine it easily.

My best stupid customer story? The lady who wanted to know if we carried swimming pool paint, i.e. for the plaster. "Yes we do". 'Is it available is different colors?' "Yes, we cannot make a custom color, but several are available premixed". (Here it comes...) 'Do you have to empty the pool before you paint it?' (thunk) "No ma'am, just dump it in, it'll head for the walls."

Oh, and before I went on my little snowshoe adventure, I tested out the windbird. Communicates just fine. Now to get the darn thing back up on Wednesday.

Good Evnin, ya'll, from drowning and drenched Taxachusetts and Southern New England,

Started raining yesterday afternoon, 7 inches here so far and rain to continue heavy overnight and through tomorrow midnight.  N'oreaster, so we are getting hit off the water. Winds gusting to 50 mph.  Wave heights 15'-20'.  A 12' tidal surge expected.  All streams and creeks over their banks and the rivers all at flood stage.  I am a mile off the ocean thankfully.  70,000 homes in Ct. without power already.  Could be a 100 year storm before it is over.

Trees are started to drop because the saturated ground ain't holding the roots, power outages are mounting, and that means no sump pumps except for those with generators.  Coastal towns north of Boston are getting hammered (me) particularly bad.......roads covered with boulders, sand, and debris.  Beach erosion severe.  Parts of several inland cities and towns are becoming rivers and lakes.  Evacuations taking place within 30 miles of here.

So far I am dry, but I have neighbors within shouting distance that may not be so lucky with their basements.  Washers, dryers, hot water heaters, furnaces, electric panels.......this stuff isn't covered by homeowners' insurance unless one has flood insurance.

Gotta go check the basement again.  In New England, rising ground water levels can get to you too, seeps in right through the foundations.

Quack quack Jack

Evening all

A wonderful Sunday it has been.  Thanks for the input about the dog.  After the death of our two dogs a few years ago I did not think I'd get another dog.  Well the gandkids coming to live with us has changed several things around here.

We took the kids up to see how the dog and kids would interact, and they all really hit it off.  We will pick up the dog next Friday.  The kids are excited.

Laz - The case is beautiful.

Happy birthday Brent

May God bless

Happy Birthday Brent!!!!  Sorry I didn't get it in the earlier posts, had a time frame to work on and was not in my right mind.

Bob, That snowshoe exercise looks great.  Of course, it is hard to do when it is the 60s out here.  I hope there are other facilities than that one!

Laz, nice job on the display cases.  I am hoping to do something similar, but with more shelves when I get further along with the layout.  It appears that you have it designed that the end opens up for access to the locomotives?  Also, I have been thinking of going with "rope lighting" for the inside.  Will have to see how bright they are and if it will work with the display.

Well, got back to church tonight and was in the media control room before services.  Got paged to the hospital for someone in dire straights.  Wish I could say another life was saved, but sadly, that is not the case.  A lot of effort went into this patient, but the writing was on the wall from the beginning.  A couple of thoughts to share.  Make sure you get check ups especially every year when you get into your 40s and up.  Have your glucose checked as well.  Untreated, diabetes can cause havoc on the whole body.  Lastly, it really isn't about us.  It is about our loved ones and the ones who will be in pain when we are gone.  So for them, make sure you are on top of your health.

May the week ahead hold many blessings for each of you.  I continue to pray for Bob, Roy's sister, Chief's mom, Jim's wife, SP's friend, and for a few others who I know are facing issues with kids.  God Bless,
Dennis

Well I got to go snowshoeing today and it was a lot of fun! Just about what I hoped it would be. Aerobic hiking in the snow.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4038/4433868018_9c9dbeb810.jpg

The snowshoes worked well, but the bindings left something to be desired. Hey, how much can you expect from $30 military surplus? I have some ideas on how to improve them though.

So, is it heads?

Or tails?

Not a great self portrait, but try running away from a camera on a timer w/ snowshoes...
