Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a rainy 40 degrees. Going up to 48 today, with lots of rain.

Today is an easy day. I plan on relaxing  and running trains later.  Only a few small chores to do first. Good day for a nap.

Dining car is here and it's the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Monsoon and 48 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Looks like WV (especially Charleston) is getting pounded between the two weather systems.  Must be the weekend...princess drama.

Morning all.  Have some chores to do before the guests get here.  Morning reading and prayers are done.  Supposedly, the temps will be in the mid 60s and windy/raining today.  That may change the plans regarding going to the zoo, but we still will go out for some grub later.

Finished the latest OGR and anxiously awaiting the next CTT.  I enjoy the magazines, but need more of them...too many dry spells with reading.  Guess they plan it that way so I can actually get some work done.

Bob, that tupperware sure has a lot of uses.  You could have taken a photo of it and sent it to the company for a little publicity and perhaps a little money for your train budget.  I was showing photos from the scope's web site to my son.  He is so interested in how stuff works these days.  I hope to encourage that interest.

God Bless,
Dennis

Cannonball Jim - the other store in the Phoenix area that carries O gauge stuff is called "An Affair w/ Trains" on Deer Valley Rd. From the pictures on their website they have at least a couple of Lionel sets but you might want to call about their O gauge selection. I'm not sure why Cave Creek got stuck in my mind, but they did recently move.

Jim T. - I brought the smoke unit w/ me and hope to install it in the next few days. I brought a circle of track w/ me as well so hopefully I can show everybody a video of the maiden run.

Spent most of the night working on the new windbird electronics enclosure. It is assembled and works on the battery so far. This unit has a 12V battery that is charged during the day by a solar panel. As it lives on the roof of the VATT telescope it has to be completely electrically insulated from their building, hence the battery power and fiber optic tranmission. It was originally quite the hack job and was installed in a plastic tote. We've made a number of upgrades recently, my most recent being losing the tupperware container.

Jim, you should check in with the Hobby Lobby website to see if they have a 40% coupon that you can use for the trains.  I think the NYC Flyer set sells for $259.00 normally, so 40% would be a good savings to pick one  up.  Our HL has NYC, Santa Fe, Pennsy Flyer sets.  Also, they have Atlas individual cars for sale.

John, just make sure you stay off River St. in Hackensack!  I used to know some folks over at PSE&G up there.  I would guess they are retired by now, I have been away for many years.

Rained like crazy here for most of the day.  Did some food shopping and then got home to see wife cleaning up as her dad is coming to visit tomorrow.  I am still on call, but if the weather holds, we may be going to the zoo.  It has been awhile since I have been there.

Had a meeting for breakfast this morning to discuss more of the movie.  It is really starting to gear up for the start of filming.  So much work goes into things before the first line is read.  Got my Legacy system back from Lionel today.  Now to wait on the adapter cable and I will be in business.  Really look forward to getting things going.

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

Evening to all you fellows for the return posts. Iam familiar with Roys world in Mesa . As yet to visit Cave creek store. There is a Hobby Lobby in Preskitt  with a limited  train inventory and acessorys.  Gonna see if O starter sets are in stock. If not , go to Cavecreek. I see some of you have  tried to set  ( N gauge)  on the rails~~~~~~  makes for naughty thoughts, HEH HEH  . Youth and agility is replaced by  old age and trechery. I set my N&W mug down some place ~~ ahhh the cat took it . I wouldn't let her walk on the key pad.  Thank all of you folks for your insight to this newbie.

Good Evening:

My first night off and it took forever to catch up on the posts. Nothing new here but a big Rain/Wind Storm starting. They are calling for 5" + of rain with susained winds 40-50 mph. and a chance of SNOW Sunday to Monday.  I am working tomorrow and on call Sat. Night into Monday. We are prepping our garages in flood prone Oradell and Hackensack. SPANK- Good luck with the property in Wayne. That is another area we have to watch.

Another evening collecting photons at the 'scope. Got a number of projects to work on if things stay quiet.

Jim - Welcome to the Pot! Nice to see another Arizonan too. There's a couple of stores in the Phoenix area: Roy's Train World in Mesa and another in Cave Creek which would be closer to you. I've not been to the Cave Creek store so you will have to let me know how it is.

Jim T. - the car looks and sounds good!

Well off to work on some of the electronics for the windbird.

Jim, Welcome aboard the coffee pot.  That 3 inch long caboose sounds like N gauge.  That stuff is hard to work with when you get a little older and the eyes are'nt as good as they used to be.  The advantage is that you can get a lot in a small space.  I have tried HO, N and finally O gauge.  O gauge suits me just fine but it takes up my whole garage to run it.  Of course you can build layouts as small as 4 X 8 feet.  Try to meet someone with an O gauge layout in your area to get ideas or visit local hobby shop.  I doubt if there are any train clubs near you but that's how I got started in O gauge.  Good luck with whatever you decide.  There are plenty of folks on here that will give advice if wanted.

Good Afternoon,

Got a little warmer and now cooled off some with the rain. Hey anjdevil if the storms keep up I may be up to see you or the Chief a whole lot sooner than anybody wants me to!!  Got a tornado watch until 5pm or so today, just hope that I don't catch the Big Wind Gust!!

Speaking of traveling I might be going up to Philladelphia this summer, with a side trip over to Lancaster PA. Will be going to Leesport market on wednesday morning, have some nice shopping there.

Still don't know anything more about the sale of the RV!  Maybe if I go up there and kick down the office door he may pay attention, then again if I do that the sheriff's department may give me a free ride to the slammer.

Been working on my layout a little, lighting up the house for Shrek on the Ogre Pass siding. Repalced the passenger cars on that run because they kept jumping the track without permission.

Chief; Izzere room at the table for one more displaced yankee?  Am ~O&R OTR driver~ ( old and retired over the road ) needing a new pastime. Grand daughter in GRN. Jct. Col. sent me a caboose from  LS&S #4349. It is 3ins. long. What scale is that? This railroading is interesting to me in any size except that really small one ( very hard to put cars on track)  I like the 3 rail better.   Better have another cup of coffee w/ coal dust for added flavor, gives real meaning to black coffee HEH HEH   while crunching numbers for a train set . Any suggestions?  See ya' later   Cannonball ~~ another Jim

Now how'd that happen?Whistling  Was there any moonpie cargo?  Sometimes that happens when those cars come south of the MD line...or so I have heard.  Anyway, hope the damage wasn't too severe.

Cannonball, I love Grand Junction.  That is where I fly into when we go Elk hunting.  Regarding your train purchase if getting into the hobby, I have a couple of suggestions.  First, get a starter set so you will have something to run and have fun with while you are working out exactly where you want to go in the hobby.  None of us seem to have unlimited resources, so it is best to limit your purchases beyond the starter set to a direction you want to go.  Some great starter sets are available by most manufacturers these days.  With a 40% coupon from Hobby Lobby, you can pick up one of the Lionel "Flyer" sets for about $150-$200.  When looking for direction, try to see other people's layouts and find what interests you most.  May be Post War, Pre War Lionel or others.  May be modern with or without command control.  You may also want to limit it to specific railroad names like New York Central, etc.  You would be well served with doing ten times the amount of time looking and getting ideas before the time of purchasing.  You might also decide to model late years, all diesel, or electric.  Or, perhaps Steam/diesel of the late 40s to early 50s.(this is where you have more options).  Anyway, good luck.

Dennis

I just got a call from Buckeye and he was very upset.  It seems ,that while he and Wes were having breakfast, at a local Columbus Soup Kitchen, his car was vandalized by the local hobos. They stole his prized eight track tape player, and a rusty shovel. They also took a canteen of cheap wine, that was his lunch. His spare pair of shoes are missing too. Then, they rubbed oil all over his windshield, and set it on fire. All his tires were slashed. They painted his headlights with maroon and gray paint. On the way home, he got a ticket for speeding.

You could hear him reply, as he drove out of sight.................................." TGIF ".
