Ole Timer

CHIEF ..... Send the snow to Maryland ?  Did you forget where the Mason Dixon line is ? Above us here  Chief ... North ... above Maryland .... I don't want to use that N word .... NORTH ..... but I see I have to . The word north puts a bad taste in our mouths here in the old Line state . Smile,Wink, & Grin

Sorry, meant the Baltimore/DC area and not on my REB friends in the SOUTHERN Maryland.  Use to work the Baltimore Bass Pro Shops and the guys who worked for Motor Guide trolling motors were firemen from SW Maryland.  They would always remind me they were NOT Yankees and loved sweet ice tea.  I guess those around the DC area are more prone to be Yankees than the rest of the state. Whistling

Watched Train and Locomotives that had been DVR'd.  Was on the old PA railroad steam engines [now at Strausburg] and was filmed during the Conrail era as they had several Conrail freights around the big stone bridge and Enola yards.

Popcorn time.  Later

Laughhello guys, the snow storm missed us thank god we only got about three inches.  my wife and i drink green sweetened ice tea.  is that what sweet tea is?  i have been all over the world and only live in illinois as this is where we ended up and my sick father was here, so i consider myself an american, not a southerner or northerner. i think all you guys are my friends, and i would never trade any one of you.  will be getting my williams e-7 soon.  am excited as it looks like one nice engine.  now when i can run trains i can use my lionel aluminum acl cars with it.  i love the purple and silver acl colors, i also love the brown and orange illinois central.  we live near a lake 300 feet away and grandson (13) is into fishing he is starting a campaign against his parents to spend the summer with us so he can walk to the end of the block and throw a fishing pole in the water.  a friend of his caught 8 northerns of good size sunday so he is motivated.  we have crappies, bluegills, cats, northerns, and muskies in this lake.  anyone have alligator gar?  your friend navyjack

Good Morning all

A lot of the snow is melting now, slow enough where flooding should not be an ssue.

Dennis - I was wondering if the plant was going in your neck of the woods.  The nuke plants are safe, and clean.  Our plant is not a power plant but part of the nuke fuel cycle and the improvements in safety over the last 30 years is remarkable.  The training, the equipment, the maintaining of the equipment makes for good neighbors.  The plants are built and operated with a principal of multiple layers of controls, engineered and adminstrative that prevent and mitigate the chance of an accident.  I would have no trouble iving next to one.

I used to carpool to work with a guy who worked in the environmental department and each day on the way home he checked the extreem outfalls, the streams that ran through the plant and the discharge of the plant into the waterways, and the water we put back into the waste streams was all treated and went back cleaner than when it was taken from the Scioto River or underground wells.

Speaking of work, I'd beter be going.

May God bless

Good morning.

Sad to see the snow melt.  We only have about a foot left on the ground, but fortunately for us we are going to get more snow! Yeah!!

A very nice Birthday gift from the Baby Buckeye and family; the Lionel Control Tower.  Baby also wants to work on the scenery on the layout.  Yeah!!  Baby Buckeye's Bouncing Baby Boy is growing up fast.  He is now almost nine months.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 32 degrees. Going up to 36 today with a chance of snow flurries.

Today is busy. Have an errand to run and the daily chores around the house.  Pretty soon, it will be March and then , hopefully, Spring. This has been a long winter.  PT went well yesterday. I have a few , new, exercises to do at home. I need to walk the stairs more. Into the train room. That sounds good.

Dining car is here and it is the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Another day closer to the end o year.  At PT Conf. got sent home 1.5 hrs. early, on count of weather.  Watched Olympics then nighty nite.

BRUTUS, YEP got the CNC router doing some neat things for the kidos.  Ours cost, 12K, ouch but well worth it.

Stay frosty,

Buckeye--sorry to hear the bad news about you losing snow, we picked up another 6" over the weekend. We now have 62" on the ground, perhaps I could box some up and send it your way? Just let me knowCool  Fortunately we are headed to single digit temps tonight with strong NW winds so we will enjoy our snow at least a few more weeks!

Mornin' boys.  Drizzle and 37 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  On a train related note, spent 2 1/2 hours yesterday directing traffic in the rain thanks to a faulty RR XING on Chief's favorite "short" line.

Ref to GREEN power, it seems like we are sending billions out of the US to pay for these wind turbines.

Morning.  Quick stop by to catch up on things before heading in.  I am second in today, so get to drop son off at school enroute.  Snow, you guys up north and west can keep it.  Looks great on TV, but don't want to have to live through it any time soon.  Have movie planning meeting to arrange...maybe today for lunch.  Then, come home to plenty of honey dos.  Hope it is a good one for each of you.

Here's what I heard on the news today......

1. There are 10 million people plus, out of work.

2. There are hundreds of thousands of homes being Foreclosed upon,

3. There was no raise for SS checks as there is no inflation.

4. The multi million dollar Space Shuttle landed safely at night.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............

Good morning all,

It is cloudy with a dusting of Snohio this morning.  Navyjack, your comment about all of us being Americans is quite true (although being a Hoosier is quite special :-) ).  Was very busy last night.  Did the YMCA thing, balanced the checkbook, got trash ready for pickup, watched a little of the Olympics, and did some Second Life.  "Lost" is on tonight and will try to watch.  Was very busy at work yesterday and got way more done than I thought I would.  Also got some good news on the new job.  Still not a done deal, but getting closer to it everyday.  That will be a good day.  I had the regular fare for breakfast on the dining car as it came in from "Points East".  TBIL after "Lost".  Prayers going out to all who need them.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning

Gloomy going to mid 30s all week wih some flurries mixed in. Well it is still winter.

Reading how Toyota hid defects and remember one of our posters telling us that over a year ago. Just like Tiger don't apologize until you get caught. I am going out for a walk this morning, figure I had a stress test yesterday pushing the snow blower through that wet snow.

Sausage gravy and an egg for breakfast, ah it smells so good.

Aloha all. Cold today but looks like it's clearing over the lake. Long day today with class tonight. I'll be looking for fellow riders on the local train home. Been going to the Art Institute all month at lunch as it's been free. Nice to visit my favorite paintings and other art. Today the Field Museum is free. Maybe I'll trek down there. Boy, didn't Jim do a great job restoring his Gateman? I have a challenge. Have a great day. Prayers for Char and Chief's mom.

Hello all

Just a quick check in during lunch.  Received some parts I ordered from Portlines for a few minor restorations, ordered and delivered in four days.  I ordered some parts from RFGCO, 01/19 and still waiting.  Oh well, glad I'm in no hurry!

Jim did a great job on that gateman.  Very impressive work.

May God bless

Afternoon all.  Been with reporter all morning.  Took him on the big tour of Roseyville.  He said it sure is nice here and a lot better than Ohio.  Nice guy originally from OK.  Said he thought I was the busiest Mayor in Wake Co.

Sun is out and it is warm.  Might get some flurries late tomorrow but now they think it is too warm.  Meal time calling as missed breakfast.  Later

I didn't have class today, so I took a trip to Best Buy to dispose of some of the money that I made recently.Big Smile  I got two PSP games, a car charger for the PSP, and a VGA cable to connect my laptop to my TV.Thumbs Up  I am all caught up on school work, so I might work on the layout or continue cleaning the rec room today.

Good morning all,

Re Maryland, North or South?  I think of Maryland as being a Southern State.  I think Mr. Lincoln more or less forced them to stay in the Union.

Navy Jack, Your fishing story sounds interesting.  Nice that your relative has a place to fish.  I miss it a lot where I live.  No good freshwater places near by and even the ones you drive to are too crowded.  I grew up fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and the rivers in Southeastern Viginia so I'm spoiled.  Used to like flounder best for eating but there were several good varietys then including striped bass which we called Rock Fish.  My brother is a lifetime fisherman and has been recognized as a top fisherman in his area.  He has lots of citations from the State of Virginia for outstanding catches.  That kind of citation is an award in Virginia, not a fine.

Have a good day all,

Ray

Visited the dinosaurs at the Field Museum. Then worked the rest of the day. Now off to prep for class. Saw two battered "Soo Line" newsprint cars in North Ave Yard on the way in this morn. They sure stand out in a sea of CN oxide red.

Good evening everyone.  Was a decent day.  One of the cases we did today was the same type that my mother had and didn't survive.  It was not lost on me while we were doing it.  All went well.  I finished that up and then had a little movie meeting over lunch.  Went to the favorite Sushi place, but I had the  TofuSigh as that was all that was allowed according to this diet.  Actually, it didn't taste bad, just not what I would have preferred.  Came home and finished taxes to send off to accountants.  While I was doing that, took delivery of a SOO train set from the 80s.  I already had the locomotive, but not the rest of the set.  One of the cheaper sets, but still fun to have.

Buckeye, Atlanta looks less like a bastion of southern charm each time I head up there.  Crowded, with so many different languages, it is getting more like a melting pot of the north.  Also, so many folks that I have run into from up there are actually northerners who have moved south.  Our new group leader for Sunday School is from Maine.  Been here 18 years and still sounds funny!

Hope each of you have a great night.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good Evening,

36 and raining down the Jersey Shore. Forecast of snow starting Wednesday night into Friday.

Rock Island 52: I special ordered that 1984 Ford F150 4x4 shortbed, 4spd, 302, in October, 1983 and took devilery February, 1984. My kids grew up around that truck. I put over 300,000 miles on it. I kept on top of all the maint. and repairs and it has been a great truck. He always wanted it and when he turned 17, it became his. He never asks for anything and he takes care of things around the house without being asked. The last big snowfalls we had, while I was at work with storm duty, he took care of snow removal, not only for our house but a number of people who needed help. I don't mind helping him at all. We finished the clutch slave cylinder and a few other odds and ends. We are going to change the fuel tank the next nice day I that am off because after loking it over, we are going to remove the bed and prep and paint the frame. Removing the bed will make changing the tank easier and we want to paint the frame anyway.

Take Care, John

Good Evnin', Ya'll, From The NE US of A,

Prayers continue for Char and Brutus, Chief's Mom, Roy's sister, Dennis' Dad, and all who need them.

Wife flew out to CA yesterday AM, is checking up on Ray, Don, DougDG, and Arnold.  I had to solo it last night, up to NH for dog training.

It looks like we are in for quite a mix of weather starting tomorrow and through the weekend, but Chief and his YankeeBlaster 6000 have been foiled again.......looks like mostly rain and mix here but snow points immediately West and North.

MikeC.....fingers crossed you get an offer, and one to your liking.

Dennis......we are doing our best to keep the snow cordoned off up here, no guarantees.  How on earth did you score a complete 1776 set for $66?  Some of the cars are going for that, each.

Jon.....is this THE record winter for snowfall for you or what?

Laz......you should build prototypes and send them to me.  I will shake them down and report back.

SJ.....isn't your snowblower self propelled?  Or are the wheels slipping on the ice?

NAVYJACK......glad to hear of your F7 score.

Buckeye......you are right, they grow up way too fast.

Maybe American iron isn't as far behind the imports quality-wise as folks are led to believe.  Toyota taking two steps back and the recall tally mounts.  The Feds should keep the Toyota execs squirming for a while.

DougM.....I agree, JimmyT's restoration is sweet.  What yours will look like.  I still have not figured out why he used wood filler on gateman's metal head (it was split).  I miss Chicago, so much to do and to see.

Rich......65 degrees, we won't see that for another two months.

Fife......I presume the pink flamingos have come out of hibernation.  Mating season soon.

JimSP....we have 2 Nuke plants due North of here near the NH seacost in Seabrook.  Despite our capacity shortcomings, you won't find another one being built around here soon.  NIMBY.  Coal fired plants are getting hammered for emmisions targets they simply will not be able to achieve, based on their economic feasibility studies.  Brutus.....our low sulfur coal still doesn't burn clean enough for the local EPA, importing cleaner stuff from South America I think.

OleTimer.....the word "North" puts a bad taste in your mouth?  Santa will be making his list and checking it twice.  High sulfur coal for you in your stocking!.

Later, gang.

Jack

 Hello All'

tried to post last evening but I kept getting 'system down for maintenance.

Haven't had much time lately.

Seems Mrs. Brutus is improving. Continued prayers.

BelatedHappy B-Day to a couple of you.

Only about a foot of snow left and it's all dirty looking. More is predicted before the weekend to freshen it up. Son has been enjoying his snowmobile. I'm getting a few things done around here. in between plowing snow. Running trains when I have a few minutes.

Youz guyz with the snow cannon please point it some where else.

May go to the Kittanning Train Show on Sunday, depends on the weather. Open house at the local train museum this weekend. Hope to take the grand kids.

Have to go to work early tommorrow so I can attend a "TEA" with my grandson tomorrow afternoon. Off to join my MRS. in bed

Prayers to all who may need them

Evening all.  4th of July meeting was success.  "New Blood" volunteers.  Been long day and tired.  Maybe rest tomorrow [I hope].  Got "spits" coming in and then turning to mix by 7 PM.  Another try by the Yankees to cause havoc in NC.  Not going to work.  Too warm.  Got early Human Service Board meeting at 7:30 AM Thursday.  Then drive to Concord [Charlotte] Bass Pro Shop for a long weekend sales event.  Maybe I will rest there [you think so].  Popcorn time and then crash.  Sleep tight.

Jack,

The early gatemen figures were made of a fiber composite with an internal wire frame for support.  These figures are often found with some sort of damage.  Cracking and swelling are not unusual.  Unfortunately, repro figures of this type have never been produced, so I had to get creative.  The wood filler allowed me to fill in the damage without stressing what was left.
