buckeye...do you live anywhere near the ohio river?

The Ohio River is two hours south or two hours east. Take your pick. South on US 23 or East on I-70.

Chief....I'm programmed to get up early and go to work so that you continue to receive that SS Check. When I stop working, the U.S. Mail is not going to be able to find Roseyville.

Evening all

Just got in about 8:30 been going since 7this morning.  After services we (the folks joining the Church) went to Columbus for the rite of election, where all of the folks from around the dioces who are joing the Church this Easter formally begin the last leg to acceptance into the Church.  Really neat service, but made for a long day by the time we got home.

I am going to relax with my bride for a while.

Good night and may God bless

Morning all.  Getting ready to head out to the hospital.  Going to hit the gym there before the OR.  As I type this, the rain drops are starting to hit the chimney flew.  Well, better rain than snow!  Chief, I think you got it for SS, but I am affraid I will be out of luck.

Saw where the US hockey team beat the Canadians, good news and perhaps more folks will watch it.  We rarely watch TV, except Science Channel, Cartoons, History/Military channels.  No news, no movies.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Mornin', Ya'll, From Dark But Clear Taxachusetts,

Starting tomorrow the weather here is going to be "unsettled" through the weekend......snow and rain daily.  So glad I washed the wife's car so thoroughly, including wheels, door jams, etc. so the fresh road treatment chemicals will show up nicely.  Banged Head

Dennis......re the FLA fatalities with kids getting hit by trains.....as a very young kid we played on the RR tracks all the time, flattening pennies on the rails.  Heard them coming from way off.  This one in FLA is tragic, is hard to figure .  We have the commuter rail running through our city and have lost 4 kids since we moved here, in separate incidents.  Three were HS teens cutting through the RR right of way and walking down th tracks, back to trains, with headphones on, didn't hear them coming.  The fourth was a little guy riding his bike to school with his mom and brother trailing on bikes!  Rode around the gate crossing.

Near miises more frequentl .  One woman took a right turn onto the RR tracks, car got hung up, then sat there in the car screaming until someone slapped her silly and dragged her from the car just in time, splat.   MAACO wasn't in the cards for that one.  Another woman got caught in between gates after she stopped in traffic on the tracks, also had to be pulled from the car right before the splat......never figured she could just drive her 4000 pound vehicle through the down gate or walk away from the car.  We also had an adult fatality at the commuter rail station......guy walks around a train stopped at the station and hadn't figured on a train coming from the opposite direction, splat, his view screened by the stopped train.  He didn't get to work that day....Many more incidents of cars getting clipped after driving around the crossing 7 at grade crossing gates here.  Folks just don't seem to understand the dangers.

Brutus......thanks for the info on the worm.  Don't feel bad about the hole in the wall.  I had a most unproductive day trying to fix under the cabinet lighting.  After process of elimination, it was the step down transformer, not replaceable.  Wife wanted these badly, individual round lights versus the light bars.  Hiding the wires was a nightmare during installation.  She'll get the light bar this time.  Re Chewy's special treat, our dogs have no preference, bacon or sausage.

Chief.....we Yanks are tough up here.  We don't wimp out and wait for shirtsleeve weather to fire up the grill.  No matter what, we grill year round.

22 year old girl who got struck in a hit and run down in Brooklyn yesterday lives 6 miles from here.  Life support.  Not good.  Her parents must be besides themselves.  Suspect at large.

Hudson 685.....sounds like you replaced half the truck!  Son owes you big time.

Navyjack.....keep it holstered.  Get a dog!

LAZ.....another snow delay/school cancellation?  You'll be teaching into July to complete the school year.

Later, gang

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 37 degrees. Going up to 42 today with rain or snow later. It will probably be rain. Lots of snow to melt yet.

Today is a busy day. I have some chores to do and PT, later, this afternoon. Ran trains for a few hours, yesterday. Got a lot of track cleaned. It needed it. Good Nascar race.

Dining car is here and it's the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana with temps in the 30s.  I was able to rest on the way into work this morning.  One of the benefits of carpooling.  Did get a floor lamp put together for the wife last night.  Been doing some more building with bricks.  Another step closer to new job, might be able to put application in today.  Hoping and praying.  Not much else going on.  Brutus, thanks for the software tip.  I will run a scan tonight.  Good thing I could drive the Tardis last nght.  Nice easy run.  I had a little extra on the dining car for breakfast as it arrived from "Points East" as apparently not all the donuts were gone.  TBIL anytime tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Oh, btw, big surprise on the 48 car winning yesterday.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Aloha all. Watched the race. Then went to a special worship night at church. Nice to see the generations mix a bit. Got up at 0-dark-30 to shovel snow. Not as much as I expected. Sure enough, just as I was hanging up the shovel, the plow came by and filled in the bottom of the driveway again. Had to laugh. Definitely heart-attack snow. Heavy and wet. Wasn't too bad coming into work. Poked around a bit more with the 45 Gateman last night too.

SJ sorry to hear about the snow there ... I know you hate it as much as I do . Everybody here takes over all the TV's watching the olympics ... I've seen just about enough though .... glad I've got the train work to do . Indenting some wood barrels with the scalpel to give the individual board look on the sides .... and top .... that's about it for today . Be careful out there all you folks with snow ....

Smileyou are right submmbob, the sub i saw was the triton, it was in the mothball fleet in san diego around 1967.  i was wrong about when it was made.  i thought it was number 2 but it was three i guess.  a submariner knows his subs.  yeah it was very long and it was different looking than the nautilus.  did you know that the greyback and the growler(regulus missle firing subs) were based on german technology.  the germans were planning on using a similar sub on us. we did not get the amount of snow forcast, only about three inches.  am counting the days to get my williams e-7(acl) of course.  take care guys.  navyjack

Happy Monday!

Train show was a success, did pretty good.  Still more to be sold, the BIG piece (the Swing Bridge) is GONE!  Had a good time with the princess.  Did honey do’s and grocery shopping with said princess.  Weather was really nice all the way up to NOW and it is pouring rain and windy.  In the 60’s.

Wife wants me to catalog all my train stuff – oh, yeah, right, sure, I have what oh, 2 or 3 days to do that?  Might not happen anytime soon.

Fighting a minor cold... more zinc, more zinc!!!!!

Saw that accident from Melbourne, tradgic for sure.

That’s all the news for now....work beckons again...

It is a good day, even with all the rain.  Got work done and then all the sales reps start paging me and trying to occupy my time when I had some working out to do.  Got all that taken care of.  Have some work to take care of to finish tax information.  Would be a lot easier if all the companies would send tax information in a timely fashion.  Got our World Vision donations information today.  It is alright in that I already know how much we donate per month, but if we didn't, or if I had already sent off taxes without this information, well, that is another chunk out of the pie that would be missing.

The local news is about the new nuclear power plant that they will be building near us.  While I do believe in it, it will mean fewer coal trains to the area.  Today, when I went through the yard, they had a large number of tank cars that they were assembling.  On the new yard lead that was recently installed, they had a substantial number of hoppers filled with peanuts.

Wife came in from a walk around the property yesterday telling me there is a leak at the well.  I head over there and find a 1.5" valve that was spewing water.  Probably from freezing.  Will stop off at the Home Depot to get some replacement and fix that later on.  Wife also wants to paint the den, so I guess we will pick some paint up while there.

Oh,oh. What does that mean? I don't know your wife, but if my wife asked me that I would start to wander:

Is she trying to find out how much I spend on this hobby? Deliveries are made directly to the train building.

Is she wandering if her spending is keeping up with mine? Although she has more to spend than I do.

Is she gathering ammo for a divorce? Doubtful after 50+ years.

Are the kids bugging her about their inheritance? If all goes according to our plan they will get less than half of what they are expecting. Still way to much.

I wander, would this subject make a good separate forum thread?

Good Morning

Yes, god has given is another day. And he is also blessing us with 6 to 8 inch's of snow. Not going out there till it stops....S.J.

Thank you Lord.  Prayers answered.  Now send it east and south some [to catch Ohizo, PA, then Maryland and then straight up the east coast to MA.  Whistling

Found excellent used JD mower at dealership for Oldest.  Been garaged and low hours.  Guy had just traded it for a newer model.  They will put in new battery and completely service before I pick it up.  Told Oldest Daughter I would get her a pink JD hat for her to wear while mowing.

Waiting for Wifey to come home.  Have coupon for Texas Steakhouse that has to be used.  Maybe she will go out to eat.  ?????

Chat later.

Hi guys

Official snow count at Det. airport 9 inch's. I'm guessing about 6 here. Really wet and heavy. 30s this week should get rid of some. Come summer the chief will be out in the 100 degree, 200% humidity we will be sitting outside in the cool 90s, so it all works out except for the tomatoes Sigh

Saw a neat show on The Woodwright Shop yesterday (dvr'd) about a sawmill/window frame company in NC using old style steam equipment - very cool!  Wouldn't want to accidentally touch one of those belts - yikes!

Hey Laz - did you ever get that CNC router thingie figured out?  They sure look cool, but very expensive.

Dennis - read the other day that the green power supplies that were being pushed don't earn back the energy to build them until they are near the end of their useful life?  Nuke is the way to go and they have good tech now for control and stuff.  Of course, nobody wants one by their house.  Trains magazine had an article about increased coal traffic and looks like the next issue will have more info - China wants our low sulfar coal as they are building power plants like crazy.  Another article I read was about how we could tip over into a "small" ice age in a pretty short amount of time as all this energy from the ending solar cycle could deposit a lot of snow high up and start the cycle.  If so, we are going to be really short on energy in our country.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening everyone.  Chief, had Grits for dinner again.  It seems that this diet leaves me hungry all the time, but with the food I am eating, I am sure I am going to lose a few pounds.  Since I am finally off call, I took some Tylenol PM so I hope I can get a good night sleep.  It would be nice to sleep past 3am for a change.

Brutus, I have heard about China buying the coal and steel.  Also, they say that concrete is in short supply as so much building is going on in China.  With regard to the cooling temps and potential next Ice Age, I wonder if we will see algore all over TV and making another movie on how we are causing global cooling?

Got a email from Chooch that my latest purchase is on its way.  Hope it is one of those times I am home before the bride to collect the package and bring it to the train room.  Got a complete 1776 set in the package, unopened for $66.  I have this same set, but it has issues.  Really don't need another, but I couldn't pass it up for the price.

Had a good conversation with my Dad today.  He is doing well, but still has ups and downs.  The guys from 2nd platoon had sent me a jacket with the 2nd's logo on it.  Real nice and durable.  It is similar to the ones the guys in FDNY wear with the treated canvas outer shell and the insulated inner liner.  I guess they don't want me to get too cold down here.  Actually, several of the guys I used to work with are retiring to Georgia because of the tax benefits for seniors.

Will continue to pray for Roy's sister, Chief's Mom, Char, and for the families of a few who have passed on.  May God Bless each of you and your families.
