Good night all. Did not finish my movie. Reclinerized.
Great new Brutus. Still in my prayers.
Sleep tight.

That was the best news, Brutus. I'm riding the same prayer train as Laz and the gang. Glad your dad's B-day was a good one.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Bright gray day today, in the low 30's. Calm before the storm? There are winter weather adviseories from west of Kansas City to east of St Louis for tonight. My son took off today for Bowling Green, Ky. to go to a Superbowl party with some of his friends. Advised him that he may want to think twice about driving back on Monday....
My Scout Law boxcar came in this week. Picked it up at the LHS Saturday and put some running time on it. I noticed that the doors now have a slight 'snap' to them when they close. That should stop them from vibrating open like most of my other box cars. Was cold enough in the attic that the 1950's vintage Lionel grease I used to lube the pivots on the power truck on my #600 NW-2 stiffened up and was causing it to derail on the curves.
We spent yesterday moving things around the house. It seems that if it weighed more than 40 pounds it needed to be somewhere else! But my wife is now happy with the arrangement in her sewing room (looks a lot like the one we had two arrangements ago!) the bedroom and the book shelves that had to move to the stairway landing in the attic. I got two book shelves out of the deal for the train room, so I dare not complain too much. I now have somewhere to put the trains that don't fit on the layout that keeps them safe and handy.
Great news about your wife Brutus.
Congratulations on your new job in Decatur, Steve. I think there is a Lionel dealer there, or maybe in Springfield. I remember looking it up a couple of years back and stopping by on one of my trips through the area. Seems like it was an insurance office/Lionel store. Small selection, no great deals though.
All for now.
Evening All !
Great Day !! Since it rained yesterday, decided to take the day off due to the rain. Only got about 3 calls wondering where we were, but it was great ! Spent the day working on my bridge redo. Removed it, disassembled, painted it, stiffened up the hinge points, (much more secure), reassembled, then wired it in. Previously used some "knife" type track pins, but decided to wire it directly. Took a little time but will make opening and closing the gate a lot easier.
While I was doing that wife was baking and cooking. One thing is for sure we will be eating well this week! Even have cookies and cake. (Tardis guys are welcome!)
Then had a real surprise, a cousin of mine who lives in Albuquerque called. Hadn't talked with him for a couple of years. Found out he just retired from the DOD after 39 1/2 years. Said some of the new rules were just to much. (He had a relatively important position.) Since then he had been doing some geneology research, said he found out that Jefferson Davis was a distant relative! (His mother and mine had maiden name's of Davis.) Now this is a real shocker!! Especially considering always considered myself a northerner. Wonder if that means that I will have to surrender my OTTS membership, or worse yet start eating Grits?? Probably have to find a Southern Dictonary too. Man I'm to old for these kinda changes.
Really surprised with the Super Bowl results, especially the on side kick after half time. Back to work tomorrow, and school also.
Ya All have a good day !
Don
Hi GUYZ,
14 this morning, awaiting next big snow tomorrow into Wednesday? While doing workout on treadmill got a phone call at 5 AM and yes gotta 2 hr. delay. Yea for me!!! I'll take it while I can.
Stay frosty,
laz57
Morning guys. Have to wait on breakfast as I have some fasting blood work to get done. I am surprised to hear the saints won. Glad I didn't stay up to watch it. Kids are watching Pink Panther cartoons...they are still good.
Don, In that case, I know of another relative of yours. He is a direct descendant of Jefferson Davis. A friend from the FD up in NJ. He has some of Davis' items in his basement. Has some of his uniforms, papers, and weapons. Should probably be in a museum.
Well, I had better head off to my appointment. Hope it is a great day for each of you and for Brutus, will continue prayers for Char and the gang.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cold minus 3 degrees. Cloudy. Going up to 22 today with no snow, yet.
Today is a busy day. I have some phone calls to make and paperwork to do. Then, the usual chores. This afternoon, I have my PT session. I'm beginning to really enjoy physical therapy.
Dining car is here and it's the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
Good morning all,
It is cloudy in SE Indiana with some more Shohio coming later on today. Not much else to report since last night. Could be busy at work today. The dining car rolled in from "Points East" with the regular fare for breaakfast. TBIL anytime tonight, but watch out for snow drifts. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Morning -
35 now up to 60.
Missed the shuttle launch as I slept in - 415 this AM. Forgot about it, actually.
SIL had 30" of snow and up to 30 today near the Beltway, her husband i(my bro) n the sandbox says it's 37 and rain.
Nice win for the Saints - now back to hockey season.
Breakfast of yogurt and tang.
Check ya later.

Aloha all. Getting the youngest off to school and then to begin a day of to-dos. He lost his sister's iPod which will be traumatic if I don't find it. Hopefully it's somewhere in the car. Boy, haven't had Tang in a long time. Bride slept through the launch.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Dang, I found it after crawling through the whole van. Daylight helped. Yippee! Trauma diverted for now. Hmmm, supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow (love the range) tonight....
Good Morning
sun and 11 when we woke this morning.
Snow expected tomorrow thru wed. 5+ they say. Can't complain we missed the big one guess I should say it missed us and have had bare ground for several weeks. very unusual for around here.
Doug with the two bottles of wine you sent with wife it's no wonder she slept late. Even awake I would not want to get up...Later all.....S.J.

hello gang, hope that the snow let you alright. we are supposed to get a storm through here tonight. had a rough weekend, there is a gentleman from chicago, who is going to build me a bedside layout and i am real embarassed. i have not talked to him yet. i guess that i will just have to accept his help in the spirit in which it is given. i would do the same if i could. my wife and i get tricare from being military retirees. i hope the pres's health care does not make it less effective than it is. i beleive there has already been a cut in medicare payments. drs do not like it. oh well hope the gevernment does the right thing. so far tricare is a big secret in the senate bill. had biscuits and tan gravy this morning....must have been a good boy.
Good Mornin', Ya'll, From Clear and Sunny Taxachusetts,
Caught up on all of the weather-related challenges of youse guyz over the weekend. SJ said it best, heart attack snow. We see it all too frequently up my way where the deep stuff, the drifting stuff, or the heavy stuff is a fact of life. Those who live in the more temperate climates getting hammered. And of course, having no practical need for a snowblower. When armed with nothing but a snow shovel, the matter can only be handled by keeping up unless one has a death wish. Don't think a snowblower would do Don, Doug, and Ray any good with the mud and the water. And Chief must be giving the beavers swimming lessons.
It was a fine Super Bowl for those who missed it. A most interesting game from start to finish because New Orleans refused to fold after going 10 points down and their coach was thinking outside of the boxes.
Brutus.....hang in there buddy, nothing but good news! Sounds like your honey may be reviewing her honey do list before you know it. You're probably in deep do do. I was thinking of you Saturday night when my wife and I attended a charity event for the Franciscan Hospital for Children here in Allston Brighton. They were auctioning off 6 hours of house cleaning.
Chief......we didn't get so much as a snowflake.
Steve......congrats on the new job. Remember the other side of the equation. The Decatur prices for a single family dwelling might make the financial end of things more palatable. Don't forget the 2010 IRS tax code which has a provision for tax credits for those selling and then buying......not just the first time home buyer.
OleTimer......#3 son has a snow plow or his friend? Either way, Dad has an edge.
Dennis......hope the little ones are feeling better and that you don't get what they have got. I am 5 weeks into the last plague my granddaughter shared. Meds took care of the big stuff, and the one ear is thankfully popping in and out.
Pat.....how do you go about moving all of that snow? My father (RIP, Chicago) used to joke that if he did nothing it would still all be gone by May. Plus he used his telephone as his primary weapon against the snow. As in call me to come over and get rid of it. Always rewarded me with brewskies. Re the grits. I have to admit that you tough Southern guys probably eat nails too. Taste the same.
Chuck......sweet 454 snowblower pics. That should be a new Extreme Sport. Drag snowblowing.
Laz......your "snow removal" post had me scratching my head. Why would you shovel a path through deep snow all the way out to your shed to get your snowblower which was at the ready?
Re all of the New Jersey comments, I lived in Edison (actually Avenel) off Route 35, about 2 miles from the junction of 1/9. Worked in Linden. Rahway was where you parked your car and caught the rail to NYC only to find your car missing when you got back. Memories of Stone Harbor and Asbury Park.
On a final note......picked up (from a new car GM dealer) an exceptionally clean 2007 AWD SRX crossover with 26K miles, certified pre-owned with an extended bumper to bumper warranty, clean Carfax, and manufactured in June 07. Based on the original sticker, I wouldn't want to be the guy who traded it in. He must have gotten ......"extremely financially violated." Time to wring out whatever issues I find. Will keep you posted as I am sure there will be a few. 500 page owners' manual and a separate 100 page supplement for some of the options.
Later, gang.
Jack
navyjack......this is great news! Hang in there.
You are right, accept the help in the spirit that it is given. Your service to your country. Your thanks to this helpful person. Recognizing the health care providers are doing their best. And perhaps a new friendship. Your wife thinks you bring enough to the table, then, now, and tomorrow. That's good enough for me.
The freakin' world does not have to be one where every single ledger is balanced. And there is a majority of good people out there despite what our media would have us believe.
Morning. Trying to take a day off from Town stuff [but will go in this afternoon for a short visit]. Going to the gym [about time you got back there]. Sunny and cool. Middle 40's which is about 10 to 12 degrees below normal for us. Will be that way most of the week. Rain tomorrow with some "mix" early.
Two big things:
1. Heavens to merkitroid!!! Foiled again. Jack did not get any snohio.
2. I am kin to Shake and Bake!!!! [My Dad's Mom was a Davis and kin the the great President]

When I related this possibility to my son, he was in a near panic. So I had to do some short term immediate investigation. Boy am I relieved!! According to Wikpedia,
Jefferson and Varina Howell Davis had 6 children, but only 1 survived young adulthood and married:
And her children would have been Hayes, so I doubt that just because a Davis name appears in the family, no issues!
What a relief !
Jack - To move the snow (all 28" of it) we are using the big tractor with a front end loader and a scrape blade on the back. Between the two we are getting the one mile drive done. Will finish tomorrow AM just in time for another 6+" of the stuff.
Like your dad, my phone is my primary weapon. One of the perks of my son living here on the farm is he gets to do the bulk of the plowing. Brewskies here to, although he prefers Grits!

Rockisland52 ... my son's friend has a used county snowplow truck .. you know those meatheads ran around all night plowing and NEVER came here ! I'm looking for my size 11 boots and am tempted to use both of them on them !
Pat .... looks like we're in for more snow here tomorrow night also ..... up to another 6" to a significant amount ... they say ... whatever those weathermen yo-yo's ... .... consider significant is .... good lord .... wife's gotta move to Florida like I want ! I've had enough .....
Doug ... our 6" to SIGNIFICANT amount of snowfall is a great range too ... oh well ... might have to brush up on my tunnel building before the winter's over... that 24 " + of snow is still all here .... now it looks like bucu more on top of it all till spring .....
Chief ... you are talking about the great president Jefferson Davis .... for sure .. arent you ?

We usually go out to eat and a movie as no one is there but us [well, af ew people]. One guy told me he did not like the Super Bowl but went to the parties just for the food and drink. I think that is true for a lot of folks. I have a Niece who will be 4 and going to her Birthday party. Off to the pond to check things out. Later. I saw a statistic yesterday that 51% watching the super bowl do so to see the commercials. They need to get a life! Pat

Good Afternoon,
People watching the Super Bowl just for the commercials? I will have to send them over to the GREEN MARTIAN! Maybe she can talk some sense into them!
Keep seeing snow in the northern forecasts! Down here in sunny south Florida the temp is near 67 in Feb. May get a little cooler by weekend. What's that I here in Georgia? It's cooler in Pooler! That's a Savanah GA saying for the summer.
Watched Snow Dogs the other night with my wife, there's an actress in there from the original Star Trek, Nichelle N.
Went over to the Bach Mann and not much new except the Peter Witt street cars are now due to be out in June of 2010.

Hellooo!!
Dad just called and Mom & Dad are making a hasty retreat back North. They were going to leave Wednesday, but decided it’s better to be back at headquarters (Dad needs to exercise the snow blower.....)
Stone Pony? Asbury Park? Spent many many Friday & Saturday nights crusin’ Ocean Ave right past the ‘Pony (which is still there). Madame Marie was there all the way up to last year, I think, she finally past away. It’s been years since I’ve been there...met my soul mate cruisin’ Asbury Park (nope, not the wife....). We still talk, she lives in Ocean Township (a bit north of Asbury) – a real Jersey girl...
And just to keep it train related, met a guy that that sells Weaver Box Cars decorated with images from the Palace and Tillie (look up Tillie, of local notoriety). He lives in Deland.

Helped out a fellow co-worker, has issues with his car, has a young wife and young daughter...changed out his spark plugs and wires (geez, what a pain), so he bought me lunch. A fair exchange.
Brutus – good news and let’s keep it going. We can always use >more<good news.
Sun’s out a bit chilly 56 outside. Rain tomorrow – wonderful.

Good afternoon,
Ran some trains yesterday afternoon, got to keep the batteries charged. Then made dinner for son's family (gave the wife the day off) and then we watched the super bowl. I enjoyed it. Not an avid pro fan, I just start watching pro ball after the college season is over. Now for NASCAR.
The snow plow did come by this afternoon and plow the end of my drive shut a little, I went out and started shoveling and the teenager that lives down the street helped me out. Nice kid.
Oops I forgot, Great news Brutus, hope she continues to improve.
hello guys, i guess we are supposed to get a foot of snow tonight.
pat i have never seen superbowl either. when i was on active duty stateside, i frequently worked weekends at the base, and when i did not i worked part time at a lumber yard to put shoes on my kids feet(those were the days when you could get a (job)i know you are always busy on the ranch.
Afternoon all. 8N, one way to keep the boxcar doors shut is to place a toothpick in the slide for the door. Just another tip I picked up in one of the "Tips and Tricks" book. For the Jersey guys, I grew up going to Palisades Amusement Park. I was heartbroken when the boat ride burned down....It was my favorite at the time. Now days, I'd take on the Cyclone! MTH made a Palisades Amusement Park car several years ago that I was fortunate enough to pick up. It is a nice looking car for those who are interested. There is also a video that was made on it . I purchased a copy and sent it to Mom some time ago as that was one of her favorite places to go.
After finishing work, wife and I had a little lunch date and then picked up the kids from school. Took them to the new library. Place is real nice and I found a small section on model railroading. Checked out the "101 Projects For Your Model Railroad". They also have a DVD section with some Train related videos. Should be plenty to keep me busy for the next several months.
Getting ready to head to church for a "Front-line Parenting" class that I will be working the camera for. These classes usually get quite a crowd form many denominations. Rather nice to see so many parents taking a active roll in raising their kids to meet the challenges of today. Plan on taking some ibuprofen to take away some pain in my neck that will only get worse looking through a viewfinder.
Have a great night.Dennis
The stints were pulled out today and I can breath! It feels so good!! Dr. told me to stay home from work until Wednesday and I have this saline solution to blow up my nose.
Don......I'm so happy to hear the good news. I knew it would be very hard on you if we were required to invalidate your membership in OTTS.
How about that Boilermaker yesterday? He and I ride on the same train.

Brutus, Great news on Char,
Hope all of you Easties are ready for another round of that sno-hi-o, don't sound good. Last I heard we are in for more rain starting tomorrow, so long as it isn't like what we got saturday morning.
After cleaning the wheels on some of the locos I tried a lash-up that I didn't believe would work together but they ran great. Two Atlas GP-15's with a K-Line GP-38 in the middle, all power units. If they make the museum run roster next friday chances are they'll show up in SPF next weekend.
Later !

Don and Dennis, that was facinating stuff about Jefferson Davis. I'm surprised too that the stuff you mentioned is not in the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia. I was there once and saw a lot of personal items from Lee, Jackson, J.E.B. Stuart et al. Wanted to visit the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond that day also where J.E.B. is burried but got there too late and the gate was closed. Did get a tour of the Confederate White House though.
My cataract surgery is scheduled for 7:30A.M. tomorrow. I won't be able to do some things for a while until the eye heals. No heavy lifting or bending over at the waist which rules out ducking under my layout. Looks like no trains for a while either.
Will report back here as soon as I'm able.
Take care,
Ray
