Afternoon all

Just a quick check in during lunch.  Been really busy at work and at home.  Got the 25052 Caboose yesterday.  It works really well and is very clean.  I need to replace the smokestack but that is easy.  I will try and get some new pictures uploaded.

Dennis – Any tips for Disney World?  The Grandkids getting excited about vacation next week going to see Mickey in Florida.  It should be fun, especially for them.

Chief – That Golden boy is one fine looking firearm  Ever be glad for a tick bite!.

Jon – Prayers for your friend and his friends and family who mourn.

Back to work

May God bless

Jim

Good morning all,

In a word, icky is the best description for the weather in SE Indiana.  Winds and clouds and cool temps.  Great soccer weather....not!  "My" soccer girls lost again 2-0 last night.  Probably will not win another game.  Got a horrible draw for the sectional.  Boys won and may have a winning regular season, but also got a horrible draw.  Went shopping at new Rural King store with the "saucy wench" last night.  Very big and carries a lot of stuff.  Also did weights and treadmill.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car this morning for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  Jon, sorry for your loss.  Brent, sorry to hear about the IVF fiasco.  Dweimer, sounds like a good trip.  TBIL, and I can drive after the soccer game.  May need a few Old Mils to make me forget the game.  I wonder if Don's neighbor knows any soccer moves.....  I bet she can make a good chest trap :-)   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all!
Pat, I agree, he probably would be good.  I have caught his show a few times (guys from our church were on with him).  But I also remember his platform was a little too liberal for me.  Who knows, but I do think he is honorable and would do the right thing as he sees it.  Like you, not trying to start any political wars.

Jim, if you have not already done so, look into the meal plan for the kids.  I believe they extended it and kids eat free on it if you are staying at one of the Disney resorts.  Also, Park hoppers are great, but not for the whole time.  Some days, you just need to stay the whole day at one place.  The "Fastpass" is a good option on the real busy attractions, but this time of year, you can get through the lines fast enough to not need them.  In Epcot, one of the best rides of all time is the "Soar'in" ride.  It is like you are in a glider going across the country.  Also, bring an extra memory card for your camera and if needed, another battery.  The Nikon D90 has a 11 hour battery, so that was plenty of time...did not need to recharge it the whole trip.

God Bless,
Dennis

Back to work from the inspections. Got the 'All Clear' from both electrical and framing inspectors. The framining inspector asked to see the framing for the deck... 'Um that was inspected and approved prior to anything going on top of it.' 'Really?' 'Yes, I have the approval note right here.' 'Well OK then.' Now there is a full room with roof, a deck with roof over it on top of the deck framing... what would he have done if I didn't have the plans with the approved inspection sticker with me? No way I was ripping $5,000 worth the carpentry work off the house!

Both of them were friendly and cordial. The electrical inspector told me to leave a few things exposed so he would be able to verify clearances around the wires... no problem there. Framing inspector told me to 'stuff some insulation in that hole' and that the vented soffits need to be replaced with non-vented soffits and the insulation needs to go from ceiling peak to the facia. No problem there! So now I'm onto the insulation and drywall. Hope to get the insulation done this week, the drywall up this weekend and next week. Anyone know if the walls should be drywalled first or the ceiling?

Brent,

With all state/government funded agencies, there is always an "option B".  Get your wallet ready...  Congats on not having to do that!  Wish I could say the same thing with us and the Columbus Fire Chiefs down on Lane avenue during game day.

I don't know you can deal with scum bags every day and still maintain your sanity, you have my respect.  I could share even more about this situation but I won't, it's time for me to move on but yet I can't imagine the anger that family feels or how those folks that tried to save his life at the scene must feel.

I'm headed into DM in a few minutes as there are 90 K9 teams here this week putting their dogs through the paces.  We used to have a German Shepherd so I'm anxious to see them at their best, what a great pet he was.  We never locked the doors for 11 years while he was alive, best doorbell in the world Thumbs Up

Brent, my Lowe's Home Improvement Book say to do the ceiling first - wall panels should  support the edges of the ceiling panels.

Brent:  Ditto on installting the gyp. bd. ceiling first.  The walls have continuous double top plates to install screws.  Joists are open between the spans at the walls, so the bd on the wall bd. will support the ceiling bd.

Thanks Pat and Kurt... now I have to call around to see about renting a life...

Jon - When I was stationed in Germany the post we were on was where the German National Army trained their guard dogs. They also had a breeding program. Was really neat watching the pups grow up then get trained... some of the most impressive training I've ever seen. I think they went through more rigorous training than we did! One of my friends (a German National lady) had a retired dog from the program... she would give it a command before leaving the house and a command when she returned - kind of like throwing a switch. One day I went to see her and walked in the front door and was instantly met by an 85lb dog, baring its teeth, and growling, all the while standing on my chest. Didn't move a muscle... all I could hear was her screaming and shouting the 'off' command. Next thing I knew my face was getting a bath... she asked if I was OK and I said 'Yes, mind if I use your shower?'

Buckeye --

I know that Fife owns a sailboat, case closed.  He's probaby the only one on this forum that is at peace and completely sane because of that boat.

Brent --

There's a terriffic book out written years ago about a Monestary where the Monks raise & train German Shepherds beginning at week 7 of their lives.  Higly sought after.  I did go in this afternoon but the sessions were over, I'll be there tomorrow, with camera and try and post some pics.  I shouldn't go, I'll want to own one again ...

I had a former student who's father was a state trooper and his assignment, with his beloved Shepherd, was to patrol I-80 looking for drugs.  She always encouraged me to come down and work with the dog wearing the protective sleeve, I passed.  They actually measure the strenth of the dog's bite to see if it's still OK, the Shepherd can crush a mans arm ...  I can't remember the number is but it was unbelievable.

Jon, Ft. Benning is up the road a piece.  They have a whole squad of military dogs and I've seen the demonstrations a number of times.  When you go on post, it has signs that say "Warning, This Installation Patrolled by Military Work Dogs".  I have seen them take down a very muscular 6+ foot soldier like he was a rag doll.

Well, evaluations are done.  Met wife and kids at the Ballet school after work.  When daughter was done, we all went to Pizza Hut for some dinner.  Came home and did some violin practice for the first time in over a week.  We all have class tomorrow evening.  Time for bed.  Hope everyone has a blessed night.

Good Evening from cool wet Southern Ohio

Dennis – Thanks for the tips.  Two of the kids are celebrating their birthday while we are there and my bride got some sort of special birthday thing.  Good tip on the extra batteries.

Buckeye – Got the car in the mail today.  Looks great!

Brent – I always did the ceiling then the walls.  A Tee bar to hold it helps a lot.  A drywall hoist is great if you have a lot to hang.  I would butt the long edge of the horizontal wall sheet against the ceiling holding it with my nail apron and leg, go around the room then come back and put up the lower horizontal sheet.  Stagger the butt joints.  Made the taping a lot simpler.  Several thin coats of mud will minimize the sanding

May God bless

Jim

Hey All !

Workin' on the halloween cars and had to make a trip to Michael's for some stuff. I know it is only the end of Sept but it sure seemed like they still have a lot of stuff on the shelf, especially with everything at 30% off. I just don't have any room left for anymore stuff. Really thought about picking up a halloween docksider but decided to just use the HEX engine and the halloween 4-4-0

Wow, was it ever nice today. Partly cloudy and only in the low 80's. Approve

Green97Probe - you are in!

Cold this morning, have to turn on the furnace if this keeps up!  Work is crazy this week - need a vacation!  Oh well, it will get back to normal shortly - new fiscal year about to roll over.

Tardis is ready to fly - Mike, you can take a turn in the dancehall, lol!  Kurt can drive tonight, I've got a game of checkers scheduled with Jim and Patrick can umpire (make sure he doesn't cheat again)!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Brutus,

             Thanks.

I got the MTH elevated piers that I needed, so I got a bit more work done on the layout after I finished my online class work tonight. I am getting very impatient at this point, and I just want to run trains again. "Upper Management" continues to be on me about getting the trains off of the pool table so that the light can be put back in place. I removed it before I put the trains on the pool table in March so that it wouldn't fall when the floor was being torn up on the other side of the basement. A week off would be be good right about now.

Good morning all,

It is supposed to be another IIABSDISEI, but it was cloudy this morning.  Not as cloudy as referee's judgment during last night's game.  He was absolutely horrible!  I talked to our local athletic director last night after the game and asked him to never have this clown back.  Totally inconsistent, no warnings before carding people, two red cards with 40 seconds to go in the game.  The only positive aspect is that he was bad toward both sides, and he did not cost our team the game (we did that on our own as we ended in a 1-1 tie).  We should have won by five, but we never took any shots.  There is more to this fiasco, but space, time, and profanity constraints limit me.

Work was extremely busy yesterday.  I had three tasks to get done, and I did, but it was a struggle.  At least the time went quickly.  I had a good time on the Tardis last night.  I needed it after the game.  Don's neighbor did not know much about soccer, but I am sure she could "bust" a game wide open if she ever showed up :-)   I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL, and I can drive after going to the YMCA tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' Fellas

Fife - absolutely NOT! Smile

Sturg - Thanks for the tip! I have 8 sheets to hang on the ceiling and the top is about 12ft off the ground. Since I only have myself, and maybe my FiL I reserved a lift for Saturday (I am getting it in the afternoon just before they close so we can hang a few sheets Saturday night and finish up Sunday morning). I am helping a friend, who has helped me extensively on the sunroom and screened porch, rip up a floor in his spare bathroom and possibly install a new sub floor. I have found the 'trick' about the mud! I have found that the more patient I am with applying it the smoother it is and the less sanding I have to do... that will help on the ceiling as it will be 100% above the head work.

Got about 90% of the insulation installed in the sunroom walls last night. I have to install a nailer in one corner so I have something to nail the drywall to, then I can finish the walls and start the ceiling tonight. Also need to get 2 sections of non-vented soffit so I can replace the soffits I hung a couple weeks ago. Rethought that too and decided to get some more F-channel for the outside edge, I think it will look better when it is finished. Should also help to seal the edges as well until I get the aluminum facia installed.

Not sure why but I'm really excited to see this project when it is finished....

Good Afternoon Y'all!

Has been a relatively good day.  I am on call, and since only a couple of small cases, I came in late.  After dropping the kids off at school, wife and I watched "No Country for Old Men".  Rather odd, but good.  We also have "City of Ember" to watch with the kids one night, maybe on the weekend.  Wife will be taking the kids to violin lessons tonight, while I watch the fort and get some paperwork done.

Ran into my fitness trainer from the gym today.....needless to say, I have been away and it shows!  Will have to get back there and get in shape.  All this tires me out and I know once I get back in shape, I will have more energy.  WIfe is on my case also, so its a good thing.

Take care,
Dennis

Don't ever think about running from a police dog, Holy Cow!!!!!!!  I just watched about 4 hours of USPCA National PDI Trials in West Des Moines, there are about 90 dogs here from all over the USA and it was amazing.  Today's exercise was the criminal apprehension and it was very cool, in a nutshell---the dog and handler were on the goal line (footbal stadium) and the bad guy was on the 30--they both took off at the same time and in most cases the bad guy was caught at about the next 30 to 20 with the dog hanging on to the arm (HUGE cuff), the handler had to catch up and give the verbal command to release (some in German).  A few of the bad guys (other handlers) were taken to the ground but most stayed on their feet.  There were other exercises that they had to do but that one was the best :)

I repeat, never run if there's a police dog bearing down on you, he or she is MUCH faster.
