Back from Michigan.  Had a good time at the reunion.  There is something special about that group of people.  We worked together from the late 70's until the early 90's.  Seems like we are more family than co-workers.  That connection is missing with the group I'm working with now.  Spent Saturday visiting mom & working on her 'to do' list.

Stopped at I Love Toy Trains store in New Buffalo and Bob's Hobby in Watervelete.  Both interesting stores.  The only thing I bought, though, was a bottle of LaBelle 107.

Sounds like York was an enjoyable experience for those who went.

Was going to mow the lawn after work, but about an inch of rain at 4pm fixed that.

Looks like I had the winning bid on an Autolite boxcar on e-bay, and I need to check the bid on the tank car, as that auction ought to be ending about now.

Later, all.

Good evening

Well I went out with the trimmer and got lost in the high grass. I decided that it did need cutting in spite of the spongy ground. Actually the mowing went well. 82 today but this is the last for awhile back to 60s. thats ok too. No trains today but I did chat with Charlie about his new Berk. Forgive me but we ate the  last of the banilla over brownies but we can always go back and get it first.   S.J.

Dennis, where are those photos of you and the Chief doing the 4 wheel thing?  I could go for a Moon Pie right now.  I was toothless all day today while my upper partial was being repaired.  Would have been a good day for grits.  Glad you all had a good time at York.  Wish I could have been there with y'all.

Laz, I love Yosemite too.  The last time I was there was a tragedy though.  My sister visiting from Florida had a fall in the shower at our cabin and had a fracture in her back.  The whole trip was wrecked and it happened on the first morning after we got there.  All she saw was a little of the valley and we did drive up to Glacier Point that first day and saw the waterfalls and Half Dome from a distance.  It was beautiful.  They had to take sis to a hospital in Modesto and she was there for a week.  She stayed with us until she was well enough to fly home.  I have'nt been back to Yosemite since but would like to go again some time in the Spring to see those falls again.  Those bears can be a problem in the park though.  They say not leave anything in your car overnight or they will break into it.

DENNIS,

Glad you had a safe trip hope.  Your right ear is probably twice the size of the left on the account of DA CHIEF talking all the way home.  Glad to meet with you and my wife gave me the MOONPIE that you gave her.  Its on the counter and I might eat it for breakfast tomorrow?  Was there any foriegn substance on it?  Say GRITS?

Now work on that layout and come back up in the fall only 6 months away.

Now your talking dennis a GP-7 NYC bob keller will be proud of youBig Smile in fact shocked he didn't try to get it away from you. I have a GP-9 tmcc NYC in fact its one of the first tmcc lionel did ( that model not that engine it self) 1996 built. Still runs great. guess I do want to sooner or later add coil couplers for it thou. (never had them) they do have a add on for them thou.

Dennis didn't realize you had the 4x4 mercedesWhistling. Have seen them but never rode in one. had a guy when I was in FL I was doing some plumbing work for that had one it kinda looked like a oversize sidekick but this thing even had wipers for the head lights lol.

Glad the trip was a good one. Glad you all had great time and great meetings.

Did do a little this afternoon like weed eat the yard and crawed under house to see what all I will need to run gas( Propane) line for the stove and the gas fireplace we have in the living room.

Well will talk to you all later.

Afternoon Y'all!  Sorry it has taken till now to post a York Report.  Got home about 17:30 and took the family out to dinner.  Did not want to jump on the computer as it would have been a bad move in the eyes of SWMBO.  The booty call is this:  One Legacy engine (NYC GP7), Three Atlas boxcars(Scale Central of Georgia) with 3 different road numbers.  Also got a "I Love Georgia" and a "I Love NJ" boxcars.  Filled the trunk with some additional people for the layout, and a friend who owns a train store gave me a boxcar as well.  Had some fun with the guys from the forum.  CTT staff is great too.  Handed out some goodies, including some Moonpies.  Found out that the "Rare and Expensive" boxcar makes a great wheel Chock for a tractor!

Chief and I had a great railfan trip the first morning, as you can see in some of the photos.  What he didn't tell you is that we also did a little 4-wheeling in the mercedes....glad the bride didn't see that!  But we did get some nice photos.

Regarding the negatives from York:  I only have two.  1. You can never have enough money for all you would want to buy.  2.  Your legs will hurt regardless of the shape you are in.  It is a lot of walking.  For those in need, the power scooters are the way to go.

Was great!  look forward to another trip in the future.  Bride wants more progress on the layout first though.

Dennis

SPMAN,

I've been to YOSEMITE twice now and still love that park.  When we were there both times went up to VERNAL FALLS.  Very pretty, we were going to go the rest of the way up to HALF DOME but it met coming back down in the dark.  Next time I want to leave early and go up to the DOME.  I heard you have to actually pull yourself up to the top via a cable?  Sounds real exciting.  Back in '86 my BROTHERS and I went out to ESCONDIDO to build SISTER and BIL house.  Lots o fun then.  Saw all the site of SC then.  Nice but we did get there house under roof.  At YORK we ate at DENNYs on RT30.  Love those little trout up there at 10000 feet.  We went over I think 13000 feet, wife got a little altitude sickness, but I felt fine.  Had to go from bear box to bear box to stow food at night.  Boxes were about 15-18 miles apart.  Met up with a ranger that told us to do that because bears were very aggressive that year of '96.  Had great hikes, would love to make it back there?

Laz, Wow, you're some hiker.  I never walked that far even when I was young.  Once, I hiked in about 5 miles from the main road to a high country lake to fish at Yosemite but that's about it for distance.  We did hike from the valley floor to the top of Yosemite Falls and also from the valley floor to Glacier Point on our first trip there.  They still had the fire fall in those days from Glacier Point.  I was there when President John F. Kennedy came and they had a super fire fall that night.  It was a big thrill for us to see him and the fire fall.  I was out fishing the day he arrived by helicopter and he landed near where I was fishing on the Merced River.  My wife and I got a close up look at him.  He was driven to the Awanee Hotel in an open car after he arrived.  His Press secretary, Pierre Salinger was also in the group  along with then California Govenor Edmond G.(Pat) Brown. Those  trout you caught may have been natives or else planted as fingerlings.  They do that from airplaines up there.  The very high lakes above 10 000 ft I think have Golden Trout.  They don't get very big either but are highly prized by anglers.  The legendary Chuck Yeager of Rocket Plane fame wrote in his book about going up in the High Sierras for those Golden Trout.  I have never seen one myself except in pictures.

I have lived in Southern California since 1958 but I have never been to Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Park either.  I finally went to Catalina Island for the first time a few years ago.

Thanks for pointing yourself out in Chief's York picture.  Where did you guys eat?  We used to go to the Round The Clock Diner for breakfast.

Prayers for all those who are suffering.  Have a good week,

Ray

Good Morning fellow & former Yankees...Laugh

Took a few minutes to catch up on the ‘pot.  Glad you York traverlers are all back home with yer booty....safe & sound...Pirate

Had my own little adventure this weekend.  The big green “e” had Universal studios all to ourselves Friday night.  Free food, wine soda & beer all night (saw one of my co-workers lit up, his girl friend took care of getting him back).  Hardly any wait time on the rides, over ate.  Got back to hotel about 1:30 AMDinnerZzz

Saturday was the best, the weather was gorgeous and we left for Disney after 9 AM.  It was my birthday and I got a pin and a special admission ticket.  Made the all aboard announcement (my daughter told the engineer..) and the Roy O. Disney died on the tracks.  Go figure....Banged Head

All through the park, people were saying Happy Birthday to me.  I was even dusted with Pixie Dust.  We closed the park down (after 11 PM).  This place really is magical.  I really had one of the greatest days of my life with my kids.  Fireworks ended the experience.  What a day!!Big SmileCool

Last night the bride presented me with a birthday cake and a conductors hat.  Mom sent some Italian nougat candies (from Italy!!) and some cash and my Godmother/Aunt, sent me some cash also.  Really hated the weekend to be over.Sigh

I’ll be posting pictures and video of the Roy O. Disney later, and Doug, I haven’t forgotten your CPI car....between hospital and this weekend, it’s been tough, but I’ll get pictures this week...PROMISE!!!

Sunny and going to the 80s. Dreaded storms tonite again.

Poor Charlie, it could take weeks for me to degrit him.

The grass is growing now big time, have not done first cut yet. The back yard is like a wet sponge. I am going to gas and run the trimmer though. Oatmeal and toast  for breakfast, that will do for now....S.J.

Patrick, I saw that thread too.  One comment explained it all.  They did'nt need 42 more me too's.  I get benifits from both forums but this one is a lot more tolerant of people just shooting the breeze.

Laz, funny you mentioned catching Brook Trout.  I am currently reading a book by former President Carter of his hunting and fishing experiences.  He does a lot of fly fishing.  Never done that kind of trout fishing myself but it sounds like a challenge.  I got some strikes with a fly once at Yosemite National Park just attached to the end of a line on a cane pole.  Could'nt let the fish have it so they would just hit and bounce off.  Here in Southern California about all we do is trout fish with salmon eggs or floating cheese bait types.  People do fly fish up in the San Gabriel canyon on the West Fork of the river up there (really a creek by Eastern standards) .  It is strictly catch and realease with barbless hooks.  Some wild trout in there they say.  BTW were you in any of those pictures taken by the Chief at York?

Ray

SPMAN,

My WIFE and I did a great backpacking trip on our honeymoon in KINGs CANYON just outside of YOSEMITE.  We backpacked 85 miles in the high country.  GREAT TIME!!!!  Lots of wildlife and got some great fly fishing in on the cut throats up in the high country lakes.  Caught a bunch but not too big only about 7-8 inch mark.  Prior to that the week before we did a 45 miler around SHOSHONE LAKE in YELLOWSTONE National Park.  Big Cutthroats there, had a few on over 4 lbs.  Great time. I'm sitting next to the CHIEF at breakfast, and in backrow next to MARTY and ROY.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is another beautiful day. Sunny and up to 88 degrees.

Today is a busy day. Lots of chores around the house. Later, I will relax. Need to spend some time in the train room. It's dusting time again.

Where is Buckeye....He is enjoying the great weather up North. 40 degrees and a cold rain. He loves it. Probably fishing.

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s again.  Rain will come in tonight so I will have the Beacon lit at high intensity.  Watched "Desperate Housewives" last night.  Slept well.  Dennis, I had a dream I was watching one of your movies and then found myself on the set while you were doing another.  Then the alarm went off.  Based on Kansas, May could be another boring, predicatable month with 7 of the top 8 positions being filled by Team Red or Team Green.  The only reason it was not a sweep is that Mr. Ashley Judd crashed and Graham Rahal picked off the weakest link in the chain of 8.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning for breakfast before sending it to "Points East".  May send an extra to "Points West" to help out those with all the rain.  They not only are good for the "innards", but they make good water absorbers as well!   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Brutus, If memory serves correctly you have the halloween handcar. The pumpkin head guys, do they flex or bend at the waist as the handles move up & down? One of my many projects is to repaint a K-Line speeder for halloween and was thinking of trying to use the pumpkinhead guys as the speeder occupants.

Yep, I've got it - I'll have to go find the tub it's in and let you know Doug - I'll check tomorrow, too late now.  Sorry I didn't read this earlier as I was in the basement most of the day, lol!

Son and I drywalled around a door in the basement hallway, then took a few hours to fabricate a vent cover and put it in a wall for a return air supply.  This one goes in the hallway.  I will put another in the bedroom.  They are down low near the floor to get good cross ventilation from the ceiling where I'll put the supply venting.  Son also spent some time breaking down drywall scraps for the trash.  I let him use the cutter all by himself, but I have to admit I was paying attention and listening for any cries or cusses or anything, lol - made me nervous, but I thought he needed to get that little slice of manhood under his belt.  He did a good job - some pieces were a little too big still, but it was hot out and he was dressed for working in the basement, so he was getting tired.

Nice chat with the guys tonight - Tardis is ready and I see some beacons, so I'll take off now - TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I'm home from York safe and sound, contrary to some reports that I had been kidnapped by some Rebels and forced to eat grits!  :)

Since we felt sorry for Charlie, Dennis and I let him go after he finished his bowl of GRITS.

Home finally.  Got to lake house yesterday to discover the grass [I fertlized too much] had grown double from last Friday when I cut it.  Had to mow it twice but waited until buddy Dennis hit the road this AM.  Then cut hole in gable end of boat hose/shed.  Framed it up for and installed shutter.  Then installed gable end fan with thremostat.  Drove home after trim mowing with push mower.  Ate dinner and took a shower.  Spent time with wifey since I had been gone so much.  [BTW: She had spent several days at the lake house with her "buds".  They left after dinner last night.]

As far as York being MTH, biggest lie been told.  I bought some MTH because Lionel does not make modern NS diesels.  SJ, you would love York.

Can hardly stay awake so here are TWO big announcements.

While railfaning in PA [which is wonderful]

and being guided by phone by Fifey, we came to this intersection:

and right across the street was this:

We knew we had won the war. Whistling

Next big announcement:

You Yanks have been "GRITSED" again.  You just love those tiny little LED flashlights.  Well, inside the barrel of each one is a few dried GRITS.  ShockWhistlingLaughLaughLaugh  LAZ took three of them!!!!  Laugh BTW: I would not try to remove them.  Removing and reinstalling the end with the chain is a B---H. Other end even worse.

Now I can say, "Good night.  Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite." [there is an epidemic of them they say]

My only comment about some of the whiners on the "other" forum is they are infected with a relatively common condition-optic rectumatitis. If any of you would like a non-technical description, sned me a pm or an e-mail. It really isn't appropriate for THIS forum. The other one-yes!

Evenin' Fellas.

Was nice to see everyone at York and to finally meet Dennis and DonInCT. Good to see Chief again too.

Bought a bunch of people to populate the town, the buildings to build the Domino Sugar plant, 4 buildings to build the theater, ROCK PS-1 boxcar, C&O Stock car, tow truck with flashing lights, 2 flatcars (one with Sherman Tank, 1 with 'Duce'), couple TCA items, and preordered the 40th anniv TCA PS-1 boxcar... did well IMHO. Got home and found that I could have bought the other 3 PS-1 boxcars I saw, but oh well there is always October.

Saturday was very event filled. Electrician showed up, installed a can light in the spare bathroom over the shower, moved the oven outlet into the wall so SusieQ can get her new double oven stove, and ran a new line and installed an outlet for the garbage disposer... everything works, but I have a hole to patch in the basement ceiling from running the disposer line.

Today I vacuumed the leaves in the back yard (leftovers from Fall), mowed and bagged the lawn, the washed the cars with SusieQ... tired... very tired.

Finished an exhausting light-saber battle around the house with the youngest before bedtime. It cleared up and is actually getting warmer as night comes on - mid 70s now - hope that's the weather you get instead of the previous storms. Maybe I'll go out and sit on the deck. Love it still being a bit light outside.

Evening all!

Doug:  I picked up one of the Evans Design Warm White LEDs as well, but yet to have it installed.

Spent this afternoon working on some flush joints...plastic router guide fell apart, and I ended up routing thru the jig.  DOH!  Ordered new jig, and metal guides.

Bride still working around the clock, so it was off to Church with the little ones...guest speaker gave an interesting talk on Paul, and how he handled the variety of dieties as he spoke to the Greeks.  Some Art by Raphael... to further emphasize...Boy this speaker had me all the way thru.

Another beautiful 78 degrees and sunny here.  I keep waiting for the Chicago weather...

Kurt
