Happy Friday to everyone!  Another rainy/grey day here, really need some warm weather--maybe next week.  Great progress on the sun room this week, almost done.  Electrician comes Monday,  a little bit of dry wall where we took off the siding and then the floor and that's it, hope it's all done and clean by one week from today, that would be very nice.

The boss leaves Sandy Eggo late this AM and arrives at 6:07, need to do a bit of picking up but not much.  Much too quiet around here without her!  I think she's felt like she has missed all the fun here with the construction going on although at times I needed to make an excuse to be gone, there's only so much noise I can take.  Did get some serious train running in last night and before I knew it, it was time for bed.  Sure hope she brings back some California warmth.

Morning all. Watching the trains come into downtown through the clouds from the 67th flr.  Like looking at a layout. Too high up for me. Rain trains with the Susie-Q briefly last eve. Got my annual review at 11.  Wish me luck.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Sprin-kul-lee and 63 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Have to pull somewhat of a double today.

Wizzer ---> Sign - Welcome.  Are we Western NY as in Buffalo, or Lake Champlain?  Annnddd...if you have a loop of track on a piece of plywood, you have a layout. Good morning all,

It is cloudy and rainy in SE Indiana today.  There was a "window over Terre Haute" (and anybody whoever listened to an Indy 500 radio broadcast during a rainy day knows exactly what that means) last night and I bailed....er... mowed the yard.  Managed to get it all done before A) the rains moved in and B) darkness fell.  Was it the best mowing job I ever did?  No, but it was serviceable considering the circumstances.  Before that I did weights at the YMCA.  Did some Second Life.  Read some of the latest Trains magazine.  They had a one page article on how the local shortline scored the Honda account for Greensburg.  It helped they had connections to two Class I railroads, (CSX and NS).  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning before sending it to "Points East".  Beacon is lit and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Howdy from a rainy St. Louis where I had a nice talk with RT, SJ and Charlie tonight and didn't have to go perform surgery on another computer instead - sorry for the other night Doug.  I love all those small Brit trucks and vans, very neat.

8nt - Wife just had all those tests, lol!  She's doing well now, just had a CT (cat) Scan and they found the source of anemia is splenomegaly - enlarged spleen.  Could be from an old virus or something?  Will see a specialist on Tuesday next week.

4 pages of stuff, just too much to comment, lol!  Welcome Gee Wizzer!

Headed out now, catch you guys on the Tardis in a few!  Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Just spent a couple of hours with Charlie. He bought a bottle of the new no scent Mega-Steam and we could not smell it so those of you with wives that don't like smelly smoke here's one for you. It's called NADA. So we ran some trains, talked some trains and just enjoyed.

It was nice.. I thought about NADA but trains :)

Thanks Patrick for your kind comments, I loved making that video with my oldest son--between the two of us it worked out very well.  I did 3 racks of smoked ribs w/bean recipe last Sunday as he was here with his family for the boss's birthday--we halved the bean recipe and it worked wonderfully, very few leftovers.... dang it.

Outdorr - A

Laugh

Wes....When the cheap and crappy North Carolina Box Car leaves Ohio should it be hauling:

A. The smart flu virus from OSU.

B. Buckeyes from Southern Ohio

C. Moon Rocks from the Armstrong Museum

D. A keg of Budweiser from the local plant

E. A new Honda Accord from the local plant

F. Amish Fertilizer from the locals

G. Autographed photos of William Sherman

H. Autographed photos of U.S. Grant

For the box car repaint, I bought the cheapest Scarlet and Gray Paint I could find.  It says not to use it on plastic, so it should be perfect.

Anyway, best part about EGD or Colonoscopy is the nap you get after they give you the medicine!

I agree.  When the nurse woke me up, it was like getting jogged awake in the middle of the night.  I wanted to roll over and go back to sleep.

Gee Wizzer---welcome aboard, this is a fun forum but your biggest challenge as a newbie will be sorting through the BS & Grits---sorta one in the same Laugh

My only advice is to go slow and see if you really enjoy the hobby, perhaps buy a complete set and just play with it.  That was what happened to me 11 years ago after a long absence from the hobby, the boss bought me a nice MTH Amtrak set for Christmas and that was the beginning of the end.  It reignited the fire and desire I had for O gauge but could never afford.  Long story short--kids gone, more room for me downstairs and I was two years away from retirement, upon retirement I lived downstairs just building and loving every second of it, the boss became heavily involved in scenery building and we just had a GREAT time.  IT'S A GREAT  HOBBY that we have had countless hours enjoying, for us it was the building process that was the most fun.

Here's a video we made two years ago, enjoy.

Ole Timer, whatever you do, don't use a Instant Grits logo.  Make sure it is the real thing!

8N, the procedure is easy, it's the prep that will kill ya!  Where did they get that name....Go Litely...yeah, I don't think so!  On the same subject, never heard of it referred to as a #1615 0-4-0, but if you got it cleaned and lubed, all the better...oh wait, you were talking about an engine...my bad!  Anyway, best part about EGD or Colonoscopy is the nap you get after they give you the medicine!

Getting ready to head home.  Hope it stays quiet till Tuesday.

Welcome Wizzer.  Check out the Sunday Photo Fun threads.  You will find pictures of many of our layouts there.

I've done well on E-bay this week.  Finally got the last piece I needed to re-create a #11252 Texas Special Diesel Freight set from 1962. I'll post pictures on SPF in a couple of weeks when everything is here and all cleaned up.

60's cloudy & threatening rain here today.  Hope we don't get much more.  Last night's heavy rain backed up through my basement floor drains.  Gotta clean the basement again.

I'm spending a quiet afternoon after my date with an endoscope this morning. I'm debating wheather or not to use the souviner picture they gave me as my avitar for a little while.

Ran trains for a bit and am going to give my #1615 0-4-0 a cleaning and lube.

Chief, Laz - idle thoughts while I was on my clear fluid prep diet yesterday.  Don't you think 'shine and beer qualify as clear liquids?  My wife didn't think so.

Looks like I may have to go with the Quaker logo .... was hopeing for an old time company . Local decal/sticker place here will make any if you bring in the pic . I'm not going to try to airbrush it .... letters and numbers are easy ... but man I can't do faces . I know there was a company like the cream of wheat woman logo .... don't know if they made grits .... anyone know it's name .... had the black woman with the bandanna on her head ? Just started digging in my box of cars ... don't know exactly how many spares I'll have . Another is going to be a CAT HOUSE - BOX car .... my grandad said there was always one of them near the train yards in every city .... a cat house .... as he called them . Wonder how he knew ..... LOL . It'll probably be a statonary building made from a box car though .

Afternoon all!

First fatal mowing this morning...I was able to spend last night ni the garage with the Snapper last night, and get it tuned up.

Don:  Wow how a simple question can run amuck.

Rich:  Hope your bike is working, and you can finally get some enjoyment out of it.

Ole Timer:  Decal sheets are available that will work in your printer.  How 'bout this one?

Good Late Morning everyone!  Was a long night, and a early morning, but should be a nice rest of the day.  I say this, but when I get home, I have two things to face.  First, Chooch is delivering yet another item...SWMBO will love thatBlack Eye  Also, my parents are coming down tomorrow and so I am sure I will have quite the list of honey dos.  Took care of framing a picture and hanging same on wall last night.  Also fixed door and patched a few picture hanger holes in the walls.  Fixed the dryer vent and some other odds and ends.  Today, I have to cut the grass around the house and spray some pesticide to get rid of the mosquitos.  They are bad this year.  Tomorrow, I have to pick up the folks, bring them to the son's "Field Day" at school and then come in to work.

Gee Wizzer , good to see you checking in.  I think the majority here have some kind of permanent layout, but we have all kinds.  Even some that only get set up around the tree come Christmas.  For your situation, I'd suggest you keep along the lines you are for now.  You can build a frame for your layout with some 1x3s to support the plywood, add homasote on top and then screw the fastrack to the homasote.  You can either screw some casters to the bottom of the layout frame so it will store under a bed, or just use the same saw horses.  Experiment with some different layout plans and you can build a respectable pike that brings both you and the grandchild some enjoyment.  Then, if you wish to dedicate some area to the trains, you can build something of a more permanent structure.  TM books and video has a DVD out on "Building an O-Gauge Layout" that has some good ideas on making this type of starter setup.  The thing about this hobby is that the most important part is to have fun.  Enjoy it.  remember, it is not the destination, its the journey.

God Bless,
Dennis
