Good morning all,
Laz, Our tomatoes are doing great this year also. Best crop in a couple of years. They like the heat and as long as you can keep water on them, they will do great. I have been using the back flush water from the pond as well as regular watering.
Have to go to a 25th Anniversary Party this afternoon, UGH. Doubt if we will know many people except the couple being honored as they are relativly new neighbors.
Later,
Afternoon all!
Preparing for my big raid into OHIZO. I now arrive next Saturday morning in Cleveland around noon. Had to change since first HS football game and marching band debut is Friday night (I had though it was this past weekend). If things work out - I hope to stop by the OTTS scene, but it would have to be Sat afternoon if any of you are around.
Well talking about daughter learning to drive. Wife calls me in a panic yesterday morning. Daughter while driving with my wife in the car on some errands grazed a curb. Now normally this would not mean much, but in this case the curb was broken (local infrastructure around here is in real bad shape). The result is the two drivers side tires had the sidewalls ripped open and the front wheel (AL) shattered, separating the wheel center from the rim, causing the front end to drop. The rear wheel is badly gouged and is worthless. The front wheel suspension is pushed back about 2-3 inches. So far the damage is well north of $3000. Wheels and tires alone are $1500 (I hate cast aluminum wheels) and we had just invested in new tires a couple of months ago. OUCH!
Jim F - congrats on your anniversary today!
.
Regards, Roy
Pouring rain here - finally - big storms in area. We can sure use it.
Got an inch of rain in 10 minutes. Might be more on the way.
I have seen a Hummer commercial a couple times that is interesting because of its contradictions. In this commercial a hummer bypasses a gas station. Apparently the message is supposed to be that there gas mileage isn't as bad as one would imagine. Funny thing is, that when the vehicle passes the gas station in the background is a commuter rail train. I wonder what the intended meaning really is but can't help but laugh because if more commuter rail was available, the need for gasoline would decrease even more.
Rained here early morning, but hasn't rained since daybreak. I want to spray the lawn with weed killer later but its getting real hot now. Crab grass has just about taken over this year. Too much rain then not enough.
Hey Roy,
We will make time for you, just give me a call. I sent you an e-mail with my phone number, in case you sitll didn't have it.
I will see if other OTTS boys, like John and Keith are around. We can meet here at my place and also stop by the museuem, it's only 3 miles from my place.

Good afternoon, everyone!
Jim, Congratulations on the anniversary! I wish you and your wife many more!
Roy, Sorry to hear about your daughter's accident.
I'm typing this in Langenburg. School starts again on Sept. 6 and I'm back here taking it easy until then. I left my work at the museum last week. Yesterday was my birthday-I finally hit the big two-oh! It feels great to be officially out of the teen years now!
Last week I had problems with my computer at my apartment. I'm not the most techno-minded person around and was freaking out about the whole thing. I actually had a computer repair guy come to look at it and it turned out that all it needed was a new keyboard!

Greg...We used to have an interurban line that ran from Cleveland to Marietta. And we had street cars that ran in Cleveland. Makes you kind of wonder.

Well we just got back from the 25th Anniversary party, wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Spent quite a bit of time talking to the groom's Dad, didn't know him before but turned out to be a very interesting individual. Also ran into a gal who went to high school with my sister in the late 40's.
Roy, Sorry to hear about your daughters accident, hope that doesn't hike your insurance rate. Brings back memories of teaching two daughters to drive, didn't have any accidents, just took a few years off of my life expectancy. We could use rain here, but really don't want an inch in 10 minutes.
Jim, I think I forgot to congratulate you on your 12th anniversary. I sent you an email about some Haloween stuff.
Sask_Tinplater, All the best in your upcoming year at school.
All have a good evening.
And 8 pages to go!
I'm back in Ohio after helping all the step sister and step brother put together the 50th Wedding Anniversay Celebration for our parents. About 150 plus people showed up and more than likely I will somehow get to foot the 1/3 of the bill when there are four of us.

Thanks guys - seems like just yesterday! Rained all morning and I have a headache, probably sinuses, and I think I chipped a front tooth this morning eating a celebratory Cinnabon - bit the very tip of a fork tine somehow! I think it's okay, but going to try and get in to the dentist tomorrow or so anyway.
Roy - sorry to hear about the car. You have to be very careful with the aluminum stuff. A buddy had new tires put on and they torqued them on too tight and warped the wheel assembly (?).
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
OK !! ROY is coming !! We'll have to alert Buckeye & Chuck !! Boy, this is going to be big !! I can't wait !!
I couldn't get the crayons to work very good, but I tried !!
Thanks, John

evening all. Congrats on the anniversaries, it is refreshing to see people hitting 12, 25, and more years together.
Chief, you bad boy! I actually look forward to going to church and Sunday school as it recharges my batteries for the rest of the week. Today was the church's 50th anniversary, so it was a long service and Sunday school was cancelled. As for rain, we got several inches every evening this last week, would be near 100 and then the deluge and temps down to low 90s.
Did a little organizing in the train room today. Got my son involved with cleaning and getting the room ready for benchwork. He seems interested enough that once we get trains on track, he will love it.

Hi GIZ,
Well we finally got some rain yesterday 2.25 inches not bad. Humid here today.
I am at school today and all the kidos are filing in. Hope this year will be ok?
JELECTRIC, do you have one of those sand filters like they have for the swimming pools. Thats what I have too for my big pond. Works great I have a 4000 gal pond and a 1200 gal pond I have to get another one next year for the 1200 gal. one. Takes about 6 minutes to purge the filter but by far the best thing I bought for the pond. Water is nice and clear.
Have a good one.

It is rainy with temps in the 70s all day today in SE Indiana. Blueberryhill, I finally caught the significance of the "dining car". Sometimes I am a little slow. Roy, sorry to hear about your vehicular difficulties. I have aluminum wheels on the truck (bought it used), and I will have to be more careful with them. Jim F., congrats on 12 years together. I am approaching 28 years in November.
Lucas had a very good day yesterday. He actually felt like going to a friend's house. We were a little leary from an infection standpoint, but the whole family said they were healthy, and Lucas had a good time. My mom has been having her ups and downs. The hospital called my dad last night, thinking it was time, but she is still with us as I write this message.
Both the daughters and their husbands were here at various times over the weekend. The grandkids were here as well. My wife spent the entire church service Sunday holding the baby, grinning from ear to ear.
I pulled a "Chief" Sunday night and had the Fastrack layout on the floor, running the Alaska set. Saturday night, I did something that I rarely do, and that was watch a movie. My wife and daughter wanted to watch a tape, and they got out "The Majestic", which is one of my favorites. It is a Jim Carrey flick set in the mid 50s. It did not do well at the box office, or with the critics, but my wife and I both enjoyed it. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training....in the free world (with apologies to Neil....Young, that is),
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It's a humid 72 degrees. Cloudy. Rained last night. Suppose to go up to 90 today with a scattered shower. Grass is green. Sun may come out.
Today, we have some errands to run and small jobs around the house. Next Monday, is Labor Day already. Daughter visiting that day.
Well, so far I have gained 10 pounds back. Another 5 or so would be fine. I am eating more and getting more exercise. Been walking every day and working outside. Muscles ache as they are healing..
The Dining Car is open. I'm on the way. Later.
Y'all have a great day.
Hi GIZ again,
Just got part of my wood supply for the year. Yea!
Bad part was that I had no kids to unload it, kids filling out first day stuff in homerooms. Had to unload with the driver, 1300 board feet of poplar, good thing I had another shirt here. Sweated like crazy no breeze. Oh well comes with the job.
Later.
Good morning from a wet Chicago. Glad you weren't flying in Lexington, Chief. Had a strenuous weekend setting up, hosting and taking down a surprise party for a friend - and 65 of her family and guests - but all went well: I got the tents, tables and chairs up, it didn't rain, she was surprised, we didn't run out of beer or food and everyone left by 1030. I even got to run the trains for our guests and let some of them run them too: they didn't misbehave - too much. I'll post some photos in a bit. Glad Lucas had a good weekend. Jim, you are buying things left and right - I am jealous of your soon-to-be-new transformer.Roy, sorry about your daughter's accident. It's all in how you respond to it I guess. The daughter here is agitating for a new car. I told her when she begins to drive next year, she might be able to use my decade-old beater if she gets up to drive me to the train and pick me up. We'll see.

CARP ! Can't say here what we used to call them.
Well it looks like Ernesto is going to give me a break, keeping fingers crossed. Don't really want to make an emergency trip to Fl yet, the worst part of the season hasn't started yet.
How in the does the pilot end up using the wrong runway, it's not like they were in a left/right situation with one being shorter than the other. These were crossing runways, don't they check their compass settings prior to take-off? Not to mention the air controller in the tower, like this is Lexington, Ky. At 6am how many aircraft are lined up for take-off. Sorry for the rant but as a former flyboy this stuff just really gets me P.O.ed.
If any of you are nervous flyers, you want to stay away from San Diego. The final approach for landing has the steepest descent rate in the country, that in itself isn't to bad but if we have our normal evening thru morning marine layer it can really be a big surprise to pop out of the clouds and feel like you can reach out and touch some of the structures as you fly by them.
Chief, Have you gotten your schedule set for your visit to Californey? Will you be flying directly to Palm Springs, puddle jumper airways, or into one of the major airports? Don't forget to try to allow some time to run at the museum!!! Remember to pack litely, Palm Springs is hotter than uhhhh, lets just say Texas.

My questions too. Even if they had been paving and no numbers. Also, where in the h--l was the air traffic controler? ABORT ABORT should have come from air trafic controler and run off the end of the runway. Better than stalling out and falling. When I was in San Francisco, wife and I saw an airliner trying to land at Oakland, looked like it was over shooting the runway and suddenly pulled up sharp. Wife commented she hoped that was a pilot on a training flight because if passengers were on board, she knew they were screaming.
Not got any details about the Palm Springs [Indian Wells] trip. Flying to NH next Tuesday morning and I will find out then of Wednesday morning. Then flying to Biose ID from NH Wednesday afternoon. Means I get to Biose at 11:45 PM their time and 2:45 AM my time. Well, sleep the next day as I will not have to go to reception until 7 PM Thursday.
BTW: flying US Airways RDU to Los Vegas to Palm Springs.
Good afternoon,
Went to the fitness center this morning. Cooking dinner for wife this evening. Roast chicken, baked sweet potatoes, mixed vegies, sliced potatoes and pudding for dessert.
Laz, I don't have a sand filter. It is a similar principle but no sand just plastic filter media. It backflushes just like a sand filter so there is no messy foam filters to clean out. I only have a small 1000 gal. pond. The filter is rated for 4000 gal is it plays with this pond.
Looks like we only have 7 pages to go.
Will check in later.
Good Evening Everyone !!
Laz & John : Just a couple weeks ago there was an article in the paper about this guy manufacturing & selling winndmills for ponds !! I think they were around 1200 dollars & the place is in Albion Pa, not even 20 miles from me. They will erect it or you can, guess you need 4 people. The Co. that was making them, outsourced them to China, or was going to, & this guy said he could do it & I forgot the rest !! I wished I'd saved the article now, but I'm sure we can run them down !!
Well, glad Chuck is gaining the wait he needs & he'll gain some more when we have lunch at The Train Station when he comes to the train show in Oct. !! OOOOHHHMMM, good Yankee food there !! !! ( got to keep The Chief on his toes !! )
Mike C: it was good to hear Lucas had a nice weekend ! I always check for you posts to see how he is doing.
Well, hope everyone has a nice night !
Oh, Jim : you will always be glad you got that ZW !! " The heart of it all " !!

He will really do good if he has GRITS.
Jim, we might better tell them where that ZW is going. BTW: Jim, I will have car [as partner is too young to rent one, under 25] and meeting is scheduled to be over at 5PM in Manchester at the Highlander. We just might get to eat together.

Good Evening...........It rained all day. Just stopped a few minutes ago. I took the boys out and we are going to watch the Indians game. At 9 pm, the Closer is on. Good show.
Yes, John, I am looking forward to lunch at the Train Station too. It's been a few years since I was there. Yankee food is great, especially with "NO GRITS ".
Jim ; sure is a lot to being a Southerner !! I don't think I could make the grade !!
Chuck : I don't know now, The Chief seems to think you need some Gritts !! I'm thinking you better start laying some in !! Maybe he knows somethin' here !! Keep us posted on your findings !!
