Evening all.  Ate the whole thing.  Father-in-law's birthday was fix your own deli sandwiches.  Ate two that I built.  Dagwood would have been proud. Big Smile [:D] [now some of you kiddies will not know what I mean by Dagwood]  Ceramic tile guy may be here by 9 AM [can't sleep late Sad [:(]].  Has to fix a bad place.  Hope it doesn't take long.  Then Dinner [in Raleigh] and a Movie so must leave by 3:30 to 4 PM and drive into Raleigh. Sad [:(]  Wife's doings.  Just won a new in the box CN box car for $12 from Train City.  Bet the shipping isn't the usual $8 like that other joint. Shock [:O]  Same box car so we will report.  See, my opinion* is, when you win something at below his cost, he makes it up in raising the shipping.  I've kept my documents and they are filed.  What got me suspicious was the nice guy in Bridgeport OH shipped UPS the 8 cars [3 were die cast hoppers], I bought on my last trip, for $7.50.  Now, that is someone I recommend doing business with.

*see you are intitled to your opinion and not get sued as if you said he diffinately did that. Black Eye [B)]

Good morning from Gettysburg.  Currently about 70 degrees with a high of about 88.

Long day yesterday.  We had a picnic for our staff and their families last night.  I cooked for about 90 people.  Everyone brought a side dish or a dessert to share and their own drinks. The place we rented had a pool for the kids.  It was great.  A nice last fling before the real deal starts next week.  Toady we have orientation for new students and an open house in the afternoon.

Chief - I agree with your "opinion" about the rip-off some folks try on shipping & handling.  I will not bid on e-bay items or buy other items on-line with ridiculous shipping charges. My wife has sold some clothing and lingerie items on eBay and found she got much higher prices when she had free shipping or actual shipping costs.  Of course the items she was shipping just weighed a few ounces, were not breakable and didn't have flanged wheelsWink [;)].

LAZ - hope you don't have any more brutal staff development in store soon.  Have a great start next week.

Anybody seen or heard anything from TomS in NY?  I haven't seen any posts from him lately.

Well, have a great day.

Good morning, all.

My son is feeling much better. He was back to his old, hammy self when I got home last night. He even ate well at dinner.

I stopped at the LHS and picked up a few more post war cars yesterday. A 6462 NYC hopper, a 6457 caboose, and a black crane car with a die cast frame, all in super condition. I was going to grab a 6464475 B&M box car, but it got sold about 2 hours prior to my arrival. Easy come, easy go.

Dagwood not only knows how to eat, he has the hottest wife of them all, Chief.

Rain here today. Cool temps (60s - 70s) for the weekend.

I hope everyone has a great day and a great weekend.

Good morning all,

It is humid and foggy with temps heading to the high 80s today.  Jaabat, glad to hear your son is feeling better.  I went to the boys' soccer game last night.  They lost 7-2.  The girls lost 3-0.  Surprisingly, the boys were not outplayed that badly, but they got behind and could not find the fire to recover.  It is so frustrating to watch kids you coached for eight years in some cases and who you were worked and practiced with this past summer just fall apart on the field in an actual game.  I know they can do so much better, and I have seen them do so much better, but something is lost in the translation at a game.

Lucas had his first home schooling lesson.  He is eating well, and feeling better.

I wish I could say the same for my mom.  She is very tired.  I talked to the doctor myself yesterday, and the prognosis is very, very, very poor.  She could pass in the next minute, next hour, next day, next week, or the next year.  Her platelet count is very low, and that could cause a hemmorhage (sp?) at any time.  I spent most of the evening talking to my sister and my daughters.  It could be a long weekend.

I know some of you wonder how I can talk about soccer and go to the games in this kind of situation, but that is my stress relief.  I can watch the game, talk to soccer people, and forget about the rest of the world for a while.

As always, I appreciate all the kind thoughts and helpful prayers from this group.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Blueberry Hill, one of these days, I will have to join you at the dining car.

Keep on training....in the free world (with apologies to Neil....Young, that is),

Mike C. from Indiana

PS  I got the October issue of CTT yesterday.  It looks like a good one, but I have not read all the articles yet.  Maybe this weekend.

Another Friday is here, another round of cutting grass.  I just got back from dropping the grandaughters off at school, I have untile 2 pm till I have to leave to pick them up.  No improvement with their stepdad, still in ICU with no feeling/movement from the waste down.  Tests haven't shown any break in the spine, he's scheduled for an MRI today to see if anything shows that wasn't on the other tests.

Currently its overcast and a humid, damp morning.  Last I heard it should get into the 90's later and through the weekend.  At least the girls can still use the pool instead of bugging grandma for something to do.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 60 degrees with sunny skies. Going up to a hot 89 today. We never did get that rain they predicted. I heard that it rained north of here.

Today is Friday and we are doing little jobs around the house today. The grass is all cut and needs rain to stay green..This has been a beautiful summer, weather wise. I have enjoyed it.

The first of September is coming soon. Labor Day. We may have some company, coming down to visit us then. Daughter and her family. My grand daughter Sammie will want to run trains. Lots of fun.

Off to the Dining car. Breakfast. See you later.

Y'all have a great day.

Good morning from a grey and humid Chicago - where the bride is gearing up for her big 100-person surprise party at the house this weekend - glad I'm at work for 10 hours.

Rediscovered running trains 'at night' yesterday with the youngest - in the dark with just a light over the transformer - it works well with lit passenger and trolley cars. I liked seeing the light spill along the RoW kind of behind the train as a long passenger train passed by.

Learning something new reading Neil's editorial in the latest CTT - mag subscribers enjoy access to all their equipment and accessory reviews - 300+ -  not just the latest ones - somewhere on the forum.

Sorry about your mom, Mike.

Good morning everyone,

Mike C, sorry to hear about your mom. Glad to hear that Lucas is feeling better though.

Chief, the guy that is charging too much for shipping should get on the phone with my grandmom, and she will give him some s@^& about the jacked up shipping prices.

I went to get a new cell phone yesterday, the Motorola Razr, but Cingular wouldn't let me upgrade it until December. My mom was having a fit about that. She has been with Cingular for 10 years, and has never switched. When she called Customer Service, the 2 people she talked to were rude to her. So she is going to call the big guy to see if he can change this. If not, we may be withdrawing from Cingular and going to Verizon.

Talk to you all later,

Colin

Thanks to all for your prayers for the son-in-law.  I know it helps from the results we've seen with our fellow forum members.

Chief - with e-bay shipping I make it a practice to check the shipping costs, usually someplace in the listing, and include that in the max price I am willing to pay.  There have been a number of items that I was interested in and placed bids that ended up going for more than they could be had locally or from the CTT advertisers.

Finished cutting the bulk of the lawn and was just started along the road when I ran out of gas, Blush [:I] and of course no extra in the garage.  Never fails that it happens as far as you can get from the garage.Censored [censored]

Just got off phone with Alan Wood, aka scratch b rules. He's sweating down in central Florida on a roofing job. He bought a house with nearly an acre. Also, he still has that little turtle (19years old). He plans on building the same 3-rail layout he had in New Hampshire, designed around a turtle pond.

Afternoon guys,

been a busy day so far, did a case and came home so my bride can make a meeting at the hospital.  Sorry to hear about your mom Mike, hope things go as good as they can, tough to be helpless and just watch from the sidelines, Our prayers will continue for your whole family.

Roger, Where is the SIL?  If he is at Shephard's, that is one of the best places in the world for spinal injuries.  I am confident he would get the best care.  We will keep him and the family in our prayers too.

On the train front, been doing some reading for planned repairs on a few items and also the two restoration projects.  Also been cleaning and organizing the room to start benchwork.  I can hardly wait to runs some trains.

Have a great weekend,

Dennis

Good evening guys,

Been very busy the last couple of days.  The fair is almost over, it is for me, I've had my fill for the year.  If you will excuse a proud grandfather and permit me to brag a little I will drop the subject for the year and go back to talking trains.  My 11 year old grandson won best of show with his hog!

Hi GIZ,

No school today off start with kidos on Monday, DRAT!

Took wife to the HAMBURG, Pa. CABELAS.  Spent about 3 hrs there.  I have a Cabelas credit card that earns money for you to spend on merchandice at the store and I cashed in abot $165 on school clothing for the wife and I.  Got some salmon hooks for Pulaski Ny in which we will be going to on the 23rd of September, can't wait.  Had a good day with da wife.

JELECTRIC, CONGA on the grandsons winnings thats a big hog.  How much did it weigh?

MITCH, WOW 90 people thats alot of dogs and burgers?  To bad you didn't have some trains for everyone to run would have been a blast.  We use to have a male faculty picnic at the end of the year at one of the older guys camp and get abot 70 faculty and friends.  Woo good times, with steak and dogs and burgers and of course beer.  Along with horseshoes and volleyball all day and into the night time.  He even had enough space for everyone to sleep over if they wanted.  I wish he was still around, good times and great friendship.

SCRATCH,  the set your talking about with the Jim Beam in it is probably worth about between 500 and 750 dollars.  The bar I go to the guy had two sets that he bought a few years ago for $450 each.  Then when he had the fire earlier this year they were melted by the heat.

Have a good one GIZ.
