Laz, More & more the beer industry is becoming a case of several big companies owning all of the old brands & of them all tasting pretty much the same. Still a lot of minibrewers around for a little variety.

jaabat, Sorry to hear the poison ivy is not getting any better. Looks like us Yankees will have to sympathize with each other, not much concern from below the M-D line.

Mmmmm, beer. Good morning from a sunny and beautful Chicago - I declare we've had a spat of great weather - probably means winter will be bad. Poison ivy sure is terrible, Jim. I'm super-allergic to it. Unfortunately, it seems you just have to wait it through - with plenty of calemine lotion. Last night I finally was able to wrest the camera and computer away from the kids long enough to post a few shots on the Sunday Photo thread. (@#$%^&* MySpace).  Funny the things I forget after not running trains for a while - like the Birney trolley is so low to the ground, it hangs up on all sorts of things. I may be running too many lights off my old LifeLike trainset transformer. I crawled up Mt. Seaman to check a connection and it was very hot.  Glad Lucas had a good day.

I just got a script from the doc for the poison ivy. Will pick it up on the way home tonight.

Dr. John,
Nice 2037! You did pretty well with that auction! Best of luck with it. I would like to find a nice 2055. I bid on one last week that got too expensive for my budget.

Got to clean bathrooms tonight and maybe mow lawn. So I have a lot to look forward to.

Jim

P.S. The Yankees swept the Red Sox in a 5 game series this weekend. Shades of 1978! Put a fork in them. They're done. On the bright side, it's almost football season.

JELECTRIC, yep you're right about all the big companies owning all the little ones.  At least we still have that POTTSVILLE PUNCH, YUENGLING BEER, Americas Oldest Brewed Beer.  But Pa. had at one time the most brewed beers in the country.  Lots of em up in the coal region that went under.  What a shame, but there is still lots of memorabilia left on Ebay and else where of beers like Stegmaire, Gibbons, Kaires, Hazleton Pilsner, Horlachers, Old Reading, ah the good ole days when you could buy a six pack for a buck.

Looks very cool, Chuck - thanks for sharing!  I might steal some ideas from you next year (or so).

Sounds like everybody had a good day!  Good luck on the filter, Chief.  Got two 40 percent off coupons for Michaels again, but the Lemax stuff is on sale for 25 percent off.  My sister-in-law suggested telling the clerk that I don't want the 25 percent off, have them ring up regular, and then use the 40 percent off coupon - she said this has worked for her in the past.  Had a bunch of family over on the weekend and they loved the 3 buildings I already purchased.  Still want the haunted tree houses, Zombie Cafe, and Cemetery Gates sets.  Might get the pirate island as well.  Dr John - I noticed there are several stores around here already selling Christmas stuff - they had a story on the news and one seller was saying some people like to get their shopping done early...  Laz, did you see the post a few months ago with the kit that turned a beer can into an actual toy train car?

 Evenin' All,

Paid a visit to the "Woodworkers Store". Do I ever have a job and a half to do before the middle of next month. It will be the first b'day for our one and only grandchild so my better(?) half didn't like the pattern for the other rockin' horses I made. She picked out a new one and this thing is huge. I've seen ponies that weren't this tall or long. Oh well, it will keep me off the streets and out of trouble. Smile [:)] I think I'll use bird's eye or curly maple for the legs but not sure about the body.

With all the other projects going on don't know if I'll be able to do up the garage for halloween this year.Sad [:(]

Laz - good luck on your first day.

MikeC - Glad to hear Lucas was able to have some visits with others.

Good evening to all.  Our first two days have been pretty good. Tomorrow I have several meetings and we start the first of five Back to School/Meet the Teacher Nights for Kindergarten parents.  Our school has gotten so big we can't fit everyone on one night.

Good night.

Take care,

Hello All!   I'm back from my vacation out east & had a very nice time with friends & relatives. Took a while to catch up on this forum here as it looks to have been very busy in the past week.My Father's Cousin in Connecticut is doing as well as expected for his age(86) & I treated him & his wife to Dinner & Lunch while visiting with them last week. This past Saturday a friend from Jermyn,Pa & I took a side trip to New York City & walked 8 miles in Manhatten. We walked from 42nd St up to the southern end of Central Park over to Rockefeller Center, St.Patrick's Cathederal, Empire State Building, then we walked down 5th avenue past the Toy Fair Building(which is being remodeled) to Ground Zero where they have started construction on the new Freedom Tower. we also saw the concrete footprints of the Twin Towers & the Cross formed of Two Steel Beams which were found in the collapse of the towers. There is a new Subway Station at Ground Zero for the Commuters from New Jersey & Long Island & it is up & running now. In about 5-6 years from now that site will definatley look very different. & we hope no more attacks happen as well. We took a Bus from Scranton,Pa  to New York & we went through the Lincoln Tunnel which looks to be a very neat Engineering Marvel as well as the Empire State Building as when it was constructed the Steel Beams were still warm from the Steel Mills as they were shipped by rail as soon as they came out of the mills. It was finished ahead of schedule & under budget as well. Too many politics for a project like this to happen again so efficiently. Thanks for all of the Birthday Wishes & your well wishes for a safe journey. Talk to you all tommorrow. Take Care.

Good morning from Gettysburg.  Beautiful cool morning here.

Welcome Back Keith.  Sounds like you had a great vacation.  I ran the 1688 for a little under an hour the other night.  It runs so smoothly.  I still have to do some a adjustments to the shelf and track work.  There is a bit of a high spot in one curve and if I don't slow her down she'll jump the track.  Have to wait for cooler weather to start the track work.  Too hot to be out there tearing things up in the evenings right now because if I tear things up,  then I can't run the trains. Precious little layout time as it is for now.

Take care.

Good morning all.

Welcome back, Keith!!!
We missed you, man! Glad to hear that you had a good vacation. I hope you didn't get into any trouble in New Yawk.

Not much new here. Yesterday was pleasantly uneventful. Ran the "new" 2056 for a while.

Have a great day, everyone. Off to breakfast.

Good morning all,

It is foggy and cool in SE Indiana with temps in the high 50s heading to a sunny day in the 80s.  Keith, sounds like you had a good trip.  The girls lost 4-0 last night, but the boys won 2-1.  It was beautiful soccer weather.  Tmcc man, when do you start playing again?  Chief, I can understand your frustration with the parts situation.  It is really bad when you bring the part in and they still can't match it.  I had that problem with a John Deere plastic bushing one time and what they ordered was a small ball bearing.  I eventually got the right part.

Lucas is doing better.  He is even trying to read some, and his home school tutor will be here Thursday to work with him.  I keep thinking everyday my mom will start chemo, and each day they delay it by doing something else.  I am beginning to wonder what is going on.  She feels ok, and so there is something to be said about that.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training....in the free world (with apologies to Neil....Young, that is),

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool and sunny 54 degrees. Going to a nice, sunny 83 today.

" Hi "  to Keith.  Welcome back from vacation.

Well, I hope Jim could read the layout plan OK. It was a little basic.

Today, I will be going up to Cambridge, to do grocery shopping. Gas is 30 cents cheaper there , than in Caldwell. $ 2.53 a gallon. That's a lot of difference.

I have been thinking about setting up my Bachman " Blue Comet ", train outside around my lawn ornament. My grand daughter is coming down on Labor Day weekend and she would enjoy it. I'll take pictures.

Off to the Dining Car for breakfast. Be back later.

Y'all have a great day.

Mike, glad to hear Lucas is having a good day.  Kept him in my prayers before heading to work this morning.

Keith, glad you got back safely and enjoyed the trip.  Lots of people in that area.  The Lincoln tunnel is a marvel.  If you had the time, across from NYC is Liberty State Park in NJ and the old Lackawanna train depot is over there, where they used to load trains on the Train Ferries and float to NY.  Last I saw, it was in old, run down shape, but it was still interesting to see.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all,

I was wore out when I got home last evening as I finished off a long day by standing in front of a gas stove cooking for 4 hours at the church stand at the fair.  The youngest grandson did well with two championships and many firsts.  Goats & hogs.

Chuck,  Your layout plan was very readable, looks like a fun layout to run.

Mike, Gald to hear Lucas is doing better, Also praying for your Mom.

Laz, You forgot National Bohemian, that used to be a big favorite around here.  Brewed in Baltimore I think.  I guess it is still made by Miller but I don't see it around here and it probably wouldn't be the same anyway.

13 Pages to Go!

All have a good day, Off to the fair to watch the beef judging.  Maybe some time for trains tomorrow.

Good morning from summery Chicago. Glad Lucas had a better day. I stumbled accross a few new new videos on the CTT website - check them out: the hotbox car looks muy annoying, but the R1 subway is awesome.  Do you remember a brew called Falstaff? I remember their grain silos as one entered Chicago along 90 were painted like a gigantic six-pack.

I saw those videos yesterday, Doug. The hot box car does seem exceedingly annoying.

I remember Falstaff, and Ballentine, and Gablinger's and Knickerbocher's and many more. And I don't even drink beer! Although I'd probably start if I had to listen to that hot box car for long.

Good afternoon,

Beef judging finished at the fair, taking a break before the sheep & lamb show.  Oldest grandson won first in class & reserve champion overall.  Youngest won 3rd in class, yesterday was his day.  In case anyone is wondering, the fair ground is only 1/2 mile from my house, that is why I can run back and forth.

Roy, Glad to see you had a safe trip, it sure sounds like you have had a busy summer.

Doug,  I think the only way to keep sane with that hotbox car is to install Electric RRs TMCC control to turn it on and off.  Of course that would make the boxcar cost almost $200.00 at list price.  Not something I will be buying anytime soon.  I think Lionel should have equiped it right from the start with TMCC, if done at the factory it probably would have only added a few dollars to the cost.

I've got a dozen train projects in the works but can't seem to get the time to do them, guess I spend to much time on the forum. Wink [;)]

Going to go work on the DH project for a while,

Good afternoon everyone,

Mike C, glad to hear Lucas is doing better. Hope your mom will get better too. I start playing in a few days, still waiting for a call from my coach to see what team I will be one.

Jefelectric, congrats to your grandsons.

A little hot here today. We will probably play world cup tonight.

Talk to you guys later,

Anyone remember P.O.C. beer. I have an unopened bottle from the 60's.  It was in the last case made....according to the Tavern owner. Pride Of Cleveland.
