Good morning all,

It is sunny and cool in SE Indiana with temps heading into the low 80s.  Worked on that section of track where the engines slowed down.  Turns it is more of  a wiring issue than the track itself.  Watched some of the DVD Kalmbach sent to me.  I liked the sections on Tony Lash's layout and the American Flyer layout.  Lucas has another chemo treatment today and my mom starts hers as well.  Chief, a belated birthday wish to your wife, Pam.  She sounds like a special lady.  Good luck to all the eBay bidders.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training....in the free world (with apologies to Neil....Young, that is),

David, I am not quite clear on what item you are talking about on your roof.  Do you mean the "face board".  If so there are preformed shapes available for this in aluminum and vinyl.

See crude hand drawn sketch.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful 72 degrees and sunny. Blue skies. Going up to 84 today and staying sunny. My kind of day.

Mitch...You are right. I have to stay away from the gas trimmer for awhile. I feel better today, but hurt yesterday.

Jim Fortner... I just hit the " quote " button. Nothing else.

Chief... What did you get Pam for her Birthday ??

Today, we will be doing daily tasks around the house. I have a couple of things outside to do. Then sit in the shade and rest. I like that. This summer is going fast. But, I am really enjoying it.

Time to journey to the Dining car. Breakfast. Be back later.

Y'all have a great day.

Chuck

Good morning everyone,

About to leave for the fitness center.  Some garden work this afternoon and then cooking for the church stand at the E-town fair from 4-8 this evening.  Not much time left for trains today.

Laz, I stop at Barry's just about once a week to check out the bargain table.  Last new item, of interest to me, was the K-line reefers.  Barry is always loading or unloading his van at the back door, but a lot of it is stuff going to other dealers & shows.  He sells as much wholesale as he does retail I think.

All have a good day,

Hi GIZ,

Beauty of a day here.  Cool and breezy, feels good.  Did my workout.  Last few days till I go back and have a few inservice days on Wed. Thur.

DAVID, like JELECTRIC stated in his drawing,  the facia board is the board right behind the gutters.  You can get aluminum coil stock at a home center and cut it using a utility knife and a brake.  The brake is a big long tool used to bend aluminum.  These can be rented and you can make lengths up to 10.5 feet.  Most people put a 1 inch bend on the underside, then simply attach the aluminum facia with 1 inch aluminum nails.  If under your eves are wood you can buy sofit material that is made with vinyl or aluminum.  Can be cut to length with either a saw or snips, and attached with nails, then facia aluminum goes overtop this and the facia board.  Hope this helps.

  All have a good one.

DAVID, thats the sofit see above.  If you go to Lowes or Home depot they can tell you what you need.  See my explanation above.  You'll also need an F channel to finish off against the building and to keep the sofit in place.

Morning guys,

Not much going on, and that's a good thing.  Went to Church and Sunday School yesterday and then had to come to the hospital for an emergency.  My call is finally over for the next few weeks anyway.  Sorry I did not know about Pam's birthday sooner Chief, but please pass along our best wishes.  On the train front, my switches are back ordered for awhile, so I am waiting on building the rest.  Right now, it is mostly prep work in the train room.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning from a sunny and humid Chicago. First day  back to high school for the daughter today. Welcome back superwarp and scratch-b - congrats on becoming a dad !  Happy belated birthday to Pam. I survived my stint on stage in a drama at church without embarrassing anyone. Middle boy was baptized in the lake yesterday - so made it a all-day picnic. Actually chose to watch old Elvis concert footage I stumbled across on TV than work on the layout - in the light of day, I can't believe it. Have to repair some of the radon tarp already - too many teenagers poking at it while sitting on the crawlspace wall...

I also watched the Elvis Concert show on TV. Such a shame to see a guy with that much going for him throw it all away like he did.

I came across a new K-Line smoking caboose for $49 the other day. Very tempting, but I think my train purchases are going to have to subside for a while. Looking forward to the next issues of CTT and OGR.

Morning all.  Dennis and Jim A, 4 die cast K-Line hoppers just came by UPS [picked up off of OGR].  You think I might have enough hoppers now???  Dennis, better be careful or I will finish benchwork before you do [as I got walk-in done].  Need to mow.  IT RAINED last night.Big Smile [:D]  Suppose to again today.  Might be dry enough to mow now.  Got lots of PORK bar-be-que in the frig.  Had lots left over and so I got B-B-Q and fried chicken. Big Smile [:D]  I see the Ohizo gang stayed in line while I was running up and down the highway.  Where is Keith?  Did he come South and got locked up while on vacation? Wink [;)] Got to run.  God bless.

Morning all!

Good to see you posting here Reggie. Enjoyed your layout pics on the Sunday Photo Fun.

Scratch - Congrats on being a new DAD!

Had a very busy weekend, so no time to post. Had a church youth choir pool party here Saturday, so spent all Friday afternoon and Sat morning preparing (mowing yard, etc., UGH). Party was a great success - lot's o' dogs and burgers consumed. High school boys are always very hungry. Spent yesterday helping a friend with layout wiring.

I have to go to Wash DC tonight for an all day meeting tomorrow and then I fly back tomorrow night. Wish I had time to stop and see Dave - but I have more meetings here on Wed & Thurs mornings, so I have to get back right away - no time to visit.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

David,

Laz gave you the right info.  A couple of comments, the guys at the big box stores vary a great deal in knowledge.  I have run into some who really knew what they were talking about and then there were the others who had a hard time telling their right from their left.  I prefer to deal with the local lumber yard.

If you are going to do this work from a 40' extension ladder be very careful, even though this stuff is fairly light, in any kind of wind a 10' length of soffit track or facia can be a real handfull.  It really gets interesting when you are trying to hold the material in place with one hand, nail it with one hand and hold on with one hand.

Would you believe it, I've been to two train shops in Memphis.  One had just moved to a new location [now this was a little over a year ago] and was on some back street.  It had a lots of RC cars and planes and etc. too.  The other was just up the street from Bass Pro Shops [where I was doing an event] on the main street that came off of I-40.  The one on the back street had some great buys on K-Line box cars and I picked up three.  Packed them in my roller bag.  NSA lady said she had never seen train cars in luggage before. Tongue [:P]  The one up the street from BPS had lots of inventory but was MSRP.  Too high $$$$$ for me.  Don't need any more hoppers. [I've got over 100]  Thanks for the tip.

Jim - I feel your pain.  I was so happy to get the bushes in the front of out house trimmed last week but I wound up with poison too.  I hate this stuff and get it all the time.  One of the many reasons I hate yard work.

Congrats on your 2056.  I have one of the 2055's and love it.  What a great running train.

LAZ - thanks for your words of encouragement.  First day was pretty laid back and successful.  Short faculty meeting and breakfast.  Teachers had rest of the day for team meetings and preparing classrooms.  Big meeting with all of the required annual trainings tomorrow.

Well take care.  Going to probably runs some trains in a little while as it has cooled off.

Evening, it seems that several of our brethren have fallen to the poison ivy menace lately.  One suggestion, if you go to WalMart, or most of the national pharmacies, they have a product called Zanfel.  It is expensive, but the claim is that if you put it on right away, it clears up the poison ivy in 24 hrs and the relief is very quick.  I have heard several folks give it high marks, some who put it on later than 24 hrs said it helped, but was not as if it had been on right away.  For those who try it, let us know.  I think it is about $37.00 for a 4 oz tube.  I have some on hand, but have not needed it.....yet.  Take care and good night,

Dennis

Good evening,

15 Pages to Go!

Haven't had poison ivy since I was a kid, don't want it either.  Even though I don't seem to get it, I always avoid it as much as possible.

Finished my shift a the church food stand.  We sold a ton of stuff, the crowd was packed, you could barely move.  Jean and I went about 100' down from the chuch stand to get some ice cream and then headed home.

Nice to sit for a while after all that standing at the gas stove.

Good night.

Ha!  Just won 2 cars from Trainz on ebay:

Lionel 36054 Archaelogical Exp. Gondola w/Eggs NIB for  $19.38

Lionel 26726 Operating T. Rex Bobbing Boxcar NIB for  $33.00

These should make an interesting addition to the Halloween Layout - Dino Danger!  The gondola was uncatalogued and alone was $55 in the 2006 Greenberg's.  Oh well, blew my allowance until next pay day, but that's just until Friday!

You're closing in Chief, 985 pages!  What will you have when the day really comes?  Sweet (Spleanda) Tea with ???  You need to post a pic of an engine hauling all those cars around and around and around your floor!  I'm jealous, I can't use my floor no more due to Chewy and her Appetite for Choo Choos.  So, I use an old beat up table from the basement.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning, All. (Even you, Chief.)

I think my poison ivy has reached the point where OTC meds aren't going to help. I am starting to look like the elephant man!

Not much new here. I worked late yesterday. Got home in time to feed the kids and do some laundry. After the kids went to bed, I fiddled with our new 2056.

Supposed to be a beautiful day here. Several in a row as a matter of fact.

Have a great day, everyone.

Hi GIZ,

A beauty of a day here again.  Last day of vacation time then back to school for inservice tomorrow(YUCK).  Get my last workout in and run trains later in the day.  I lost another EBAY auction.  I'm trying to win a Lionel O gauge STROHs Reefer and keep getting beat by a dollar.  I think I am getting sniped within the last minute of the auction.  Very frustrating.

Oh well better luck on the next one?

JAABAT, I feel your scratching and itching.  Hope it gets better?

Have agood one.

Good morning all,

It is sunny and cool in SE Indiana with temps in the high 50s heading to the low 80s.  The high school kids are both in action tonight with the girls at home and the boys on the road.  The boys have promised me a real stomping of the team they are playing so we will see how it goes.  Jaabat, I can understand how that poison ivy can be nasty.  My mom and daughter are highly allergic to it.  Reggie, glad to see you here at the "coffeepot".  This is an interesting group of people and very supportive of one another, even with the "North vs. South" discussions.

Lucas had a good day yesterday.  He stayed up til 9PM so he could watch "Prison Break" (I missed the train scene :-(   ).  He visited his sister after the chemo, which was the first he had been any place other than home or the chemo place since beginning the treatments.  My uncle's widow and their daughter stopped by for a visit as well.  My mom starts chemo today, not yesterday as I thought.  I got the new Lionel catalog in the mail yesterday and perused that last night. No CTT yet, but maybe today.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training...in the free world (with apologies to Neil....Young, that is),

Morning guys,

Hope y'all are doing well and that those afflicted with the poison ivy are getting better.  On my way home yesterday, I saw some neat yard work down from the hospital.  They were doing some Hump operations and setting up a train to head out.  It was impressive.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 56 degrees and sunny. Going up to 84 and sunny all day.

Mike C.,...I'm glad Lucas is feeling better.

LAZ....Do they still make STROH'S ???

Today is another beautiful day. I want to work on something outside. Maybe start the mowing cycle. That sounds good. Grass looks good and green. It's usually brown in August.

I can't find my original " blueprint " of my track plan. So, I am making up a new one. It will take awhile. Made some minor changes.

Breakfast in the Dining Car. Be back later.

Y'all have a great day.

CHUCK,  the last time I heard about STROHs was that PABST Brewery took over control about in the early 80s?  I don't know if it is still being brewed?  I just looked it up so here you go check it out....

http://www.tinsel.org/beer/strohs.html

It was a good beer, tasted great and not a heavy beer.

Good morning!

I won a 2037 steamer on Ebay yesterday - first train purchase in a while. Went by Michael's yesterday to look at some of the Lemax buildings and accessories. I knew the Halloween items would be out, but they already have the Christmas Lemax displayed too! Shock [:O] Even had a few Christmas ornaments up on one aisle. Seems a bit strange in August.
