Rainy and windy here in Chicago - but then, those of you who watched or listened to the White Sox - Indians game know that... And I promised to try to hike over to the Apple store to see if they can fix my daughter's iPod. Ugh. Forgot to bring in the sticks I had collected to make trees and they are all soaked and scattered, and the goldenrod too. Oh well. Sounds like you made some great buys, Jim!!

I hope those guys that were selling the cars for $5 come back with another batch next time. I'm going to buy them out! I went to the show looking for the streamliners. A vista dome in particular. I also wanted to find a cheap car that my daughter could paint and decal to her liking. An 1972 MPC Republic Steel gondola fit that bill. Why didn't I grab the Reading hopper?!!!! Maybe it had 2 dummy couplers and I thought I'd come back later. Lot's of the red Lehigh Valley hoppers. There were a you-know-what load of nice O27 cars to be had for $10 and under.

A bit tough waking up this morning. Why can't they just keep daylight savings time year-round; why do we have to reset our clocks twice a year? We aren't really saving any daylight one way or the other, as the sun still rises and sets at its own appointed time, regardless of our watches.

Morning all!

Cooled off here. 60's and sunny with a lite breeze - wonderful!

Mike - Boys lost 6-3. The heat did them in and we had no subs the first half as several team members went to the wrong field across town (why don't people read their multiple e-mail reminders?). It easily could have been 8-6 as we had about 10 more great shots on goal. Luck just wasn't with our guys and the opposing teams goalie was great.

Buckeye - get well!

Doug - daughters and iPODs - I feel your pain. Is yours locking up or did it actually break? Web searches on lock ups (of which there are many) usually yield effective measures.

Spanky - any photos of your open house? It was good to see Keith's torpedo on the rails!

Steve (Gil) - seems like you are feeling better? Hope so.

Have a great day all!
Roy

Very Logical Dave.
A lot happening today. Opening day for the Royals. I really hope they win today, otherwise they may be already elliminated from winning the pennant. [(-D] The weather is supposed to be high 50s and sunny.
My son called me from his seat on South African Airplane destined for Port Elizabeth, SA on a business trip. He started from Detroit, deplained in Atlanta to board the SA Airliner. 17 hour flight. He will be there a week. I am excited for him. Quite an experience.

I may take a day trip to SW Missouri to catch some trout Tuesday. Hope they are hungry and cooperate.
Have a good day all.

Roy, I hiked up to the Apple store and they gave me a replacement for the iPod. The clickwheel was busted - 3 months old.
While I was in the neighborhood, I stopped into the Nike store and got my picture taken with the World Series trophy! Have to find a way to scan this!
I hope your son is in Business class, Mickey. I once spent 17 hours in coach on what was then the world's longest non-stop flight - from Chicago to Hong Kong

Doug - hope your wife's back is better - I am still beat, but getting better - up early today to take kids to school. Took the day off to recuperate. Char is out at the store now, but she had a migraine. We got hit hard again last night by the storm, hope it didn't hit you guys in Indiana etc as hard as it got us. Lucky they haven't replaced our roof and siding yet. One house up the street just got a new roof last week and all the new shingles were ripped up!!!

Forgot to mention, the other day we were driving down in Pevely and the main track there, where we usually see a BNSF with freight, was being repaired. They had about 3 crews, a grader, and another machine that was being used to replace the ties - very cool.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hey Doug - they let you that close to it! Cool!

They display the Cowboys Super Bowl trophies at the State Fair here each year (not that we will see them getting another one anytime soon). They are well protected in big cases behind lots of thick glass.

Great day here today in W. Michigan. Remember the job offer I accepted last week? Same place that I will be running on the road this week, I just got hooked up with a 1st shift position at a local company, from 7a to 3p and I start on Monday! Talking about a blessing. So I will be doing just a regional run this week and after that, I will be doing first shift on Monday as a shuttle driver. Can't complain there, not by a longshot. Pay is also $13 an hour too, so two more dollars than my last employer. And if I do well within the 90 day period, I could get hired on to the company permanently (im now with a driver leasing agency).

Temps are quite cool today, and very windy. Started out with some rain earlier this morning, now just windy and chilly.

Hope everyone has a blessed day!

These things are rare in Chicago, Roy - I also saw it behind glass at City Hall. Amazing that anyone would let me near it. It sure was shiny though - they fixed one of the little flags that had broken off. Congratulations on that better job, Chris.

Hello everyone,
Well, this next week will be very short for me. My doctor does not want to put any stress on me so he sent a note in saying I will be in school for half days the entire week. I was really tired when I got home, which means that is not a good sign. He wants to see me again tomorrow, he doesn't like the fact that I am still coughing and am still tired, he thinks I could have walking pnemounia.

Hope everyone had a good day, and goodnight from PA.

Colin, glad to see you back.

The Reds took it on the chin today for a typical opening day in Cincinnati. No pitching again this year.

Ask Chuck about pneumonia and the recovery time. BTW: If you are going to have it, spell it right. [:p] Pay back for you correcting my grammar. [;)] I've had pneumonia 4 times. Two required hospitalization. One time I was passing out from lack of O2.

Roseyville Town Board. Guy has an insurance agency in a house down the street. We have a Neighborhood Overlay District [the older part of main street] to protect the original residences of the Town. Any house bought and used as a business must follow strict rules. Any new building must compliment the original houses. Guy puts up the big banner from one dormer roof edge to the other. Then spotlights it. Zoning Director told him today to get it down [only one small lighted sign in front is all that is allowed as the area is residentual]. He didn't and comes to the Town Board to ask for a special variance for 30 days. Told him he was in violation and no. Why is folks can not follow the ordinances and when they are caught, they think they are a special exception. He left mad. [:D]

Now for microwave popcorn and then sleep. OH, had strong winds before another thunderstorm came through. About 30 minutes of them. Kept sucking the flap open of the Tee Pee used for Town Meeting Hall [really was sucking the main door open constantly]. Sump pump running in basement.

Later.

We get the same people up here thinking the ordinances are only for the common folks and not them since they are special. Stab signs are the biggest nuisance

As a basketball aficionado, I have won some money from the NCAA Pool again this year. [:D] I'm looking forward to doing some train shopping with my ill gotten gain.

Recieved good news from the doctor today. I passed all my kidney stones, but I'm pretty beat up on the left side.

Have a good one.

Morning to all from Gettysburg. Last night was another late night for work. Teacher Awards dinner. One of my grade 4 teachers who is just outstanding was nominated. She was selected as one of the finalist for County Teacher of the Year. I did get home in time to see the Gators grab their first NCAA crown in basketball. Go Gators!

Have a great day.

Good morning all,

It is cool and supposed to be sunny in SE Indiana today with temps rising to the 50s. Roy, sometimes you have days like that with soccer games. You can have the better team, but if the players don't show up, there is nothing you can do. Tmcc man, I hope you feel better soon. Chief, I know what you mean about following ordinances. People always want exceptions. I went to the Y last night and watched a tape of the F-1 race. It was good to see Scott Speed doing well even though he got penalized after the race. Driving home last night, we saw some of the destruction from the tornados on Friday and Sunday. One of my son's teachers had a tornado just miss her house. I think it was a reward for teaching my son as he is a whirlwind all by himself. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
