And here I envied you guys with neighbors. We have lived in the same house for 21 years and don't know the people 2 houses down. (And the lots are 50' feet wide!) People think you are crazy or nosey if you say anything to them. Never have gotton use to this aspect of the culture here.

I had a great time talking to Doug yesterday. I was sitting in my car watching it @#%* SNOW while we talked. It's all gone today. Temps in the mid 50's and sunny. Never did make that highball. Did have a glass of wine with dinner though.

I ran trains again last night for 45 minutes or so. The El Capitan train has doubled in size with the addition of a B unit, Pulman dining car, and vistadome. Now it's a train! Big and loud! Oh, and the FT B unit goes box end forward. I know this because the indian on the sides both face the same direction. So I made them facing forward.

I for one am glad to see Atlas take over the IR line. I hope they keep them low-priced. If they want to fix the couplers so the cars don't derail, I'd be even happier. I have a set of 3 Frisco hoppers that are really nice. Got the whole set last year for $19. I see the same guy trying to sell them at train shows for $59! Not many takers.

I might leave early today and get my car inspected. We'll see how the day goes.

Good morning from Gettysburg, PA. It is currently 43 with highs forecast for about 60.

Chuck - good luck at the Dr. today. Hope they get your lung cleared out.

Chief - your "neighbor" sounds like he could use a swift kick in the pants or better yet, someone should tie him up out in the briar patch for a few hours with no food or water. Ignorant people like that make me crazy.

Dr. john - sorry to hear about the fire. It's so sad when we lose historical architecture as you describe. New building usually don't have the character of the old ones. PS I have a Marx switch (or two) that I will not be using. If you are interested, contact me via e-mail. I'll make you a deal you can't refuse[;)][;)].

Have a great day.

Morning all. Dr. John, guess I'll buy you coffee this AM. Sorry your favortie shop is gone. Bet you get to visit a lot of folks like that. Off to airport to pick up rental car. Then going by Mom's [get her taxes straight]. Got to do that as I may be in MN next week or the week after Easter. [:0] Then by Youngest's new house in Wilmington on the way down to Myrtle Beach SC Bass Pro. Got to go and get ready. Chuck, praying you will be OK. Buckeye, get well. Jim A, you are going to have to join Dennis and me in the T&RSBA. [;)] God bless all.

Morning all, just waiting to get the day started. I am ready, now if the patient would just show. Anyway, trying to stay up to speed with the forum. It seems if you lay off for a day, you need two to catch up.
Dr. John, sorry to hear about the fire. Sounds like a good stop by the guys. Anytime you fight a fire in an old structure, it is hard to get control. The fact that they were able to stop it from getting to the buildings next to it is great.
Chief, sounds like that guy needs a little chat with the likes of Dr. John, or his counterpart in your neck of the woods. I think he is just the guy next door, he certainly has not been a neighbor.
Have a great day everyone.
Dennis

TMCC,

Nice video. I think video (photo casting), podcasting, etc will be the future for forums rather than just text and photos. Just an opiniion.

Dr. John,

Important thing is no one was killed.

Chief,

A shame how some folks treat their dogs or other pets. Makes you wonder.

John, Doug,

A wall cloud resembles a wall of really thick, dark cloud that rotates in the front of a storm front and often spawns tornadoes.

John,

I'm still unsure if I'll be making it up your way in Pennsylvania this Saturday as I'm helping my daughter with a college project. Will keep in touch.

All,

Today, we continue our journeys in Israel (Dec05-Jan06) and visit the Tel Dan Nature Reserve, along the Israel-Lebanon-Syria border in the north. This reserve starts at the source of the Dan River, one of 3 river sources for the Jordan River, which we viewed last time.

Shown here is Layish, the ruins of a biblical city from the days of King Jereboam. The vegetation is lush compared to the desert areas of the south, and the atmosphere is serene and peaceful (when the insurgents aren’t shelling the region).

There are dozens of more stops will be making. If you’ve not been following this series, here are the Coffee Post pages to find the previous ones:

Caesarea 624

Armegeddon 645

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and will be rainy with temps heading to the 60s again today in SE Indiana. Chief, sounds like you have a real peach of a neighbor there. I am not a great animal lover (I tolerate the wife's dog), but I do not believe in mistreating any creature, especially a pet. Buckeye, I hope you feel better soon. Dr. John, I am glad no one was hurt in the fire. Buildings can be replaced, but people can not. I dug out an engine that I had not run in a while last night. It was PRR 8625 from a mid 80s Lionel set. It ran fine on the Fasttrack layout. I also went to the Y and watched "Lost". Tonight I go play soccer again with the high school kids. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

When can I expect that shipment of trains you promised?

Morning all,

It is back to spring here with temps getting into the 50's and the little snow we had yesterday will be gone. It's nice to see the sunshine return. David, those are nice pictures. Thanks for sharing a part of the world that most of us have not seen.

Dr. J., it is amazing what fire can do and take something out so quickly. It was good that no one got hurt.

Has anyone checked out the new Lionel Christmas catalog? New Polar Express stuff in there.

Have a nice day everyone.

Colin,

Cool video. Where was it shot and what kind of equipment did you use?

Mitch[8D]

I shot it at the Great Train Expo in Fort Washington, PA. The view is from the inside of a boxcar running on the outter loop, with my engines running on the head of the train. I used my HP Photosmart M417. I had no clue it recorded sound, so that was a complete suprise when I put it on the computer.

Well, good morning everyone,
Good luck at the doctor Chuck.

Here is the deal with me : I should be in school for a half day today, like I have been for the rest of the week, but my parents decided that for today I will stay home. So, I will be on periodically for the rest of the day.

(PS, wait until I take video of my friend's Mustang GT, which happens to have a Cobra engine in it. The sound will blow you away, and the stock pipes are on it right now, with 4 inch Borlas on the way, it will be loudddddddddddd)

Chuck,
All of us will be thinking of you. I can't wait until you are feeling well enough to sit on my deck again in the sunshine and watch the trains run.

LAZ,
Maybe next week I will have time to sneek in a round or two.

Jim,
Didn't you show up at my house last week and my wife gave you all my trains? If not, where are they?

Buckeye,

Check to see if there's a new car in your driveway. The wife may have made her move, sold your trains, while you were weak. They've been known to do that.

You also promised to take me on an all-expense paid trip to Davis Trains. Said I could have whatever I wanted. Don't tell me you don't remember?

Glad you're feeling better!

Morning - storms this morning and more coming, maybe severe. Finally signed contracts to replace the roof and siding and gutters, oh my! Very expensive, but after insurance should only be out about $1k. Still -- a lot of train/lego/dvd/woodworking money gone! I think I need another hobby...

God bless Chuck, Buckeye, Colin, Dr. John's friend(s), etc. Chief, have a good trip.

Tons of work to do today, so TTFN.

Good Morning All:

Beautiful morning in the Chicagoland area. However, some rain is expected later today. After all of my electronics questions of the past few days, I decided to buy a book on electricity and circuits. I have now become acquainted with Kirchoff's Laws. But I still have a long way to go...

Buckeye - I am really enjoying your trains....

TMCC - nice video. If you guys are interested, in the same area where TMCC posted his video, there are a bunch of movie-to-video shorts of various narrow gauge trains in France that appear to be based in the late 40's. Pretty cool.

Spanky - are you pulling Buckeye's OTTS certificate?

Chuck - hope the doc visit goes well today.

Jim F - why don't you just let your house go like the rest of us to keep the $$$ properly focused on what is important - toy trains...

Don - you should enjoy the K-Line Shay. I have seen them (Almost got one myself) and they look great. I went for the NYC Suburban TAnk 4-6-6 loco instead.

JO - good to see you joining the POT. Kirchoff's law - oh the glory!

Cloudy and diminishing chances for rain today. 80's predicted.

Have a great one all!

Good afternoon,

Buckeye, Chuck & Colin, I hope you all get well real quick.

Tom, Good luck in your search.

Nice sunny weather here today, but with a nasty cool wind.

Ran my new Trainmaster last evening a little, that engine smokes enough to give you lung cancer. Sounds good, don't know if it is authentic FM engine sound or not. Don't ever recall seeing or hearing a real one run, even as a kid.

Dr. John, sorry to here about the loss of an historic building and your favorite coffee shop. It always amuses me when they say the cause was electical. Whenever they can't determine the cause, it becomes electrical.

Heading out for the fitness center. Probably check in latter this evening.

Good afternoon, all.

Wouldn't you know it? Dead battery in two vehicles this AM! Jumped off battery in wife's jeep but had to replace it. Have the other one on a trickle charge so I think it will be okay. Good thing the battery in my Blazer was still strong!

It is sad that the old building downtown burned yesterday, but the important thing is that no one was hurt. Our fire department really does an oustanding job. I'll miss the coffee shop, but my heart goes out to the one's who ran the shop. Sure, they had insurance, but now their employees have no place to work. I'll have my breakfast meetings at another place but I hope they find a new place to work very soon.

Pollen count is really high! My allergies have been acting up pretty badly - a good rain would help.

Dave, thanks for all of the great photos from the Holy Land. I always enjoy seeing them.

Speaking of coffee, time to head back to the break room to get a cup. Later!

Dr. John,

Thanks.

I started having allergy problems at age 33 when I moved to Arkansas. It's the oak pollen. When you can write your name on the car windshield with your finger you know it's thick and deep and the nose will run and eyes burn and coughing commences.

Full memory is back and all the hallucinogenic dreamworld drugs are worn off. Been running the trains and doing some light paper work Slept good last night.

Now why am I going to NC?[%-)][%-)][%-)]

Dr. John, we had a fire here today too. A tire shredding facility on the south side of the city when up in flames. You could see smoke for miles. The employees reported that the power went out and then there was an explosion. The Columbus Fire Department I think had six aerials surrounding the building and they actually got it under control and out in quick order.

I sure hope Chuck gets put on the right track back to good health.
