Roger,

Glad things going OK and you're learning to relax. My muscles are aching from spiking rails into lauan wood all day as well as running the hound 3 times. At about 6 a.m. she took off after a rabbit that I swear looked as big as her. ANd BB the beagle weighs 25 pounds. But the rabbit probably looked bigger than it really was because it was all stretched out from sprinting. Nearly ran into me too. Rabbits do that often when beagles are chasing them.

I keep trying to get a picture of the rabbit and BB at the same time but so far haven't been quick enough. Eventually would like to show you pictures of the chase. Maybe one day.

Cheers. Time for a brew!

Roger, glad everything is OK. Been at sister-in-law's. Grandmother dying again. I went to see her the other night. She is just surviving. Skin and bones. She was a robust person and very actrive. Hate to see folks suffer like that. Pam had an aunt die tonight with cancer. About 4 weeks after she found out. Pam's Daddy said it was a blessing. She was suffering bad but did not know anything due to so much morphine. Off to bed. God bless all.

On a happier note I ordered a D&RGW Galloping Goose this past week, hopefully it will be here before I run again this friday. Should be pretty entertaining for the visitors, not to mention me. [:D] Earlier this week my PS-4 flats arrived followed the next day by the 1:50 scale earthmovers in camo paint, now I need to determine how I'll secure them to the flats. The loader and scraper just barely fit, just the tiniest amount of wheel hangover on the edges of the flats.

I haven't heard anything from Tim for quite awhile, haven't seen him come by the layout with Trevor either.
If I had a last name maybe I could try to find him, he lives only about 30 minutes away from me.

Doug, try a craft store for some very fine chain. The equipment looks great, must have spent a bit of time dismantling and painting.

Just finished installing my homemade battery replacement power converter, 12.6VAC to 4.5VDC, onto the layout. All works fine the first shot.

Getting to be a hot day here today, should reach into the 80's. Grandma just took the grandaughter to the park, that should give me a couple of hours of quite time.

Morning gang [almost noon]. Pam's Grandmother finally gave up this AM. Since she had been so bad off for months, Pam is OK with it and feels relieved. Took Pam out for breakfast. Then we went by Home Depot to get more flowers for her gardens. She got the 5 disc set of "I Love Lucy" [that is Pam]. [;)] Out and about this afternoon. Doing lumber list this PM. Will have to get it tomorrow as I am sure funeral will be Tuesday and I have to go to the State Legislature for Town on Wed. Fly out ot LAZland on Thursday AM. I'm just too busy. God bless.

HI GIZ,
HAPPY MOMs Day to all you MOMs out there.
Hey GIZ the prom was a great time, no drunks this year? Yuz GIZ are right about the girls that are 16-18 going on 22. We have the traditional Prom Walk where the kids walk across the stage and the parents take pictures and all. The kids are all dolled up in their dresses and tuxes and they all look real good. It almost seems like these aren't the same kids that we have taught all those years and seems like they have matured over night.
Fished for trout yesterday caught and released 7, my brother caught and released 8. Not too bad for 3 hours. Walked about a mile of the creek, water is still cold.
Had dogs and burgers on the outside fireplace after fishin, along with beverages, good fire.
Bought a GG1 break up from the Majestic set for $310. Runs and sounds great.
My condolences to you CHIEF. Sorry for your lose.
Got to go and see MOM and MOM in law today.
All have a good one.

Chief,

Sorry to hear about Pam's grandmother.

Doug,

Looks sweet. Some chains and you're all set. Even the tiniest ones in Home Depot are too big. I don't recall seeing them in Michael's but perhaps I didn't look hard enough.

Pam's Grandmother's age??? around 80. Been in bad shape for years and gotten worse the last three months. Got shooting range finished. Poles with cables to hold targets, shooting post set at 25 ft., 50 ft., 35 yds., and 50 yds. Resting the rest of the afternoon.

OK calling out the Cal. National Guard. Turboone [Tim] posted here on April 14 [he missed the Coffee Pot Birthday Party] and on Garden Railroad on April 20. Was taking his two wolf dogs to the vet. Nothing since. Sent him an email but if something worng, he will not get it. Think I'll post on Garden Railroad and see if any of the gang there knows his last name. We get that and dougsnotagrump will run him down for us.

Afternoon everyone and Happy Mother's Day to your moms and spouses.

Chief, Very sorry to hear about Pam's grandmother passing!

Buckeye, thanks for the wise sayings. Here a some attributed to Will Rogers:

"When I die, I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like the passengers in his car."

"Letting the cat out of the bag is a lot easier than putting it back in."

"If you get to thinking you're a person of some influence, try ordering someone else's dog around!"

"Never kick a cow chip on a hot day."

"There's two theories about arguing with a woman. Neither one works."

"Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco."

"Never miss a good chance to shut up."

Let me share a story I told our congregation today.

There was once a young preacher, fresh out of seminary and a newly wed. The day came to preach his first Mother's Day sermon. The sermon was titled: "Ten Iron-clad Rules for Raising Your Children."

Time passed and the preacher and his wife had twins. The next Mother's Day, the sermon title was: "Five Helpful Hints for Struggling Parents."

Still more time passed. The preacher and his wife had more children, now in their teenage years. The Mother's Day message? - "Does Anyone Here Have Any Ideas?"

Dr John, that is just a great story! Went to the Illinois Railway Museum today after church - a beautiful day here in the 80s. Rode a Lackawana car from the 1920s - in a three car consist with two Rock Island coaches pulled by SP 1518 -- a rusty GP7 repaint of C&NW 1518. The engineer opened up the engine so we could see and hear it throbbing away. See photo here: http://www.irm.org/cgi-bin/rsearch.cgi?diesel=Chicago+&+North+Western=1518
Not a big crowd. Went to visit my favorites in their barns - the Electroliner, Nebraska Zephyr, Little Joe and GG-1. Have to go back some day when the boys aren't hungry - the snack bar wasn't open so they lasted a lively 2 hours, and I got away with only buying a $2.50 little toy loco. for the youngest. Going to try to put Drew's HO loop of Bachman EZ track in an open space on the layout so he can run some of 'his' trains - and later together build a Plasticville barn and farm equipment left over from my Christmas gifts. The girls should be home tomorrow - I have to hide my Santa Fe set until my birthday.

Dr. John has a memorial with the names of those killed in military service in the foyer of his church. This Sunday, one of the little girls tugged on his coat sleve. "Dr. John, what is that list of names for?" Dr. John replies, "They are persons who died while in service." The little girl then asks, "Which one of your services, early or regular morning?" Well a very busy week and weekend have come to a close.

Our LEGO Mindstorms robotics competition (district level) was held yesterday. I ended up with 6 teams entered from my school. We had originally entered 10, but lost 2 to indecision on how to build for the compeition, 1 to a Mother's Day cross country trip, and 1 to another district level academic competition that happen to fall on the same day as robotics.

I had 1 of my teams that scored the highest number of points through 6 qualifying rounds, only to have them fall to 4th place (still got a trophy) in the semifinals and finals. The team members were good sports about it, although naturally a bit disappointed. I had another team that finished 6th out of 22 teams. The 6th place team won the Gear Head award (trophies) for best use of parts to build a sound engineering design to accompli***he task of the competition. I had another team that got certificates for best theme in the judges opinion. So 3 out of 6 teams came away with something.

The competition ran from 8:15 check-in until 3 pm. I was there from 7 until 4, so it was a long day - and then I had to haul a pickup load of game tables, racks, robots, robot support kits, etc., back to our school and storage shed.

With all that I still managed to take the wife and kids downtown for a nice dinner at a classic Gulf Coast seafood restaurant. It was a beautiful evening with a warm, yet cooling breeze, so we rode the McKinney Avenue Transit trolley (very old restored car - not sure what) around its entire route before going home. All the trolley's windows were open and it was just great.

Today started with early church (8:15), some relaxing around the house, and then a Mexican food dinner. After dinner I mowed the lawn as storms were approaching and I was already a few days overdue. Nice and cool out this evening, so it was a pleasent chore.

News says the weather is finally going to start looking like N. Texas, with highs heading to 80's and 90's pretty quick this week. Humidity is high also so when it hits 90 it will not be pleasant.

Getting late - have a great day tomorrow all!
Roy

Regards, Roy
