Jon, Cincinnati airport is like 4 or 5 buildings [not together]. Bet you off load in one and have to catch a bus shuttle to anther one [probably C if Delta]. Then sit in big waiting room with lots of doors off of it. Then walk down long hall with more doors [gates] off of it. When do you arrive at RDU? If I am in town, I'll meet you.

Johnny,

Thx for posting photo instructions. They were a big help to me.

Tom,

Agree reg. the photos. W/out a digital, I wouldn't be taking 1/100th the amt of photos.

Keith,

I wrote a short novel and a screenplay that features BB the beagle prominently. It's probably good to publish right now but I'm not satisfied with it yet and am crafting more of a cliff-hanger plot to it so that you MUST turn each page. If you or anyone is interested in seeing it in draft form (around 70 pages single spaced in MS Word), I can email it. I already copyrighted it with the Library of Congress.

I'd rather, however, not send it out to anyone who is not a regular on this forum. I'm primarily interested in feedback.

The genre is a coming of age adventure set in the Civil War timeperiod, featuring a 16 year old boy and his beagle, whose name, coincidentally, is BB. There are also trains and toy trains figuring prominently in the story.

But today, I'm home working on the layout. Developed 3 bumpers based on prototype digital photos I took about a month ago, which, if I have time, will post manana.

OH Bucky Boy. Been in a few biggies like LA, Ohare, Detroit, Atlanta, Philly and Dallas. We followed the big river for a long ways and then turned south. When we flew over Columbus last night, the pilot dinged the bell thing twice so I could run to the lavatory and flu***wice. [;)]

It's a chilly one in Chicago. My son has a baseball game at 5:45pm. Temperature is around 42 degrees. By the end of the game and near sunset we'll be in the upper30's. Gee can't wait to spend two hours in the cold. Actually I'm gettin out my insulated pants and my winter jacket - the poor kids though need to hit and throw so you can't bundle em up to much.Looking forward to higher temps.

Only 3 squash out of a dozen living and only 4 cuks out of 9. More in the greenhouse ready to go out. Cabbage and onions are doing great too. Town Board meeting tonight. Been out in my shop working on my power pack for converting 12VAC to 4.5VDC. I decided to do it myself instead of buying Miller Engineering's unit, I like the challange.

I'm trying something a bit different with this one, instead of using two resistors and trying to find the pair that gets closest I'm using one resister and a 1K pot. to allow for fine adjustment. Bench wired using jumpers so far so good. Tomorrow I'll mount all the components on a piece of aluminum and hard wire it.

Nite all.

Yes Roger, I too do the same sometimes. A challenge is good for the brain

Buckeye,With a lot of horse manure, a heated greenhouse with an automatic sprinkler system we can extend our growing season here to almost 60 days. And yes I kept looking for the Chief jokes this past week, man are you slipping.

Welcome back Chief.

I think we are having an Idaho/Washington Forum summit here next Sunday. One of the members from WA. is coming up to Gods Country to run trains. Have to get some oil for the traditional oiling of the Cab-1...................Later....Tim

Good Morning,

Wowser bowser, we were 2 degree's from a record low this morning, this is CRAZY. We use propane for our heat and I was hoping for a nice carry over this summer, now I hope we make it to the end of the week! LOL :)

Chief, I will email you our time frame for Wilmington. We plan on renting a car and will have the freedom (after the wedding) to get away from the tribe and explore the area. We definietly need to get together.

Have a great day.

Forgot to mention - I saw an all-fallen-flags consist in the Crystal Lake sidings today - mostly flats and gons - MSTL, DRGW, IC, CNW, MoPac, Soo, and WC - usually they are just CN, NS and all those company X marks.

It's springtime on the UP, lotsa of track fixin' equipment around - and cubes of new ties - here's another interesting consist I saw: flat, Burro crane, flat with short container on it (not quite a transfer caboose), then another Burro, and another flat.

Hello All!

Just back from York. Had a great time. Laz - I am sorry we didn't get to meet. We ended up in the Orange hall next to Lionel and Island Trains.

Found some good stuff and as usual spent too much money. Found a nice set of Lionel PW 2400 cars (the green ones) to go with my Pennsy Turbines. These cars were in Wiliams' booth and supposedly were part of Jerry Wiliams' collection. Picked up a Williams 027 FA UP A-A set for $180 (wow). Got an Industrial Rail 3-car log car set for just $25 and an Industrial Rail UP cattle car (these are getting scarce) for just $18. There was a guy selling a 2-car set of the IR UP cattle cars (they made two car numbers) for $125! I passed on that.

LIonel had a really cool booth, a full size replica of the pre-war Power Station. It was nearly 3 stories tall with the smoke stacks! Got to meet Jerry Calabrese (really nice guy and appears in tune with the market). Also met Lenny Dean and we got our picture taken with him. Saw Neil Young each time he came in Once each day). Some were able to get his autogragh on a car. The Cab Forward being demonstrated was excellent (one of my co-horts bought one at the show).

The Lionel Acela was a non-operating prototype, so that was disappointing. Lionel was also rumored to make some TMCC II annoucement, but I did not hear any nor did anyone else I spoke to.

MTH had the same booth as last year, so no big changes there. They did have some Ga 1 protoypes (also non-operating) on display. What disappointed me was they did not have the new Premier 4-4-0 for display (it was supposed to deliver in April). I asked around and out of all the people on their booth (8 - 10), only one guy (Mark) knew anything about the product (six - eight weeks late and he did not understand why they did not have a prototype either). I was blown away that no one other than "Mark" even knew they had the 4-4-0 as a product! What was also interesting is that MTH had a roller track display with a Premier Santa Fe Hudson, a Premier NYC Hudson, and a Premier (I forgot the road name) articulated. So I was able to test all 3 side-by-side. They all have the exact same chuff sound. Only the whistles differed sightly (between the 2 Hudsons - very slightly - the articulated had a steamboat whistle that sounds almost identical to my PS1 SF Northern). I had suspected this on some other MTH locos I have, but I will have to say that Lionel has MTH beat in attempting to provide some "personality" to each type of loco offered.

K-Line had their same booth from last year. Some nice new products with the roadrailers (streets with operating cars) and I really liked the new suburban "tank" locos (4-6-6). I am propbably going to get one of these in the NYC scheme.

Lots of other cool displays at Weaver, Ross, Train America, etc. I also saw a lot of very interesting pieces (out of my price range) and talked to a lot of very nice people.

After the show ended Sat, we spent Sun and Mon going to the TCA museum (very nicely done and what history), the Train Barn layout, road the Strassburg train, pumped the Strassburg handcar down and back on their side track, PA State RR Museum (very cool and nicely done), B&O RR Museum (rebuilt and very nice - the Tom Thumb and other 100 - 170+ year old locos are magnificent), and toured the ships in the Baltimore harbor area.

All in all - an excellent trip and lots of fun!

Have a great day all!
Roy

Regards, Roy

Got to spend three hours at the doctors office with my son this morning. He banged his hand on another guy's helmet yesterday in football practice (spring training). The trainer thought it was just a bruise, but it was pretty painful so the trainer got us hooked up with the team doctor today.

X-rays: 5 minutes
Time doctor spent with us: 4 Minutes
Time nurse spent putting splint on his hand: 3 minutes
Time spent walking from office to radiology and back : 3 minutes
Intervening waiting periods: 2 hours and 45 minutes

Too bad doctors' offices don't have drive-through windows!

It's trying to turn into Spring out here but it's not having a lot of luck. Still getting quite a bit of shower activity. I'm getting my raft and kayak ready for the Spring run-off. Took Hoppy up the mountain the other day for a little frolic in the snow. He's quite the snow dog.

Tom, thank you so much for your gracious offer of Northern hospitality while I’m on the road in Cleveland. Needless to say, on Friday, I am needed in the Cincinnati area, and will scoot out of Cleveland fairly quickly. (Isn’t it interesting that when I get close to NC that the hospitality seems to be caring a firearm? And when the Suthern gentleman that we all love, visits the Great State of Ohio, home of U.S. Grant, he flushes twice.) [:D][:D]

In the event that my plans change, I will give you a call.
