FYI there is a Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota just off I 90 in the eastern part of the state. We stopped there on our way back from our trip in February and early March. You would have to see it to believe it. Thier gift store has just about everything you could want with the Spam logo. On our trip we saw quite a few trains. We stopped at North Platt, Nebraska at the Union Pacific switching yard. We did not find the overservation point, but watched from the overpass which gave us a very good view.

Tom,

Was editor of Trains. They didn't so much as send me a letter or postcard. Nothing.

Do I really want to work for an organization like that? NOT! (course it could have gotten lost in the mail so will give them benefit of the doubt. However, I did email them the resume as well).

BTW, Tom, I do enjoy your "Picks" of the day even tho I don't reply to them (otherwise I'd be replying ad infinitum. You do manage to seek out new angles each time. Very creative and speaks highly for the amt of clutter you've managed to form into a nice layout.

----------

Glad, doug, you're getting a review (and possible raise)?

I've had my share of horror stories. Worked for one cheapskate once who would only give you a raise if you threatened to leave.

At my last job, I agreed to the job verbally b/c everyone was in Seattle on a Conference and the director, a retired Air Force officer, promised me XX dollars. When I got there, they lowered my pay the first day by 10%.

Unfortunately, I'd already left the previous job and was stuck. Fortunately, my coworkers were great and the job was too. However, I did eventually leave b/c of the a**hole who lowered my salary. And do you know what? THose kinds of people always hang around the company and you can't really get rid of them.

I love my current job. It pays well; coworkers are nice. I make my own decisions and am not responsible for managing others. It's the idea job. And, everyone from the snuffies to the generals give compliments and the raises come regularly and are good; as are the bonuses. Don't really work much overtime either.

And, when Monday rolls around; I'm eager to start work. How many folks can say that?

Not many, I imagine.

It was a stormy morning here today, thunder, lightning, and heavy rain moved through about 8 and was done with by noon. Glad I had to work an extra 1/2 hr. today, on the way I go home a large oak tree fell across the main road. The extra time at work allowed them to clear the road. Some poor girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time, she was talking to a deputy as I passed and I noted her car had a broken windshield and dented hood.

Since this afternoon's race in Alabama is delayed due to rain I guess I'll just HAVE to go run the trains. AWWWW,

Good afternoon from rainy Alabama.

Hard drive crashed and burned on the desktop PC. Using my son's laptop at the moment. Now I have to decide whether to go through the headache of trying to install a new hard drive or bite the bullet and buy a new PC. At least I backed up all of the important stuff.

Tom,

About 20 years ago I paid $500 for a 20MB hard drive.

Reg. Spam again. Isn't it wondrous that when we were kids (those of us middle agers), our parents fed us spam, cooked w/lard and did all the wrong things, and there weren't many fat kids back then.

Now, with all the diets and health foods, obesity runs rampant.

Rust-colored the last of my rails and spiking them down. Took off from work Monday to work more on the layout and run the hound.

You guys from NC and Alabama must've sent some rain up our way cause it's coming down like cats and dogs.

Well, after reading all that I think I'll have a spam and peanut butter sandwich, and chase it down with IBC root beer.
Tilled the mates garden, burnt large slash pile, dug out about 15 stumps for the neighbor with the backhoe, and that was before lunch. Of course bear in mind that its daylight here at 5:15 am.
Thinking of converting another engine to TMCC. It already has an OTT sound unit, so wont need RS . Like I dont have enough projects. Started the cardboard webbing for hardshell between the upper and lower level. It is going to take many pounds of plaster. Off to spamville............Tim

Bright and sunny this morning, in the upper 50's going into the upper 70's. Sure beats the rain of yesterday.

I was going to run over to Radio Shack today to pick up the parts to make a 4.5 VDC power adapter for a Miller Eng. neon sign I have, tired of replacing batteries when I forget to shut it off when I kill the main for the layout. Don't know if I will follow through, I saw an add that Miller has come out with the exact unit for $12.95 and I don't know if I can get the parts for much less then that.

HI GIZ,

Went to YORK yesterday with my wife. Had a great time but there just isn't enough time, 5hours to see 6 building of stuff. I didn' see three of the buildings and we were walking and looking pretty quick. ROY sorry I didn't hook up with you. We were in the purple hall about 12:30 or so and I couldn't find you maybe in October we will hook up. Saw lots of cool stuff but forgot to take the camera to take some pics. Meet ROGER CARP of CTT and got and autograph on the latest edition of CTT magazine. Nice guy. Bought a S{ searchlight and smoking caboose Lionel #19707 for $60, from nice people from COLUBUS OHIO. Also bought a MTH bobber caboose from adealer in the Orange hall that is the big dealer hall at YORK. Caboose for 37 bucks. SPANKYBIRD I finally got JTs mega smoke in vanilla and grandpa pipe tobacco for 5 bucks a bottle.
All and all was a great day but wish it would last till 5 so you could see it all. Now I have to wait six months for the next YORK meet.

Spank ;

Cool looking K-4 in the above pic and on Sunday Photo Fun. What kind is it?

Lionel had one a couple of catalogs ago for around $350 but I bought a WP F-7 AA lashup instead which set me back about 7 bills - not complaining though. I still lust for a K-4 however, even with the awkward Belpaire boiler which I've never found particularly attractive. I'm also partial, for the most part, to locomotives with their headlights placed in the bulls-eye position on the smokebox front rather than over the top of the boiler's front end. The rest of the K-4's proportions though add up to a classic steam locomotive - a true thoroughbred. A 'must-have' in my mind for any steam afficionado such as myself.

Thanks for the words of sympathy over my late, lamented hard drive. [:(] At least I still have computer access between my office and my son's computer.

Had a funny incident this morning while I was preaching in our second worship service. I noticed quite a few people smiling and looking at something to my right. A small, green lizard was running back and forth on the floor between the platform and the first row. Apparently, it had hitched a ride in one of the ferns brought in to decorate the sanctuary. (What is it with churches and ferns?) I thought our children's minister was going to crack up laughing. The old Ray Stevens song about the squirrel going berserk in church started going through my mind. I managed to maintain my "ministerial dignity" [;)] and fini***he sermon. Said lizard declined to join the church, but promised to visit again soon. [:D]

Dr. John, my nephew at Easter dropped a ton of jelly beans on the floor during the sermon. Now that by itself is not that big of deal, but the church was an old design with the floor sloped to the front. The beans ran under all the pews to the front and stopped in front of the lecturn.

Even though he is thirty years old, he is reminded of this incident at Easter every year.

Teachers and preachers need to write books.

Thirty + years ago I was setting up in one end of the gym for a concert that evening and I knew a salesman was about to stop for his weekly visit. I asked one of my students to leave the door ajar so the salesman would see us. One minute later the student sticks his head into the gym and says "Mr. E--- I can't find the jar".

I have lots more than that one but it's still one of the funniest.

Well, yesterday turned cold and blustery - continued into today - we went kite flying at the middle son's suggestion though - for some reason, my kids seem to get a lot of kites as gifts. I throw them in a box in the garage - so we took a few out today and boy, did they get aloft. Also, went along shopping with my wife so I could sneak into the hobby store next door with the youngest - it was a HobbyTowne USA - a nice clean place - not much O - but plenty of R/C - and some interesting gadgets - two-inch-long solar displays and all sorts of mini-plastic robot kits I could instantly think of train uses. Have a great evening before back-to-work. David, I must say I still like going to work, I count myself fortunate.

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is partly cloudy with rain on its way, again. We had some rain yesterday with snow mixed in.

Thanks to Johnnyc for hosting the instructions for how to post photos.

Photo Posting

We talked the other day about digital vrs film photos and no doubt the film has higher resolution, but since Christmas I have taken over 1500 pics with my new camera. I would never have done that with 35mm.

Scratch, you are a great golfer to make those scores in the rain. [bow][bow]

Of course, here in Ohio, the home of Jack Nickalus, we learn to play golf in the snow. Needless to say, the forcast for Spankybird last night was snow flurries. [:(][:(] Since it is only flurries, it must be spring! [:)][:)]

Again, thanks to Johnny C the photo posting instuctions can be shared with one and all. You wouldn't believe how many questions Tom gets about posting photos here on the forum.

Tim, I'm amazed that at your altitude there in Idaho you plant a garden. When I have been in that part of the country it looks like hardly anything would grow.

Everyone have a good week and Tom, I'm scheduled to be in Cleveland on Thursday. I will let you know the particulars after this mornings meeting with the boss.

The Chief must be back from his fishy show and sleeping late. I missed my chance to tell some good suthern jokes. [;)]

Good Morning,

Who the heck left the refrigerator door open? It's been terribly cold here for a week and the wind just won't stop, that's the worst part. Tonight is supposed to hit 30....... and then a warm up for the rest of the week.

We were in Omaha, NE this weekend for the Berkshire-Hathway conference with Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. Very interesting get together of people from all over the world, about 20,000 attending and no, we don't have stock, we were guests. While there, attendees can make purchases from his companies at huge savings and I've got my eye on a laptop but I have to decide today. I really miss being able to use my computer while being gone, especially when I have to us a Windoze machine at a motel. It's to bad Buffet doesn't own a train company so I could buy a reduced prices once a year.

Time to get downstairs and run trains.

Beautiful morning in Prattville, AL. Sunny and warm with a slight breeze and very low humidity. This is the kind of weather you wish you could keep in a can and open in July or August.

Scratch - congratulations on the fine rounds of golf. I never cared for playing in the rain, but then good weather doesn't help my golf score either!

Cold - really cold - 40s - and sunny today. Busy preparing for the girls to go to Disney World as sort of an 8th grade graduation trip. I'm going to take Wed-Mon. off to be with the boys (age 2 and 11). I'm mapping it all out - going to the Volo auto museum - they have all these classic cars and they're for sale too. Will try to leave without buying the Batmobile or the Dukes of Hazzard charger; the Museum of Sci and Industry for the train exhibit and the IL Railway Museum - Chief, Bass Pro Shops is starting to advertise pretty heavily in the local paper - although the nearest store is a ways away. Ever coming this far north? Scratch, looks like great numbers for your game in the rain. I don't really know how to play golf - I have my granddad's old clubs (from the 1930s...), and have been out a few times - people laugh when they see 'em, but I guess I swing them like a baseball bat - I'm terrible. Dr. John, speaking of your story - went to church last night and guess what happens:a 2 year old climbs up a pile of stuff during children's church and pulls the fire alarm (thank goodness it wasn't my son). The alarm goes off just as the pastor pauses for breath after speaking of God's righteous justice. Last summer, the same thing happened - only with a thunderclap instead. He certainly has the gift of timing.

Hello Everyone ! I think Dave should write a children's book about BB the beagle & The Loose Caboose. BB rides the loose caboose looking for rabbits, when a freight train loaded with peanut butter passes by. BB jumps off the loose caboose and starts running towards the Boxcar with the Peanut Butter loaded on it and becomes one very happy beagle when a conductor catches her and says " BB, You greedy beagle. You cannot have all of the Peanut Butter on this train. I'll have to call your owner and report you,You're a Rabbit hunter, and peanut butter's not for Dogs." I'm sure Dave has plenty to write about with all of BB's hilarious hijinks combined with his railroading would make a interesting book for everyone to read.........Keith [:)][;)]
