Good Morning all

NE Ohio has Blue Clear Skys with temp at 15. Be sure this won’t last,
the weatherman say big storm tonight and Monday, 4” to 6” of snow on the way, and Chief should be seeing it today.

With two train shows today, I believe we are just going to make the one closest to home.

PI Tim – good to see you back, we missed you

All be safe

Guys, I've never posted on this topic before, but it seemed to be the most poplular, and I would like your input regarding my post this evening in the "Lionel Trains in Attic" topic. I hope I'm not off base on this one. Please provide your input on that thread so FoundEmInAttic can see them.

Have you ever heard of Gladys Kravitz ? Well, your post on the other topic reminds me of her.

Here's avery touching story I want to share

In April's Trains magazine, reading Phillips' column. He writes about a recent trip to Eritria on the Horn of Africa, a poor country with a spectacular mountain RR that went into abandonment a couple decades ago. Villagers took the ties and rails and stuff as they were impoverished and likely used them for their houses and huts.

Recently, the country gained its independence and someone suggested reviving the RR. But the country was too poor to buy track so a call went out to volunteer to return the tracks. Villagers from all over came with their rails and ties and pitched in to build the RR.

Another problem arose when there were no diesels to run. Couldn't afford these so they brought the rusty ole tiny steam locomotives but people had forgotten how to use them.

A 96 year old engineer volunteered to get the locomotive going and run it regularly. They offered to pay him but he refused.

Don't tell me wonders don't happen.

HI GUYS,
Woa is the CHIEF gonna be a bet rough under the collar after reading BUCKEYEs jabs. But to tell ya the truth I was LOL at a bunch of them, just having to talk to the CHIEF recently.
JIMBO, The ladies are giving me those treats already[;)], just got some woopy pies from the one across the street.
Gunna get 4-8 inches tomorrow so got to OIL that snowblower.
TOM any good buys at the train meet?
Went to the Allentown meet yesterday with my brothe and friend those guys made some good purchases but I just checked out some of the newer stuff there. About 3-4000 people a big turn out. Was interested in the K-Line Shay that was going for $750 but declined till I find out a little more about it. Just picked up light bulbs and pads for my track cleaner. Brother got a 1990 work caboose with light and lit interior and smoking stack for $65. It was mint condition and you will see it on SUNDAY FOTO FUN later.
Have a good one and lets be safe out there today and tomorrow.

Feeling a little better today. This flu really sucks. Think I'll go down to the shop and drill a few holes in my head to relieve the pressure.
Went to the Spokane train show last weekend and bought a Lionel 6840 Doublestack Set from 1997 I think. It's the LTTX articulated set. It appears to be near scale. Anyways it looks good with Railking or scale size engines. I am posting another question on the forum to see how the rail king husky stacks would look with these, and also what else lionel has made to match these cars.
Or how about K line articulated cars?
Back to the recliner for now............Tim

Started building a blacksmith's forge this afternoon, after the rain forced me to cease yard work. Of course its O-scale for the layout. I'm using a piece of cigar tube as the forge with small details to be added on. I plan on using a red LED buried in some coal to supply the red glow. I'll probably have to play around selecting the right resistor to get the intensity I want. I've been trying to decide what to do with the blacksmith I have and the idea struck me while working outside.

Just a enough snow to stick to the trees -- looking purdy - and mess up the morning rush - I felt sorry for everyone as I whooshed by on the train. I tried making my mountain tunnel this weekend - what a fiasco - following the instructions with my LifeLike Mountain Paper turned out to be like leaving a paper bag out in the rain. I tried to rescue everything by cutting out a 'ridge' of four cardboard boxes and draping the paper over it. Doesn't look bad if I squint. .. I'll have to clean it up and post some pictures for you to laugh at! PI Tim, hope you're getting better. One of the kids got a fever back again last night. Hard to beat this bug away...Have a great day!

Morning all. Got home at 1 AM. Seems US Air in Charlotte and I can not get along. Do fine everywhere else but they can not get a plane in and out on time there. Cold rain so I thought I do the Yanks a favor and send them SNOHIO. [:D] Got to get busy. Got Dr's apts today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Fly out to Baltimore on Thrusday. Memphis has two hobby shops. One a mess [but found a steal on K-Line box cars with sprung die cast trucks. Lady checking my bag with NTS said she ahd never seen toy train box cars packed in a bag before. The other one had lots of stock but marked at MSRP. No way. God bless all.

Morning all!

Sorry to hear abou the snOHIO today. Weather last night said a winter storm would be trudging across the eastern part of the country today. Here it is low 60's and sunny, but that starts changing tomorrow (cloudy and rain).

PETim - how do you get the flu when you live in a very rural area? Hope you get better soon. Take it easy.

Have a great day all!
Roy

Good morning y'all,

SoCal had a sunny weekend, can't remember those. [:)]

PI Tim get better. I sent an email update ,did you receive it. I thought the clear skys of Idasnow keep the flu away. What is up ?

Doug, glad the daughter and wife are doing well, hope they keep getting healthier.

Our overflow dam didn't break but did cause havoc downstream. All the rain is still causing mudslides, it just took a while to crash.

Started a new job this Saturday, doing low interest mortgage loans. Looks like I can buy trains soon, if this weekend was any indication.

Take care all,

Tim

Chief, when in Baltimore having a couple of crab cakes and a dozen oysters on the half shell think of me. That's two of the things I do miss from when I lived up there. For train stores the only one I can suggest is Klein's somewhere on the east side of down town, parking is a pain, eventhough I remember them as mostly HO they sometimes do have good buys on what O-gauge they do carry.

When I was up there for Christmas I checked the yellow pages, it looks like most of the new train stores are out in the western suburbs.

I don't know if this warning still applies ,but behave and stay away from "THE BLOCK".

guys, I'm building a target switch stand (functioning) this afternoon and wonder the best way to make a circle out of a sheet of brass.

I'm going to use tin snips and bench grind it round but wonder if there's a better way.

Dave, for O gauge stuff I use a plain old hole punch (about 1/4 inch). If you need other diameters you can make a punch from steel tubing, etc.

A target signal would be about the size of a nickel (a bit larger than scale but so are my ties. Thanks for ideas.

Roger B, I will actually be in Hanover [wherever that is??]. I'll find it when I get to the rental car location. They always know and have a map. Noticed all the Yankees got quite. Think the snOhio has them down and out. Trains ran good this AM. Gave the two new box cars a good run around the track. Need to work those diecast K-Line couplers. They are always "stiff" and do not like to open and close.

I just developed a special linking gear for the switch stand, a folded and twisted double loop to transfer torque from the circular twisting switchstand to the throw rod's linear action. The gear is soldered to the throw rod and is free turning to the switch stand rod. Joy at last! I'll try to figure out how to shape a round brass target last.
