Doug--

Here's the info you need for spring training for the Cubbies, it would be so tempting to go for a long weekend, wish it weren't so far.

http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/chc/ticketing/spring_training.jsp

When we used to live in northern IA we would make several trips to MPLS and see the great Twins players of years ago (early '70's) and sit outside and have great times for a very reasonable price. Then they built the Metrodome and it just wasn't the same but we kept going, then they won the World Series and everything went down hill. High prices, rude ushers, etc. Last year we went again and it's probably been 15 years, small crowds and high prices. The ticket was the cheapest part of the night. I do hate indoor baseball.

We have the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines, Tripple A affiliate and it's wonderful. We have one of the best tripple A parks around and they get great support. Fun to see the future stars come through DM at a very reasonable price. Watched Mark Grace break into the bigs (he was not here long), Cory Patterson was here quite a while and then Mark Pryor to just name a few.

Our boy's still buy score cards when we go to games (at least when we can get together) and that really makes the game fun. The first year I retired there was a 12:05 p.m. weekday game in May and I went. I called my friends at school while I was having a dog and brewsky, they didn't appreciate my thoughtfullness[:D]

Laz--

It's a great game to watch unless you're a Cubs fan like me and you to have watch the season slip away like it did in the last week of last year. And, there's always NEXT YEAR and NEXT YEAR is soon to be here. Baseball has always been my favorite round ball sport, right after Le Tour De France. I'd love to see Barry Bonds or Corky Sosa try and keep up with Lance AND do drug tests.

Took a "Train Day' today. Just finished a lunch of red beans and rice with fresh cornbread, yum, yum. My wife has stoled the new Lionel camelback. She says I need to buy more steam engines, she really likes them. Thank goodness I havent told her how to operate TMCC, well maybe I should , after all she is painting the backdrop. Later....Tim

I was going to start a thread on this, but am not sure about Off-Topic Threads. IN any event, if you have not yet seen it, get out to the video store and rent "Ray". It was released on dvd today.

This is academy award sweep material.

You will be blown away by Ray.

Slow day for me. 80mph 3/4 of the way to Mom's, took her to lunch [buffet of bar-be-que, cole slaw, fried chicken, collards and chicken pastery], got the oil changed in her car [she told me she had done it, yes in 05/04!!!!],negotiated
rent for farms [with no tobacco allotment now], drove back at 80 mph, called Miss Edna and told her no time to visit today but will tomorrow and got to ACE Hardware to get Christmas trees and carry to pond. Wow, did run trains before I left this AM. Too much for a retiree. [;)] [:D]

Good day everyone,
61° and sunny here at 3 PM. The sun sure makes it feel much warmer than that though. I need to go browse through some more train catalogs. [:D]

Thanks Tom [:D] all the dots in trees are the visiting parrots. Still no blue one, but someone swears they saw a purple one. Is there a purple parrot ?

PEtim, good to see my namesake around, thought you got snowed in. Good to see you sent it south to the chief.

JON,
I know what your going through. I'm an INDIANS fan and in 97 Joe Mesa needed one more strike and the tribe would have won the series instead I have to wait till maybe this year. Its always the same story but this could be the year.

Hey Buckeye, Gound Hog Day is Feb 2. not too far away. I was thinking about doing some hunting. That way if he see his shadow, and I get him, he can't go down that hole.

Chief, One of the gentleman that I occaissionally run with at the museum makes up his own loads, repaints, numbering etc. Last friday while I was setting the power systems for the day he and another member were discussing the way he does his renumbering. I don't know what brand of loco, since both have quite an assortment, but he said that he uses alcohol and cotton balls to remove the decalling without damaging the paint. Maybe others in the forum can provide additional info. [:-^]

Back home in Michigan there is always 6 weeks of winter after Feb 2 regardless of shadows. Actually there is at least 10 weeks of winter. Up there the saying is " we have 11 months of winter and 1 month of rough sledding"

Thanks Doug, do a little checking for me. Let me know. I have repainted and decaled whole shells but not tried to remove a single number.

Good morning and Happy Groundhog's Day. The sun isn't up in Ohio, so we don't know the outcome of Buckeye Chuck's prediction.

Tom, can you believe the Chief gave us such a nice compliment:

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio has a clam start to the day, temp at 24 deg going up to 38, no rain or snow, partly sunny, so Buckeye will mostly be correct, the ground hog will see his shadow.

But then again, I don’t ever remember have an early spring, do you [?]

Turbo Tim – the Hyacinth Macaw is a blueish purple color. I will have to check the web for a pic of one.

Larry – It must be good to be back home, even if the temp is a little brisk.

Get ready for a Goat Reunion, it’s coming

Pick of Day

all be safe

Great Pick of the Day, Tom. It looks like a helicopter shot out of a railfan video. Chicago's answer to Pennsylvania's storied groundhog...Pulaski Phil has seen his shadow this morn.

Morning folks,
I went to school this morning, and am back home again. I've had a nagging sinus toothache/headache/earache for a couple of day, and it finally got to the point where I couldn't stand it. Thank goodness I had some Vicoden left over from the wisdom teeth back in December(only took two back them), as that's been quite useful in the past couple of days. I'm off to the doctor later, but am home at least until then.

Hope that you all have a good day!

Actually, I am not back home in Michigan, we will not be there until the end of April. The snow does not melt until then. I have a weather station on my roof that is connected to a computer that updates my weather web site automatically every ten minutes. That is how I keep up with the weather back home. I even have cameras connected to the internet that I can monitor from out here. With the weather site we are able to tell the inside temperature of our house. By monitoring the inside temp we can tell if the furnace is working. Right before Christmas it quit so we had to call someone to come and fix it. We leave the heat on in the house because it is better for it not to freeze. If anyone is interested in seeing a current view looking down my street from my garage window here is the link: www.moranweather.com Have a good one!!

Good morning all, hope everyone is doing well.

It is a balmy 45 this morning, but should be around 78 or so. It was nice and warm yesterday.

Tom, thanks for the info on the purple parrot. Now I will have to take a real pic with my non digital camera, and see if I can use my telephoto lens. NIce smoke in your pic. Wish my HO steamer did the same.

I have a friend selling 12 engines and 16 passenger cars. My railroad may be getting a lot bigger in trains here shortly.

Laz, be PA proud, you have a team in the Superbowl, out west, your team is the closest to us. Hmmmmmmmmm do we exist out here ?????

Larry, nice webcam, too cold for me.

Take care guys, have a great day.
