Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is calm and cool, temp at 28 with a high of 36, same as the last several days.

Tubo Tim – great start on your layout.[8D]

Pe Tim – Great looking fish, but Buckeye and I know that Chief doesn’t know how to use your ‘Red Neck Measuring Tape’, but I love it.[:D]

Roger – the hyacinth macaw is now endangered because of the destruction of the rain forest. A friend of mine, who also does breading, has one which is now in a breading program. These birds mate for life, and usually bond with their mate and you then loose your pet.

Pick of the Day

Tim, that's what we call a six and 1/2 half canner. I have always wanted to go fishing in your area of the country.

Larry, I know St. Ignace and the Straits area very well. Thirty years ago this summer my wife and I were married and our honeymoon was at the Strats. We have returned to the straits area many times and have enjoyed it immensly. When I go fishing this year in Canada, we usually stay at the Soo on the trip north, but have in the past stayed at St. Ignace. It is very interesting to see how the residents of the island use the Christmas Trees to mark a path to the mainland.

My first visit to St. Ignace was on a bicycle. We rode from our home town of Auburn, Indiana, north through Michigan with stops at Battle Creek, Lake City, Petosky and Mackinac. The railroad ferry was still running in the late 1960s and would dock there at the tracks in St. Ignace.

One of my favorite train rides is farther north in Canada, the Algoma Central. Someday I would love to have a model of that train.

Pigseye,

That's a neat technique for measuring your fish.

BB still has a cut on her paw and is limping so haven't run the hound in a while. I'd like to take her fishing sometime down by the beaver dam.

I'll post my track plan in a day or so. It's a point to point so I know everyone will like it. ahem.

Morning Folks,
Home from school again today. It seems that I have a local infection around the teeth that have been bothering me, so off to the dentist here in a little bit.

Hope that you all have a good day!

Good Morning,

Had another great day yesterday working with middle school ladies and gentlemen and spending the night with our oldest son and wife. Our oldest son is also a band directror in a large 4A school and has turned into quite the wood worker, I'm really impressed with his furniture building and he's never had any experience from me or at school. It's just something he has fallen in love with. He made these steps for me on a recent snow day, should help the vertically challenged see the trains even better. I'm thinking he might need to add some sort of a support handle at the top to keep hands off the table so they have something to lean on.

JON,
Nice wood working stools. I am a wood shop teacher and your son did a good job. It is a shame that they are starting to phase out a lot of shop programs in the school systems because of economics and frankly because there are fewer people wanting to teach, especially in the IA field,or in the trades in general.

35 degrees and raining. Think we dodged the Buckeye bullet again. Wife wants me to run an errand for her. Why not yesterday when it was sunny and 50 degrees???? Well, just for that I'll run by Miss Edna's while I'm out. Picked up a nice Lionel oil pumping station for a very good price while I was there yesterday. [:)] Now for a sausage biscuit and coffee. Have a good day and God bless all.

Yes Jon. Think I'll build one or two for that same reason. Good idea and looks good too. Used a little step ladder [about 2 1/2 feet tall] before. That is great.

Laz,

I completely agree with you, it would be a horrible disservice to eliminate programs that directly affect kids and their future's. I've seen in my former school what the kids learned with hands on experience, they have a waiting list in the building trades class of folks in our district who want them to build smaller buildings on their properties. What a great opportunity for the kids but yet with the Bush BS of No Child Left Behind those programs are in danger of elimination. As you know, some kids are just not test takers, it's a fact of life but how do you tell the bureacrats that? Then they come back to the school and say they are not doing their job and place them on a "watch list", what a crock. Sorry, I could go on and on about this........ if they would just let teachers teach life skills instead of teaching to tests we would all be better off.

Go Jon Go. [:)] Bush is a lot of BS [now he wants to give SS to his business buddies. You invest and we will take]. Problem is, we didn't have a great choice. MY [2c] worth. They all want to impress folks and they use the kids to do it. I still wonder if the Buckeyes know how to count. [;)]

Good morning all, hope everyone is doing well.

PEtim you are having a virtual heatwave, woo hoo. [:D]

Jon, nice steps, they look great.

Laz, wish I had taken your class. I did have some fun with the benchwork, I sanded all the 2 x2 and 1 2. No more ugly wood, just nice smooth pieces, now I have to decide whether to paint the wood, or stain it.

Chief, I thought you would like the State of the Union, it almost was short, under an hour, lots of cheers, and Hilliary didn't fall over. [:D]

Ben, I hope you get better, take care of them teeth.

Take care all,

Tim

As much as I like President Bush, the "No Child Left Behind" crap is one thing I have to very strongly disagree with him on.

As a direct result of "No Child...", teachers at my school have been required to do stupid things that really detract from their overall teaching. Every month, they are required to assemble a "white notebook" which contains samples of student work, lesson plans, etc. and turn it in for it to be graded. What happens is they spend class time working on this white notebook rather than teaching, the thing that they were hired to do.

It doesn't stop there, either. Teachers are required to submit detailed daily lesson plans to the office. They spend their time typing those out, rather than teaching. The best teachers that I have don't have a detailed lesson plan already made out; they go on a few general notes and other things.

I could go on and on, but I'll spare you all.

Hey all, I am very sad this morning. Over in the garden railway section, the PC police erased the coffee shop thread. Said it was not about trains. Had some overseas folks quit the forum, then this morning it was gone. In less than a month, it had over 200 posts, and 2000 views, but a few had it killed. Sad. [xx(][xx(]

Turbo-Tim, I just saw that. Sorry to see that happen.

Maybe you should have posted a pic of a trian every day, then it would have had something to do aboout trains and other stuff, like birds, cars, etc.

There were some comments made on the GR forum and some members were offended by it and quit the forum. It also seems that forum has many more international members than our forum does.

Even thou us in Buckeye land do consider Chief in a different country, he won't leave, nor would we really want him to.

Sorry to hear about the Coffee Shop over on GR. I know that I have really enjoyed this one here on CTT, although I stared at it every day for nearly a year before I started posting to it. I am glad that I started posting to it.

Tom, Obviously the Chief has bribed you with a new bass boat to make those type of coments. [:D] I'm still sitting on the front step, in the cold, waiting for my new boat to show up, but at this time I will hold my tongue and not tell you all the things I have learned about the CHIEF and his John Deere Tractor.

Laz and Tom, we just need to hop into a big van and go down to NC, and build a layout for the Chief. We could call ourselves, Layouts for Humanity. I am almost done oiling the battery charger for the drill, so I'm ready to go. [;)] We would probably make the cover of CTT for our noble gesture of generousity. [:D]

Sounds good to me, guys. With the farm rent about 1/3 due to the governmetn conspiricy with the tobacco companies and no money from the tobacco companies as promised. A free layout would be good. Now if you can get Deputy Dog ]Frankie]] to get his mess out, we will be able to build. On the "coffee pot" deal. I think it is too popular and if removed, they will not be happy as we will just move over to the new forum [and this one will be back to only an occassional post like it was last year]. I really think management understands that this has helped relations between the forum members. Now keep it clean and no more "funny" pictures. Isn't there one on MR that is just as popular? Isn't it still in place?

Chris, I just checked and it is true. Thanks for looking too. Good looking engine. Sorry I forgot to post that earlier. Having heart attack. Not really. Got bad case of indigestion and it is right uner the breat bone that was sawed open in Nov. It hurts to breath, cough, hic up, sneeze and will not let up. Skippeed lunch and then ate big dinner. Go to go take a break. Have not had one of those since my surgery. Fizzy Diet Coke helps. Later.
