Sunny and warm. The Sir Walter Raleigh ground hog [or whatever his stupid name is] will see his shadow. Thent he Tom and Buckeye stuff is to arrive tomorrow. Pam has informed her work, "One flake falls and I'm out the door." She's not getting stranded in Raleigh again. Going tp see Miss Edna today as I was running late getting back from Mom's yesterday. Did gt the load of Christmas trees from ACE hardware to drop in the pond. Manager had loaded them in hhis truck so we jsut drove to the pond and he helped me unload them. Not to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get cement blocks to put on the end of them. Drop them off the front of the boat and they slowly float down and stand up on the bottom. Then all the fishes gather for a party. [:D] Have a good day and God bless all.

Here are a couple of pics of the Hyacinth Macaw

It is very sunny in NE Ohio today, so I bet the ground hog has seen his shadow.

Hi Spanky, beautiful Mcaw, one of the prettiest birds around.
Friend has a Green Wing
I used to have a yellow nape, it liked me but did NOT like women, Finally sold it and it
chased the wife up a broomstick and they had to get rid of it---
Thinking about a Cockatiel-maybe it would like both of us??

Hi Expogs6

Welcome to the coffee pot thread.

Cockatiels are great little birds. I have had plenty of them. The males are great talkers. Most of them will favor one person but are good will all people. IMO, they are the best family bird you can have.

If you never meet Spanky, here is a thread with some of his pics on it.

We have Cockatiel by the name of Tucker who has been with us for 8 years now. He definitely favors my dad, but gets along well with all of us. He also really likes small children, and will usually have a mouthful of talking for them as well.

I agree with Tom, Cockatiels do make excellent family pets.

Okay, we have the hogs predicting 6 more weeks of winter in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and North Carolina , the Chief dumping Christmas Trees into a pond and an indepth discussion on parrots on a toy train forum. Now I understand how Bill Murray must have felt in the movie, Groundhog Day. This is nuts!

Hey Larry. Now you get a video camera connected to your computer and then a train layout connect to the same. Stay down there during the winter and run trains at home and watch them by computer. [;)] Now for the varmits. I have a nice .17 with 3X9 scope that really love to "talk" to them. Off to the Train Lady's. [:D]

laz,
Since you asked, here is how it is done:

You need a weather station, webcam, software for the station and webcam, and of course a computer connected to the internet and also a website. My weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro from Davis Instruments http://www.davisnet.com/weather/products/stations.asp I purchased the station with the optional software. The software is the key to the whole thing and is fairly simple to use. The station transmits weather data to a console inside my house. The console is connected to my computer. The software gets the data from the console every 10 minutes and automatically writes a webpage which it uploads it to my web site. The software came with a standard weather page, but it can be customized as I did. You need a knowledge of the HTML language to do any customizing. The webcam is done by a separate piece of software that takes a still picture every 10 minutes using my webcam. The weather station software uploads the camera image when it uploads the other data. I also have other cameras inside the house on motion detection software. I can access these cameras through a service called GoToMyPc. www.gotomypc.com GoToMyPc allows you to access your computer remotely from any computer in the world that is connected to the internet. The computer that you are accessing must of course be connected to the internet all the time, which mine is anyways because of the weather station. The way I have described it may seem confusing but it is all pretty easy. After all I am legally blind and was able to do it.

The weather station is fun, but what I think is really cool is being able to operate my computer from 2000 miles away.

Hi expogs6,

I now only have the Blue and Gold, the pics of the Hyacinth Macaw I took off the internet.

I used to raise many different birds and at one time had over 50 pairs of cockatiels. There are many rumors on sexing cockatiels. Here are the straight facts, Females lay eggs and males don’t. The underside of the tail feathers on females have yellow horizontal strips on it, males are solid color. Now the bad part, all juveniles under 6 months old have strips. The males change at about 6 months to a year old. The males usually will start chirping sooner, but not always. Color dots on the cheeks have NOTHING to do with the sex of the bird.

Now for Buckeye

tom

Larry, that is really cool.

I have visited the U.P. of Michigan several times and have crossed the Mac in the winter months. The only time I have seen ore trains is at Escanaba in 1991.

There was a program on Georgia PBS about parrots last week. If I remember correctly, the hyacinth macaw is extremely difficult to keep in captivity because of a very limited diet. Even in the wild their range is limited to the area the nut they eat grows in and even becoming less due to logging of the rain forests.

Buckeye,
There used to be train tracks about 2 miles from my house which is near St Ignace. They were taken out in the late 1980's and made into a snowmobile trail. It has been a long time since a train has run through there. At one time the Railroad owned a lot of property around there including some property that I own. At one time there was a lumber yard in town across from the tracks and they used to get their lumber shipped un by train. The railroad died out up there not long after the Mackinac bridge was built. I did not move up there until 1986 so I never saw the train up there.
