Doug M, since you want to abuse your engines, box them up and send them to me. [;)] Turn mine over at least once a month. Look at lube and etc. I also run all of mine at least once a month. I feel this keeps the lube from getting dry and distributes to gears and axles. Motors and worm gears, about once every there months or so on those I run a lot. Once year on those that sit idle and are only run once a month. Once a year, I use a tiny amount of light weight synthetic oil on the axle ends of all of my rolling stock.

Good Morning all, the parrot gang came by early today and woke us up. The big blue macaw hasn't been with him yesterday or today, maybe someone else grabbed him .

Chris your smoke looks great. Can't wait to add steam to my layout.

Doug (chicagoland) be careful on that commute.

Chief, I love going to stores and having the salesman come to me to talk power tools. I send them over to the Mrs., who they ignore, and then go do something fun, like look at computer games or big screen tvs.The look on their faces is priceless. Last night she even said I could use the b & d dremel, not her DREMEL one. Just wait.[}:)]

Almost time I can start drilling my carriage bolt holes, then stability.

Woo Hoo

Hello everyone, Wow this coffee pot is a busy place. If you miss a day you have a lot of reading to do. I think I have decided on a first train set. Well actually my second, the first one was almost 50 years ago and does not exist any longer. The Lionel Keystone Super Freight (6-30000) looks like a good one for me. It is TMCC ready set with a 2-8-4 Berkshire steamer. I really like the steamers over the diesels. Jus Trains has it for $375 but it will not be available until July. That is a long time. I wonder if I will need to pre order. It's a nice day here. Could

Hey Turbo Tim!

Can't wait to see if you survive dinging up your wife's power tools. Now a really smart guy (I'm not one of them) who has a wife with power tools would have her building the train tables! [:D]

I'll bet you got into this situation due to the old story where a gentleman buys his wife power tools for presents thinking she will just give them back to him. Looks like she got the last laugh on you. [:D][:D]

Larry - the gentleman at our local train store said the Lionel pre-sale is going gang-busters and is the best in years. Pre-ordering usually secures you the set and protects you should it prove really popular and the price starts to climb above retail. Check out your dealer to see that he has been reliable in delivering.

Rain finally stopped but it is cold, gray, and cloudy

Have a great day all!
Roy

Regards, Roy

Chris,

I was going to say that my MTH smokes that much for 1/4 the price, but that's not fair, becuase, Jimbo pipe smokes more for the cost of a corn cob.

BTW - that was a great deal. That is also why I run 027, I won't buy it if I can't run it. See how much money I save.

Cold here. Did my 2 miles today. Now I'm sore. Did not walk for 3 days as I figurd that digging post holes and putting up wire was enough exercise. My MTH repair buddy is making me up a kit to light my new MTH NS DASH 8 dummy. Does not cost a lot. There is already a hole in the frame for the off/on switch and bolt holes too. A nice project for me to do. He said I could do electro couolers too. That is going too far. Might try to add smoke later.
Well, I guess we wait and see if the snowhio comes. Now they say we [right here might not get much and maybe rain. That is the same guy that said flurries and it will be quiting any minute the other day when everything got stalled and stranded.

Don't get your hopes up Chief, it just started sleeting here. All the Atlanta news had tonight was the weather, a winter storm watch, they're predicting a 1/2", or more, of ice buildup from freezing rain by morning and it's heading your way. The rain is coming from the south-west heading north-east and the cold out of the north-east. Guess I'll see what it's like going out the driveway at 6:15 tomorrow and decide to go to work or turn around and go back to bed.

Does anyone have any idea of the market value for a K-line collector club 0-4-0, A-5 steam switcher, haven't seen any on eBay? I'm contemplating selling mine when, and if, Lionel ships their CB&Q 0-8-0.

Evening folks,
They're calling for a lot of snow for us tomorrow, but after the last 3 weekends of missed predictions, I'm not quite sure how much I believe them.

Glad that this week is over at school. If we do get the amount of snow that they're calling for, it may be a long weekend, but I can only hope.

Hope that you all have a good evening!

Hi GUYS,
Went to the train store after school(work) today and was presented with the 2005 edition of the Lionel catelog. Good reading tomorrow on the can prbably be in there for half the morning. Lots of great stuff to day dream about. The starter sets have lots of add ons for a cheap price. I think that Lionels starting to get with it and advertise for the new comers in the hobby.
CHIEF they have a NS SD80 set there that really looks great! I think that will probably come home with me. CHIEF by the way, your coal drag is that all NS? I see that there is only one coal car in the set and I am looking for more. Any idears of where to get the NS coal cars?

Good evening all, hope everyone is doing well.

I attached my carraige bolts to the legs, just need to add cross braces, back to the lumber store. Frame is sturdy, and looks great.

Laz, shop class ? I was cutting shop classes so I could learn them new fangled computers. We had ticker tape for our storage, and it ran at 100bps. euwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I did finish a leather shop class, made wallets and id holders, never got into the rest.

This project was fun. I used a skill saw, a screw gun, a drill, a sander, good thing I got three more benches to build.

And yes for those of you dealing with all the Ohisnow and such, we did get rain today. Yes it was a lot. Maybe .33 of an inch. Really. Cold. Really. It is down to a chilly 55 so far, might even get under 50. Really. Cold.

Take care all

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio is cool and quite, temp at 24 deg and a light wind.

Turbo Tim – good to here that your table is up, now help Chief to get his up.

Chief – get your priorities straight – Train table then fence post.

LOL – When I was in High School, it was before computers, maybe before lights and phones.

Good Morning America and all other parts of the planet.

If you haven't seen the posting about nothing to do in Ohio this weekend, you should take a peek at it and see what Spankybird, the Chief and I cooked up to make mock concerning a posting on another forum on why you should oil your MTH PS2 controller. Our advice, don't do it. Needless to say, I didn't oil my cell phone. [:D]

Shop class was my favorite class in school. [:D] Why couldn't school have been shop class all day?

I have been re-wiring the Baltimore, Ohio and Wabash. This time I think I will use different colors of wire. I made it work the first time, but it left alot to be desired. I have also installed a phone in the train room. Chief always calls me when I am under the layout. [:)] You noticed I didn't say under the table.

Chief, looks like you're getting some ohio and sleet today . Hope you can stay indoors. Looks like a quiet week here weatherwise- in the 20s, a few flurries. Almost Feb. Have to remember to start planning something for Valentine's day - make up for all those times I disappear into the basement instead of watching some awful TV show together.... ;) I'm going to puzzle over lubricating or otherwise servicing the older engines today

When I was but a pup, I took a mechanics class with the Boy Scouts. It was four hours every Saturday and there were about a dozen of us. I was probably 16 at the time.

It was at the Dodge Dealer. [:D]

We had all of the late 60's muscle cars everywhere. Dodge was being those cars in all kinds of flourescent colors - orange, line green, yellow and they were just lined up. I doubt they cost 5k at the time.

We got to tool a bunch of em around the parking lot (how insane was THAT dealer?).

Frank53,

When I was 19, I had a new ’69 RoadRunner, at the time $3,000. If I wanted a Hemi in it, it would have been another $1,500, at that time, a 50% increase in the price. Now look what it’s worth.

When I was young, I did a lot of drag racing, including ‘A’ Fuel Dragster. It was a fun time that I will always remember. BTW – I still can’t imagine what it must be like to do the ¼ mile in 4.48 seconds at 330 mph like they do today.
