BCBill, glad you are better. What was your problem? Hope it was not too serious. OHIO is the northern slums of NC. [:D] Well, Cleveland and Columbus is. The rest is fine pretty country. Been up 77 to Cleveland and over the turn pike to MI. Been from Columbus to Wheeling WV. Just can not let Tom and Buckeye get big heads. [;)]

Boxcar, glad to see you posting again. Take care of the north coast. I was in your vicinity yesterday on the turnpike. Needless ot say, you have a bunch of snow that should have been sent to the Chief.

If I understand, Laz you are going to try and hook up with the Chief when he is at the Bass Pro in Harrisburg. Make sure he sees the railroad bridge north of the city across the river. What a structure! The Toy Train museum is not too far away.

I'm still working on a club meeting in San Diego. I'm supposed to go to San Fran in March on business. I sure want to ride the cable cars

Oh yeah Cheif, I'll take some pics of my DIESELS with JT's smoke... Maybe your SD80 would do better with it.

Did you get that one blowout?

The best thing about the south is they don't charge much for us Yankees to come down there and hit the little white ball all over their front lawns in Hilton Head. When my ball goes into the water, I don't ever go after it because I have seen the gators and they are real big.

And another thing, John Deere Tractors are not made in the south, they are made in the north at the Quad Cities which is near Jon. [^][^]

Chris, I running JT's diesel and coal smelling smokes. The Lionel SD80 really has a strong fan as it blows the smoke to the top of the room. My Polar Express smokes like a "train" wiht JT's coal. I use it in my post wars too. I find that int he SD80, a mix of 6 drops of JT's diesel and 3 drops of Lionel makes the best seen smoke. [notice I mentioned Lionel just to rib Tom [;)]]

I have to admit, once in a while I still put a few drops of the MTH fluid in the engines.

I wonder what LGB smoke fluid would do in an O Scale Loco.

Buckeye,
It's best not to put LGB fluid into an O gauge engine. LGB/Suethe fluid is a viscosity of oil closer to kerosene than the much heavier mineral oil that we use in our O gauge engines. Our smoke units get hot enough at times to pass the flash point of LGB smoke oil, which could, in theory, cause it to catch on fire under the right conditions.

Makes sense. The LGBs don't get as hot. BTW, the dropper that comes with LGB smoke makes great sense and everyone else could easiy do the same thing. You can measure the quantity of fluid going into the engine.

A Real Big Howdy To All.
Just got back to Sunny California a few hours ago and wouldn't you know, it's supposed to rain tomorrow. Home at last, home a tlast, thank God Almighty, home at last, if I might paraphrase the Rev. MLK.
The best part is I already have the trains I'll be running at the museum,friday is 027 day, packed and ready to roll.
It was so cold in Florida that 2/3's of the clothes I took never even left my suitcase.

Welcome back Doug !!!! [:D] Why did you bring rain back with you ????[}:)][}:)]
We had spectacular weather while you were gone, around 5 inches of rain, then a 85 degree heatwave last week, now just a little rain. But you know San Diego weather men, they usually are wrong when predicting non sunshine for us.

Chief, nice smoke pics.

Tom, birds could be those quacker birds. Saw one with a hat on like George Washington, he also was eating oatmeal. [:D] Funny how they all just sit and talk, until the big blue macaw comes by, squacks loudly, then off they go to wherever. It started out as a gang of 10-12 that got out as pets, and now there must be close to 400 all over the city. They travel in groups of 100 plus. When they come around even our huge crows leave. I swear some of the crows are so big, they could take a cat with them.

BC Bill, welcome back.

Laz, what a heatwave you are having. Wooooo Hooooo ! Stay warm if you can.

Gotta go refigure my wood footage for benchwork, and some more layout design.

Take care all, and thanks for the Java.

Morning Folks,
Wow, a real heatwave here, too. It's going to be up to almost 50 today! Truth be told, though, I miss the winter weather, and will be glad when it returns. This cycle of bitterly cold/extremely mild is enough to drive one crazy.

Well, off to school. Hope that you all have a good day!

Chief,

The advantage of the floor layout is that you can change the track plans around pretty easily compared to fixed ballast, but I understand you eventually are going to get a table for it.

I spent several hours painting my backdrop yesterday and the results were disasterous. I'm taking tomorrow off to spend more time and repaint the whole thing.

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is warmer [?] this morning, temp at 34 deg with it falling thru the day and chance of snow this afternoon. And so goes Winter.

Turbo tim – The Quaker Parrots will quickly overtake the local birds. That is why many state do not allow you to own them. They can be a very nasty bird. I would love to see the blue Macaw that you have out there. It may be a very valuable and rare bird.

Just wondering if there are any other weightlifters on this forum. I do powerlifting and just started Olympic lifting. It balances out the relatively sedentary toy train hobby and gets the blood flowing.

Whenever I wimp out on a lift, I look at my framed copy of the Bulgarian workout, then slap myself silly to get psyched up. Here's the routine the Bulgarians used for the Olympics (I don't follow it) if you're curious:

Bulgarian weightlifters train a number of times (4-6) per day.* They do not have a great variety of exercises (usually the competition lifts, a “power” variation of the lifts, squats, and sometimes pulls).* They also train at high intensity for most of the year.* In some ways it is similar to the training approach in powerlifter where one only benches, squats, and deadlifts in each workout.* The training is very rigorous and is an example of specificity of training.* Here is an example of a Bulgarian program (preparation of the National Team for the 1980 Olympics):

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
* 09:00-10:00 am: Snatch
* 10:30-11:30 am: Clean and Jerk
* 11:30-12:30 pm: Clean pulls
* 05:00-06:00 pm: Clean and Jerk
* 06:30-07:30 pm: Snatch
* 07:30-08:00 pm: Front Squat
* 08:00-08:30 pm: Snatch Pulls

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
* 09:00-10:00 am: Snatch from the hang
* 10:30-11:30 am: Partial Jerks
* 11:30-12:00 pm: Back Squat
* 12:00-12:30 pm: Power Clean
* 12:30-01:30 pm: Snatch and Clean Pulls

******* In other words, you must be able to lift weights full time for the Bulgarian system to work.* The Bulgarian approach is very successful, but most recreational lifters cannot do it.

Dave,

I can't imagine that the average Joe would survive more than a few days using that work out program. I lift regularly and rely on the advice of a trainer, I think if one were to run that program past a trainer it would evoke lots of laughs. The studs that really get after lifting do it methodically and carefully and are also extremely careful about what they eat, obviously I'm not ever going to be in that group. I've also seen the results of loading up on supplemental "vitamins, etc." and that's not a pretty sight a few years down the road. I also notice that the weight guys never come to spinning class or do much of anything on a cardio basis. I think the most well fit folks do a combination of both and it shows. My advice, lift 4 days a week and try and keep up with BB on a daily basis.

MORNIN GUYS,
CHIEF sounds like these guys have a fully planned weekend for us. Hope you'll have enough time to work at BPS. The bridge BUCKEYE talked abouit is the countries longest arch bridge that leads to the ENOLA YARDS. Big railroad yard for NS that links the north with the south. I know a few guys that work there.
TURBOTIM, got my winter t-shirt on again, warm here at 33.
BOXCAR the store in New Cumberland is still there and the lady tat works there grew up near my hometown, just found this out 2weeks ago. small world? It was an original train station that was moved from a nearby town.
FJand G I stiil try to lift weights about 2-3 times aweek. Something that I did all through school to get in shape for football. After college football days still lifted heavy till about the age of 38. Ten years latter joints started to hurt cut down on time and weight. Now do it basic exercises 30-40minutes to try and maintain health.
SPANKYBIRD, I'm with you 12-16 ozs. at a time works great on the weekends.
Hope all is well.

Morning everyone. A tad warmer but with a stiff breeze keeping the snow from slopping. I think I'll be wearing my boots every day for the next three months. I was driving myself crazy last eve. trying to adjust the 153C connector - I think the signal light enjoys mocking me -twist, twist, green, twist, then red, twist, then yellow, everything fine, run the train past, nothing happens, twist some more, green, run train past, nothing changes, start again, red, twist, twist, yellow...you get the idea...have to get out more and lift some weights of laz' variety.

LAZ, last time I was in Harrisburg, I spent a week with nothing much to do, Wife was there teaching the USDA a new computer program. I went along. Went to a train museum with the local USDA director's wife and two kids. Got it on video and never have watched it. Need to. We rode a train that ran behind some Amish farms and then back to the museum. It was in a town north east of Harrisburg. Fun. When working BPS, usually there most of the time except night. Been known to slip out for a long lunch.

Cloudy to partly cloudy but warm. Got 50 feet of fence to do today. Also suppose to slip over to train lady's shop today. Have a good one and God bless all.

Good morning all!,

Been busy the last couple of days. The weather has been fantastic (79 yesterday) and I was able to get some outdoor projects completed. Finished a Pavestone patio extension that I started last fall and then the weather stalled it. Got some guys out to trim the oak trees that are too big for me to attack anymore, One in the back yard is so big it has killed most of the grass due to lack of sunlight and all the water it sucks out of the ground. So we "daylighted" the lower portion of the tree to see how that works.

FJ&G - I practice dual 12 ounce curls whenever I can (not as often as I used to).

Have a great day all!
Roy

That's great.

Tom, Roy,

I do 2 12 oz curls daily, as advised by U.S. Dietary Guidelines for 2005 for staying healthy. I prefer Bodington's but when money is tight, Miller Lite is the poor standin.

With all the backdrop painting I've been doing, my arms are actually sore now (just a bit).
