PETim, grew up driving stick shift [all Daddy would have] and tractors. I'm a farm boy [tobacco, corn, cotton, peanuts, soybeans, wheat, oats, hogs and cows]. Now they say we are not getting snow ans only rain adn soem freezing rain [which is not suppose to cause damage]. Same weatherguy that apoligized for bad forecast Wednesday. [;)] I think the snowhio folks need it bad. [:D]

PE TIM,
I'm gonna need that plow tomorrow will it fit on my Cub Cadet? Suppose to get 7-10 inches more farther east.
Started to do rewiring on my 3tracks. One down two to go, I got some 16 gauge wire and figured what the hay might as well do it right.
As those SOUTHERNERS would say GIT R DUNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good night!

Just got home from a very long night and working two shows (I know, I thought I was retired to). Ron White the comedian from the Blue Collar Tour (Jeff Foxworthy group) was the headliner and while he was funny several members of the over 5100 people in attendance proved to be a challenge. Nothing like a combination of booze, Friday night and no brain cells left to keep it interesting. 99% of the people I have to deal with are absolutely wonderful but that 1% can make it miserable, I hate it when people leave their manners at home.

The winds are just ripping out of the North, gusts of 40-50 mph but thankfully the snow is north of us, blizzard warning for northern IA tonight and tomorrow. The Idasnow is missing us thank you very much. I think we are going to hunker down tomorrow and work on the skirting for the train tables. I know that will make a huge difference and shift all of the focus to the layout. I don't think I'll be of much help.

Time for some more milk--Good Night Irene.

Good Morning America and other parts of Planet Earth

Another winter week in Roger's Corners. Big snow storm is expected, but we haven't seen anything yet this morning. Thought about going to Cincinnati today to the boat show, but the uncertainty of the weather is keeping me near Roger's Corners, Ohio.

PETIM, that snow plow is what they were using the other night down in Raliegh. Just ask the Chief.

SD TIM, the long underwear is being used extensively this year. I had mine on even at work to keep warm. Also, that isn't the Chief's dog. Here is a picture of Chief and his dog: http://www.funofun.com/dumbdog.htm (The picture is copyrighted so I couldn’t post it.)

Jon, Five Thousand is a big audience for a theater or was the show in an arena?

Roger, I have a Lionel Hudson and it has never smoked very good when compared to my K-Line Mikado. After taking the Polar Express engine apart and looking at the smoke system, it is a miracle that they smoke as well as they do. Too much heat is being lost to the mounting bracket or the outer shell. The resistor was inside something that looked like a piece of plastic hose.

The Chief indicates he grew up on a farm. Until he’s seen Iowa, he’s not seen a farm!!

Well, Roy at least you may get some sleep this weekend. The next time it hits 70 degrees in Ohio, will be probably late April if we are lucky. Most easterners assume that here in Ohio we still live in log cabins with dirt floors heated by a big fireplace. We now have floors! Windows will be the next big invention that hits these parts.

And Tom, we survived another week. I believe in the near future I will be in Lake County and I will give you a call. Next week, lovely Toledo, the home of the MUD HENS.

As I end this, the snow has started to fall. I just hope the power stays on through this storm. Have a good and safe weekend and RUN THOSE TRAINS.

Buckeye,

It's a beautiful theatre that seats 2735. We always catch the best Broadway Show Tours and other major acts. Just to give you a quick idea of single shows that we've had this year: Sting, Cheryl Crow, BB King, etc. and Bill Cosby comes next month--he's just the best. Our strength though is the major broadway series, we often times catch the newest shows before MPLS or KC, excellent front office. Although after last night I have worked my last comedy show except for Cosby, I will be "unavailable" for future tours, to many idiots for me.

Good Morning All

NE Ohio is white. It started snowing around 5:00am and has not stopped.
Temp at 15 and wind at 5mph. They say the wind will pickup latter with guess of 40 mph. So far, 5” of snow and no letting up.

WE are going to stay home and play with trains and maybe take some more pics.

Buckeye – It would be great if you could stop by for a visit. BTW – Cleveland is also having a boat show this weekend. Why not come up here for it [?]

Pick of the Day

All be safe

Dang, am I the only one out and about today? - I drove 40 miles in this snow in the accursed mini-van to teach this class. - we only meet five times; I'm not letting a little - well, a lot of snow - take away 20% of our time together. My wife thinks I'm nuts - but ...the campus is open, I signed a contract to do this.... All I'm saying is my students better show up... grrrr. Candidly, it's stopped snowing and the highway was pretty clear - enough to drive safely at 55. Due to get v. cold later so I'll let them all go early so I can get home in time to clear out the driveway before it gets dark..

I had to ban my older son and his friends from crawling around the layout. I have mixed feelings about it because I like them to be able to play with the cars and things on it - they've done so before - and I trust him to run everything with care. But unsupervised 10 year old boys seemingly can't help busting things. They inadvertently tore down the airplanes I hung, ripped out the signal lamps, lights. flashers and everything along the inner perimeter - just with their moving around... grrr. Now I know what I need to do sometime this weekend. Stay warm! More snow's on its way to my east coast friends.

Oh, now I know what that was, something just fell off of the proverbial "Brass Monkey". Must have happened all at the same time to hear it all the way down in Fla. [(-D][(-D]

Who can sleep late with all this noise. I stay away for a little while and Buckeye causes a lot of trouble. Buckeye, I went to your house. It did not have a dirt floor but the hamster running in the cage was pretty neat to get electricty to run your trains. I did notice the two hole outhouse in the back. [:-^] Now LAZ, cub cadet [notice I did not use capitals] is "cuss words" as we all know that nothing runs like a JOHN DEERE. [:D] Some wet stuff falling and it is 31 to 32 degrees. Weatherman says will now not amount to much [same guy that apologized to everyone for his bad forecast Wed]. We'll see. Had an outstanding breakfast. Fresh country sausage patties and French Toast with real maple syrup. UMM. Now to run trains today. God bless all.

Down here it's been a misty, damp day so far. The bottom is supposed to fall out on the temp. later and strong winds move in with rain. Maybe some of the white stuff up in the mountains. Hope the wind and rain hold off till late, the Mrs. had to go into Atlanta, about 1 1/2 hr drive for a work related seminar today, continuing education hours.

I guess I'll continue working on weathering the Lionel "Al's Hardware" this afternoon.

MILWAUKEE(AP) A blustery snowstorm out of Canada created a midwinter bonanza for snow sports enthusiasts across the upper Midwest while the upper Ohio Valley and Northeast braced for more than a foot of highway-clogging snow Saturday. [Snicker, he he he. Highway clogging??? No, not up nawth!! They know how to drive it that.]
The above is from the headlines on Road Runner homepage.

Roger, be glad you are in GA. I know we have seen SHOWHIO reach down there too. In fact, most of NC's big snowhio storms come from GA and SC moving north east. The stuff coming from Ohio and WV is usually "mess". But what do you expect from Ohio? [;)]

Hey Tom, did you sweep the snow off of the dirt floor? I know the snow comes in through the cracks in the logs. Only thinking about what Buckeye said. [:D] Still misting and not freezing to anything. That is good.

Yes, Chief, we had to do that to.

Well it’s still snowing here, temp has dropped to 15 deg and wind is picking up. Now the drifting will start.

We will go back out in a little and clean again.

Hello Folks,
Wheeewww, busy week this week at school, and didn't get a chance to post.

It's currently Ohioing here, with about an inch now, and still coming down. The ground and roads were already good and wet, so we have the potential for some pretty serious ice around here. We always seem to get more ice than snow, although I would much rather have it all the way around.

After our last ice storm back around Christmas, I pulled a 10 year old bag of salt out of the corner of the garage, and managed to get things cleared up pretty well at least on our sidewalk. Most of the originally anhydrous salt had rehydrated itself over the past 10 years or so, and had fused together into a big lump in the bottom of the bag. After cleaning off the sidewalk, that bad went in the trash.

I'd been meaning to pick up a new bag ever since then, especially when it was 70 degrees and all the stores around here were selling 50 lb. bags for $3 each. I went into Lowes today while we were out eating(not exactly a smart idea given the weather, but then it wasn't that bad when we left), and received quite a shock when the same bag that was $3 a week and a half ago was now $8. It was something that we needed, though, so I can't be too upset.

Hope that you all have a good, warm, and safe weekend!

Jim,

I think Davenport also missed the snow but nobody has escaped the wind the last 16 hours. When I came home last night the wind was absolutely unbelievable, the worst I have ever driven in, thank goodness there was no snow. We recorded gusts of 60 mph but it has slowly diminished today.

Do you ever come back for the Bix festival? What a great event that no one should miss.

Lots of wrecks [300 as compared to ,1000+ the other day] in the western and northern part of the county. Mainly on Interstates and main highwys with overpasses. Pretty calm here. Just staying in. Watch the steps out from under overhang at back door. Ends of bricks have ice on them. Around 31 degrees. May get some light snowhio before morning. Laz is being quite. Must be playing trains with that new DCS. [:D]

27" is the record? I always thought Mass. would have wopper snow storms.

Several years ago in southeastern Ohio, they had over 35" inches in one storm. The mountains of West Virginia received over 4 feet with this particular storm and it took place in March. There were people camping in the National Forest who were stranded and could not get out.

HI GUYS,
CHIEF you were right down playing with trains. Rewired all three TMCC and DCS tracks. The DCS and Lionels are all running good on all tracks the only thing I am having a problem with is on is the conventional track. When I power up the yrack with the TMCC it runs real good except for the horn. When applied it will slow down or stop depending on how fast it is going. If I change over to the DCS mode the horn will blow till it reaches 22volt on the handheld then stop. But the engine is going real fast. Called TOM and asked him and he suggested to slean the track so I did with my Trackman 2000 and also with a rag and goo gone. Still the same results. Any suggestions would be apprciated.
CHIEF
The JD, I agree are nicer colors but to GIT R DUNN I still like my CUB. BTW the SD90s were runnig real good in TMCC lashed up but still had the same problem and in DCS it was like stereo. MY dog started to howl.
BUCHEYE, that one with CHIEFS dog also had my dog howling. Thought it was afull moon here to night.

OH Tim, I have seen 5 feet of snow in one snow fall. It was on the weather channel about 8 years ago, Chardon, Ohio and about 10 miles around it recieved 5 feet of snow over a 3 day time. I was snowed in for 4 days without power. National Guard had to dig us out. I have many times woke up to 18" or 24" of partly cloudly in my drive. Boy am I glad that I moved from there.

Ya know, I had to think about that. One of the newscasters blurted it out and I was half paying attention. I remember like 30" on april 1st '97. So I'm not sure what they were talking about for records. Along with blizzard conditions, they're talking possible coastal flooding at high tide. Tides are 3.0+ with the moon, 3-6' storm surge, plus 20-30' seas just off the coast. I just heard about a 16' snowdrift somewhere. Boy I love this stuff. Anyway gonna try to get some sleep.
