TurboOne - We do love our steam, I guess it shows.

Laz - that great, wait until you get an MTH PS2 steam engine. If you are looking for one of the RTR rugedrails, the price list is $200.00 to $250.00. 10 to 15% off would be street price. Less than that is a good deal. Some of the Hudsons have now a list of $300.00 so street cost of $270.00

Cold outside, temp at 8 deg now.

Tim, Sorry but I do not know of any train stores in Vegas, but I am sure there are some. I haven't looked for any because we do not have any extra room in our car for the ride back to Michigan. If I went to a train store I would end up buying something. I am waiting until I get back to do any buying.

From the Weather Channel, it sounds like Doug is getting pounded tonight with near blizzard conditions. (Chief, that is when it is snowing and blowing at the same time.) The snow is heading right for Buckeye Land.

Daan, I always thought Holland and the northern European countries were ice boxes in the winter. I am learning something I didn't know.

Roy, minimal sleep??? Sounds more like no sleep to me. Glad you are back.

Larry, are you in the U.P. or Nevada? I have had to work on projects at the Soo in the winter and Escanaba in the spring, which is the same as winter.

JIm, what ever you did in Phonix has made you into a clay statue. (Inside joke.) [:D]

Chief, you mean they have home depots in the boonies of the South? Now you can buy some inside plumbing and a bath tub. Spankybird will send you the instruction on their use. [;)]

For some reason, San Diego sounds too good to be true. Do you suppose they don't own long underwear, gloves, boots and snow shovels. Naw, nothing could be that good.[:D]

Tomorrow I will be attending a meeting on High Speed Rail. Should be interesting to see how they are going to get me to Cleveland in less than 2 hours.

Now this "AIN'T" funny. 20 degrees out now. [just got in from long Town Board meeting] They say we might get flurries tomorrow night and some Thursday. The worse part is it may snowhio Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Now if yuz giz don't cut this out, I'll be riding up there to the nawth with my trusty Rebel saber [my Great GrandDad carried, sitting right here in the corner of the computer room] and "trim" you all down a foot or two. [:D] Train Lady is out of CAB1's but will ride over there tomorrow and use hers to see if I can turn up the volume of this Lionel. [Tom will love this [;)]] Have to turn my MTH engines sound down to 20 so I can hear the Lionel. Think it may have been turnd down by the CAB1 before I got it. We will see. Off to bed after some POPCORN. Eat a bag about every night. [:D] Good night.

Have sent the very cold weather to BIG BOY, hope he doesn't touch his tounge to a cold Steamer wheel, that would be painful.Lots of W--K this week and next. Oh well ,more train money. ...Tim

Good Morning All, I think,

NE Ohio is cold and white, temp at 16 and snowing. We have about 4” on the ground and 4 to 6 more coming. I love driving in this weather, just get all the people that don’t know how to drive off the streets.

Chief, you will first have to build a big fire outside and heat up some water for your new bathtub.

Larry – your pic on the signature line looks great.

PE Tim – I hope Big_Boy keeps the cold weather and doesn’t send it my way, if he does I just have to pass it down to Chief.

Pick of the Day

all be safe and keep warm

Good Morning,

It's a tropical heat wave in Iowa! I left here about 2:30 yesterday and drove to eastern IA to do a workshop and it was above 32. When I came out at 8:00 it was 38 but it has rained and everything was glaze ice. Drove on that for about 30 miles with BIG winds out of the south, talk about white knuckle driving. 30 miles north of me the roads were closed because of accidents everywhere, this is just to much fun. Give me snow anytime or better yet, the train room. Oh well, at least I have more money now to "invest" downstairs, life is good[8D]

We had the same big winds out of the south as Jon experienced here in Illinois - hard to walk against - complete with stinging snow. I felt sorry for the UP when I got off the train late last eve. They were running a front-loader up an down the tracks as a sort of weird snow-plow - the tracks fit neatly within the wheels.

But it's calmer today - snow mostly blown about and not much of it - a positively balmy 24 degrees. Funny how your body gets used to different temps. Took a few moments to watch one of Amtrak's morning Hiawatha's come in from the north along the long track by the Chicago River into Chicago Union Station. It had one of those fake F40s used as a baggage car, 4 amfleet cars and a pushing GE unit - this amidst a spate of scoots powered by Metra's F40s and newish MP36s. There's a few spots opposite the line across the river which I can watch from. We ran a tad late today and ran alongside another inbound train at 50 mph for quite a while - it's kind of neat to sit in the upper level of one of the new bi-levels and look out into a cab of the F40 pusher roaring away about a couple of feet away as you're both speeding along.

Good morning everyone!

Finally warming up here a bit today. Started in the low 40's and may get to 60 and maybe even 70 tomorrow - then rain and cold again for Saturday.

Went to a meeting last night for the 5th grade (my youngest and the Scout also) trip to Camp Grady Spruce at Possum Kingdom Lake. Who says the Chief has a lock on that southern named stuff. I have volunteered to be a cabin chaperone which means another fun filled 4 days with no sleep from Feb 8 - 11. This is a fun trip for the students as they get to have field experiences to couple with all the classroom "book larn'in". Hiking, horseback riding, climbing, rocks, nature trails, archery, etc., etc.

It's good to see the commuter rail is used by several of you. I use the Dallas light rail system (DART) whenever I have to go to meetings downtown. The day starts in a pleasant way when one is not all stressed from the drive and the trains drop you closer than where you can park (and then walk). Plus the $4 round trip beats $8 or more for parking downtown. Parking at the DART remote lots is free.

Chief - I lived in Charlotte for a bit - seasonal work as a mechanic/electrician at Carowinds. I was amazed at 105 in summer and OHIO in winter - with the added benefit of 98% humidity. It was like living in the evil twin of Houston, except hotter and colder at the two extremes each year. I really loved those streets where the street name makes a right turn at a 4 way intersection!

Have a great day all!
Roy

Roy, we are farther north and east of Charlotte. That is a tough place down there. Very seldom do we get to 100. Maybe high 90's. Do not get the snow Charlotte and taht part of SC does. Jon, you are right. If it is going to freeze, let it be snow and not ice [ask Buckeye]. 28 at 11 AM. Looked like Snowhio but none. Think the air is so dry that it evaporated. Have a good one and God bless all.

Getting our first snow in 2 years. Started up a few hours ago. The inauguration tomorrow ought to be a pretty scene. I understand that the Union Pacific RR is a big contributor. Too bad they are stingy when it comes to toy train trademarks.

Hi GUYS,
Sorry for the late sign in had to take a class insafe crisis management. What you say? It is a class to safely apprehend a student who is out of controll without hurting him. We learned all sorts of good techniques. But you like me when we went to school the only disapline was good old fashion 2X4 discipline. But that was a different era??
SPANKYBIRD thanks for the info on the MTH engines will be on the lookout on Feb 26 in Allentown at the train meet.
JIMBO welcome back from sunny Arizona. Looks like you had a great time. Soory you didn't do better but at least no big crashes?
CHIEF nice PENMANSHIP in the snow? Might leave a stain on the pavement? How you gonna cut the grass with the JD with all that white stuff there? It will rust them blades.
TURBOTIM very funny guy it was only 19 with 2inches here.
Have a good one

Took wife from 1:30 to 5:50 to get 3 miles in the city of Raleigh to friend's hosue. She is staying there. Kids around the city and county are stranded at school. Buses will not go [slick]. They are feeding thema dn letting them stay the night. The snow was wet. Beth [who is staying with me tonight [;)]] has big Envoy. She made it here as could not get to Raleigh. Her track melted and refroze to nothing but ice. This is what happened on the highways. The hills are so slick nothing can get up them. Come down and you slide off the highway. Interstates are a parking lot.

Chiefie - Seriously, we all hope all will be safe in Snowsville, NC and can't wait for you to be back pokin' fun at Snowhio, ChicagSnow, MinneSnowta, IdaSnow, etc. with your warm, southern weather.
