Was 33 at 1:30 AM [had to let dog out]. Now it is 19 with gusts up to 40 mph. Jon's fault. I think he had a little help from PE Tim too. [:(] LAZ, try adding a lockon where it slows down. I had a problem on my temp layout with conventionals slowing way down. Was between two switches. Mentioned it on the forum and someone said the outside rail was not making good contact due to the way the switches are made. Added lockons at those places and all run great now. I had been getting a DCS signal of 10 all around so I was confused. Seems DCS will run better than conventional. Just a suggestion. I find that running conventional [like the newer ones] with DCS in variable is best. My older conventionals run best in fixed and move the transformer handles and whistles blow better with transformer rectifiers.

Well, off to get ready for Sunday School as wife is giving me the "mean eye". [;)] God bless all.

Some big snow only about 2 and a half inches but it is windy about 35-40mph.
Hope all a safe and happy train day.

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio is cold and white, temp at 10 with 20 mph winds and drifting snow. Oh how I love winter. Over all we got about 12” and who know how much has blown away. Other area not far from us receive up to 24”. I guess I am lucky.

Laz – I have to do some research on your problem, maybe will have to ask RAK for some help with the TMCC part.

All be safe

Good Morning,

Just got home from church and that pork roast in the crock pot sure smells good. We are now measuring the train tables and hope to start on the skirting asap. Just when I think we are done down there something else comes up We are planning on using black cloth material, if any of you have done this with gathering at the top would it be possible to post a pic? I can't even imagine how much material this is going to take, UFF DA!

Seems odd to have it so quiet outside after the last 48 hours of crazy wind. Tomorrow wil be a real celebration, it's going to hit 42[8D]

Just finished a repair to my K-line E8 AA set, the wire to one of the pick-ups broke at the crimp on eyelet. Of course it was the front truck that required a lot of internals removal to get at. If I remember correctly this is the second on this set, they probably used too stif a wire.

Cold morning down here in GA, 11:45 and only 27F but bright and sunny with gusting winds.

Good morning all,

Hate to say it, but clear and sunny here. The temp yesterday dropped from a record tying 79 late Fri to high 20's last night.

BTW - forgot to note:

Jim Duda - congratulations on your 500th post! You probably missed that fact while you were mowing the grass!

Stay warm you guys!

Home from Sunday School. Wind hawling. Home made chilli waiting [turkey as not suppsoe to eat toomuch beef]. Did some cleaning of my side of the dresser as wife shook her finger at me. Was messy. Now sit and watch the wind blow hard. Wind chill is in single digits. Think I'll work on cleaning out that train room. Later

OH Tim, I have seen 5 feet of snow in one snow fall. It was on the weather channel about 8 years ago, Chardon, Ohio and about 10 miles around it recieved 5 feet of snow over a 3 day time. I was snowed in for 4 days without power. National Guard had to dig us out. I have many times woke up to 18" or 24" of partly cloudly in my drive. Boy am I glad that I moved from there.

PE Tim, That kind of snow doesn't happen to often. I also remember the storms of 77 and 78 out there. Again being snowed in for 4 or 5 days.

One morning it snow so hard that it was even with the hood of my car. I think it was 40" came down that night.

Like I said, I sure am glad I moved.

BTW - temp at 14 deg with Sun Shine

hello all,

Petim, will be sending suntan lotion, beach blankets, and innertubes. Enjoy the heatwave.

To all the rest of you be careful out there. They keep showing 1 big blanket of weather back there. It is a nice 75 currently, no clouds, and yes the weed are growing, so lots of pulling and mowing. Front is great, pulled half of my backyards weeds so far, half to go.

Hopefully doing some benchwork today, depends on weeds.

27 degrees at 5:45. Wind has ceased. Man, the birds are eating up some sunflower seeds and thistle. Big almost full moon and "clear as a bell". If it was not so cold, I'd take telescope out and look at the man in moon. [;)] Big thing accomplished. HO layout on 4X8 in the train room is gone. [:D] All the trrack is up, all the biuldings and trains are wrapped in white tissue paper and then, bubble wrapped. Now Frankie has to come and help carry the 3/4" 4'X8' sheet down the stairs and outside. On the way to getting that room cleaned out to start building the layout. [:D]

Hi all, While I was reading this forum my wife came in and saw "Trains.com" on the screen. She then asked "What are you going to do, start collecting trains?". I said yes. She then started to give me a little bit of a hard time about it. She then laughed and said she was just teasing. Well she took that alright now I wonder how well she will take to the smoke. hehe.

No snow here. Be careful with your driving back on the east side of the country.

Time to go do some more browsing for trains. [:)]

Thats right Buckeye, I have a young mare I will need some young man thats willing to be tied on her for a few hours. (wink) After that I can ride her. Spring seems like a long way off right now.
Rode up to Schweitzer Ski Resort this afternoon. They have all the lifts closed, snow is melting and avalanche possibilities. We always get a couple killed in avalanches this time of year, usually snowmobilers.
Stopped back by the new HOME DEPOT.. YIPPEE.. Did'nt buy anything. They usually get at least 100,000.00 of my company money every year.
Glad I sold my ski resort stock at the same time I sold Enron ..HA HA........Tim

Good Morning,

Sounds like a good week of weather, the next two days are going to be in the mid 40's and trust me, that's a heat wave compared to what we've had to endure the last two weeks.

Chief I know what you mean about hit & miss exercising, I try to work out 4-5 times a week and I always feel better after a work out. I actually was better at working out when I was still working, that doesn't make any sense. When I got sick this last November it really stopped me, I just resumed last week and my legs felt like rubber. So now I'm going to sign off and go check out the spandex babes, I really enjoy it when they open up the outside pool[:D]

well, my daughter spent her college winter vacation partying and goofing off.

In short, she didn't finish my railroad backdrop, so guess what your's truly was doing yesterday? Yep, painting.

It is my fate not to have anyone in the family who is much interested in trains--real or model. Even BB the beagle doesn't seem to take a hankering to them unless I can shape a train into something that looks like a furry rabbit.

I'm retitling my layout "Tequilla Sunrise", partly because the backdrop consists of a humongous sunrise and partly because I consumed a lot of tequilla making it (getting my 2 drinks in a day for health, per 2005 U.S. Dietary Guideliness from Health & Human Services Dept).

I'll try to get some pictures of it this week or next.

BB the beagle had fun romping in the snow. Too bad there aren't any snowshoe hares in this part of the country. I'm sure she'd want to get acquainted with some.

Morning all, I wasn't able to get online this weekend. I survived our Saturday snow - and earned my students' affection by letting them out early - it's funny how different the weather can be in this area - lake-effect snow pouring down on campus - sunny and snow melting back home 45 miles away - it did take me 2+ hours to shovel the driveway the old fashioned way - have to get that snow blower fixed...

Metra parks most of its trains overnight in our town in the evening to be ready for the inbound morning rush - what spectacular collections of ice and snow adorned the consists today. Surprisingly lots of snow still about in the Loop this morning...

I was able to repair most of the layout damage in fits and starts last night - rather than watch some weird Nicole Kidman movie 'The Human Stain' - what a title - had lots of cussing and bizarre flashbacks in it - with my wife and daughter. I still have to fiddle with my new 153C connector... Your Sun. night photos are truly inspirational. Have a great day.

Morning all,

glad to see all of you snowbirds survived. The news keeps showing lots of that white stuff all over. BBBBrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I live 17 miles from the beach, so our fog isn't as heavy as the beach. We will top up today in the upper 60s bottom at night lower 40s. Cold for us, but won't trade with you folks.

PE tim glad you had fun at HD. Out here we got 1 about every 6 miles. And Lowes is starting to build more now also.

Gotta get the kids up. Take care all

Stay warm

Good morning...well at least it is morning here...
Just back from grocery shopping this morning. We like to go early to avoid the big crowds if possible. We try to walk for an hour every day, but we are lucky to manage five days a week. I guess that isn't too bad. When I was spending the winters in Michigan I did not have to worry about exercise in the winter as I got plenty of it shoveling the snow. Not much snow here so now I walk instead.

Back into the walking groove. 38 and windy [light] but needed hood. Did 2 miles today. [:D] I can walk better when it is cold than the other week when it was 70's to 80. Now if I can resist from eating until dinner time [for us Southerners, supper time [;)]].
