Jack,
Susieq and I both BMW 325s. She has a 325I and I have the 325XI (I need my car in the winter, she has a Solara she drives in the winter). I am supposed to loose @ 5% gas mileage due to the AWD, but my average MPG is higher than hers (and I use 87 octane, not the premium they recommend). Whistling [:-^] She claims it is because I drive more highway miles than her... uh huh! Wink [;)] That's why when she was driving the other day she almost did a burn out...

Yes, except for the traction control.  To my wife, that little black rubber thingy coming out of the firewall is not an accelerator, it's an on/off switch.....rather, an all-on/all-off switch.  And she asks "why do they put those 12.7 inch cross-drilled Brembo rotors on the car if not to haul the car down from unnecessary speed" ......but at every light, a dozen times in a row or when she arrives at the mall, whichever comes first, and without brake fade?  Or install anti-lock brake systems and P245 rubber if not to prove who can stop the fastest?  "Yes, dear, but the trip to the mall is not a time trial."

I haven't told her about the octane I've been putting in the cars or she'd have a fit.  You're braver than I am.

Morning yall.

Seems the topic of gas is on. Well, being my daddy (We dont say Dad in the South, or Mom!) owns a small gas company, I can let you a little in on how it works here. ( He has about 20 stations with our brand name "El Cheapo" [You yankees, I'm sure you've seen at least on of them on your trips to your Northern Loyalist Florida] ) and supplies 50+ more Shell Stations in the eastern part of Georgia. The gas comes from the terminals in Savannah. (We are pretty much selling bottom of the line stuff Laugh [(-D] ). When it comes to changing a particular gas station price, we either pass one of our competitors, and my daddy calls up the office, and tells them whatever the station by that one needs to go up or down to. Or, somebody calls him to get to okay to go up or down. (That doesnt happen at every price change, but does once in a while. Especially the ones in our own town.)

Back when I was little and traveled down to the office all the time, I used to like looking at the "Prices" (Which I at that time really didnt understand) come in on the faxer. Its bassically about 3-4 pages of different prices on current gas in the local terminals. (It changes about every 15-30 minutes Shock [:O] )

Well, busy day at the "office".  Handled another citizen complaint about waterline construction by the City of Raleigh.  Reclinerized real early this PM.  Went to pond.  Caught big crappie from bank.  When I drove in, saw several of the "neighbors" from the top of the hill.  One guy ran.  Stopped at the other end where road is next to pond bank.  Oldest of the brothers was there fishing.  Asked him who ran.  He said, "Cousin".  I laughed and said, "Why, if I want to catch him I know where he ran."  "Told him not to run."  Talked a while.  I asked who had the warrent that was out on one of you.  "Me" [I already knew].  "What for?"  "Speeding to alue arrest."  We talk for a while.  "You know a felon can not have a firearm?"  "Can he hunt?" [he has rabbit beagles] "No, can't be around one."  "Man, wish I could get rid of that felony charge."  So we talk on for a while.  Both catch a big crappie each.  "You still working?"  "Yes sir, everyday."  "You might loose your license."  "Sure don't want to do that."  "My lawyer is suppose to be handling this but I think he is messing around on me."  "Who did you run from?"  "Rolesville PD."  I make phone call on cell to Lt.  "OK, charges will be pled down to misdemeanor."  "If you screw up again, the book will be thrown at you."  "Thank you sir."  "Means I can't do anything wrong again?"  "Exactly."  Well, I hope this works.  His younger brother who I tried to help is now in prison.   This one works and does pretty good.  His younger brother and sisters would not work and stole along with selling drugs.  All the kids are being raise by Grandparents who don't care.  Sad

Well, looks like the Rug got cleaned tonight. Whistling [:-^]

Seems Shake and Bake is getting better.  To late to call even though he is 3 hours later.

Dougnotagrump, that will be a great visit.  I enjoyed my visit there.  Great layout and group of guys there.

Grayson, hold the line for me when I am not able to get here and am busy with Town stuff. Wink [;)]

Colin, hope you are better.

John, hope surgery goes well.  Keep us posted.

Fife, don't bark up the wrong tree. Sign - Oops [#oops]

Brent, keep up the layout work.  You don't want to have a Soundstop Desert Prairie like me. Laugh [(-D]

Dennis, thanks. Bow [bow]

I do hope all had a great day.  I'm off to bed [where I should have been all along].  Good night all.

Greetings all !!!

Doug - Thanks for the lead on the book, ordered it today!  Sounds good looking forward to receiving it!

Very busy day at the office, received 18 cases of cartridges, two new types, we were able to ship a lot of back orders, and get caught up.  Then went to the train club this evening.  Not very many people there tonight.  I think the gas crises is showing its impact.  Best price I can find here is $3.39, told we will see $4.00 before Memorial Day!

Still have this lingering cough, and endurance level is low.  I need to get beyond this junk, just don't have time for it!

Good morning Friends,

Just checking in this AM before I head off to work.  Might not be online much in the next few days as I will be at a convention. I will try to keep up on reading the Pot becuase if you get too far behind it takes too long to catch up.

Take care,

Mitch

Good Morning:

It looks like it will be a nice spring day here in Chicagoland.  It supposed to be in the 40's and partly sunny.

RRCharlie:  Thank you for sharing you experience with the GP7.  I ordered one (along with Legacy) from my LHS two weeks ago and I am still waiting for it.  The wait is driving me crazy! Wink [;)]

Mitch:  Sorry to hear about the little pooch.  I hope things work out.  From your post, it looks like you are well on your way to having the new school staffed. Congratulations.  I bet you can't wait for school to actually start, you job will get easier.  Smile [:)]

RT:  I am glad to hear that things are still moving forward with the VA.  Boy, it is a looooong process, isn't it?

Cheapclassics: Congratulations on 1,000 posts.  Thank you for pointing out the IRL race this weekend.  I am an open wheel fan.  I will check out how Penske, Ganassi, Rahal, et al do this weekend.

Brent:  Thanks for sharing you most recent pictures.  The layout looks great.  I wish I would have been able to see it in person.  I do appreciate the invitation.

Don:  I hope you feel better.  Take it slow.  You have to upgrade to DCS 4.0.  You will love it!  While I anxiously await delivery of my Legacy system, I agree, it does come up short in a lot of ways compared to DCS.  One of the overlooked features of DCS is the two way communication.  I really like that I know how many hours and scale miles each of my engines has run (including the number of miles in the current operating session).  I am disappointed the new Lionel system does not have those features.  On the other hand, I wish the MTH engines would have a sound system as good as RailSounds.

Chief & Jack:  Thanks for the kind words.  I am actually looking forward to the procedure so that things can get back to normal.

Brent & Sir James:  I hear you regarding gas prices.  A couple of years ago, I opted to give my company car back in exchange for a monthly allowance.  Gas prices have gone up, the allowance has stayed the same...These prices are still lower (on an inflation adjusted basis) than what was being paid in the early '70s.  As Brent has previously pointed out, the oil industry has been subsidized by the government for many years.  At least with these higher prices, it will speed the development of alternative fuels.  Small consolation, but I do try to look at the bright side.  Cool [8D]

Regards,

John

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a rainy 42 degrees. Going up to 52 today, with rain all day.

Today is a relaxing day. Can't go outside and play. So, I will stay inside and play with my trains. I have a few things to do around the house and then to the train room. Need to work on scenery. Not much else new here.

Dining car has rolled in and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Around here gas has been in the $3.24 range, though I've been getting mine at Sam's Club and paid $3.15 yesterday.  What gets me is I can go one county over and gas is $.05 +/- less.  Talk about something that should be investigated, when this has been mentioned in the media the comment is that more affluent counties are expected to pay more.

On another front, reading the posts this morning I realized that of the "old" timers on the forum I haven't seen Dr. John recently.  Has anyone heard from him?

Spring is taking it's dear time showing up here, barely into the 50's so far. In fact, there was snow in north west IA last night but nothing here except wind.

Gas here is $2.97 and has been steady for over a week.

Made a very quick trip into town late afternoon yesterday, we now own a Wii game :) I may just send it on to oldest son's family as they just can't find one.

Well it has been an interesting week for me. I reconnected with a long lost friend from a HS I left in 10th grade. She's helping me get in touch with some other mutual friends as well, pretty exciting as I haven't heard from any of them in 21 years! The internet is a very strange place.

Jack,
Susieq's BMW doesn't require premium. She is such a penny pincher she specifically looks for vehicles that do not require premium fuel, she doesn't require a fuel efficient vehicle (like your wife she like acceleration... gets upset when she has to use the brakes). Oh and she names her cars too... her BMW is silver... car's name The Silver Bullet... you can all stop laughing now (I did the same thing and had to explain what this was) Whistling [:-^]

Don,
You need some hot tea sweetened with Jack Daniels. The tanins in the tea will help dry you out and the Jack helps you sleep. I have also used Rum, and Crown Royal for this endeavor as well.

Good morning all,

It is a rainy day in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s.  I did weights last night and went over to inspect the Lionel Classics that I had won on eBay that I had shipped to my dad's.  It looks as if it had never been on the track.  My wife does not know it, but she now has a Christmas present for me :-)   No TV again, but may watch "Antiques Roadshow" tonight.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Chief, sounds like you had a busy day.  Laz and Tmcc man, good to hear from you guys again.  Dbaker, sounds like you are getting better.  Hope the trend continues.  Lots of talk about gas prices is occurring here.  I have noticed traffic is a tad thinner on the early morning commute.  Maybe more people will start car-pooling.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning, quick stop in here before we head out to the amusement park. Kids are looking forward to water park part of it.

Mitch, I didn't see what was wrong with your dog, but having suffered the loss of two dogs in less than a year, I know it hurts to see them sick or worse.  Hope yours is on the mend.

Roger, Dr. John, like many of us was sickened by the tone here caused by an offending participant.  He left.  We do correspond, though he is often very busy with church duties.  If the forum returns to it's cordial roots that we used to enjoy, you may see him back.  I hope so.

Chief, you are a kind person at heart.  It would be so much better for that young man to turn his life around.  An interesting story told to me by one of our surgical assistants:  He teaches Karate.  One day, he was about to be mugged by a gang of teenagers.  He was not about to back down, and when he did this, one of the teenagers asked if he was "Mr. Kurt", he said yes.  The kid had been in his karate class  a long time ago.  Anyway, the mugging was called off and Mr. Kurt was able to get a few of those kids into rehab and turned their lives around.  They stay in touch and are productive members of society.

May you all be blessed today.  And Laz: "Happy Friday Eve" to you too sir!  I hope more of us are able to return to a enjoyable place here.

God Bless,

Dennis

Thought I would chime in today...

We have been working on restoring our lawn for a couple years (previous owners neglected it).  We have about three types of moss entering in - even in full sun areas.  Have been getting soil tests, working on raising pH levels, etc.  Last winters overseeding did not take so time to try the Scotts grass patch for a quick fix heading into the spring.

At this rate I am about ready to let it go to moss (which I like).  Grass just doesn't want to grow and moss does so why fight it.  Well call it our bit to help save the environment by become early adopters of native species eco-ground cover (and getting some extra free time by not having to mow or weed).

Gas here is about $3.17-$3.20 for regular.  In 2000 we sold our turbo AWD sedan for a hybrid and have never looked back.  Other car is a Suburban K1500 not used much but when you need one you need one.

Enjoy,

Chris

Welcome back to those that have strayed,we missed you. You just cannot have an open forum without some misunderstandings now and then. That being said we don't know what goes on off forum which could add to the problem.

Kurt

Chris,

Kurt's right on the money with the moss...... and you are on the right track.  It's easy and inexpensive.  You can get rid of the moss rather inexpensively.  I prefer to fertilize and weed-kill my way out of thin grass issues because I have dogs, and segregating them from a newly seeded area is a pain.

If you have (power) raked out the moss and disposed of most of it, aerated, and then got the soil ph (soil sample tested) up to 7 (if I recall correctly), the only thing left is to make sure the areas are left to dry out between waterings.  Do the process in that order.

I drop the pelletized lime to move the soil ph up, and the bag tells you how much lime is required per a given area to move the ph up 1 point.  Don't quote me on this, but the amount is 40 pounds of lime per 1000 square feet.  Other chemicals may not be necessary.

Moving the ph up to the proper level also maximizes the effectiveness of the fertilizer products you may use.  I fertilize 4 times a year, following the bag's application instructions for timing and amount to the letter

Scotts has a very good free website that walks you through every imaginable issue, and I'm certain moss is covered.  It will work.    http://www.scotts.com   Also, if you do a websearch, there are Universities web sites that have a section that specialize in lawn care issues.

Morning all.  Another lazy day as the rain falls outside.  Still waiting on my NYC GP7s.  Ordered 'em from a semi local joint that said they were "in stock" at the distrbutor.  That was 2 weeks ago.  Hopefully tomorrow.  I'm a little disappointed that I haven'y got 'em yet.  I leave on Saturday for 2 weeks so I was hoping to run 'em through their paces.

Other than that we got baseball on the docket on Monday and then move up to L.A. for American Idol, then to Oakland for NBA.  It's a tour of California.  Got some days in between to drive so that's the way were going to do it.

Anyone going to York, we are arranging a Legacy Users get together on Friday morning at 8a-10am.  Place TBD yet.  Rich Moser from Lionel will be attending.  The other forum has a thread to respond to and a contact for questions to be submitted to Lionel that Rich can provide info on.  We are looking for a head count so if you would like to attend please let that thread know.

This is NOT a sponsored event by anyone.  Just a bunch of Legacy users getting together to share experiences, ask questions, and have some train talk.  More details to follow.  If Bob would like this removed please let me know.  I don't like to stear folks to other forums but I didn't want another thread going in 2 places.

How's everyone, Haven't posted in awhile been busy at work. Hope everyone is fine. Seen all the posts about gas. This morning they had on a local news show that so called "experts" are saying gas might go up to around 4 bucks a gallon. Soon I'll be working to put gas in my truck to just to go to work. Lucky summer is coming. I'll be riding the Harley to work it getts a little better gas mileage. If you think about it, it's like the Mad Max movies soon we will be fighting and stealing over gas.

John, my orthopedic surgeon once told me he could fix it IF, post op, I would do exactly as I was told, no more, no less.  He added that a key factor in the degree of success for the outcome would be my motivation and my dedication to simply following his instructions.  You'll be back in action before you know it.  Suggest it's time for you to get a tuneup on the lawnmower so wife doesn't struggle too much.

Don, I don't know what's going around in my neck of the woods, but it doesn't go away very quickly, knocks the snot out of you.  Besides the initial meds and rest, Brent's suggestion was good.  I mixed the JD, rum, and Crown Royal with my tea this morning and am feeling pretty good.  Take care.

Sad.........

Doesn't matter.  What matters is you did something.  Most people would have done nothing.  Maybe the light bulb will go on with this one, nothing ventured nothing gained.  This wasn't advice you gave on trains.  Could be life altering.  It was worth the shot.  Good move.

ps......you should have had some community service clause put in there, tilling the rocks and beer cans in your garden.
