Not much new in the way of model trains, going to a train show in Deerfeild Beach next saturday. Going to sell some of my excess trains and stuff.

Went to scrap metal place today and got around $350.00 for some scrap aluminum panels sitting around in the outside storage, thought that I would only get around $150.00 if that. Man I may take some more metal scrap next week and get some more cash like that!!

Been trying to fix up a Lionel 2026 to sell next saturday, can get it all working except to solder a wire into place as my soldering skills are not that good or my soldering gun is bad or have terrible solder!

Wife wants to go to Orlando in April the monday after the train show(saturday), I will have a day to rest or pack for the trip.

Good afternoon all. Got a text from the daughter. She's landed safely at O'Hare. Can't wait to throttle her - uh see her again. Wink [;)]

Drove into Chicago to see my brother and his bride. They announced they're going to have another baby - they have an 18 mo. old. My bride spookily knew it already. Took 3/4 of a tank of gas to get there and back with my infamous van. What the heck? That's too much.  May have to call 'em again Monday.

Philly, I have a few buddies who are sheetmetal workers. They tell me there stuff is stolen in minutes if they don't have security on the job site, given the scrap prices these days.

Haven't run trains in days it seems. Don inspired me to get the Koester operations book again out of the library. Interesting stuff. Banilla tonight, gents?

Happiest of Anniversaries to Sir James and his bride!!  Bow [bow]Wow!! [wow]

Hey cnw1995,

Down here people steel your catalytic convertor from your car and take it to scrap metal place for the money!!  How to tell if your convertor is missing; simple just listen for the DEEP roar of the exhaust!

Other news; the DCS downloadSoapBox [soapbox]Banged Head [banghead] won't work on my computer to my DCS unit! There must be a better way to get an update!!!

Lee, is it a problem with your windows version or something?  I don't know how that works...

Blush [:I] Sorry, Sir James - Almost Belated Happy Anniversary!  I remembered, I swear Whistling [:-^]  Now you know why my wife always gives me all these hints, like the night before our anniversary or something?!  Hope you had a great dinner!  Be sure to keep some Tums around if you do get Sliders!  Hot Sliders with a Cold Beer is best!

Kurt - got the new link and it works great, I guess the other one lost something - computer glitches.

Doug, I'm up for Banilla - But I think I should drive if your van is using gas that fast!  How many miles was that?  Glad your family is back together (soon?) and congrats to your brother!

Laz - good luck with the trout!  Just don't end up Swimming wit da fishes!  Burgers and hot dogs on the fire Dinner [dinner]  Congrats on that locomotive, too.  Marty, congrats on yours as well, sound cool!

JohnandJulie - Gotta get the O-R's, the best!  Also a turtle sundae for desert!

Don - operating sounds interesting, will you do the invoices and orders or use walkie talkies, or?

Dennis, are the kids learning Mandarin, Cantonese, ???  I have a lot of dvds from Hong Kong and China, but I don't know if your lovely wife would appreciate the low brow humor or kung fu fighting in most of them Laugh [(-D]  I know Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer is pretty tame and has Chinese language tracks even on the Disney version of the dvd, fyi...

Jim Sturgeon Phish - you are like the energizer bunny, man!  Are you building a dry stone wall or using mortar/cement?

Baberuth73 - your wife made a new account, sounds like....  Welcome (back)!

Picked up some green paint for the doors and window frames on my station - will paint tonight, I think, and pre-fit.  Bought some emory boards to make things fit good.  TTYL

Evenin' fellas.

Well I've been found out. Today while Susieq and I were running errands she asked about her kitchen light. Sigh [sigh] I told her I wasn't 100% certain my plans would work (and I'm not because thinking back on how walls are constructed there could be a jack stud above the window that could interfere with the placement of the light box). Told her I would get to it soon, but I don't want to open the wall and there be something more to the project. Also I need to 'work up the nerve to get started.' She laughed and told me that I have to write a book of bogus excuses... Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]

Watching the basketball game, but may head back into the trainroom to do some more work.

Brutus, thanks for the heads up on the movies.  They are learning Mandarin.  Learning spoken language as well as written characters and sign language.  Hey, if they can do it at their age, more power to them.  I try to learn and certainly do a good bit as we work with them on homework, but Man is it tough for me.

Philly, I read in one of the OGRs of recent that mentioned about how a particular computer/ Windows combination won't do MTH downloads.  MTH is aware of this, but they have not made mention of it to the public...just something the consumer finds out after having purchased one of their engines.

Well, it was a good, productive day.  We got an extra entertainment center with TV, stereo, surround sound system, etc. all picked up by some folks we gave it to.  Wife had wanted it gone some time ago, but we had  to coordinate things as they needed a big van for the items as it was all big stuff.  Got the Doll house completely wired.  Now to get some lamps, chandelier, and some outlets ready to go.

Y'all have a good night and enjoy services tomorrow.  I will check in when we get home.

God Bless,

Dennis

Eveining all

It has been beautiful today.  I got the lights mounted and adjusted.  Both neighbors thanked me for mounting the lights.  I'm glad they are in so I can see to take the garbage out!

Jim-It is a dry stack wall made of fossile stone.  I came accross several tons of the stone years ago and have been using it as I get around to various projects.  It is really neat to see the fossilized shell, trilopeds, coral, and other creatures.  It is beautiful stone.  I'm going to lay some more pieces of old slate sidewalk I've got left so I can walk to the garbage cans and stay out of the mud.

Helped out with evening Mass this evening and have early and late morning Mass tomorrow.  It is nice to have a weekend off from work.

Xavier just lost, too bad.  Just playing at this level is great.

Going to go spend some time with my bride

May God bless

Bedtime!!!!  Warched a mystery movie on Halmark that lasted for hours.  Did watch most of the UNC ladies' game at Miss Edna's.  Think they won.  Played horrible first half.  Did see refs miss a shot clock call on them second half.  Replay showed that it did hit the rim.  Made up for it later on other team.   Not much into games anymore.   Got SIL whose husband would die if he could not see sports 24/7.

Sir J, congrats to you and condolances to wife. Laugh [(-D]

Converted a K-Line NS switcher to TMCC [kit removed from an upgraded MPC GP9].  Did not run too smooth unitl I added some lead.  Runs better and even good with Legacy controler.  Now to put the ERR Sound Commander with Cruise in the GP9 and another one I have.

Off to bed.  God bless.

GOOD EVENING

Thanks to all our well wishers. Normally I would not have mentioned it, But time just seems to become harder to keep up with, and it just slips away. So It was important to us. She wouldn't go for the slidders though, had to get her a steak, so I brought one home and told her to cook it. No not really,we all know can't get away with that.LOL. A guy MUCH older than me once said," I still look at the girls but I have forgotten why". I'll let you know when I get that old if I can remember I said I would tell you. Have a great sunday.

Evening all!

Beautiful sunny day here today, yet the temps keep the snow from melting significantly.  There's still a good foot of it on the lawn and tons more where I've plowed the drive.

Last nights ramblings left me with serious Legacy Lag.  A phone call this morning to inquire about the soundless SD40 ( looks like it needs a new board ) only made the withdrawl symptoms worse.  So I hopped in the Neon and headed to my other LHS.  Unfortunately they had nothing new in Legacy equipped engines to relieve my cravings.

Instead, I had to settle for a pair of lowly Atlas F3's in basic black NYC cigar band livery.  These things are so boringly dull they come packaged with a bottle of perks.   With no end to the teadeous details, you'd swear they go blind putting these things together.   Their growling horns sound like a bad 3 pack a day habit.  One seemed to handle a 10 car passenger train without much strain so I guess I'll go through all the trouble of lashing the 2 together just to have a working rear coupler.  Now what do I do with an extra engineer and fireman?  With all this attention to detail, running quality and prototypical sounds I'd say the hobby has nowhere to go from here but down hill.   I saw Laz's Bear on those commercials too.   Looks like he's lost weight lately ( the Bear, not Laz ).  I think the Bear and Valerie Bertinelli are getting kickbacks from the same place. Wink [;)]

Larry the Cable Guy has lost a bunch of weight and I think his last DVD featured a bear, too?  A conspiracy?

Good night, Sir James!  Went back over some old posts and saw your hint!  D'Oh!  Hey - you need to hit me with a bigger board than that!  Wife learned that the hard way!

Good evening all,

It was a mixed bag of weather in SE Indiana with some sun, some clouds, and lots of wind and temps in the 40s.  Did weights at the YMCA and cleaned the bathrooms before the grandson got here.  He is busy.  We took him to a school playground and let him run around there.  He is very easygoing and does not fuss much at all.  His folks will be here tomorrow to pick him up.  I went over to my dad's to watch the IRL race.  Dixon wound up winning when Kanaan got taken out in a late race accident.  Danica was never a factor and Manning was totally lost for AJ's team.  At one point, he even was behind Milka!?!?!  The Vision team had to start from the back due to a rules violation, but both finished in the top ten.  It was a good day.  Welcome to the pot, Cooltech and Baberuth!  You will find this to be a really friendly place.  I had bran muffins on the dining car from "Points East" this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Just got done putting my NYC GP-7 with LEGACY through some interesting moves. Train got hung up on the tipple when the hold down tabs did not release, and two other minor mishaps. Did a crude speed test: counting 1001, 1002, the GP-7 did 35 inches in 45 seconds!!! That's 0.044191919 actual miles per hour or 2 and 4/33 scale miles per hour with a train of 10 or so cars.

Have a good rest of the weekend.

Jim - Its going to be a while before we get that far !!!

With the problem that resulted SINCE, I hooked up the Legacy/TMCC/DCS cabling I was really bugged.  So managed to get down to the club, and found the problem.  We have 4 TIU's on the layout, nos. 2, 3, 4, 5.  The problem was that 3 could not be found when setting up through the controller.  As it turned out, #3, was coming up as # 2,  so we had 2 #2's, and no # 3. With 2 2's that was the problem.  (Kinda like 2 2, choo, choo).  So deleted and readed the #2, #3 TIU's and everything worked great !!!! Problem resolved.

Now as far as operating, we have 2 main tracks, if someone wants to run conventional then everyone running TMCC or DCS moves to one main.  (Do have a club rule if more than 3 persons running, then no conventional, rule is not enforced).  So today there were 5 trains running on the same track, and I saw atleast 4 or 5 pileups.  (My trains were safely at home.)

Anyway, I'm setting the first Operating session up as TMCC/DCS only!  Going to spend time to ensure everyone understands what scale speed means, and have a designated area on the tracks so people can learn what to adjust their speed to.  Then will see if we can get 3 or 4 guys to run to a modified schedule and train priority list.    (Based upon specific route distance and elapsed time.)  So will see, may be one big wreck.

Had B-Day celebaration for FIL at BBQ Restaurant.  I had a great Tri-Tip sandwich, BUT got some "Creamy Cheesey GRITS", little did I know that it was being served in a styrofoam bowl.  I ate 1/2 of the bottom of the bowl before Kay told me I had styrofoam in the grits.  Couldn't taste any difference !!

Late evening all! - except you Don B!

Busy day today starting with soccer game at 8:30 am. Our team got the hoo-hah beat otta them today. They are starting to get pretty discouraged. Oh Well???

Had tree trimming crew out cuz I do not go up in trees anymore and they got too tall anyway.

Asked he-who-is-14 if he wanted to go to a movie with me this afternoon and huge surprise he said OK. Went to see 10,000 BC. I thought it was pretty bad - he thought it was OK. My view is do not waste the money unless you have a teenager willing to go somewhere with you for the first time in ages Wink [;)] then its worth every penny.

Daughter has been in between BFs here lately. A guy she liked decided to go back to his old girlfriend. Daughter and this guy were just good friends and did stuff like going to Sonic, etc., but the old GF and my daughter do not get along due to past history. So she is kinda down.

Spent afternoon building frames to support a large tarp to cover the modular layout at the Thomas event since they shut down at 7 pm Sun night and restart next Friday.

One of our members posted some photos of the modular layout setup over on Sunday Photo Fun at that other magazine. Ya gotta scroll waaaay down to see them.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a cloudy 38 degrees. Going up to 49 today, with a chance of rain later.

Today is a relaxing day. After the usual chores, I plan on running trains and watching the Nascar race. Should be a good one. Pretty soon, it will be April. Need some Spring type weather.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

It's raining and 42 degrees in my neck of the sunny south. We need the rain- seems like we alway run a deficit while the rest of the country gets too much- plus it will wash away all that pollen.

The growing season has begun here and will be working from pre-dawn to dark thirty 'til late October/early November. I'm in the landscaping business and even with this economic downturn/recession we have picked up a lot of new accounts, thank the Good Lord. I'll probably pack my trains away today- no sense in letting them gather dust- 'til the off-seaon when our workload lightens.

Ya'll have a good day,

the Babe

Hey Sir James, thanks for the phone call!  Just a lazy day for me today watching movies with the kids I guess.  Just watched Children of Heaven, a dvd I won on ebay for 99 cents.  It's a foreign movie from Iran with subtitles, but I think anyone would like this movie.  The family is poor.  The oldest child, a boy, is sent on errands including having his sister's shoes fixed.  He sets them down (in a bag) and a trashman takes them by accident!  If they tell the Dad, they think he'll have to borrow money to buy new ones, so he and his sister take turns wearing his sneakers.  Boy and girl school is at different times of the day, so they have to run like crazy, trade shoes for slippers, and then run like crazy to get home or to school.  The movie ends with the boy trying to win a new pair of sneakers in a big race.  I won't spoil the ending for anyone, just in case, but I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Roy - cool pics on that Sunday thread, I think that Thomas Mt. Rushmore detail is VERY cool!  Great job! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Jim SP - those rocks sound cool.  I used to collect fossils when I was a kid, but I guess they got lost along the way somewhere.  Watch out for dinosaur eggs or you might have the problem that Perry has with T-Rex attacking your toy trains!  Wink [;)]
