NS also did quite a bit of advertising, if I remember correctly their emphasis was on cleaner air and less road congestion by reducing the number of long haul trucks.

A little off topic, but do you know if MTH ever released the dual curved turnouts that they were advertising a couple of years ago?  Ex is a 54/72 RH turnout?  I've never seen them in real life, but I have released MTH publications with them listed.

Chief...."ocra."  I found that one in my cookbook.  You're slipping.  Big Smile [:D]

Laz.....hope my advice on fertilizer got to you on time to delay your mowing and buy you some train time.  That stuff, the weed and feed, works really well but is pricey.

Brent....try another shot of starter fertilizer on the newly seeded areas.  The bag tells you how frequently you can reapply.  It isn't that long between applications and is safe for newly seeded/germinating areas.

Rich.....100% humidity is what you experience standing on black asphalt in the broiling sun in the long lines at Disney (personal experience).  We're taking my 4 year old granddaughter there soon, am hoping she will tire more quickly than I.  Then we can retire to the pool at our lodging with a frosty or two.

MikeC.....I got tired of taking cars back after picking them up from the body shop. Banged Head [banghead]  I get so excited the car is fixed I neglect to go over the work with a fine tooth comb.  In one instance the trunk gaps were out of wack, another they got paint on the rubber stripping and didn't take the time to remove it, and another they did a less than stellar job reattaching body side molding.  Made good on all, but it's all in the details.  "Make it look like it never happened, boys."

Fife.....a moment to "discuss things" with son.  That's the part where they repectfully listen to every word that comes out of your mouth with great eye contact and head nodding in agreement.  "Sorry, Dad, it was a dumb move.  I promise I won't do that again."  Then they go out and break the other arm doing something else equally insane, and Child Protective Services puts you on their speed dial.  Banged Head [banghead]

Don.....good news on Chris' recovery. Thumbs Up [tup]  Why don't the doctors do the staple thing now and fix the source of the problem?  Not the same thing, but some years back my nephew's testicles somehow got twisted and the doctors sutured them to the *** to prevent a reoccurence.  Sure makes all the other problems we face seem small by comparison.

SirJames.....isn't it "see the Doctor" time?  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  I was sorry to hear that your wife's coughing has persisted......must be the train ozone or the great smoke your locos produce, but don't tell her.

Roy.....I certainly am glad we didn't do that kind of stuff when we were kids.  Whistling [:-^]  I'd like to tell you it gets easier with time.  Eventually this escapade will seem like a walk in the park.  However, the seriousness of childrens' "problems" grows with age, that's a scientific fact substantiated by seat of the pants research.  Solution: you can join me in Antarctica where we can hide for about 10 years, leaving no forwarding address or phone number.

Lee.....prayers for you on your job hunt.  Hang in there and good things will happen.

Jack

Hey, What'd I miss?  Something to do about a deleted post/thread, but I never saw it.  Oh well.  It is a crazy day and I am on call.  Came in today to find that a 4" pipe two floors up from here had burst.  Under pressure, this ran for over an hour before the folks in Plant Ops were able to shut it down.  In the end, a good portion of the hospital was flooded.  They were telling stories of how it was raining in the halls.  Needless to say, we had cancelled the first cases, but did one late case as they fixed things quickly and we are back and running.

Had a "Daddy Moment" today.  I had purchased some equipment for the media department of our church.  When I was dropping it off in the production room, I noticed that the kids were on camera as they were practicing the K5 (5year old kindergarten) graduation (they go to 1st grade from here).  Anyway, I see my son on the TV.  I finished with what I had to do and I went to the balcony to watch the practice.  When he left the stage and sat down, for some reason, he just looked over his shoulder, right up at me...and just smiled.  Made my day.

Don, make sure Chris doesn't smoke.  That is a sure way to cause reoccurance.  They quote you good numbers...about 30% risk that it will happen again.  Know the signs and get him back to the hospital should he have any more problems.  It is not entirely understood as to why this happens.  Some thought is to a collagen deficiency, but they are not sure.

Well, I have a bit of actual work to do, so I will check in with everyone later.

God Bless,

dennis

RI52-I'm watching closely, if it appears to turn to an infection, you know ears, that sort of thing I will go to the Doctor. An old saying If you take medicine for a cold it will go away in two weeks,if you do nothing it will take 14 days. At least I don't have to worry about going to work sick anymore. I am taking Motrin for my achy joints though.one or two a day max. thanks for your concern.   S.J.

"More and more, the nation is becoming aware of the tremendous safety, economic and environmental benefits that railroads create. Our trains can move a ton of freight 423 miles on a single gallon of fuel, and one train can carry the load of more than 280 trucks," Ward said.

So does anyone know if this is true? Do RR Engines REALLY get 423 miles to the gallon? If so then we need to hire GE to design automobile engines!

The engines in a locomotive do not directly drive the wheels, but instead turn a genarator that powers electric motors in the trucks, so railroads were first at flex fuel and hybird transportationLaugh [(-D]

speaking of CSX yesterday I seen a string of bulkhead flats with logs passing through the yard also saw a wissconsin central covered gondola sitting in a M.O.W  area.

Got back from the bone specialist a little while ago, and the boy wound up with a short cast (which was the less of 3 options).  He did snap that bugger all the way, with a 15% deviation.  He's now proudly donning his glow-in-the-dark arm gear.

Jack - I have a very good idea of the proper response to these shenanigans!  I should get a broom and sweep some riffraff out of the scouts.  But, my wife feels that this would be a little overkill and may actually result in lawsuits?  Maybe a bat instead?

Scratch, thanks for keeping us up to date Thumbs Up [tup]  Some things take priority even over toy trains.

Laz, ditto - I have ordered a couple pieces/parts from Lionel in the past and they have always come within a week.  Good service!

88 - good article, although it doesn't make me feel better about the price a the pump....  I heard that CSX ad on the radio as well - Wow!  What we need is dynamic breaking on the cars and store that energy in flywheels etc.  Plus, fuel cells!

Doug M - good for the fish, but I'm growing gills!

Roy - could be worse.  I stained my deck 2 years ago.  About a week after I got done, the so and so who then lived next door decided to strip the old stain off his fence.  You guessed it, his cleaner somehow got sprayed all over my deck and took off all that stain I had applied!  What a mess!

Lee - Good luck!  Keeping that prayer wheel spinning!

Chief - where in MO is your garden?  Maybe I can sneak over there and get some that great produce?!

Don - tube sounds painful, hope things heal up fast and no recurrence!

Wes - yeah, I heard about that deal, what a mess.  No accidents to report here, sir!  [L]

Dennis - that's a proud moment!  Good job, Daddy!

Sir James 1 - Just don't cough on the banilla, okay?  Hope you and Mrs. SJ1 are all well soon.  Wife had some crud that hung on for like 2 months.

CSX - hey, diesel electric - what we obviously need is diesel electric cars!  Oh, wait - diesel is more expensive!

Fife - good news on the boy-o, hope he heals up fast.  Kids do, though.  As for the daughter, I think that is hilarious!

My daughter had to write a Haiku for school.  I suggested she redo her homework after I found her entry:

I will make haikus

But not if it is school work

Then it is boring!

Wes

Two years ago, I worked on the NS Heartland Project.  Everyone, including the NS management were speculating at the time that CSX would be required to do something to be competitive with NS.  CSX leases the north part of the Columbus Buckeye Intermodel Yard from the NS railroad.  It is too small for CSX to be competitive and train orders are controlled by NS.  We first started to hear that CSX would enlarge the Parson Yards in Columbus for intermodel. http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2006/06/05/story3.html?hbx=e_sw CSX and the City had to do some type of land swap.

Then the big announcement hit the papers: http://www.logisticsmgmt.com/article/CA6560099.html  and http://www.csx.com/?fuseaction=media.news_detail&i=49644

Ohio, and Columbus in particular is becoming a freight logistics hub.  The tracks are real shinny entering and existing the Capital City.  We are going to see a real increase in freight traffic in the next ten years in Ohio.

Now if we could have high speed rail from Cincinnati to Columbus to Cleveland.

Town Board is over.  Passed the budget in one reading.  Now to relax.  Got meeting at 4 tomorrow in Raleigh.  Maybe I can get some things done and run trains.  BTW: big storms rolled through around 4:30.  As usual the good Lord watched over Roseyville.  Got heavy downpour and a little hail [tiny and quit as soon as it started].  Frankie in the Southern part got 15 minutes of continous hail.  Said you could rake it up as it was piled on his driveway.  Did not damage his partol car and not too big.  Some photos sent to TV stations showed golfball size and larger.

Jack, sending you an email through the system.

Fixed our new LG front load washer.  The door was just a little loose and rattled during spin cycle.  Although it was still under warranty, I couldn't get anyone to come fix it.  I got the repair company right off of LG's site, but when asked, they say that they don't fix LG...weird.  3 hours later, it's fixed.  Spent most of the time getting the spring clamp back on.  Lighting and tools make all of the difference.  Once I got both, it went right on.  Night fellas...

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool and cloudy 45 degrees. It was clear and sunny an hour ago. Going up to 60 today, with a slight chance of rain. Getting tired of rain. We need a lot of sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I will drive into Cambridge to do the weekly shopping. Gas is on it's way up again. Was $3.89 here yesterday. It will be over 4 dollars a gallon before the day is over. Looks like summer driving will be very limited.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Morning all.  Slept a little late.  Speaking of "Honey Do", wife had those over the picture bar lights over some pictures in the living room over big and tall entertainment center.  Well, when we went to new HD big TV, we gave entertainment center [one of those big heavy wooden things] to Town Manager.  Moved new TV to other end of the room.  This left pictures handing high on the walls and these cords for lights hanging down.  To take the light down, had to pull anchors out of walls [PLASTER].  Now got big holes as plaster chipped out with the anchors.  Job today is fill, sand and repaint walls. Dead [xx(]

Got big regional transportation meeting later this afternoon at RBC Center in Raleigh. Sigh [sigh]  Lets find some trains time today.  Later

GOOD MORNING ALL

Whens the global warming getting here, it was 45 again this morning. our average temp. is 73 and we are just barely getting 65. Yesterday looked and felt like October. Well I slept better last nite found some Nyquil caps. and took one of them maybe it helped me breath. We have and old but still good RCA XL100 that my wife watches when we don't want the same tv program, and thats most of the time. Anyway I use a vcr as a cable tuner and now that decided it doesn't want to work anymore. Fine except I don't think I can find a new vcr  without a dvd in it. Brutus told me he bought one about a year ago so i'll look around. Y'all have a great day,,,,S.J.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s today.  Soccer practice tonight!  It has been over a week and my toes have been tingling, wanting to get some touches in.  Picked up the car yesterday.  They did a good job.  Is it perfect...no.  Is it servicable for a 17 year old vehicle....yes!  Lucas is real happy to have it back.  His math score could be better, but the bottom line is that he only needs a 40 on the final to pass the course.  I mowed the yard last night and then did a light work out at the YMCA (long story on that topic).  I did some eBaying and some Second Life.  Probably stayed up too late, but doing ok today.

I see where the Super Bowl is coming to Indiana in 2012, which is the same season as a possible NFL strike.  It would be our luck to be the host city the year it was canceled, but hopefully it will be ok.  It does not really matter as long as we have the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" .  70,000 at a football game is nothing to 250,000 at 16th and Georgetown.  Now if we were having a World Cup match....now you've got my attention :-)

I had a little variety on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  I hope everybody has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all. Cold but sunny again. I took a risk to leave the coat at home but froze. Oh well, all the more coffee from the pot to warm me up. Going to the symphony - just a block away - tonight with the bride. I will be the one in the back row without a tie.  Speaking of ties, I think of Buckeye - and his interesting Ohio NS/CSX post - CN is just getting blasted here on their proposed "J" acquistition by all the rich suburbs that don't want them to run more trains on that loop. CN has big plans for that line. My UP commuter line crosses the J and is often held for their more-frequently and longer trains. Speaking of my commute, we went into emergency from 65 mph today - I heard the brakes go off and then we shuddered to a long, long stop. Took a while to recharge I guess to get going again. Engineer said he just missed someone forcing a crossing in front of him. Sheesh - what's their rush on the way to work...

Good luck, Lee - praying for your interview and all who are ailing - Chris, Sir James, fife jr...

Warm up the Tardis, Brutus, and let's all go run Sir James' trains to work in that lubricant.

Good morning,

Thanks for all the support about getting a job. Going in at 1pm today, toll collector job.

Been setting some records for high temps lately down here in south Florida, 97 yesterday, today 96? This is pre-summer high temps, should be late June before this hot.

Not too much going on except that I have been making room under my layout so I can do some more wiring in the next month or so. Also trying to find out about the Lake Worth FL train show in August, want to sell some stuff there if I can.

Waiting on check from ebay safe seller store, sold heavy duty power amp for stereo(500 watts output, band equipment).

Town Board is over.  Passed the budget in one reading.

I wouldn't think it should take too long to approve the electric bill for the blinking light at the intersection in the middle of town.

Another sunny day here and temps more moderate at 92.

Lookin forward to the long weekend ahead - I need it....
